I was craving for blueberry ricotta pancakes so me and my friend came to check this place out this morning. For a Saturday, it was not crowded and no crazy lines outside the door. Parking was easy at the lot by the strip mall beside it. The decor inside was cute and the hostess was nice. We ordered the Spaniard breakfast sandwich and my pancake craving. The sandwich was just ok, you couldn't really make out the chorizo in there and the egg seemed overcooked. The blueberry ricotta pancakes, the main reason for this excursion, was awful. It was tough, hard to cut into, almost like it was old and just reheated. I'm not sure if there was ricotta in the batter and the ricotta sauce on top was bland and not creamy at all. I poured some of the syrup that was in the table all over the pancakes so I could eat it and even the syrup was bland, watery and almost had no sweetness to it. Food is good but service is atrocious. I like this place and will still come here even after this afternoon visit. About 12:45pm. I walked in. Smiled and waved at the server sitting at the bar. Busy with her phone, she lifted her face, looked at me, and went back to her phone. Completely ignored my greeting as if I was not even there. The cook looked at me blindly and said nothing. Maybe they didn't hear me so I said hello out loud, a couple of time more. Nothing! A second server comes out of the back carrying a bucket of something. She approached and looked at me and said "She's on a break"--with already an attitude. No hello nor welcome. No greeting nor welcome but she served up a whole platter of attitude. She took a menu, walked past by me, rolled her eyes and led me to a table. I said "I'm good" and walked out. Wouldn't be nice to acknowledge your customer when they walk through your door--even if you are on break? Will it hurt you so much if you just acknowledge someone who said hello to you?! Came here for Sunday brunch. There was no wait for a group of two. We were seated quickly. The service continued to be good throughout the meal. There wasn't any waiting around for ordering, drink refills or to ask for the check. The place is small and cozy. Like walking into someone's home. Nothing fancy. Came here a while ago with my sister & my boyfriend. I honestly wanted to love this place but didn't. They said the orange juice is "fresh" wasn't fresh it was mintue maid juice. It's disgusting, disrespectful and insulting to give a customer this treatment after he/she paid full price. I thought it was an isolated incident but it kept happening over and over the next few weeks ( I went there twice a week) I know they know how to cook it cause I"ve been going there for years ordering the same thing cooked by the same chef/owner? So why do this? I give them more than good tips. The San Fernando valley has several small cozy breakfast/brunch places that have a limited menu but are worth the visit. Main Kitchen Cafe, in Granada Hills, is one of these places that fits the bill in this category. The restaurant is located on Chatsworth Street and has cafe style tables with umbrellas outside the restaurant. Inside, the seating is limited, but attainable, and the service is superb. Food arrives promptly and the servers are friendly. I have always been an Eggs Benedict addict, so it was not surprising that I ordered the Blackstone Benedict. It comes on a brioche bread (bun type), with crumbled bacon bits and chopped warm tomato, and of course, Hollandaise sauce. For sides, I had the fried potatoes. the brioche bread instead of a muffin is a good change. The poached eggs were perfect. However, the overall dish lacked flavor and tasted bland. That includes the potatoes. Bacon and tomato, in my opinion came in the wrong form and therefore, denied the presentation of texture. Whole tomatoes fresh or grilled, with bacon strips is the way to go. Often, simple is better. And this benedict needs a third ingredient that must be green, say spinach, asparagus, etc. This will also give added taste and needed overall color to the dish. And the potatoes need to be modified to have, say rosemary, thyme or some other herb to enhance flavor. Please do not take these constructive comments the wrong way. $60+ for breakfast for two? Hmm. I'm kind of done with this restaurant . I have been to this location multiple times for both breakfast and lunch. It is generally OK most of the time. Lunch burgers have been very good when I have had them. However, breakfast has been disappointing lately. I ordered the signature breakfast, as did my companion. Each of us had different items on our plate, but I can say with relative confidence that neither one of us were entirely satisfied. We both asked for the eggs over medium and got them over easy. You might not think this is a big deal, but when you do over easy, it's quite often possible for the interior to still be overly runny. The yolk isn't the problem, it's the egg white. Runny egg whites underneath a quickly set exterior can be kind of gross. The pancakes were rubbery, the potatoes were dry. The single slice of sourdough toast was really hard, the bacon was chewy, and the grits didn't have as much flavor as they have had in the past, as well as being served cold in their little cup. Now the cold is what really stood out. This is an indication that the food had been setting out for a while. I don't know what's going on and it wasn't necessarily the case this time, but the last time we went there for lunch, a lot of attention was being paid to to-go orders to the detriment of in-house diners. read more

I appreciate the fact that they have veggie sausage/plant based options. The pancakes were small but absolutely amazing. It was my first time trying Main Kitchen Cafe. It's a small little hidden cafe in Granada Hills. The ambiance was farmhouse style with different movie posters and other random decor. I went with the speciality breakfast because I wanted something basic and really liked that you can order a side of mini pancakes instead of getting bread. The service was friendly, attentive, and positive. Overall, I gave 3 stars, I was not impressed with the food, service, or ambiance, pretty standard breakfast and experience. This is prototype of what's wrong with these kitsch breakfast and lunch spots. They over promise and under deliver. The menu seems like it's going to rock with churro French toast and chorizo breakfast sandwiches. But all you get is mediocre bland food that is so expensive for what you get you'd think you were at a fine dining establishment. This place is under norms as far as food taste goes. The chorizo sandwich I had was about as appetizing as microwave breakfast sandwich. They charge $7 for a side of bad toast with no butter or jam. The service is also average to disappointing. No silver wear at table had to ask for it. Forgot our cinnamon roll (which looked and tasted like it was out of a microwave.) finally brought it over and said they wouldn't charge us for it but did lol. The server was nice though. It feels like an abandoned warehouse in this place. The ambiance if you want to call it that is reminiscent of a storage shed. The only decent thing I put in my mouth were the home fries. The bill was $140 for all this for three adults and two children. With no alcohol!? We didn't even really order that much. But when the lemonade is $7 the side of bread (2 slices) is $7 it starts to add up. $20 dollars for the chorizo bf sandwich is criminal. McDonald's bf sandwich for $6 bucks blows it out of the water. Avoid if you want good food. The only reason I'm not giving this place one star is because our server was nice and I can see room for improvement. But most likely we'll not be coming back. read more

My go-to is the Hemingway benedict. Service is causal, but wait-staff is friendly and attentive. The inside of the restaurant has motivational quotes posted all throughout the wall, with relaxing music being played, and clean eating spaces. It is a bit small, but there is outside seating. I asked the server. Was that the owner referring to the omelette I ordered? She said yeah. An omelette comes with three toppings and each additional topping is extra. Not something I put much thought into nor was I too concerned about this. But once he chose to be a smart a** and bellow that. It caused me to sit there while eating and think solely on the amount I was spending on that tiny omelette instead of actually enjoying it. My meal was meant to be peaceful and pleasant.
