The thing I've always liked about LaMei is that they always have fresh options. For AYCE the portions are pretty good. I wasn't expecting to get as much as I did for an order, so something to think about when placing orders. Sometimes you might get a couple of lonely mushrooms or 3 green leaves for a serving of Bok Choy. That was not the case here. The fish and meats were fresh and if you opt for the VIP option, there are appetizers included to nibble on while you cook your other stuff. You also get some more premium options and the hand pulled noodles had a nice chew to them. The service was good. They were efficient with cleaning plates as we used them and the food came out quickly. The sauce station has all the staples you'd expect to assemble your sauce. The AYCE option makes things a bit more affordable, but even if you don't use it, the fresh food will make it worthwhile.

The service was sweet and attentive throughout the night. I ordered the original makgeolli and it was so good -- lightly sweet, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. My friend asked for a cosmo (even though it's not on the menu), and they still made it for her, which we really appreciated. For food, the mala clams were a standout. The sauce was incredible -- the perfect level of spice with that signature numbing kick. Definitely one of my favorite dishes there. For entrées, I got the chicken stew and my friend ordered the galbi. Both were flavorful and comforting, and they came with so many banchan, which made the whole meal feel abundant and complete. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got.
