where to start? how about at the entrance: this is a cavernous venue whereupon entering you'll find a volume of dining tables to the right, and to the left a massive bar with high tops at one end, booths along the sides, and kitchen stadium at the back of the restaurant. We had reservations and were promptly seated - at a booth in the bar area. Ok. Usually the bar is open seating, and reservations are in the dining room, but ok. Lots of servers hustling. Good. The decor is woodsy american\mexican fusion perhaps? Not sure. The food is definitely fusion. Or more accurately stated, confusion. Two of the dishes at our table were Jambalaya and Seafood Explosion. First, the Jambalaya I'd advise avoiding if you've had anything close to the Creole dish. This version is served over linguini instead of rice. But trust me that's not the only difference. Next, the Seafood Explosion; this dish is described as white fish fillet, shrimp, bay scallops, in a brown buerre sauce. Sorry if I missed a few of the included sea creatures. Anyway, this seafood dish is served with ...mashed potatoes? Strange, but it kind of works because the sauce is actually more like the gravy you get with chicken fried steak. These entree combinations remind me of how you'd build a smorgasbord dinner at home using remnants from the fridge of meals past. Horrible server tonight, food was meh. I asked if the ribs were gluten free and the server's response was "no, nothing is gluten free and has to be modified". The way she said it was in a tone that implied I was the biggest inconvenience. She then proceeds to lecture me about gluten. Now my son was diagnosed with Celiac disease 15 years ago, I am well aware of what gluten is. She kept telling me their butter is house made and has "soy" in it so it has gluten in it. I finally couldn't take her tone or lecture and said soy doesn't have gluten in it, soy SAUCE has gluten in it. So then she says "yeah our butter has soy sauce in it". She also tells me my son can't have any seasoning because they "use white pepper that has gluten in it". Oh and all their salad dressing has gluten in it. She made it very clear that they do not want customers who are gluten free coming there. She made me feel like ordering a steak with out seasoning was asking her to cut off her own arm. She had the absolute worst attitude i have ever experienced at a restaurant. And are you seriously telling me that Madrones literally puts gluten in everything??? Their butter? Their pepper? Might want to add a sign that says people with gluten sensitivity not welcome here. read more

Madrones was once upon a time a fav for our family and friends... Unfortunately no more... Our recent visit was possibly the worst meal my family has collectively had out (excluding a food poisoning)... Had it just have been the food experience I would not be posting a review... I would have probably just assumed the cook was out sick... However, the hospitality or lack there of when the poor food quality was brought to their attention was a how to of "what not to do, what not to say"... I have liked the food since they have opened. For some reason I seem to always gravitate back to the drunken ribeye. The flavor is always there, though my latest visit, it was prepared correct but was very tough and chewy (only one time out of ten). The service is improving w every visit. At first it was bad. Sad or depressed wait staff and seemed inexperienced but has improved. I try to give a new place a year before I judge the service too harshly. Although my latest visit , the bartender looked at me like I was green and purple because I changed my mind from a house salad to a Caesar. Like I broke the law. This place can get very busy and crowded, so there can be a rather long wait to be seated at times (which is the only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars), but the food is totally worth the wait. Try the Sliders and Calamari for starters. Hubby loves his burgers and the Le Grand is one of his favorites in all of Frederick. My daughter still raves about their Prime Center-Cut Sirloin, but for me it's all about their Double-Cut Mongolian Pork Chop. The staff is great, even when dealing with a busy crowd. read more

Sooo... I am a regular here and I do love the atmosphere and menu. My favorite thing to order is the kale salad with chicken or grilled salmon. It has dates, dried cherries, goat cheese, corn kernels and avocado. Today I ordered a grilled salmon Caesar and it was great. I did find two hairs on my plate. I worked in restaurants for 25 years so hair doesn't bother half as much as complacent staff. You know like staff who thinks they can do whatever and can't lose their job or don't care if they lose their job. Staff that never checks back after they given you something to see how it's going. Friday evening bartenders seem to be preoccupied by phones and attractive patrons as opposed to average patrons out for a nice dinner. The bartenders didn't wipe our counter as we sat down after others left, they got us drinks but never asked what we wanted for food. About 40 minutes after our drinks I was able to flag a bartender down for food. I wasn't impressed with the staff. It really didn't improve Hence the 3 stars. Hopefully, when I return I will have good cause to change the review. read more

Update to my review on 11/3/2017. Our server reached out to me thru Yelp to apologize for the gift card confusion. Although that was very kind, she should not have been the one to apologize or contact me. She told me that she did not use the gift card search properly, but to me that doesn't matter. Surely her manager should have known how to do a proper search. She handled the situation the best she could. It was her supervisor who was condescending and rude. Basically he was calling my sister and me liars. Our server said that $10 was put back on our gift card; however, as noted in my original review, the manager gave us back someone else's gift card so that does us no good. I have long since thrown that card away. Until management apologizes directly and refunds our $10, we will not return. read more

We love Madrones and will be back. The crab dip is the best that I have had. Good selection of beers and drinks. I do wish they had a neutral lager or ale on tap, they mostly have IPAs which I love but the hubby doesn't like. He had a Belgium draft that was good. The crabcake is amazing! I tried the seafood explosion which was good but I wish it had large shrimp and scallops rather than tiny scallops and cocktail shrimp. I will definitely go for the crabcake next time. We got a piece of the homemade cheesecake to go and it looks delish. Can't wait to eat later! read more

My husband and I went to celebrate our 9th year anniversary last Thursday night, beautiful decorations, nice atmosphere and great staff. My server Adrianna was terrific!! super attentive, sweet, always smiling and most important she answered all of our questions since it was our first time. She recommended the crab dip as an appetizer, delicious. Adrianna also recommended us the pork chop, she warned us that it was going to take 25 mins it was okay with us. It was worth waiting, it was covered in a sweet glaze (yummy), the mashed potatoes were okay a little to salty but eatable. My husband ordered the fish of the day, he loved it. When we finished our food, Adrianna surprised us with a chocolate chip cookie for our anniversary, so sweet of her! Great experience. We will definitely be back! (Ask for Adrianna) read more

I wish I could rate Madrones ZERO stars. Why? Because when the staff is blatantly racist, they don't deserve any stars. I went in with a group of 5 people. 4 Asians and 1 Caucasian. Immediately, the hostess was not accommodating. She looked around the restaurant and said they were fully booked even though half of the restaurant was empty. Anyone could see that. We waited for 20 minutes before we were even greeted by Dan (or Eric?). Can't remember his name. He was super rude, super slow, and super mean. He got our orders, never said "you're welcome" when we all said "thank you", and never checked up on us to see how we were doing. The rest of the servers were equally as rude. 2 blonde servers screamed "EXCUSE ME" and rolled their eyes as we were getting up to leave after we paid. If you are not clearly Caucasian, DON'T COME HERE. Everyone working at this establishment will think they are holier than thou. read more
