Fantastic location right on the water with lots of windows to enjoy the incredible views that Orcas Island has to offer. We walked in at peak dinner time and were seated without delay. Our server was great, very friendly and on top of things. Despite a bit of a crowd, the noise level was more than tolerable and we rather enjoyed music selection, which was easily audible of the general restaurant noises. Being the end of a busy holiday weekend, they were out of a few things but still had plenty to choose from and made sure we knew up front what wasn't available. They have a nice selection of signature cocktails and an ok wine selection. We started with an order of clamari, which was some of the best I've had (of the battered deep-fried variety). Crispy flavorful crust with tender, perfectly cooked meat, served with a lemon wedge and a light, tangy aioli dipping sauce. For an entree, she had the flat iron steak, which demonstrated that when it comes to meat and potatoes, this place has it down. Cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare and topped with bleu cheese crumbles and balsamic vinegar, but not so much as to overpower the flavor of the quality cut of beef. Accompanied by crisp broccoli rabe and killer garlic roasted potatoes. My meal was the only misstep for the night - Caesar salad, ordered with prawns but served with scallops subbed in due to ingredient availability (our server confirmed the substitution as soon as she found out they were out of prawns). The portion of lettuce was sufficient, but it was unfortunately grossly overdressed with a creamy yet bland dressing (and I love my dressings, so too much for me means a lot). My protein turned out to be 2.5 (three technically, but the third was at most half the size of the others) slightly overcooked scallops. Not great, but it's a bar and grill, not a salad bar. The overall experience was very enjoyable and I would absolutely recommend this place, especially for an early dinner so you can enjoy the view with some daylight left, just leave the salad for a side and head for the next page for an entree. read more

Bloody Mary's amazing. Fish and chips fantastic. Rib eye, gnocchi, grilled salmon and whiskey sour couldn't even get close. 1 rib eye was nearly burned to a crisp while being raw on the inside while the other looked like boiled overcooked beef. The grilled salmon was charred on the outside, dry inside and the portion was tiny (approx 4oz) for the price. All 3 were served with mashed potatoes and asparagus which lacked salt and pepper and flavor in general. My friend never having tried gnocchi before ordered it and it had some serious issues. It came in a soup bowl with a soup spoon, but it wasn't intended to be a soup the sauce was just that watery. The menu called it mushroom and spinach gnocchi yet both were hard to find so my friend asked for extra mushrooms. Our waitress told us it's normally an $8 charge for extra mushrooms, but the chef "hooked it up" for us. All together dinner was a sad figment of their lunch offerings and we expected so much more after that experience and the amount they charge. We won't return for dinner the next time we visit Eastsound. read more

Ordered the clam chowder. It was good, but lacked pepper to cut the cream and the portion was small for the bowl servings. Also, the staff was inattentive and somewhat rude. Nice effort -- lots of clams, though they were rubbery, but for the price the portions should be as advertised and well seasoned. read more

In all honesty, the food was good but we wouldn't return due to the lack of genuine and sincere customer service from the person waiting our table. There was no communication from our waitress regarding the length of our wait (1 hour from the time we placed our order), nor the up charge on cheese for our burgers, but she did communicate in an awkward moment when she interrupted a few in our party from ordering beer at the bar. We had inquired and were informed from a very warm and kind staff member, happy hour drinks needed to be ordered in the bar before 6. We literally were in the middle of ordering and she leaned in and stopped our order. An uncomfortable moment for all. We are grateful to be on Orcas and will take the evening experience as one to remind others warmth and kindness go a long way...Also, a little bread or crackers when the wait for burgers is an hour. read more

Two stars for the service and the 20 percent gratuity tacked onto my bill. There were 6 in our party, 4 adults and 2 children. The server took our order, served our order, and we had to flag her down to get our bill. Imagine our surprise when we had to pay 20% gratuity on our bill after the tax had been added. $16.00... Seems I did NOT see the note that said party of 6+ had to pay inflated amount for miserable service. To add to the insult... when presented my credit card slip I was given the total of $104.00 and offered the chance to add a tip. I do not feel obligated to pay a specific percentage of bill... I believe I should be able to pay for service rendered. read more

The food was really good, but the service was the worst we have experienced in a long time. Had to wait for the waitress, had to wait for the food, had to wait for the drinks, had to wait for the check, had to wait for the change. Seriously, the front of the house needs some serious training. No matter how good the food or the view, if you're ignored and it takes 1 1/2 to get your lunch, it's just not worth it. read more

It would be best to stay away from this restaurant. It is poorly managed. This is an example of what happens when there is no manager or owner on the premises. We waited about an hour without ever getting our food and finally left. The restaurant was about a quarter full. Suffice it to say that the hostess and the waiter could have cared less. read more

Showed up at 12:15 on a Sunday with 6 adults and 2 kids and were told we had too many people they would have trouble serving us. With a restaurant full of empty tables it's pretty clear they aren't really interested in providing good service or making any $$$....kind of sad actually ended up at Mia's where they were happy to have us. read more

The service was very friendly and not invasive when we were eating. The food seems inventive, but there was too much pepper in the dishes, the mixed drinks were watered down, and there is red onion on EVERYTHING. Our mixed drinks were watered down, the mint mojito being especially so with too much lime and unbalanced mint proprtions. The fish and chips were okay. Overall, it is overpriced for the proprtions and lack of balance to the flavors across several of the dishes, making for an unfinished and less satisfying eaying experience. I ynderstand that tourist spots on islands are expensive to run. Still, it is fair to expect adequate food with good dervice in a close but comfortable setting. read more

We just didn't have a great experience here. The service was slow to seat us, and it was very warm inside. I ordered the special, but was told 10 minutes later that it was sold out. Turns out that was maybe a good thing, because a lady at the table next to ours sent hers back (bones in the fish?not exactly sure). So ordered the burger, which was VERY greasy. Then the server dropped a glass of coke all over my boyfriend. Which we were then charged for. read more

Wouldn't come by the table after drinks delivered, had to flag another server to figure out where our food was after 40mins. Was given half order of French fries to attempt to placate us. The location is absolutely lovely with a wonderful view of the water, and the island. It's ambiance depends on the time of year. During the summer it is crowded with tourists and can be challenging to cope with. The off season is a bit more laid back and the staff seems a bit less hassled. The decor is wood and windows. The bar is off to one side with the ever present sports TV visible. We've been many times and have always enjoyed our meals and have look forward to trying the different beverages as well. The fish and chips is great and the spinach salad is very flavorful! Usually the service is good and the wait staff is attentive. This last time we were really put off by the BLTA sandwich. It is a generous sandwich with plenty of everything BUT two of the slices of bacon were grossly undercooked! The waitress didn't come near our table so we couldn't send it back. We pointed it out to her when she finally came to collect our plates. She made a face and gave us our bill. She didn't offer to get us another sandwich or comp us for the less than satisfactory meal. This was a surprise. Maybe they can afford to be casual figuring most of the clients are tourists who won't be back that frequently. I hope not. read more

3 of us split the 3-piece fish and chips and the blue cheese salad, which was plenty of food! The beer battered fish and chips was as good as we've had, the cod was cooked perfectly, the beer batter remained light and crispy to the last bite, the tartar sauce was not chunky like some restaurants serve, the fries were hot and plentiful, and the caraway seed slaw was well dressed and creamy. The blue cheese and shrimp salad too was well dressed, and the toasted almonds were a nice surprise. We liked our meal so much that we had to come back for lunch the next day as we had a wedding to attend that evening. BTW, that 2nd visit was a super busy Saturday afternoon and yet the servers were very attentive and same quality meal. This place is terrible. Avoid. Such a beautiful island and all the other restaurants have much friendlier staff. We gave this place 2 chances. Once we called to see if they could seat a 4 top at 6 they said no, we asked for to go food, we get there and they have 5 different open tables. 7/11/18 had dinner here. Many of the other reviews noted lousy service. Tonight the service was delightfully friendly and very quick. Jenelle was great! Our meal was served within a half hour of arrival. I agree with other comments about the calamari. Don't order it. I had this for lunch one time and it is a plate of oiled breading with very little calamari in it. I had to scrape off most of the breading to find anything edible. Used to love this place, we always make a point of going for their crab bisque every time we visit. After a very long wait for the ferry due to fog (almost 2.5 hours late) we were starving and made Madrona Grill our first stop. Crab bisque is no longer on the menu and the prices seemed high, even for Island prices...lunch is a better. The food is good, but not that good. Our waiter told us the owners just changed the menu the day before. We politely complained (we try very hard to always be nice and not be demanding and rude "tourists") but our waiters attitude took a bit of a nosedive. Maybe if they put the crab bisque back on the menu we'll give it another chance...and they lost a fantastic guy when One-eyed Jack left. He was nice to everyone. read more

Walked in there as they were clearing out a table on the outdoor patio. Asked the lady who greeted us if we could have that table and she said that there were no open tables. It was incredibly hot and dank inside of the restaurant and so we left and went somewhere else. The main redeeming feature was that the restaurant was open when we needed it. The food was just OK, very slow service and when the food finally arrived, the onion rings and fries were lukewarm. The restaurant wasn't that busy and the menu not too demanding so not certain why it was so slow. Felt very overpriced for slow service and lukewarm food. Won't be returning. read more

We visited Orcas Island for the first time over Memorial Day weekend. After perusing the menus of several locations during the day, we made reservations to come to Madrona that night, mostly because of the view of the water. When we arrived, there was no host/hostess in sight. We waited at least 15 mins. before being acknowledged by a busser, who confirmed our reservation and lead us to our table. After we were seated, we waited another 15 mins. before a female server asked us if we had been helped yet. She finally got our server for us and we ordered the bruschetta, Fish and Chips, and chicken pasta. Our daughter was very hungry, so we were anxious for the appetizer to arrive. However, when it did, we were completely grossed out to find a long, black hair draped on top of one of the pieces of bruschetta. We promptly sent it back, and the server barely said a word. My daughter and I left to use the restroom, and when we came back (she was starving at this point), all of the food had arrived, and the server had apologized to my husband. We began to eat, only to discover that the new plate of bruschetta ALSO had a hair on it!! It was not the same hair, and it was not in the same place. Are you kidding me?? At this point, I couldn't stomach anything, and stopped eating my entree. We pointed out the new hair to the waiter who said "Jesus, I can't believe it", took the bruschetta away. He came back to offer a dessert "on the house". I would never eat anything in this place "on the house" or not. Management never came over and talked to us. If I could have given this dining experience negative stars, I would. Do not come here. read more

Not a fan. Very expensive for sandwiches that were very standard fare. Staff was quite a bit stressed out and unfriendly, which was odd because we noticed that it was not peak rush and we had at least 5 people attend to our table, so they were definitely not understaffed. There are only a handful of outside tables and a handful of tables near the window, so most patrons won't be enjoying the view. read more

Very disappointing experience! In the mood for a good steak. Generally I try to avoid ordering steaks unless I'm at a steakhouse. Since they had rib eye and flat iron steaks, I trusted the waitress who highly recommended the rib eye. I ordered it rare. Didn't expect Steak Tartare, but that's what I got. It was a very large steak, looked beautiful on the outside, totally raw on the inside. The waitress took the steak back, unfortunately took the potatoes and vegetables as well. This left me watching my table companion most of her entire dinner. Apparently their policy doesn't include taking the meat off the plate and leaving me something to eat. When she brought the recooked steak (not a new one), it was overcooked, well-done. The potatoes were the old ones, the asparagus now dried up & slightly burnt. I was given a choice, get something else, order another steak or eat what was there & they would comp it. Tried to eat the meal, potatoes ok, veggies dried up, steak tender with good flavor but I like my meat rare or medium rare. In addition, my friend had ordered a drink, they even checked her I'd , but never gave it to her. When I mentioned it to the waitress she seemed surprised, not sure why. Won't return. read more

Very disappointing. Slowest service I have experienced in a long time! Not only did we wait for an hour for hamburgers, one meal was so cold it had to be sent back and they had to remake it! I had Ice Tea and was never offered a refill and ice was melted after 10 min. We came in on the Monday after Christmas-not many places in town are open. Major off-season vibe but that's to be expected. However, we were seated right away/good drink service/decent waitress service however from the time we sat down and the food was finally delivered--WE SAT FOR ONE FULL HOUR. The waitress apologized and adjusted the bill accordingly. But come on? It takes an hour to cook the food? I've never written a review before, but felt compelled after visiting The Madrona Bar & Grill twice on a recent trip. The food was mediocre, at best. Our hamburgers were overcooked, but we didn't expect too much. Most incredible was the service, or lack thereof. We arrived to watch the US Open on TV, and eat/drink. We asked 5 or 6 different times to have the TV channel switched to the golf match, and we're told "sure....when the bartender has a break." Despite repeated requests to the bartender, she refused to do this, claiming she was too busy (clearly not the case. Afer 90 minutes of frustration, we left upset, but were forced to pay a 20% tip (our party exceeded six people). Avoid this place at all costs! read more
