We were staying overnight in Quincy Illinois and after driving all day along the Great River Rd,we wanted a nice dinner close to our hotel. For some reason the reviews were not great but we decided to give The Abbey a try and we are glad we did! We were seated immediately . We explained to our server Sally they my wife is Gluten free and she was super helpful. They offer a nice menu with a wide variety of food options. We started with their drink specials..a frozen vodka drink and a Redemption bourbon double. Prices were super cheap in our opinion. My wife had the baby back ribs with mixed vegetables and they fell off the bone. Sauce was amazing. I had their Surf and Turf special . Steak was cooked just right and the shrimp stuffed with crab meat were very good. Portions were huge and unfortunately we could not take anything home since we were staying at a hotel. This is a family owned and operated that feels like home. Decor is really cool and definitely a place to stop in whether just for drinks, appetizers,burgers or steaks. read more

Ate here before we left town, they were very busy but we got in a booth quickly! Had their infamous mozzarella sticks recommended by our waiter, nick he was incredible. The Abbey is a staple of Quincy for the locals. Everyone raves and loves it very much. But from an outsider I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else. It is defiantly an old place that locals come to often and love. There is parking and a drive thru. It is very old style inside with wooden tables and the bar. I loved that. We got seated right away and our waitress was very attentive. It wasn't very loud. They played music and lots of people were here for the holidays or for before the storm rolled in. I ordered a mudslide because I really enjoy them and I haven't had one in a long while. It was okay just wasn't what I am use to in a mudslide. I wish the drink menu explained what was in each drink. It didn't really give me an idea of what things were. I had the French onion soup, I was not crazy about it because they put a big piece of bread inside of it. I would have preferred it on the side to dip in there. It wasn't bad just wasn't what I would have liked. Everyone I know raved about the shrimp baskets but it was not the greatest. No flavor really. The fries were okay. My coleslaw was a little too sour too. My boyfriend had gotten a classic burger and he really enjoyed it. It looked really good! Also enjoyed that they had seeds on their buns! We were so excited to try this place as the reviews were glowing, unfortunately that was not our experience. Not at all. My sister ordered the chicken strip basket and I ordered the chicken piccata. The sauce of the chicken piccata had a very pungent smell as it was set on the table. I dipped the tip of my fork in the sauce and tried it. It was not something I could eat. About 20 minutes later, I was able to get the attention of my waitress (Uma) and let her know that the dish just really wasn't for me. I asked if I could change out for the chicken strip basket as the dish was completely undisturbed, except for me tasting the sauce. She became very defensive and said I could order another meal, but that the Chicken Piccata would remain on my bill. I was pretty surprised that I couldn't switch meals out, and declined getting anything else. I was willing to pay the $25 for the ($12)chicken strip basket if they would just switch the food out. Another 15 minutes go by, the waitress brings out a "leftover chicken strip, that she would not charge me for." I wasn't comfortable eating the chicken strip as I wasn't sure what "leftover" meant. As my sister finished up her meal, and we were waiting for the bill (we never received it at the table, we had to go to the bar for the host to track down our waitress for the bill) my sister wrote a note to one of the bussers that had her number on it, this may seem off topic, however this is important information. I spoke with the manager who solidified that they would not be taking the chicken piccata off my bill, fine. I paid the bill and we left. The next day, yesterday evening (04/07/2024), my sister receives a text message from the waitress and the busser of this restaurant cussing her out and being VERY ugly. They were upset that we "did not tip, and that we were being a bunch of babies the whole time we were there" mind you, we were pleasant, and understanding about the unfortunate dish of chicken piccata. We saw our waitress three times in the hour and half we were there. She was very unpleasant during those three interactions with us, and I was unhappy with the food quality. Tipping is optional, and is dependent on a happy customer. In this instance, we did not feel that our experience warranted a tip. To not be happy with the food quality or service is understandable. However, for your staff to reach out in a negative way through text, cussing at your customers, sending pictures, and saying explicit things is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE. We were very excited about this place, however we won't be returning. read more

The Abby is a classic old style throwback dinner club serving up high end cuisine. The decor is warm and inviting with a rich wood interior, central bar and plenty of comfortable seating areas. They have a large menu with some local favorites and plenty of classics. I had the New York strip with herbed butter, added a skewer of grilled shrimp and upgraded to the asparagus with hollandaise sauce. It was fantastic the steak was tender and delicious, and the hollandaise sauce was amazing. The house salad was delicious made with extremely fresh ingredients. Fresh baked bread was delicious as well. The service is outstanding, had at least five people come by and ask if I needed anything or if they could get anything for me. The Abby was a perfect place for my son and I to enjoy a Thursday night dinner in Quincy. A nice respite from a busy day, The Abby welcomed us with a homey, vine-covered old world feel The interior was welcoming, bustling and warm, but we opted to sit outside on the shaded patio. My tenderloin sandwich was as expected (though it would have been nice to have included a side, other than a pickle slice). It was cooked perfectly and a change up from something that's available back home in Florida. My son chose the pork chop dinner. He was wowed by the two 10oz. bone in chops, grilled perfectly, with the accompanying loaded baked potato. He devoured it all and left stuffed! Our server was efficient and friendly. Overall, it was a nice evening of dinner and conversation, I'd return if I found myself visiting Quincy in the future. read more

As many have said The Abbey is a local favorite. I haven't ordered many items off the menu because I always go back to their quesadilla basket (I order it with chicken not beef and just recently asked them to start putting the guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, etc on the side [normally they pile them on top of the basket which I don't like]. All baskets come with fries as well as coleslaw or potato salad which I find a little random and don't order either with the basket. Their homemade ranch is quite good and we sub it on their handmade cheese sticks instead of marinara. Service is normally pretty good. Wait times can vary a lot, it is a popular place and jf you hit at a busy time the wait can be out the door. read more

The indoor space has an old world vibe about it. We were seated promptly and our drink and appetizer orders were taken right away. Our server was friendly. We started out with: - Waters - MaiTai - Ban Bang Shrimp The MaiTai was tall and it was tasty. The Bang Bang Shrimp were okay. Not as good as at The Bonefish, but decent. For mains, we shared: - The Gary Burger - Side of Steakhouse Potato Salad - Chop House Salad The burger was at least a half pound with 2 patties. It was decent. We ate at Gem City Pizzeria & Mexican. The lettuce seemed to be the only thing that did not come out of a can; from the salsa and small pieces of broken chips to the drinks and main entrees. The "spicy beef" is tasteless and other "meats" used taste boiled. My husband and I ordered the Enchilada Combo and the Tamale and Taco Combo. (There is only so much cheese you can put on something to try and make it edible.) There are apparently 4 other restaurants in this local chain, and while currently visiting family, we were encouraged to try 2 others, Kelly's and The Abby, as they are supposed to be local favorites. The Abby offered service from recalcitrant bartenders. The food mirrored that of the pizzeria, tasteless and from a can. No seasoning or flavor to speak of (Nachos). Again with the "spicy beef", no more than sliced boiled roast beef from a bag. It did NOT go well. Buffalo chicken tenders were no more than heated frozen chicken tenders literally swimming in a bottled sauce. The ribeye and boiled bland asparagus were ridiculously overpriced for what was received. The ambiance was noisy, chaotic and uncomfortable as waiting patrons leered at you to finish. Kelly's is an establishment with sticky floors in a dark interior hoping no one sees the dirt. The wait staff did not take the time to refill drinks or check back on the food. We felt we were in a "get in/get out" quick as you can time schedule for the waitress. The rice was overcooked and soggy. The over boiled broccoli was flavorless. The desserts were not fresh. If this is what locals consider to be great restaurant, they need to get out of town more often. read more

However, we only waited a few minutes to have our table cleaned. The service was attentive and quick even though they were slammed. I will give it to this place, the Christmas decorations are super cute and must have taken hours to complete and I was super excited when we walked in because the ambiance is really cool. We were sat kind of in a random corner in the back, which I normally don't mind, but we ended up being kind of forgotten about. We had two waitresses during our visit. They forgot about us for about ten minutes after they gave us our menus. Then after we ordered they forgot about us again (my meal was supposed to have bread as a mini appetizer and we didn't get it until after we got our meals and we asked for it) I would say if you're coming here to get the small plates because they're not overpriced (though they did overcharge us $3 from what the menu said, it was still a good value) like everything else on the menu and you actually get a good amount of food. I will say that not giving fries with a burger is one of the most money grubbing things that restaurants nowadays are starting to do and It always rubs me the wrong way. The food is decent here but not worth the super expensive price if you're not ordering off the small plates menu. The burger my fiancé got was not worth $10 without fries. Honestly if they had charged $12 for the burger and included fries we probably would have been happier. We both ordered Steak. Mine was not Medium Rare, it was solidly Medium. They were just OK steaks. Nothing bad, but nothing outstanding either. Definitely Steak is not their specialty. The service was Ok. But, should not have to ask for a tea refill. We will come back, but not to order a Steak. read more

We were in Quincy for a soccer tournament and decided to give it a try. It's a really cool quaint house turned into a restaurant/bar with a great local atmosphere feel. It was a Friday evening and we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table. We sat at a high top table in the bar and ordered chicken wings, beers, burgers and potatoes. Everything was really good. Only weird thing was the sides were ala carte, but very good. Try the twice baked potato. The place was busy, but the service was great!
