Mallory Paint Store-Greenlake provides excellent customer service and really responsive paint matching, order prep and in-store guidance. The store has enough capable staff people to assist and wait times are very short. They really do try to be responsive and helpful, answering questions and making sure that your needs are met. I would recommend them highly. Ben Moore paint seems to last FOREVER! I have been coming here for almost 10 years for all of my painting needs, and what keeps me coming back are the great products and service. I really love Benjamin Moore Aura for it's quality, versatility and zero VOC/low odors. Mallory does a great job matching colors, and they have been very helpful in answering my questions and providing tips. Kudos to all of the staff and management at Benjamin Moore Mallory Paint Store near Greenlake, on North 80th and Aurora. This acknowledgement is long overdue but needs to be written. I have had these staff members names on my desk for months so as to not forget to send a "shout out". Everytime that I go into this store, the staff is helpful, courteous and knowledgable. One busy Sunday, in particular, people were lined up 3-4 deep at the counter, all seeming to have some sort of "an urgent issue", including a mom with 3 little kids that she was very hard to deal with while picking out paint. Being at the back of the line, I watched the staff (shorthanded that day) deal patiently with each and every customer. Eash customer that came in with a problem project, left with a good resolve, including me. The staff names that I got that day were Jayln, Katie and Melany. Each of them should be commended for their above and beyond customer service. Tommy Winterburn, the store manager has also been very helpful on many occassions. I was in need of a stain color match and Mallory Paint was recommended by a professional. I live in the north end but was happy to travel to ensure a "perfect" match. Tommy helped me and did an amazing job of the match. I also had Tommy help me with selecting a color / paint for my front door and a color match for outdoor trim paint. Not only was Tommy exceptionally helpful with provident me all the tips and tricks I needed, he was super friendly and provided excellent service. After my review, tommy the store manager called to ask if their was anything he could do to help. I told him that my painting days are over. I had overestimated my ability. With regard to the paint he Refunded me the cost of the paint as the custom chip did not match the outcome after applied. He was Not sure how that happened as the paint came directly from the can onto the chip . He really felt badly and said if their is anything else he could do. My first review commented about the excellent customer service and that has only has been magnified by the follow up by Tommy. I highly recommend this paint store. I went in with three color cards form RH. Matthew found their formula for the colors and helped me decide how much and what finish to get. He also helped me with supplies (rollers, tape, Spackle etc). Matthew was fantastic and friendly. It is so nice to go to a specialty store where they know their products and have good suggestions and advice. We are all experts in somethings - mine is not paint! It was nice to be treated well and get everything I needed in one spot. read more

There seem to be some confusion in the reviews here. This place is a Benjamin Moore dealer. If you want Benjamin Moore paint, this is where you go. There are a million other sources for paint, and if you have no preference on the brand, I suggest you use them. Home Depot, Lowes, or a True Value brand hardware store will all have paint that will fit the bill. I prefer Benjamin Moore(BM) paints, I think they are superior. I have renovated a lot or property, and I don't like goofing around with weak paint. The new BM 'Aura' series of interior paint is excellent. Its expensive as hell, but you can literally get one coat coverage of a dark color over freshly primed wallboard. I typically do 2 coats for a nice even surface, and to hide my amateur mistakes. The service here is average. They are typically jammed, and the staff seems to do what they can. Again, don't come here for great service. Thats not the point. You are buying a product that you or your contractor are going to have to 'install'. Don't let the service be the issue. Can you buy cheap paint elsewhere? Sure, but when it takes you twice as long to paint your house, and the paint goes to hell after 5 years, was it really worth the 10 extra minutes you didn't spend on BM paint? Well, I say no. You do your own math. read more

They have helped me to match the paint in 3 different areas of our house since the people who used to live here were unkind and didn't leave us any extra paint or any indication of what the paint was! I don't buy paint enough to know if the pricing is fair, but the service is great and the people are always really nice and answer what I am sure are extremely stupid questions. read more

I give this paint store 4 stars. This is a relative rating based on the fact that there is NO paint store in Seattle where you are going to get good service. Once you accept that fact, this place is the best of the lot. I don't know what it is about paint stores, but the bastards who work in them are a sad and disgruntled bunch. Maybe it's the fumes. Maybe they have regrets that their life choices have lead them to this career where they mix paint and deal with paint neophytes all day. They do love to lord their paint knowledge over the general public. You would think they were neurosurgeons warning people against performing operations on friends and family. That being said, at least this store sells Benjamin Moore, which means you get the best colors and a good quality paint that provides coverage with one or 2 coats, depending. Many, many contractors and professional painters use this store, so it has that going for it. Just don't expect the staff to be particularly friendly. I will say they seemed slightly friendlier than Daly's and Rhodda. I do a lot of moving and a lot of painting, so I've gotten paint pretty much everywhere over the years. read more

What's up with the previous reviewers? They say the service sucks, the place is overpriced, but it's still 4 stars? Call a spade a spade!! I went here to get some wood stain. It was $8 for the smallest can they had (basically a pint). I went up to buy it and it rang up at $9. I said the sign said $8, and she was like "Oh, well we've raised our prices twice in the past two months and we didn't update all the labels." WTF. In this economy they're repeatedly _raising_ prices??? Then she insulted me saying "One dollar is that important to you?" Well if it's that important to them why shouldn't it be important to me? After talking to the manager, I got it for $8, but felt bad about the experience. So I returned it 10 minutes later, then went to Home Depot and got the same thing for $5.50. Really kind of bummed to write this review, and how my ongoing experience with this paint store wrapped up this weekend. In preparation for painting my home, I was in and out of this paint store for a couple weeks getting sample pints and had a great experience with staff overall. I made my trim and body paint color choices and phoned them up to make the purchase of 12 gallons of paint. The employee let me know that I would be all set on Saturday morning with all of the paint I needed. Meanwhile, I've pressure washed, caulked, prepped, taped and watched weather to get my house ready to paint on Saturday morning. I arrived here to pick up my order, and they inform me that the paint would be ready on MONDAY. They incorrectly checked their backstock and they don't have enough base gallons to mix my order. Panic set in and I thought my head was going to explode. I have contractors at my house, setting drop cloths, suiting up to paint and they don't have my order ready as promised! In the end, I had to take the four gallons they had, drive to shoreline and get five more, run back home and drop them off so the painters can get started, and then make a run to sodo in construction traffic, all to get my order filled. In addition, my paint crew is down a man, because I'm driving all over Seattle to collect my paint. I get that mistakes happen, and I'm just glad I could track down enough to get the job done. But I won't be back. Not even a discount was offered for the inconvenience. Not the type of treatment you'd expect when buying over $800 worth of paint. read more

I've purchased paint from this store as a DIY homeowner and for professional painters I've used for both exterior and interior work. They work with a lot of professionals and I really appreciate the attention they give to homeowners as well. I've asked for and received great advice on brushes, best application method for hand painting base trim, and putty vs bondo -- to name a few. The store staff are professional, knowledgeable, and no-nonsense. What puts the rating to five stars for me: 1) I've had three paints color matched and they were matched perfectly. 2) It's great that they have a customer database that tracks purchases -- I've referenced previous paints I've uses and that the painter has used. I read all these review saying how wonderful the staff is...but I gotta say, not an especially friendly bunch in my experience...maybe it's because I haven't gotten this Jim guy. I've been in about 4 times and have yet to see a smile or have someone help me who seems like they actually want to. Not sure if paying 70% more for paint here versus Home Depot was worth it or not, guess we'll see over time! read more

I, too, am surprised by the bad reviews. We have had excellent service from them, in the approx 20 visits we've had to their store in the last 3 years. I do agree that some staff are more helpful than others. If in doubt, ask for the manager, he has been very helpful. How often do you go to any business and EVERY employee is as good as the next? Last time I was there, the employee asked me if I wanted to buy the tape that was on sale, because the one I had picked up was not on sale, as I had mistakenly thought. They're busy there...not so much because they are understaffed, but because their paint (and service) are a notch above many others. Most of the employees know paint and colors well. We have even gotten some good design ideas from them, even though their not design experts. If you want the best paint and color matching, go here. If you're looking for cheap custom color paint in 5-10 minutes, the big box stores are a better bet. TIP: Call your order in and either ask when it will be ready or better yet, tell them you will be there at X time. When we've done this, the order is not always ready when we arrive, but often it is, at least it is in the queue. And one more rave about their customer service...we have received several gallons/quarts of free paint because of a mistake. This included a couple gallons of the $60 Aura paint. They could have argued with us, but they didn't...and they've got our repeat business for it. read more

I'm really surprised at all of the bad reviews. I love this place! Located off 80th and Aurora, the parking lot is a bit tough to get to unless you travel east on 80th. Still, there's a spacious parking lot in front of the store (facing Aurora), and the store itself is huge! You go here to get Benjamin Moore paint, which is exactly why I went there. Not only do they have plenty of displays and idea books, but you can purchase 8x8 squares (not tiny squares like most places, 8x8!) of thick paper with a sample color, for only $1. And the best part is, you can return the samples later in the same condition and get your money back! Thus, we were able to grab about 8 different samples to choose an accent color, and it cost us nothing. They do also have huge sized squares that are a lot larger than 8x8, for I believe $4 each. They can match colors, are willing and able to help with suggestions on what colors might match, and store you in the system so you can always find out what you've purchased. You can call ahead of time and have them get something ready for you once you're ready to pick up. I'm subtracting only 1 star because I do see the surlyness sometimes - it's true that some of the cashiers sometimes look frazzled or like they don't want to be there. With a smile and some kindness I find I get it in return, so it won't stop me from going back. The quality of this stuff, specifically the Aura paint, makes Benjamin Moore paint worth it - and this Seattle Paint Supply is close, has everything I need, and service that works just fine. read more

This is a great place to buy paint as long as you don't require any service or have any difficulties. I did fine for 2 transactions but then a new employee mistakenly gave me oil based porch paint when I ordered latex. I was a twit and didn't notice till I tried to clean up (okay, I thought it was some new-fangled latex enamel since I only paint every 5 years). They acknowledged I had ordered latex but required me to bring in the tin to "prove" I had received the alkyd. I did. I received no apology, no offer of discount on the second tin (only required because the oil took ages to dry and the surface on one step discolored when it rained overnight). I asked them to replace my nice trim brush which I use for latex which is not in the state it was since I wasn't prepared for oil paint (would have been a $9 trim brush?). They refused until I "bring in the brush to prove it." and gave me a $1.50 disposable brush with some attitude. Really, I just wanted someone to take responsibility for the inconvenience this caused and apologize. After speaking with 3 different staff, all acknowledging the mistake "from a new employee who pulled the wrong product" nobody said "sorry". Nobody said "Sorry your porch is shiny enamel instead of matt." If you want good service and professionalism try Ace Hardware on Maple Leaf, Home Depot or Lowes. Apparently City Hardware on Eastlake also carries Benjamin Moore paints and does a good job too. read more

My interior designer recommended Benjamin Moore paint. The store has everything, like someone else mentioned, big paper samples, small paint cards, sample jars of the paint. It was very easy to find what I needed. My clerk, Kaitlin, was very knowledgeable, and explained the different sheens, and types of paint to me. I got waited on immediately and got my paint quickly. Now for the caveat. While Kaitlin was mixing the paint, another woman came in (with her painter). She wanted to exchange the paint she bought earlier because it didn't match whatever. This seemed to be a problem. A different clerk told her that the policy was that paint could not be exchanged. So while the manager was debating what to do, we were chatting. The customer told me that she had been buying paint at this store for the last 12 years, and had never had a problem, and was getting a little irritated, since she paid the painter to paint, it had to be redone, and they were cooling their heels waiting. It seems like the associate who sold her the paint hadn't explained it properly. Then another one came by to say that Benjamin Moore eggshell paint had more (or less, who knows?) sheen than regular paint. Anyway, I went into the store with the intention of buying 15 gallons. I only bought 4. I'm going to have my painter use those first, and if everything is satisfactory, I will update my review. The most important thing to me is getting the right paint. I don't care about the cost, because the designer and painter are what cost the most. Two days later - Well, the paint went on perfectly and is absolutely beautiful. It only took one coat, and the self leveling property made everything look flawless. I'm completely satisfied. read more

There's no such thing as cheap paint. You can buy good paint and get the job done with fewer coats and a lot less mess, or spend slightly less per gallon (on at least a few more gallons) if you choose the inferior paint route. The Benjamin Moore paint is top quality. The difference is notable with the very first brush stroke. I like the paint so well, I'd buy it almost without regard to the level of customer service offered by the retailer. In this case, however, the customer service matches the very high standards of the product they sell. Want to get buy cheap, (or so you think?)- this probably isn't the store for you. But if you want top quality materials, sold by people who definitely know their stuff and treat their customers with courtesy and respect, it would be tough to beat Mallory Paint Store. read more

Best paint store on the planet, really! They have every Benjamin Moore color under the sun, even the Canadian ones. Top notch service, high quality materials that add value to your home. Crappy materials don't hold up and don't touch up well down the road. The extra 10-15. per gallon isnt all that much and don't waist your time with cheap paint. read more

I have been buying paint from Mallory Benjamin Moore for 22 years and the quality of paint, advice, and service has never disappointed. In the past 3 months, I have been in the store at N 80th and Aurora Avenue maybe 15-20 times and Sebastian and Tommy deserve high praise for their customer service. I am a home owner, not a painter, who asks LOTS of questions, often asking the same ones 2 or 3 times...did I mention I am a senior? Sebastian and Tommy have answered them all with a smile...even the third time. Both are extremely knowledgeable about the chemicals and pigments in the different paints and so are able to advise customers on the advantages or disadvantages of lightening or darkening different colors. Apparently it is not just the tone that is altered, but often the color itself. Ask for Sebastian or Tommy - always cheerful and professional! They are unable to match paint colors (from existing paint) on weekends (?). Lines are often long, as if they are surprised to have customers on weekends and the wait for paint mixing can also be long. I'd love to support them, they are local, but Home Depot provided much better service and price. I'll never go in there again. read more

I'm helping out a friend with her townhouse and need a quart of touch up paint. So I figure, "I'll get the best" (I know Benjamin Moore is one of the best paints on the market) and went into Seattle Paint Supply at around 2:00. We were meeting to do the work at 6:00. I brought in a small sample I needed color matched. It never crossed my mind that would be an issue. Every time I've bought paint at other stores, they can match the paint and mix the new paint in like 10 minutes. Well, Seattle Paint Supply tells me it will take 24 HOURS. What?!? I pleaded with the guy - I need it by tonight, is there any way you can do it by then? He gives me a bs answer that "All of our staff works at the desk during the day" and "we use 'custom color matching' that is different than what Lowe's does." I asked what the difference was and he wasn't able to tell me anything substantive and wouldn't budge on the 24 hour timetable. I know this order was small, but maybe he doesn't realize I have my own house and spend quite a bit of money on paint. I live very close by. I'll never go in again, even if it is the "best" paint. Oh, by the way, I drove up to Home Depot and had my perfectly matched color in hand within 15 minutes...and the guy was super nice to me. Just saying...I'm 100% for supporting a local business, but they have to make an effort to compete! read more

The staff was very helpful and patient with us at 5:30 pm. They looked up variations of a particular color and made our pint sample at 6:10pm (10minutes after closing time). We never felt rushed. I can't say enough about their one on one attention and eagerness to help us narrow down our paint color search. read more

I had a good experience dialing in a paint color at this store. The color I chose was too bright and they added some darker colors to mellow it out. The parking lot is difficult to get into and the prices seem high but the service helped me get what I wanted. read more

To those who gave a low ranking due to cost: you're right, this is expensive and it isn't the place for you. But, I've painted and stained parts of my house for years and used many products and found that Benjamin Moore is the best. It goes on better, lasts longer and has more depth in the color. My experience says it's worth the money if you can afford it. As to the service: I've had good service here but so should you. They should work to fix the problems. read more
