Open in 1928... it's rare to see a business last that long these days. Food was delicious and fast. No tipping accepted! Cash only, but there is an ATM there to withdraw cash if needed. Big parking lot next to the building.

Ahhh, Maid Rite. It'd been a minute since my last visit (which, undoubtedly, had been in some Iowa gas station). This, however was the full-blown "Maid Rite experience", in a long+time freestanding restaurant. It was exactly as expected; friendly counter girls, seasoned wait staff and an atmosphere that looked like it had gotten lost in the 60's. In other words, it was wonderful! I had two Maid Rites that were freshly maid, hot, and tasty as hell. Skipped the sides, but I had an ice cold Diet Coke which went down smoothly. I wish I had tried one of the pies, though. They had around 8 types available and they're freshly baked in house (or nearby). Just as I remembered it, it was a delicious lunch! I'm craving another visit but, alas, there are no locations in Florida and Iowa isn't on my radar in the near future. Too bad... I could be a regular!

Some things never change. Every time I visit Quincy I have to get a Maid Rite and I love the crinkle fries!!

Maid Rite is a step back in time. I don't know how to say it any different so let me explain. The menus are on the old push in letter boards, you place your order where it is then written on a brown paper bag with your name, the order is shouted out so the cooks can hear, the total is tallied by hand and a chart is referenced, for tax you pay in cash only and your change is reverse counted back to you, your order is bagged and your name is called out. Once this process is completed you sit and enjoy the exceptionally prepared food. And by all means, try the pie! Maid Rite is truly an experience that just happens to include great food.

Iowa chain with an "old time-y feel", that specializes in ground beef sandwiches. All of the people working there when I went were old women, which added to the "old time-y feel" Sandwiches come in 3 sizes, and with the option to add cheese, pickles, and onion. I got the medium size with all of the toppings and it was delicious but very messy, as most of the meat fell out of the sandwich. Have a basic diner menu with other options as well, including a wide range of sides. I got sides of French fries and cauliflower, and, to my surprise, the cauliflower was fried! This makes me believe that all of the sides are fried, but I could be wrong. Menu is on the wall above the counter where you order. Also have a lot of pie and milkshake options. 8/10

My husband use to eat here years ago, not very good anymore regret going here today, since i have never been here cant say i have anything to compare but i know i will not be going back. For zucchini they give you four little chips and they didn't taste very good, the maid rite sandwich was slider size but for the price you should get at least 2. And just okay my don says mine are better save your time and money.

No Covid precautions

Workers not wearing mask. Very unsafe. Will not be back. What kind of management allows this? Please get your restaurant up to par. This is unacceptable

Maid rite started in IOWA 1926 and continued Newton IA 1927, Marshalltown IA 1928. They have tried it up here in Owatonna MN and failed, they wanted Way to much $$

My favorite meal in the U.S. happened when we were passing through the small city of Quincy. I saw online that this place had a pretty good salad bar, so after watching the sunset by the river, we came over specifically to try it. Service The staff were incredibly nice. Since we were foreigners, it took us a little while to order because we had to use Google Translate. Our server was very patient--she brought us our drinks first and gave us plenty of time to figure things out. She even told us a little joke to make us feel less awkward, although unfortunately I didn't quite catch it. Anyway, once we finally ordered, she told us we could go help ourselves at the salad bar. I asked, "Is it just one trip?" and she said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to count." That was great. Food The salad bar was honestly fantastic. It had one of my favorite things: broccoli, paired with a fairly light ranch dressing. I went through two full plates of it that evening. I honestly felt like I was the only person in the whole restaurant going crazy over the broccoli, because when I first started taking some, that tray looked almost completely untouched. There were plenty of other options too: two kinds of creamy soup, four or five types of bread, all kinds of leafy greens, macaroni, mushrooms, and more. Honestly, as a Chinese guy, I could have eaten very happily--and very well--on the salad bar alone. I ordered the Baked Salmon. Well... it was basically a piece of chilled salmon that had been baked, but the real star was the sweet-and-savory sauce. I couldn't quite figure out what was in it, but overall it was very good. The salmon was cooked just right: the sauce and the surface of the fish had developed a slightly crisp, caramelized crust, without the salmon becoming overcooked. When I make salmon myself, I like to roast it with lots of cherry tomatoes and lemon to cut through the fishiness. Their approach worked well too--the sauce and the browning helped balance out quite a bit of the fishy flavor. My companion ordered a steak and gave me a small piece. It was medium well, and pretty good too. Atmosphere The atmosphere was nice. There were regular dining tables as well as a large U-shaped bar, very much the kind of classic American restaurant I had imagined. There was also a fairly large waiting area just inside the entrance, which made it obvious that this place probably gets very busy during peak hours.

The food was Great, the waitress was a little slow , it was a little loud bit my seat was in the…read moreback so it was great over all. The Salad Bar was wonderful as usual, the Cinnamon Roll was amazing, the Monday night special was "Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Corn " that's what was advertised, well what I got was a surprise but it was good

It has fresh made items from soup to desserts. The bread is the best we've ever had. My husband's hamburger was by far in his top 5. My turkey sandwich was so perfect. We unknowingly arrived 30 minutes before close, but the staff was super nice and welcomed us in with no rush. It was still pretty full inside and made for a nice, chatty place to go with family or friends. The menu definitely had something for everyone- all of the options looked great, so it was really hard to choose what to order! We started with coffee before ordering the garden frittata and the biscuits and gravy. The coffee was actually very good- they had a seasonal hazelnut flavor that I really enjoyed. I was expecting the frittata to be fluffy like a quiche, but it was more like a circular shaped veggie scramble. It was pretty standard, but definitely hit the spot. The sourdough bread served alongside was outstanding, however. It tasted super fresh and very homemade. The biscuits and gravy were very flavorful and not too greasy. Given the portions and quality, the price is very reasonable. Would definitely return and recommend making a visit!

I dropped in on a weekday, late morning, to grab a jolt of caffeine before heading out for a hot, busy afternoon. The co-owners were on site: Margarita was behind the counter and Bill was reading a book to a child nearby. The spacious room was dotted with a few other visitors, including a table of women having a lively conversation. A Sade LP was playing on the hi-fi, and as side two ended it was replaced with a snappy jazz record. The café has many food options; I chose a house-made pastry that was perfectly flaky and well-balanced. My iced latte was just right too. I sat for a bit to review some papers I'd brought, and noticed plenty of seating options. Several tables along a wall had access to outlets, for those who need to plug in devices. Margarita brought my order to me and we talked awhile (it turns out we have mutual friends in Quincy) and she happily shared her experiences of growing her business. She also pointed out the books available to read on-site, as well as the paintings on the wall by local artists. Most are available for sale. Next time in Quincy I'll make time to have lunch at Calftown--I look forward to returning!
