Everything I said of Maenam is still so true! I'm just a little more known for always ordering the ice cream now LOL. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing spot. I can't recommend Maenam Thai enough.

Second time here. Probably the nicest person in the service industry working here! Came for the panang curry and pivoted to the chalkboard special of roasted duck curry. Blend of red and pineapple curry, the duck was cooked to perfection. While 10/10 heat still isn't super spicy to me, it honestly didn't need it given the depth of flavor.

Avocado fresh rolls (my own plating).

Fantastic find. I hadn't heard of this place, but stumbled on it while I was checking out another restaurant in the area. My understanding is that the owner has worked at basically every great Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh, and the food really stood up to that background. The fresh rolls were crisp and delicious with a touch of avocado serving as an interesting twist on the traditional take. The green papaya salad was nicely presented, with lettuce off to the side in a way that it survived the ride home. The various stir fry dishes were all delicious, with a spicy level 7 being exactly the right level for my own preferences. The tom yum soup was good, with plenty of vegetables, but wasn't exactly the best I've had. One thing I particularly appreciated was that every dish was very vegetable and flavor forward, without an overwhelming quantity of fried tofu or other filler. The ordering and pickup experience was also great. We ordered takeout, and our food was ready almost exactly when it was expected to be. Everything was nicely packaged and was still in great shape by the time we got home. I also appreciated that utensils and other disposable items were an add-on item presented as an option when we picked up our order rather than just tossed in the bag by default.

This is a small but mighty restaurant serving up delicious, authentic Thai classics. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The dining room is simple and small, but well decorated with lots of live plants that add a lovely charm to the experience. I've tried the see ew chicken and the cashew chicken, both are amazing. Definitely stop by and enjoy this little gem!

Very quaint and the food smells DELICIOUS!!!

Very quaint and friendly. The aromas from the kitchen are amazing! While we were eating in the restaurant, we saw at least 10 different parties arriving to pick up their takeout orders. This is always a great sign! Their pork dumplings, chive dumplings, and avocado rolls were delicious as appetizers - sauces complemented each appetizer well. Our main dishes - Pad See Ew, Thai Street Noodles, and crab fried rice were all delicious and perfectly seasoned - they take great care in making sure the spice level is what the diners want, which is wonderful. Each of our dishes was absolutely FRESH and TASTY. Nothing fell short of wonderful. Yum! We loved this cozy restaurant and shall most definitely return!

Pad thai lunch special

Got the pad thai here for lunch as takeout. I got it with veggies and it was delicious! So many different types of veggies (cauliflower and zucchini were nice additions!) and a really good sauce. The lunch special was a good deal with the pad thai and a spring roll. I definitely want to come back and try their curry lunch specials.

Crab Fried Rice

Really great Thai food! Four of us went and sat in the very tiny eat-in area. They have 8 two-tops setup inside. It looks like they do a huge take-out business. Two in our group got panang curry, another got crab fried rice and I got the Spicy basil stir fry with chicken. The vegetables in the curry and stir fry were plentiful and crisp. Sauces were seasoned well. Be careful with the spice level requests. The scale is 1 to 10. I picked a 5 and I wouldn't have wanted to go much higher than that. It was spicy! Our server was delightful but I did not get their name.

I always feel a little skeptical heading into places that people rave about but let me tell you - the hype is legit with this place. The dining area is rather small but filled with plants and has a nice cozy vibe. We tried the crispy chicken strips, tom kha soup, spring rolls, and pad see ew. Bell was absolutely delightful and took great care of us, making sure we had everything we needed and were happy with our food. And the food... WOW. I eat a lot of Thai and this was hands down the best I've ever had. Fresh tasting, solid portions, and you can tell they don't skimp on quality. Prices very reasonable too!

Spicy eggplant with chicken

We had a great first experience at this small Thai restaurant, which is primarily a takeout spot. However, they do have four small tables for two. Service is very friendly and efficient. they have a large menu, and everything sounded good, but we settled on Tom Yum soup with chicken, my husband got spicy eggplant with chicken, and I got a green curry with shrimp, and we split the crispy tofu appetizer. My husband enjoyed the soup except the chicken that was in the soup was slightly overcooked. The eggplant with chicken was delicious and it was a huge portion. The dishes come with a side bowl of white rice. My curry with shrimp was quite flavorful and had a lot of different vegetables in it, including some eggplant in there as well. I love Japanese eggplant. We both really enjoyed the crispy tofu and it comes with kind of a sweet Thai chili sauce with peanuts on top, which was quite tasty for dipping. I ended up taking half of my Curry home and it filled the entire takeout container. They did tons of takeout business while we were seated eating inside. I would recommend that if you were planning to eat there and had more than two people that you call ahead and make sure that they can accommodate you given how small the places and the limited tables. we found easy street parking right out front. we chose this restaurant due to proximity to Moondog's just down the block where we were going to hear music. I would definitely eat there again.

Pad Kee Mow

My new favorite Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh! The khao soi and pad kee mow were both delicious. We would definitely come back to try more dishes. Highly recommend!

Panang Curry
Maggie Z.

I'll be back soon for the panang curry. I'm always looking for a vegetable-heavy curry without too much spice, and the tofu panang packed with zucchini, broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers hit the spot better than anywhere else I've tried. The 3 spice level was perfect for my embarrassingly Midwestern palate- there's enough of a kick to enjoy it without needing to search for milk. The takeout was packaged carefully with a mind toward the food making the drive home without getting soggy. Definitely worth the delivery fee or drive over the river!

This review is for The 98 (contemporary Thai restaurant)…read more High hopes. I was waiting for the opportunity to review this, but it's another case where I will be brutally honest while feeling mildly sheepish for being harsh. This place won't be in business a year from now. The ambiance is tacky. It was not only uncomfortable, but the jazz music was annoying. We ordered tea thinking it would be a small pot like you'd get at a typical Asian restaurant. Well for $4, you got to pick what commercial tea BAG you wanted. No thanks. There was NOTHING we liked on the menu. No Spring rolls. No summer rolls. No red curry chicken. They only had ultra-expensive "specialty" curries that were exotic in presentation but lacking in taste. We ordered the mussels. The portion size to cost ratio was tiny. They weren't particularly good and were the style you'd get at an all-you-can-eat buffet like at the Mills Mall (TJ's Buffet). They were $14; by comparison the ones that you get at Aldi are infinitely better. The chicken satay on skewers were tasty. I'll give them that. Yum. The Massaman curry was outrageously expensive, and lacked volume, vegetables, protein and taste. Nothing like I was used to. It was also very sugary sweet. The pumpkin curry was so salty it was almost inedible. Portion size was small. All meals came with a deep-fried dipping bread that was pure oil/grease. Naan would have been better. The staff was sweet. We appreciated their kindness and attentiveness. However, they acted like we never had Thai food before and were coaching us on how to eat it. (We are Thai food connoisseurs). Anxious to know what restaurant will be here in 2024. This feels scammy.

Jazz music softly played overhead. For a restaurant that had just opened the service was impeccable throughout the entire meal. Wait staff were attentive, but not intrusive. Chef Natalie was delightful as she visited tables, introducing herself and pleased to talk about the various dishes. She made sure that my wife's dishes were gluten free, assuring us that almost all of her dishes could be modified to be so. Then there was the food. Complimentary Taro Fries were new and tasty with their side sauce. Outstanding! I started out with New Zealand Mussels, two varieties were nicely plated with a delicious seafood sauce. The sauce was so good, I held on to it to put on other dishes. Next was Wild Mushroom Tom Kha. We love Thai food and have sampled many Tom Kha recipes, this is the best in the city! Our shared dish was Kao Pad Puu, a jumbo lump crab fried rice with egg, scallion, and carrot, delicious! It was served steaming hot and stayed that way as we cleaned the plate! The portion was easily shareable. The 98 will become our go to Thai restaurant!

This is not a high-rent location on a gentrified main street, and many folks would drive right by based on appearances. It also wasn't very busy, and that's a shame, because Tewada is absolutely fantastic. We were met by two very down-to-earth ladies enjoying a smoke break out front, and we knew right away that they were going to take good care of us. Our server was a sweetheart and a real character...we love to meet people like her. The place is not big, but it's well-worn and very cozy, and also super festive with all of the cute Easter decorations. We started with an order of fried dumplings, and they were very tasty, presented with care, and were obviously homemade. My wife then ordered a boba tea that she really enjoyed. For entrees we both went with a curry dish. My wife ordered the red curry noodles with shrimp, and she was very happy. She is not big on spicey food and went with the lowest level of spice - she chose 3 on the (kind of odd) 3-10 scale. Although it did have a small kick to it, you should not be scared if you too don't like hot and spicy food. I picked the massaman curry with chicken at 7 on the spice scale. I can't say enough about how much I liked the dish...fantastic! And speaking as someone who does like spicy food, a 7 is about as much as I would recommend for the typical American pallet. It was HOT, but still flavorful and enjoyable. Is this place fancy? No. However, the food was authentic, homemade, and not something you'll find very often. We watched as several locals came in for take-out or just boba for the kids, and it was clear from the long conversations that this place is valued in the community. We left with a smile, talked about it all afternoon, and will definitely be back. A solid 5!

I'm a spicy marg lover so I tried-new person same old mistakes-it didn't really strike me as spicy but more so smoky and I wanted spicy. We did the khao yum-it was unique, I think I would really have loved this. If it was hot out it seems like it would be very refreshing and light and more ideal for the spring and summer and like I said we went in the dead of winter. I did the beef tenderloin as my main and it was good, it wasn't too spicy, had a nice flavor, but I don't know that I would order it again. If it wasn't so hard to get a reservation, I would definitely come here more. I really liked the vibe and the aesthetic.
