I cannot say enough good things about this place! My friends and I had all been to a hot pot restaurant in different states before, and were looking for a similar experience here in PVD. 12 dumplings and hot pot definitely did not disappoint!! Their menu selection is extensive and well priced! They also give rather large portion sizes, and have an " all you can eat" option starting at just $35 per person! They have a variety of options, including those for meat lovers and vegetarians alike! The addition of sesame balls and shrimp dumplings on the side is also a must, as they offer ( as the name says) various selections of delicious dumplings! In regard to the restaurant ambiance and layout, the Hot Pot section is located on the second floor and offers large tables with the heated pad for the hot pot. They also have a large selection of condiments and add-ons to the hot pot on the side of the restaurant. Lastly the servers were very kind and apologetic even after they gave us a non-fully vegetarian broth ( the mushroom name was misleading) and even offered to give us an entirely new pot. On Friday, November 15th, Yan's Cuisine reopened as 12 Dumplings. 12 Dumplings offers fresh handmade dumplings, dim sum, rice dishes, mala stir fry dry pot, and hot pot. On a Friday evening, I went to 12 Dumplings with a group of three. We knew we wanted hot pot so we were instructed to go upstairs. The staff greeted us upstairs and were seated right away. We looked at the different options - AYCE hot pot and hot pot value combo meal. We went with the AYCE hot pot. There are 2 course options - A or B for a 2 hours time limit. Different items are included with each course option. The dipping sauce and fruit bar are included in both course options. The dipping sauce bar had many different options. The fruit bar included oranges and cantaloupe. Also, there was pickled radish and this was a great side. The A COURSE is $35.95/per person. First step is choosing a soup base. We went with half Japanese Style Pork Bone Broth and half Mala Beef Tallow Broth. We ordered all the seafood/ball options - Cuttlefish Ball, Shrimp Ball, Fish Ball, Fish Tofu, and Quail Egg. From the meat options, we ordered Chef Selected Beef, Australian Lamb, and Pork Belly. From the vegetables options, we ordered Napa Cabbage and Baby Bok Choy, From mushroom options, we ordered both the Enoki Mushroom and Black Fungus. From the tofu options, we ordered Fresh Tofu and Fried Tofu. From the noodles options, we ordered Glass Noodle and Ramen. All the items were very fresh and the staff were very attentive. They came by to refill the broth and ask if we wanted to order more. We all had a great time around a giant pot of flavored broth and took turns dipping in raw ingredients at 12 Dumplings. Prices are lower than Lamei and the food is just as delicious. Great selection of hot pot items as well as an extensive dumpling menu. Portions are huge and a great value for the price. We ordered way too much! And even after that our bill was totally reasonable. I would definitely try their hot pot again and would also love to return to try more of their dumplings and other items. read more

Life is short . F....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends Was going to Providence for the weekend and decided to check out this new place the pictures and the menu look very promising. So the location downstairs is for takeout dumplings because the location in the Brown University area. The second floor was for dining in this is where the hot pot and other cooked items are served . When you go upstairs, does the normal bar of different sauces you can make at any traditional hot pot place. Unfortunately, this place is still has its growing pains and service was very slow. So we decided not to do the hot pot because of the time limit. We the crystal shrimp dumplings and Shumai. They were ok my buddy thought they were frozen ones. Tried the soup dumplings. Found it strange they served it on a bed of lettuce.. and the dumplings were all popped no soup. The pork leek celery pan fried dumplings were promising- decent flavor .. but was served like warm.. we tried all 4 traditional rice dishes. I applaud the the efforts and know what they were trying to do.. home-cooked traditional meals. The chicken scallion was decent, but you really need to serve it with the diced scallion and ginger with oil so it has more salt. The tomato and egg was pretty good. These little more seasoning. The curry was decent. That one was probably my favorite because it taste like something. Your mom would make. The beef stew was OK but just a taste just too much salt. I get the concept, but I would wait to visit this place until they get their act together. read more

Conveniently located right off of Hope St. in the midst of Brown's campus, this food is delicious and also competitively priced. You can order by kiosk and pay quickly. I got the 12 pork dumplings hence the name and they came out perfectly and I ate them all. Next time I will try them steamed, along with other items on the menu. They have a full restaurant upstairs complete with bar and hot pot ovens at each table. I'll come again. The ambiance could feel a bit cleaner, trendier, but it doesn't take away from the experience for me too much. Still a win. read more

my favorite hot pot place in all of rhode island, will fight this!!! servers are always so so so so kind. like so hospitable and so informative and attentive. love the renovations. love the new dipping sauce station. hot pot is bang for your buck. broths are delicious, i recommend the mushroom broth and tom yum broth. ate so much rib eye and fish tofu lol. came on a rainy sunday, felt like those coffee shop ambiance youtube videos with the soft music playing, lo-fi, the steam, the quiet, the second floor outlook of the window. just a lovely gem in the middle of brown's campus. plenty of street parking in the evening. read more

I think this is probably the worst restaurant I've ever dined at. When we arrived our waitress informed us that they did not have sufficient clean water glasses for our table of four. They did not provide utensils for the hot pot - no ladles. Next, we had to request bowls. They did not have clean bowls. So we had to wait. We had to request silverware. They did not have clean silverware. No spoons. No cups or glasses for the sake. No wine glasses. I can go on and on. Stay away - this place is awful. The food was at best mediocre. It was dirty. It was cold. It was unpleasant. I think they prey upon the drunk college crowd. If you're wasted and passed out on the bathroom floor it's probably a good time. read more

I would have given this place fives stars yesterday because these are hands down the best dumplings in Providence. They are sooooo good. However, in my order today, they put a chicken dumpling in with the tofu ones and I'm a vegetarian. I hate when places mess that up because it is really gross for those of us that don't eat certain things. I bit into it before I realized. The vegetable dumplings are greeen, but the tofu ones are white, just like the chicken ones. They need a better system because I don't think I can go back now, which is such a shame. Was excited to try this place but SO DISAPPOINTED! Do not have hot pot so no comments on that. But the dumplings were dull and one note and worst of all it was clear they had been fried earlier and reheated. I can beat that with dumplings from my freezer. Sent the popcorn chicken back because it was all breading with minimal chicken. Really too bad. Over server was very nice and sympathetic but we will not be back. read more

3 times now I've returned to give 12 Dumplings a good chance. I want to like them more and do hope to up my rating in the future. Right now I would rate them 3-1/2 stars but there's no little half twinkle so being generous and never wanting to see people fail, I opted for a pushed 4 star. Initially I started with them for Dim Sum, something I've loved for over 40 years (I'll not say how much "Over" that is), but take me for what my background is having lived in Hong Kong for over 20 years and eaten Dim Sum in China, Taiwan, San Fran, NY, Boston and Providence. 12 Dumplings seems frozen. The Har Gow, or crystal shrimp, are ok. The Siu Mai/Shu Mai are not great at all and seem definitely frozen. Their filling should be a blend of ground pork for that luscious juicy texture, some mushrooms, ginger, soy, a bit of sesame oil and cornstarch with ground shrimp. These have a more pureed mix with a rehydrated shrimp on top. The Char Siu Bao are good. But, they're missing the basic Turnip Cake with Hoisin Sauce, Rice Rolls with either Shrimp or Beef and so much more. So, for Dim Sum, yeah they're just okay. I'll still continue to go to King's Garden over on Rolfe Square as I find them the best in the state. For a more authentic experience, I'll take the train up to Boston where the ladies wheel carts by your table and you choose what looks good. You're charged by the plate (color or size or steamer basket). A pot of tea to cut through it all and some Chinese steamed Broccoli and I'm a happy camper. As for 12 Dumplings, I'll keep trying. I did have their Curry Chicken and it was quite lovely, I must admit. I'd like to more of their entrees and the hot pot, but will have to forego the "Chicken Paws". I'm not too fond of eating back scratchers. read more
