Ahhh, Maid Rite. It'd been a minute since my last visit (which, undoubtedly, had been in some Iowa gas station). This, however was the full-blown "Maid Rite experience", in a long+time freestanding restaurant. It was exactly as expected; friendly counter girls, seasoned wait staff and an atmosphere that looked like it had gotten lost in the 60's. In other words, it was wonderful! I had two Maid Rites that were freshly maid, hot, and tasty as hell. Skipped the sides, but I had an ice cold Diet Coke which went down smoothly. I wish I had tried one of the pies, though. They had around 8 types available and they're freshly baked in house (or nearby). Just as I remembered it, it was a delicious lunch! I'm craving another visit but, alas, there are no locations in Florida and Iowa isn't on my radar in the near future. Too bad... I could be a regular!

Some things never change. Every time I visit Quincy I have to get a Maid Rite and I love the crinkle fries!!

Maid Rite is a step back in time. I don't know how to say it any different so let me explain. The menus are on the old push in letter boards, you place your order where it is then written on a brown paper bag with your name, the order is shouted out so the cooks can hear, the total is tallied by hand and a chart is referenced, for tax you pay in cash only and your change is reverse counted back to you, your order is bagged and your name is called out. Once this process is completed you sit and enjoy the exceptionally prepared food. And by all means, try the pie! Maid Rite is truly an experience that just happens to include great food.

Iowa chain with an "old time-y feel", that specializes in ground beef sandwiches. All of the people working there when I went were old women, which added to the "old time-y feel" Sandwiches come in 3 sizes, and with the option to add cheese, pickles, and onion. I got the medium size with all of the toppings and it was delicious but very messy, as most of the meat fell out of the sandwich. Have a basic diner menu with other options as well, including a wide range of sides. I got sides of French fries and cauliflower, and, to my surprise, the cauliflower was fried! This makes me believe that all of the sides are fried, but I could be wrong. Menu is on the wall above the counter where you order. Also have a lot of pie and milkshake options. 8/10

My husband use to eat here years ago, not very good anymore regret going here today, since i have never been here cant say i have anything to compare but i know i will not be going back. For zucchini they give you four little chips and they didn't taste very good, the maid rite sandwich was slider size but for the price you should get at least 2. And just okay my don says mine are better save your time and money.

    No Covid precautions

Workers not wearing mask. Very unsafe. Will not be back. What kind of management allows this? Please get your restaurant up to par. This is unacceptable

Maid rite started in IOWA 1926 and continued Newton IA 1927, Marshalltown IA 1928. They have tried it up here in Owatonna MN and failed, they wanted Way to much $$

Loose meat on a bun in a classic old time building. Always order extra pickles and go for a shake and fries too

I dropped in on a weekday, late morning, to grab a jolt of caffeine before heading out for a hot, busy afternoon. The co-owners were on site: Margarita was behind the counter and Bill was reading a book to a child nearby. The spacious room was dotted with a few other visitors, including a table of women having a lively conversation. A Sade LP was playing on the hi-fi, and as side two ended it was replaced with a snappy jazz record. The café has many food options; I chose a house-made pastry that was perfectly flaky and well-balanced. My iced latte was just right too. I sat for a bit to review some papers I'd brought, and noticed plenty of seating options. Several tables along a wall had access to outlets, for those who need to plug in devices. Margarita brought my order to me and we talked awhile (it turns out we have mutual friends in Quincy) and she happily shared her experiences of growing her business. She also pointed out the books available to read on-site, as well as the paintings on the wall by local artists. Most are available for sale. Next time in Quincy I'll make time to have lunch at Calftown--I look forward to returning!

I had a basic black coffee that did the trick, and the breakfast sandwich was delicious. It's so nice to see such a wonderful, creative environment flourish in Quincy, particularly at State & 8th.
