We had been hesitant to come give this place a try for years because of the bad reviews. We have been pleasantly surprised to find that we received outstanding, friendly service, and we did not experience any games that were not working. Not only was everything in working order, but we were shocked to find several very rare games here! For example Jumping Jackpot, Chameleon Paradise, the Flintstone's coin push machine, a sit down version of Pirate's Hook. Icee's were good as was the soda. Didn't have actual food, but since the service was slightly slow, the lady gave us all these drinks for free which was super generous and fantastic! In the arcade there are multiple tables WITH CHAIRS where parents can actually sit down whilst their children play their hearts out. I have never seen actual chairs available throughout an arcade before, and we got to them all. Very refreshing! Now I know next time we can bring the grandparents. Ropes course looks super fun and is up above the arcade. If you want to bowl, they have about 20 lanes available. Prize selection is high quality and diverse. Far superior to Fat Cat's, Peter Piper, Chuck E. Cheese, etc. Again, if you have been avoiding this place due to the bad reviews, we encourage you to give it a chance. We loved it, and we had an awesome time. Will definitely be back. I only wish they would offer some kind of summer pass like Dave and Buster's. That would make it even better. I am not a picky eater nor is my husband. However the food at main event was practically inedible. First we ordered a strawberry milkshake that was over $10. I assumed it would be delicious. And that was quite an assumption. It was not thick, milky, and flavorless. Now usually add these places the food isn't the best so I wasn't looking for a five star pallet. We played it safe and got starters some wings and the burger, Philly steak and wing trio. Everything was cold over salted and mushy. It was terrible. Even my children couldn't eat it . And not only is it terrible it's not cheap. So crappy food crappy prices and mediocre service. I left their feeling ashamed and dirty. Plus their hand soap is about 3 feet up on the mirrors. Pros: The bowling is a lot of fun. I recommend buying the unlimited package. I also recommend the laser tag if you plan to be here a while. The place is clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. Cons: Wasn't a fan of their fun cards which are reloadable however, bit of a rip off. It charges $15 just to activate them and many of their games didn't function correctly. I've been to other main event locations for different occasions and there is room for improvement at this particular establishment. Mainly almost half of the arcade games were either out of order, not powered on, or did not accept the prepaid cards. Food and drink wise it was not gourmet by any means but you should not expect that going into a place like this. One positive thing I will say about this place is that the staff was very attentive and provided us with our food and drinks in a timely manner. If the games actually worked most of the time I'd probably bump to 4 stars, but many of the arcade games were broken or didn't actually give the tickets/points shown on the screens. Food is what you'd expect for a place like this - not bad but definitely wouldn't come here looking for an amazing meal. Service at the bar was quick and friendly and the beer was cold which is a bonus while playing games! Draft beers are definitely pricier than other bars in the area though. Overall I'd say it's an expensive place to spend a day, and I doubt we'll be back, but if you've got a kids party or celebration this isn't a bad place to check out. read more

I was visiting from out of state and brought my nieces (ages 4 and 8) for a fun bowling outing. The lady at the front counter was very nice and welcoming, which started the visit off on a good note. However, when I asked one of the staff members for a ball roller to help the kids, she was extremely rude and snippy. Rather than let it ruin the mood, I chose to walk away and get it myself. Thankfully, another staff member noticed and came over to help. I told her what happened, and she apologized, which I appreciated. Throughout the two games we played (about an hour and a half), no one came by to take any food or drink orders, which was disappointing. Fun, fun, & more fun! What a great indoor place to have fun, eat pizza, and drink (if you wanted to lol). It's great for all ages and families. We came with another couple and their 5yr old. And we bowled for a while and drank while bowling. The kids got hungry so we got a large cheese pizza. They wanted to play some video games so we did that for a while. They weren't old enough for the gravity ropes or laser tag but that would be another adventure in itself. Also lots of tv screens everywhere so you can enjoy sports during their respective seasons. It was 120 degrees outside and it was a perfectly cool low 70's inside the whole time. You can spend the whole day here with their great prices! The staff were all cool, the restrooms are clean and lots of stalls, and there's a huge free parking right outside. I definitely recommend this place! read more

We visited Arizona for a baseball tournament and found fun things to do in the interim. We found the main event and it was amazing. Such a fun place for kids and even adults. They had bowling, laser tag, a hanging obstacle, games, pool tables and a bar. We went on a Saturday so it was very busy and had to wait for most of the attractions. Laser tag was fun, and the kids enjoyed the hanging obstacle course. We went bowling and enjoyed food while we bowled. We had pizza, wings, drinks and nachos. The food was good except for the nachos; waaaay too spicy. It was such a fun vibe. The music, games and quality time in the air conditioned building was a plus. My recommendation: we need this in Los Angeles! We will come back the next time we are in Arizona. 9/10 for the food 10/10 for this place read more

My grandson and I had a date and he picked Main Event for his 1 on 1 time. It's a bit pricey but Grandma (me) is getting older so it's important to me to spend time with them (I have 5 grands and 1 great-grand) doing the things they like to do. We raced motocycles and played air hockey and bowled a game. I wanted him to have fun and he did. We even bowled a game. Making memories is important at my age. It's a nice arcade with lots to do. I got him a 50.00 card and me a 20.00. I lost my card shortly after we got there (we found it) and my little guy looked at me solemnly and said, " Grandma... maybe you had better let me hang on to it." 8-D And he did. At least we left with two cards ;) I will put mine in my scrapbook with our pictures to remind me of our adventures when I go home. read more

This was such a fun stop for our family. I'm glad we decided to spend our family day here. I can't believe we'd never been before considering we're always looking for fun ways to interact with our teenagers. The place is huge and set up so well. I loved that everything wasn't all bunched in your face right at the entry door and you could actually walk in without being slammed with people and all that chaos. The location was clean and well thought out I thought. We saw they offered a great special on Sunday with the All Day pass for under $23 a person. This included bowling, laser tag, billiards and their rope activity (up/bove) I can't remember what it was called sorry...if you'd like to also play the arcade games that is extra to purchase the card/tokens. We decided to make an afternoon of it so we ordered both the passes for us all and tokens. You schedule your activities and they let you know when it's your turn. Bowling was so fun and yes shoes are included in the price. My kids got a kick out of billiards and even more enjoyment kicking our butts in the two story laser tag room. We played a good amount of arcade games as well then took a break to get some drinks and share some hot wings and fries. I like that they have servers who come to you in the bowling area as well as the bar/food area. We've been to all the places nearby and this one seemed to not only be the best bang for your buck, but food was good and we literally spent five hours plus inside. That says a lot because teenagers are hard to keep attentive at times. Me and a group of friends went to go bowling. After a while of having fun, an older man and his friend played in the lane next to us. I saw him at the bar earlier so I assumed he had been drinking there. He was trying to interact with us but we nicely declined. A while later, he called out on us saying to one of us girl, to pop out a t*tty, and she's a minor. We let two employees know about what happened at kick him out. We come to find out when a concerned relative was told, they called the building and the manager blamed us. Stating that we were bullying the older man. I think making sure that the staff are very attentive and cleaning as well as ensuring that all the machines are working would make this place we go to destination in the side of the valley. I wanted to be able to give Main Event Avondale a better review, but it seems that it truly met all expectations from prior reviews. Staff was definitely lacking in attentiveness to customers. Though it may not have completely been their fault. Management did a poor job allocating people to the right areas. There were 2 servers for the entire bowling area which made it difficult to get service let along get anything brought to you within the hour you had at the lane (if you did the unlimited activity pass). The bowling area is super crowded with unnecessary tables and most were wobbly so you had to be careful with where you placed your drinks. We also tried laser tag, but at least one of our guns were broken each game we played which was annoying and disappointing for my kids. The arcade games were not without issue either. I'd say at least 30% of the games were broken. We had multiple games take credits without being able to play. It wouldn't show an error until after you swiped your card or the game just wouldn't start. A few games were completed closed down, and some 2 player games had only one working controller. This made it quite hard for a family of 4 to make the most of a few hours but we did our best. I'm not even sure how many tickets we earned as we weren't sure if tickets were accurate or given with the games we did play. Lastly, we ended up eating at the restaurant area as we had unused gift cards and my kids really wanted the specialty Shirley temple drinks we saw advertised throughout the building and on the website. Service, yet again, was incredibly slow. We allocated 1.25 hours before a movie reservation to eat and ended up getting our food after 50mins of waiting. This made for a stressful experience especially considering none of the servers checked on the tables and most hung around the kitchen area talking. The food was as good and portions were decent. The "specialty Shirley temples" however....WHAT A JOKE! I've included a picture for reference. They should be ashamed to charge $5 for some flavored ginger ale and a tiny piece of cotton candy. Unfortunately extremely disappointed. $70 for our family to bowl for an hour and nothing went right. Bumpers wouldn't come up for our young bowlers on the 1st lane, got them to move us to another... then the balls wouldn't return. Had to wait for that to be fixed. Then through the whole remainder of our time the balls kept getting stuck to the right of the pins, which was making everything malfunction further. They offered an extra 15 mins, but we were on a time constraint and couldn't bowl longer! Meanwhile, no one came over for us to order food and drinks until we had only 20 mins left! Which didn't even leave enough time for us to be able to order food because there wouldn't be time to eat it when it finally came out. It was only 3pm on a Friday afternoon, there was hardly anyone else there! Which oddly included employees. Nothing offered for compensation beyond the extra 15 mins. Felt like a complete waste of money and we just left with 4 very disappointed and hungry kids and beyond frustrated parents. Clearly we need to stick with fat cats. read more

We had a birthday party here recently. The process for setting up was nice because they assign you a party "planner/host" who is your point of contact. Our planner was Brandon who was so patient and professional. He set up our dining area and had dinner ready for our guests on schedule. Seamless. The food was good too. We had the buffet package. The package was definitely worth it because our guests enjoyed bowling and laser tag and then 3 hours of arcade games! This place is all in one for a fun event night. We went there not knowing they had a special for one price all inclusive. So we went bowling, then said oh, hey all inclusive, can you reimburse bowling and we do that? No.. they don't. Then come to find unlike most one price all inclusive, theirs does not include video games. The employees weren't very kind about it and ultimate we left very disappointed. We did enjoy some bowling, but the lanes were terrible and you couldn't get a ball to spin without a hugely exaggerated attempt. Games are broken or giving incorrect credits, games are short timed there were bottles of hand sanitizer sprinkled through out but NONE found in the gaming area! The food is your basic hamburgers, chicken pieces and fries. Our fries were cold. All these people ordering food and the fries are cold? How Sway? The chicken pieces are the kind you offer toddlers but the burgers were good-sized. There were so many people there wearing hoodies and baggy clothes that I was worried something was going to pop off. It's the middle of August. Why are you wearing hoodies?! Definitely not the place to go anymore even if you want a MEAL! The services from beginning to end were horrible! The waitress wasn't courteous enough at all had an attitude and on top of that when we w acted to order all you see is all the employees in a circle just chit chatting instead of assisting the customers. The food quality changed for the worse the food we had gotten was good it tasted like it was heated up from the next day and we couldn't even have the right to speak up because we never got assisted and asked but just once if we needed something unless we called someone over that just walked by past us. I enjoy this place a lot. So does my family. We've gone a few times and even had my son's birthday party here (all 7 and 8-year-olds). No complaints and everyone went home exhausted but happy at the end of the day. While pricey, the food I've tried (except the hamburgers) has actually been pretty tasty. I don't eat here often, though. So take that with a grain of salt. Maybe I just visited on a good day for them. I usually don't comment about food unless I've tried it a few times for consistency and quality. The customer service is slightly above average on the whole as well. The front desk kids are usually rude and unhelpful. The rest of the staff is really friendly and nice. I die a little inside every time I need to go up to the front desk though, seriously. Okay so our night started with a fight of about 15 people involved. Now this isn't the venues fault but it does set up how our night went. 1/2 (literally) of the machines are broken in some way. 3/5 skiball machines just take your credits and don't let you play. 1/2 of the Guitar hero guitars don't work. 2/4 of the guns on halo game don't work. Need I continue on that? The food was WAY overpriced. We went bowling and got a sliders platter that had 9 sliders, 2 cheesy breadsticks, and a bowl of deep fried pickles. I think there was one more veggie item but I can't remember. $70, you read that right, something that is a sampler platter at Chili's for $35 is 2x that here. Bowling was fun but I had to spend over $100 on 2 lanes for an hour. I also put all of our shoes sizes in online which let me tell you asking my friends their shoe size is awkward, and for it to not transfer over. So I had to ask again at Main Event. Laser tag was honestly the only thing I have no complaints about. Price wasn't horrid and it was genuinely fun, just wish it was more than 15 minutes. When we were all done we wanted to cash in our tickets but almost NOTHING in the gift shop had a price tag on it and when they took our cards they never gave them back with a balance. They just took them. I will say that server was nice and she got us our orders quickly. Overall just go to Dave n Busters or an actual bowling alley.
