The four stars is for the burger. We call in for a few when in town visiting my Mom. The Food Basket has been around forever. I'd say their offerings are somewhat average for a meat and three type restaurant. The veggies being a bit uninspired, but a decently cooked/palatable country-style meat offering. Service is casual and congenial, but not always as warm as one might expect in the Deep South. Atmosphere is not a strong point. Order for pick up! Quick and easy. read more

We came here for breakfast and it was really good. The ambience had a homey cozy vibe to it. The service was really good, people kept checking in on us. The biscuit I had was really good. The chocolate chip pancake I had was pretty tasty. The bacon was ok, it was a little burnt and crunchy. I like the hashbrowns but the texture was a little weird. Tucked away back from highway 431, very difficult to get a parking spot when it's busy. Why does it get busy, I don't know what the drawing card is here. Ordered the Reuben sandwich. It wasn't that impressive to be honest, the sandwich was made with small slices of a regular loaf of bread, the portion size was similar to that of a grilled cheese sandwich from home. I didn't get fries as with Reuben's in the past from other places I've been to were usually pretty filling, so I wasn't expecting a mini sandwich. Tried the kids chicken tenders, they were very basic no frills. Got to see the pork chops, they had a lot of fat on them so I wasn't impressed by the sight of them either. Come on Albertville you guys can do better!!! The ambiance was like that of a 70's restaurant. Still looking for that wow moment or hidden gem in Albertville ans still haven't found it. When someone says southern hospitality. This is the place. Everyone was friendly and service was great. We drove 45 minutes to try this quaint little gem and will definitely be returning to try other breakfast items and lunch. Every single person that works here is so nice. This place! Kinda hidden from main traffic flow. But, The Food Basket doesn't have to be out in plain sight. Our experience today shows why their restaurant draws people to them! The warm welcome we received as we entered the door was like coming home. The Hostess and even patrons made us feel like neighbors. Spacious seating. Very clean restrooms! We never came close to running low on our drinks. Breakfast with pancakes, corned beef hash, eggs, bacon. Generous portions and that bacon! Thick and full of flavor! Prices were very reasonable. The food and ambiance was very relaxing. The service was very helpful in deciding on what to eat and was friendly.

We came in during their final hour of the day, and they were out of biscuits and grits. No problem adding veggies to my "Porky Pig" omelet. I ended up with a side of peppered gravy, and now I feel like the last one to know that gravy on an omelet is amazing. I'm stuffed even though I couldn't clean my plate. My brunch date isn't really an omelet guy, but he got the Irish omelet (corned beef hash). It was good, but he probably would have been happier with two eggs over medium instead of the omelet. I was impressed whether he loved it or not, and I'll look for an excuse to bring the rest of the family back sometime soon. Very friendly service and a quaint atmosphere! read more

5 stars for breakfast. The food was on point. We both had the piggy omelet with hashbrowns. It was perfectly cooked with lots of large chunks of country ham, chunks really great sausage and I do have to say a little less bacon and cheese than my wife. But it's ok that she ended up with what may have been the slightly better omelet, mine was still awesome. Our server was really great and attentive. The resturant could use some updates like new carpet and flooring. We knew right off that we had chosen the right place when we walked in and right there at the first table was a group of elder statesman saving the world. We were led to the back dining room was a table of Albertsville finest officers getting there morning fuel to finish a long shift. And yet another table of less senior statesman who was conquering the roads with stories of their hot rod past and current projects take would soon be leaving their mark on the local roads. This hand full of folks dont just show up at any random resturants, the are regulars at the places with the best food. And our assumptions were proven correct when the food came. read more

The gal at the front talked a good game while I was waiting on my food. Dried beans cooked in the crock pot over night, bacon grease in the green beans, everything seasoned to perfection, fried chicken done the old fashioned way, she had my mouth watering telling me how they did things. Then, I got back to the store and opened the takeout boxes and started to eat. The chicken livers were good. The mashed potatoes were instant, no seasoning, with instant gravy. The pintos were Luck's, not dried not cooked all night in a crock pot, Luck's, straight out of the can, with nothing added. The whole potatoes, were right out of the can, with a little parsley thrown on top, no seasoning, no butter, no salt, wretched. The pot roast was horrible. The meat was boil in bag, or canned, the potatoes were cooked less than 15 minutes, they were still raw and hard, you could barely break them in half with your fingers. The corn bread muffins were as dry as a granddaddy's scalp, no flavor, butter didn't even help. I give up. If I am going to get some real southern cooking in this state it's coming out of my own pots and my own stove. What a shame. Congratulations on being there for 50 plus years, guys. Apparently y'all know what the folks around here like. I don't share their desires. read more

Modifying my previous review due to changes here. We have officially stopped going here. After our last few trips here and waiting 45 minutes to an hour for our food and seeing people that arrived there after us getting their food before us, we asked what was going on. It seems that you can call you order in over the phone and they will have your food ready when you get there - so you can dine in. So, you have to sit there and wait until all of that other food is cooked before you can get yours. For people that aren't even there yet! Unless this place changes this policy, we will never be back. read more
