I gave the lady who cut my 3 pieces of wood correct measurements. She showed me before she cut them on a measuring tape the measurements, they looked correct. I did not measure the 3 pieces of wood after she cut them, I will always measure wood after it is cut in the store! When I got home to use the wood for a project, all three pieces were cut a relative considerable amount to short. I called to let the store know and the same lady said the saw wasn't always accurate. I don't understand how a manual saw cuts inaccurately at a hardware store. Before she cut them I did explain how they needed to be cut to the exact measurement. If the saw didn't cut accurately this would have been important to know, as I would not have had her cut the pieces of wood. I will not be going back to Magnolia Ace Hardware. read more

I have shopped this store for decades, yet when I attempted to return a defective can of paint I just purchased yesterday, the manager kept on arguing and did not refund my money at this time, citing that the paint needed more cure time after nearly 24 hours. On a typical Monday afternoon, looking for some outdoor Christmas lighting decorations, I went to my local, neighborhood hardware store of over 60 years... I picked up one item of interest, got in line and asked the salesperson on staff if (she) could determine if the item was intended for both indoor, as well as outdoor usage since admittedly I stated that in raising my reading glasses, "I'm slightly impaired" - with that her aggressive, loud response was - "are you drunk?" - Stated not in jest, not jokingly, but accusatory, blatantly rude, inconsiderate, and way out of bounds. My response to (her) was - "I was referring to my vision" as I was clearly implying from the beginning. Then I politely asked for her name. Her response was "Kate" and then in an even ruder and louder tone - "and what is your name?" To which I replied- "Bob." Never did this employee ever consider it appropriate to apologize for her actions and statements, because she wasn't sorry nor concerned about her offensive comments. To my recollections, I've never seen, nor have I ever been helped by this individual before in over 5 decades of my loyal patronage to this establishment. Just my experiences here, and last in ever purchasing anything from Magnolia Ace Hardware and their affiliates. I will be forwarding the same information to their corporate offices within a reasonable amount of time. The irony is, that the item technically wasn't tagged as required by law - of which she, too, wasn't able to identify upon her reading the tags. read more

They say to support your local businesses but this place has never been good to me. Firstly, you walk in and instead of a greeting you get an awkward stare down. It's like the employee is shocked you're walking into their living room until a few seconds goes by and they realize they are in fact at work. It's really frustrating. I had a lot of renovations going on from March 2020 til now and made several trips here out of convenience. Plus one star. They had most items in stock, saving me a trip to other hardware stores. Plus another star. Whenever you need paint, skip this place and either go directly to Sherwin Williams/Benjamin Moore/home depot or lowes. The staffer who helped me earlier this year when I asked them if I could buy some paint said yes and proceeded to play on their phone. Today I tried to make an exchange and when the worker couldn't find it in their computer, I had to keep it and pay for a new item. It literally had their tag on it and being America, we are used to being able to swap out and return especially when it was brand new and could be resold. I was flabbergasted and won't be returning ever again. I know that sounds lame, but honestly it was so lame that she stared at me like I was from outer space with three heads for not having a receipt. read more

I went into the store on Saturday, July 1 to request help/advice on removing caulk from 20 windows. A very tall man took me to the area to show me what was avail. He offered 1 suggestion, could not tell me how much I would need to purchase and advised me to "Just go to the home depot parking lot and hire someone there to do it." He then proceeded to walk away. I then overheard him with another customer telling him he could not help him with his paint albeit another employee had told the customer he could receive help at the front of the store. As a business owner myself, if I had an employee providing that type of customer service, they would soon find themselves out of a job. read more

Very knowledgeable employee helped me and my dad in the plumbing aisle. We brought in the old kitchen faucet with differing hot and cold water attachments. The employee was able to carefully open the package of the faucet I wanted, look at the attachments it had, and then find the appropriate adapter (3/8" to 1/2") for the hot water side. He was very patient and helped talk us through everything. When I got home, I had all the parts I needed and it was an easy install. I needed a battery for my thermometer as my wife was not feeling well. So I went to the local Ace here in Magnolia and was disrespted by a tall hairy man who seemed reluctant to raise enough energy to help me. Finally I blew a gasket and then he agreed to "help" me. He asked me what sized battery it was, and I didn't know and couldn't read the markings on it. He condescended to try to read it with the help of a magnifying glass in one of the aisles. After struggling to read it himself, he gave me the number, but wasn't a bit interested in helping me find it on the rack until I struggled for a while and then he did point it out to me finally. This is not the first time I felt as though I was a burden to them at this store, but it is the first time that it was outright disrespectful. read more

Called at 5:55p just now. I was passing Metropolitan Market heading towards the Magnolia Village. I asked the man who answered the phone if they carried wooden flag poles. He's said they did! I told him I'd see him in 3 minutes. He told me, "Actually, we're already closed." "Seriously?" I replied. "I thought you closed at 6p." "We do." He then told me. "But we've already locked the door & we're getting the last couple customers out now." "Um, really?" I asked after an awkward silence. "Yep!" He replied gleefully. "We'll open again tomorrow at 9AM." 25 years - To whom it should concern. Over 25 years we have spent time and a lot of money in this store. Helped by dozens of your staff, we rarely encountered poor customer services issues. That is until last Saturday, when my wife and I needed to buy paint. Not our first paint purchase. Your uninterested employee reluctantly mixed 2 quarts of paint, it was the wrong color, begrudgingly she mixed 2 more cans; but sadly, she again mixed the wrong color. She seemed super confused that we actually wanted the paint color on the chip we gave her. A little stunned we decided to give her some time to figure out this clearly deeply scientific and obviously exhausting process. We did more shopping and returned 20 minutes later. At the check-out were 4 quarts; 2 with correct color and 2 incorrect. We began to pay for the 2 correct quarts, and then told by a 2nd staff member "we must buy the wrong quarts as well; "since we made the mistake". This was complete fabrication and so untrue. My wife refused to pay for the wrong paint, and was told "well then you can never buy paint from here again". We responded; saying "don't worry- we will never buy anything from this store ever again", and walked out. Keep up the good work. read more

Magnolia Ace Hardware used to be on McGraw, along with the old butcher shop and other places. It's been in its new location for decades now and there are great helpers there. Indeed you can occasionally get someone who has had a bad day but hey ask someone else! Generally they are on target and will have an answer for all sorts of questions, paint to plumbing, electrical to gardening. They rescreen screen doors, fix small items, cut glass, make keys, sharpen garden tools, and have alot of creative ideas for the oddest requests. They have birds in the back and free popcorn every day which is appealing to the little ones. Support your family-owned business and shop here. They are community oriented and have donated to a lot of community projects. In a world that gets most things by mail this is a vital resource we all must fund to keep viable. Many tradespeople have cards down there too and that can be helpful if you need to hire someone to assist. I am so thankful I don't have to leave Magnolia to get a spring or the right obscure light bulb. Just say not to big box stores and shop locally when you have that option. read more

Definitely our home town and in-neighborhood hardware store. Just as you would expect, they've got all the major necessities for a home improvement project or things around the house. It's a rather small store in terms of square footage, but they have lots and lots packed into their space. Because it's an Ace and not a big box hardware store, they don't have a ton of selection with their products and they are quite a bit more expensive than the larger stores. All in all though, when you need something quick this is the place to go in Magnolia. Customer service is top notch though, so that makes the experience better and any associate can help you with what you need or are looking for. One tip, be sure and sign up for the Ace Rewards Card. Bought some high priced Christmas lights because couldn't make it to Fredmeyer. I didn't use all the strands so went to return them today. I was chastised because I should have returned them sooner because other people are looking for Christmas lights. Your chastising a customer because they decided when they don't need them and when they make the decision to return them that's not great customer service. This Ace Hardware customer service is pushing me farther away from going to this Ace hardware. I now only go to this Ace Hardware as a last resort. read more

I am usually not one to publicly complain, but the last two times I have visited this store the staff were rude and unhelpful. Is the store under new management? I have found the staff to be friendly and eager to assist in the past. I generally have no problem paying a bit more in order to support local business, but I do expect to be treated courteously as a customer. Poor/RACIST customer service. Not one store associate asked me if I needed help. When I asked for help, the sales associate told me which isle to go to, leaving me to figure out which screw to pick from the hundreds of option. He, however did ask a white lady if he could help her find anything without her even having to ask. When I went to the sales register, the white lady asked me how much the screws were. She didn't even offer to put them in a bag. After I asked for a bag, she pointed out that they were available in the aisles, and that 'she could give me one from the register'. Wow!! My husband was constructing a garden shed, and needed some screws. I ran down to Magnolia Ace Hardware. I reached for the door and was surprised it was locked, as I could still see shoppers inside. I looked at my watch and it was 5:55. I turned to my mother who'd come with me and said "But it's only 5:55..." I was thrilled when I realized that someone from the other side was unlocking the door to let us in - but then quite irritated when I realized it was an employee, Doug, opening the door to tell me that yes he realized it wasn't yet 6pm, but since the register clocks were set at a different time, they close up early. Apparently he considered letting us in, it was then that he asked if I knew exactly what I needed. I promptly said "2 boxes of screws". He asked if I knew what size and I promptly said "2 and 3" meaning inches. Doug looked at me, rolled his eyes, and scoffed "that's no help." I turned around and left. I will not be returning. Helpful local hardware store. There's a nice mixture of items from fasteners to shovels to Christmas lights to adapters to extension cords. Not the selection of Home Depot, but enough to cover the basics. But a few extra things you should know: they have serve-yourself popcorn from a machine in the back, there are a number of parrots in a cage in the store and they're very dog friendly. I'm a huge fan of Ace Hardware. If you need it they have it. If you don't know what you need they'll help you figure it out. They've helped me on numerous occasions with weird requests to cut specialty glass or saw off screws from doorknobs (I'm an amateur artist). I love that it doesn't take me hours to figure out where something is (big box stores) and has the small town feel - free popcorn!. The prices are competitive and the help outstanding. This is a solid little hardware store. They carry all sorts of randomness- and their prices aren't terribly expensive. What makes this place visiting is the knowledge the employees have on just about anything hardware related. I have been going to the Magnolia Ace Hardware for 25 years. Most local stores like Ernst and Seattle lumber yards have closed, and it is far more convenient than Home Depot, etc. However the staff changes often and service is very uneven. Today they rudely refused to take something back because I had removed the price tag sticker. Recently (I'm not making this up) I talked to a staff person who looked like he was about 14 years old, asking him where a product was located because I couldn't find it, and he said if I couldn't find it they probably didn't have it. Classic! He was totally clueless about what they carried, and even more clueless about customer service. read more

I've been to Magnolia Ace several times. I've never had an issue with anyone there nor have I been met with high prices (although some prices might be higher depending on what you are looking for). I mean, think about it...by the time you drive to Target or Home Depot or wherever, you will be spending the same in gas, time to drive there and also the headaches. The staff is nice and Doug in particular has been especially helpful in explaining to me what I should be getting based on my needs. Tim is also a very helpful individual. I even witnessed one of the cashiers helping a customer out with a heavy load, helping them to their car. That's definitely service! The line was long the last time I was there but the cashiers took care of everyone very quickly. To those people commenting on Ace closing at 6 on weekends - they have lives and families. If they keep their doors open past six they'll never get to go home and have dinner with their families...did'ya ever think of that? "A box of screws" is not enough information. You need size, type, what they are made out of, what you are building...It depends on what you are constructing, and if you don't know what you are looking for, it may take 10 or 15 minutes for someone to help you find what you need. Just trying to put it all in perspective... I'd say give them a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Some of the staff are a bit impolite and lack the knowledge necessary to be effective. Some cashiers give a frequent customer discount while some don't. Returns are a hassle without a receipt.
