I did not have a very good visit with this office When I made the appointment no option for the same day or next day were available as advertised. When I arrived, I was asked to fill out some paperwork, which is normal. One of the pages was for digital imaging of my retina. I was very interested in the option and left it blank so I could talk to the Dr about it. The receptionist called me back for the first part of the exam and I asked about digital mapping. She said the $39.00 (I think) was the copay. I told her I have Blue Sheild VSA that manages my Medi-Medi. Medicare covers the bulk of the cost, and that Medi-cal covers the rest including the copay. She started talking to me like I was a child and didn't know what I was talking about, which really set me off. I tried to talk to her to explain how my dual insurance plan worked and she wasn't having any of it. She insisted I would have to pay the copay which was incorrect. I started asking about contacts with this first person and she brushed me off saying I would have to talk to the Dr. I then was called for the exam and it mostly went well. I kept asking about contacts and felt like I was ignored, I was only getting an exam for frames. I have serious sinus issues and wearing frames can be very difficult. When the exam was finished the next person just pointed to a small section of frames and said that's what my insurance would cover. Again, I brought up the contacts issue and was ignored. There was a small selection of frames that were kind of crappy. I didn't know what I was doing picking out frames. I picked out a wire frame that was lightweight. I took them up, she said that they were to narrow for my head.... I have a big head. She went over and picked up a pair of plastic heavy black old man glasses and handed them to me. I at least tried them on but there was no way. She found a pair of wire frames that was just ok. t up to finish ordering the frames and again I brought up contacts. I wasn't really looking for frames. I told her that I had called my insurance and got the details of what they would cover, which was pretty good and they would cover contacts. Again in a firm voice (again like I am a child), she made it clear that I knew she had been doing this for 15 years billing Medical and she knew what she was doing and said medical doesn't cover contacts (they do) She then said of I had wanted contacts that I would have to get another "contacts" exam which would be another $169.00 and insurance didn't cover and pay for the contacts out of pocket (I called insurance again today and it did cover it) I would have to make another appointment for it at a latter date. She said she would order the frames I picked out. I asked how long it would take and she said 4 weeks which I thought was nuts to wait that long. I called Lyft to get a car to go home and was waiting just outside the door when she came out and said that she might have been wrong about what my insurance would cover. She said it does cover contacts and gave me a dollar amount of what they cover. However, I would have to make another appointment for contacts which I wanted to begin with. I am calling today and canceling my frames order, I do not want to continue doing business with anyone who thinks its somehow ok to treat people like they did. read more

Dr. Soriano is a professional, but also very friendly doctor. She did a very thorough check on my eyes and current prescription and, unfortunately, pointed out that a scan of my right eye indicated that I may have macular degeneration (no symptoms yet). She offered to send me the scans so I can follow up with the retina specialist I saw last December. read more

DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU! I bought a pair of faulty frames and lenses at the end of December. I brought them in to replace a stripped screw. A few weeks later the lense popped out again. They had to reorder for a new set of frames. Last week, same issue....the lens just fell out. I went in to talk to Dr. Chesner but he wasn't in. I was told by two ladies they could only give a store credit. I want a refund. This place sells faulty items. I went in the next day to talk to Doctor Chesner he not only didn't offer a refund for selling a bad product he never offered a credit. He wanted to try to fix them AGAIN. I didn't want that and hey called me "foolish". HE REFUSED TO LISTEN TO ME WHEN HE DIDNT UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION D O NOT GO HERE! I should have known better. When I received my glasses, I couldn't see out of them because they didn't make me lenses correct. Dr. Chesner told me not to get my glasses at Costco because they use inferior lens making equipment than the lab he uses that has $1 million equipment. When I asked for my money back, they subtracted $100 for the lenses. Turns out his cost is $100, yet he charges his clients 5-6x that amount. I was NEVER told a fee would be charged if they made my glasses incorrectly if I requested my money back. They were not pleased when I asked for a refund. They charged me over $600 for prescription Ray-Bans, which included my insurance deductible. Yet I could get two pairs of prescription glasses from Costco for $300 (no insurance deductible) with lenses made correctly. Do not get your eye exam or glasses from this shady operation. read more

I had not been to Madison Optics Optometry since 2016. I had been seeing an optometrist somewhere closer to home. I live in La Mesa. I was really having trouble with my vision. 3 eye surgeries later I was not happy with my current eyecare. I went back to Madison Optics Optometry. Boy was I really glad that I did. The staff was awesome. Dr. Soriano was fantastic. They had even saved the original Ray Ban lenses for me that I had replaced with my prescription which no longer good. They replaced them with them for me at no cost. My eyes are feeling great. I couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend them for all your vision needs. Prompt and courteous. I came here yesterday for an eye exam. Dr. Rosenblatt was my OD that did the exam and she was great. I felt just a bid hurried in the initial part of exam but then things got in a groove and in the end I was very appreciative of Dr. Rosenblatt's extra attention to my situation and also she clarified for me some things that were related to my other glasses prescriptions. I didn't even realize the last lens center had only filled my glasses in reading strength and not distance! I was glad to finally get a comprehensive look at what's going on with my aging eyes and she presented me with all the options for my consideration. She even had me try out some contact lenses to see what that feels like. I left there with all the information I needed and am thankful for the extra time she took to give me a solid understanding about my prescription and my options. I have to knock a star off for the fact that the place was so hot inside when I went in, and had the heater blowing on my head for 15 minutes to the point I was feeling sick. read more

Recently went to get an eye exam. Dr. Soriano saw my wife and I and she was great. The person who helped me was not so great. She was a bit sarcastic and not helpful at all. Don't know her name but she wears glasses. I had to go back to see the doctor for a corrected prescription and the same girl that helped me when I picked up my glasses helped me again. She's not friendly and not willing to help. She's rude and seem like she doesn't want to be bothered. read more

I love this place. My wife and I brought our two children during the exam and the staff inside the office accommodated for us and welcomed us like family. I've been using Dr. Chesner's office for my Gatorz prescription sunglasses for 6 years. They have done 3 pairs of Gatorz prescriptions. They are fantastic, the staff is friendly and professional( I usually speak with Melody) and the turn around time is great. They offer a wider range options than Gatorz offers for lens prescriptions with a great selection of lens colors and tint. I would recommend them before I went anywhere else for Gatorz prescription lenses. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Chesner. I am not the best patient when it comes to my eyes, but Dr. Chesner has always been so calming and sweet. He always gives me a heads up when he is about to do something, so that I'm not caught off guard or surprised (which really eases my anxiety). Recently, my daughter has had some problems with her vision as well.... so we sent her to Dr. Chesner and his relaxing attitude towards younger patients is perfect in every way! I would not recommend using "ZOCDOC" to make an appointment. I made one using it and took time off work however when I never got a confirmation and called 3.5 hours before my appointment they told me someone else took it. What is even the point of using "ZOCDOC" if it doesn't reliably get you an appointment? Such a waste of time. I'm sure the office is great though. read more

My daughter and I have been patients of Dr. Chesner's for years, unfortunately, he retired. We got to see Dr. Soriano this year and she was great. She patient and caring. She took her time with the exams and made us laugh!!! When it came to ordering glasses not a good experience at all. Usually the Mexican girl helps but this year Klarisa helped us and she made me feel dumb. I had questions regarding my insurance coverage and she seemed irritated when she would answer us. She was just rude. Usually we would enjoy picking out glasses but this year we felt a bit pressured to make our selection quick. She seemed like she was rushing us out the door. We ordered glasses but my daughter is unsure if she made the right choice. Hopefully it is a better experience when we pick up our glasses. We will continue seeing Dr. Soriano but next time we will be ordering glasses somewhere else. read more

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are open on Saturdays until 2pm and have a better choice of name brand glasses in comparison to 2013! Booked an appt on Zocdoc, there were three options for the day I picked (which was two days in advance), got a call the next day (today) that they needed to cancel and there were no appts at all for that day. No explanation given, just said she needed to cancel and they were full up tomorrow. I know it's booking errors, but why have an online booking system if it doesn't work, or doesn't matter? Just frustrating, moving on to a new place. read more

I have been his patient of Dr. Chesners for many years and usually I only get my prescription and order glasses elsewhere. The old staff was not that helpful and sometimes rude but there is new staff was freat. Melony and Karissa were amazing!!! Melony was so helpful and explained everything. I ended up buying 2 pairs of glasses. If you need new glasses go visit either of the girls. read more

I left San Diego a few years ago and have never been able to find any better doctors than Dr Chesner and Dr Roseblatt to evaluate my vision and supply what was needed for better vision. Both are top-notch and the most friendly, caring individuals you will find in the profession and I have come across a few doozies in my time. If my insurance covered a visit to their office, I would drive the 2-1/2 hours without a second thought. In all likelihood this will be the one highly positive review given by me.
