Might have been just a bad day for everybody . We waited to be seated finally got seated after she sat a couple that just walked in the door. They got the booth. We got the table with the flies. The same couple we're leaving had eaten got pie paid and we got served cold food about that time. Soooooo we asked for a manager there was not a manager available, so the upset waitress was left to take care of the situation did not handle it well we will not be back. read more

We came in. Not busy. I ordered chicken. Takes a while to make. She brought chicken and said sorry about your appetizer, it will be out (onion rings) Told them to forget it, Thats why it's an appetizer. My order was wrong..she exchanged and fixed it. Won't be going back. We waited for a table, no biggie, then got seated and the waitress took our order and we waited and waited and waited and finally got our food which was cold. We had a salad to begin with and it was fine, but when we said it was cold she said do you want us to re cook it ? It was a tenderloin and egg rolls (no thanks ) I told her we were waiting to speak to a manager and she quipped "I'm probably the manager for today " so we said , we'll pay for the salad and be gone. She said sorry but barely. When she told us the side salad was 5.89 we kind of looked at each other and then she crumpled up the ticket in our face and said "never mind" ! pretty sad for a manager not to be kind to her customers. The place they sat us was by a waitress stand where they put in ticket orders and she kept throwing dishes in the bus bucket and very loudly. We were trying to have a peaceful lunch. Flys in the windows and crap all over the area we had to look at if we would have stayed to eat. Very very disappointed. read more

Very disappointed with the whole catfish which I found out was river caught. My opinion farm raised is 10 times as good. So I couldn't even eat the catfish however, the chocolate pie was very good. read more

Sprouts 11/19/22: Last night 19 of us had dinner at Sprouts Restaurant at about 6:30 PM. The food & service was excellent. It is so unusual these days to go out to eat and get a COMPLETE meal (main course, two sides, rolls, crackers, ....) all included in the cost of the one menu item. Simply put an old time restaurant still offering up excellent service, prices, & food. How refreshing! read more

Sprout's is probably one of my favorite places to grab American home cooking in Quincy. Great salads, burgers, steaks, and speciality dinners. The service is always great and the restaurant is always really clean. They have a bigger menu but not so big to where the service suffers. We ate here after church on a Sunday morning. I'm so glad we made reservations ahead of time! In spite of being so busy they had our meals out in a timely manner! I had biscuits and gravy. Delicious! One of my boys had an omelet. He loves omelets and has had many and thought this one was perfect! My other boy had chocolate chip pancakes. It was beyond awful! My family and I went there for dinner and had to wait And hour Just to order and another 45 minutes just to get our food dont even get me started in the food I got the tenderloin and coleslaw and it was awful The tenderloin had no flavor and I couldn't even eat the coleslaw without coughing because of the overwhelming vinegar flavor. My family also got their food and every single one of them were unimpressed and for the price it was unbelievable. I definitely won't be back! read more

Sprouts used to have the best fried chicken in the city. Friday night was the worst. So over cooked when you took a bite it shattered. Also lattice fries was cold, not cooked, laying in grease. This was terrible. 3 other meals were just ok. Not the Sprouts we are use to. Won't be back.. read more

For me, Sprouts and Quincy are one and the same. Whenever I'm in the city I make sure to drop in and soak up the atmosphere and good, unpretentious food. The often dimly lit dining rooms are invariably filled with a mix of families and seniors, people for whom dinner at Sprouts is like breathing. Though the building has experienced a face-lift in the past years, including the construction of a very nice patio, the comforting sameness of Sprouts has not been materially threatened. A meal at Sprouts is guaranteed to be very NICE. The food, of course, is thoroughly pleasant. Personal favorites include the extremely juicy fried chicken, smothered hamburg steak, and of course the roast beef and turkey and dressing specials. Prime rib, served on Friday and Saturday is also worthwhile. The soups tend to be good, especially the chicken rice. Pies can vary in quality, but the French Silk chocolate pie is always a decadent end to a meal. Steer clear of any entrees that try to be fancy, like the too salty stir fry. Do try the home made onion rings, though. read more

Waited 20 minutes for our table, was seated then waited 15 minutes until our waitress asked for our drink order. It took 55 minutes for our food to arrive at the table. Lattice fries were overcooked and hamburger steak was undercooked, had to send it back and wait another 15 minutes (rest of the table had finished eating). Waitress was pleasant and nice. Nice atmosphere, clean restaurant. There was nothing fresh about the sautés. They looked and tasted like they were previously frozen veggies from a bag with plain salty soy sauce on them. Nothing that looked fresh or sizzling, and the rice was so bland and basic. Everything at this place was super basic, nothing unique. Good side salads, breakfast, catfish, fried chicken and all sorts of goodies. Service is usually good too. Although the new set up is similar to a retirement home, it's clean and updated! I had been told that this place is always good. Well I guess not on Saturday nights. 2 out of our group ordered the prime rib. I don't know how long it took to get from the kitchen to the table but both of ours was cold cold cold. The service was somewhat less than par. First why would you need to ask another server for silverware? We had to ask to get our glasses refilled, and I thought it was customary for the server to come back after you get your food to make sure everything is good. Not. Right now I wish I had of got a gas station sandwich at least I would know what I was in for. read more

Had dinner at Sprout's Inn with my father while out in the Quincy area for a family reunion. The fried mushroom and onion ring appetizers were amazing, as were the perfectly cut and prepared rib-eye steaks. The other reviewers giving this restaurant praise were spot on. A very friendly and efficient staff as well. This really IS a Quincy institution and recognized as such. It's so good, we plan to be back for breakfast tomorrow and maybe even for dinner again! There are so few locally-owned, family restaurants serving traditional American food like this anymore in bigger cities. It is refreshing to come across one like this while traveling! read more

Awful experience. We were here with a larger group, but tables were divided by waitresses so service should have not been as big of a problem as it was! Our servers constantly forgot to bring orders out, not even water was remembered. We only ordered apps bc service was taking too long. The spinach artichoke dip tasted like it was from a can, and the nachos were nothing special. Needless to say when we travel back to Quincy to visit family, we will NOT be visiting Sprouts. read more

Disappointed and shocked! Dined with my daughter and 4 other ladies; my daughter's first plate had a hair in it, and the waitress said she would bring her something else. She was brought the wrong item and we were told they would not take it off the bill! She left hungry and I paid $13.00 for food that wasn't eaten. The manager even questioned the hair we found! I'd only been to the old Sprout's once, and that was years ago. What stood out, in addition to the classic Americana cuisine, was the atmosphere. The new Sprout's has the same great food, but I have to admit, the atmosphere feels like a nursing home cafeteria. Drab neutral colors, sparse walls... I hope, in time, that all changes. Fantastic biscuits and gravy! We weren't sure about visiting this place after reading the reviews. I'm glad we gave it a shot. The main seating area consists of booths and tables, decorated in a green and cream color scheme with dark woods. It's much like any other contemporary cafe you'd visit -- certainly not like a nursing home. I did see a larger banquet room on the left, which had longer tables and banquet chairs -- perhaps that is what an earlier reviewer was complaining about. We had menus and some excellent coffee within minutes of arrival. There's a nice selection of items for breakfast, and some of the specialty omelets sounded delicious. Biscuits and gravy are our weakness, though, so we each ordered that along with bacon, sausage, eggs, and hashbrowns. The scrambled eggs were perfect (not that wet goopy mess you often get in diners), the bacon was crisp, and the hash browns were crispy-golden on the outside and tender on the inside. But the the biscuits and gravy! They were the best we've had in a long time, and the serving of gravy was generous -- not that miserly dollop that often passes for a serving. It's clear the restaurant has many regulars, but their arrival did not herald any decline in the attentiveness of our waitress. If you're considering this restaurant and the other reviews give you pause, I encourage you to give them a shot. We're glad we did. read more

Can be hit and miss with the food, depending on what you order. Fried chicken? Very good, very consistent. Alfredo? Bland. Kinda pricey. Service is usually friendly but often not very on top of things. Prepare to ask for everything you need. The servers always seem to be scurrying. read more
