Had a very pleasant experience here with my eye exam appointment. Dr. Kevin has excellent attention to detail, and all the dumb and somewhat unanswerable questions I give he tries to answer to in a very professional and educated manner. He also offered to answer any questions or concerns I may have had. During my exam, I couldn't help but notice the exam room had what seemed to be all newer, equipment and machines, which was assuring to me that all readings would be accurate. Years ago I used to have really bad myopia(near sightedness)which has improved dramatically over the past 5+ years. I'm at the point now where I can literally see, read, and even drive without my glasses-though my driver's license says otherwise.. But really , it has gotten much better on its own. Just more distortion now because of astigmatism. So I usually come for an eye exam every 3 years or so, which I feel is adequate, and the Doc agreed. Dr. Kevin did mention that it is important to get these regular exams especially for the glaucoma test. This condition can cause blindness! That would really suck. Serious in a different way as a heart attack. Good to know obviously. It was a very quick appointment overall, and was in and out from my first visit in less than 30 minutes feeling good with a new prescription to fill! 100% recommend! read more

Went in complaining of sudden vision impairment. Could see everything up close but vision beyond 6ft was blurred. Had 20/20 vision just 3 days prior to the appointment. Asked the doctor about possibility of diabetes due to a google search that pointed out nearsightedness as a side effect of diabetes. Doctor denied, said it's not possible as I have no history of diabetes, and proceeded to explain that vision impairment is caused by long term uncontrolled sugar levels. I left with a prescription for glasses (which I did not fill) Two weeks later I ended up in the ICU in diabetic ketoacidosis. Newly diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic. The nearsightedness WAS my first sign of diabetes. The sudden high blood sugar causes the eye lens to swell. For an optometrist to not know that vision impairment could be related to type 1 diabetes and AT LEAST suggest getting my blood sugar taken was highly dangerous and quite frankly negligent. And to boot, when I called the office weeks later to update the doctor of my situation, and simply inform the doctor of his mistake to help him provide potentially life saving information, the receptionist simply took my message and no follow up was given. Not an apology from the doctor. Nothing. Highly unprofessional. read more

Avoid at all costs. I asked the doctor to write the same contact lens prescription I've been using, but instead he wrote a prescription for a brand sold through a company he appears affiliated with. When I asked for my previous prescription, the office refused to provide it. The lenses he prescribed are several times more expensive than the ones I've been wearing. I've never experienced this type of behavior from an optometrist before. Patients should be able to receive the prescription they request without being pushed toward significantly more expensive options. read more

I have enjoyed my last two visits with Dr. Hoang. Previously, I had been to a different optometrist and had a terrible experience so I was reluctant to go again. Fortuantely, Dr. Hoang turned around my bad experience with eye doctors - he is kind, friendly, and explains things clearly, never rushing you should you have additional questions! It's also a very clean office and an efficient practice - I was in-and-out in less than a half hour. That said, if I needed more time, I'm confident that Dr. Hoang would not have rushed me. While it seems unique to be inside of a Walmart (plenty of parking!), I'd recommend giving him a visit. Happened to be in my local Walmart and seen that Dr.Hoang was available. First, I will say how professional Dr.Hoang was during my visit, he was very helpful right from the moment I set foot into the office. After about 15minutes of filling out necessary health questionaire and other information, I was led to the testing room before the exam room. Equipment was clean and new and Dr.Hoang explained the whole process of what each machine does, so there was never a question in my mind "what is this for"? After a few tests, I sat in the exam room, where my vision acuity test was given, you know read the smallest letters on the wall test. After this brief test, Doctor did ask me about my health, during a closer exam of both eyes with a light and magnifying type of monical, he did alert me about something serious. But here is where most would panic. He took the time to explain what he seen, pulled the information up on his ipad and proceeded to tell me where I was in relation to what was discovered during this exam. He pulled up worse case scenario and where my newly discovered concern is today. He was professional by all means and showed empathy which you dont see a lot these days. I know what i need to do to correct my issue. I would give 10 stars just for taking the time to explain exactly whats happening inside my eyeballs! I highly recommend Dr.KevinHoang and his practice. I was directed to him because I called Walmart for an eye exam. I was pleasantly surprised to know that the Dr office is in Walmart right next to the Vision center. Made an appointment online, which was a breeze, and when I arrived at his office, you would never know you were inside a Walmart. I've been coming to see the Doc for years, and would recommend him to anyone. I've gotten glasses, contacts, and now I'm dealing with vision changes due to medical treatments. We discussed my options to temporarily fix my eyesight, and decided on disposable contacts. After my treatments are done, it will take a little while to return my eyes to their normal state. Then he's going to do another exam, and I'm going to order new glasses. Don't let the fact that his office is in Wal-Mart fool you. This is a serious optometry office, even though it's small. Because he doesn't sell glasses or contacts himself, you don't have to worry about him talking you into something you don't need. I have ordered glasses from the Wal-Mart selection before. I will probably look at ordering online, however, because their top-quality lenses have gone up to $180. Yes, Zeiss are great quality, but I bet I can get similar for less. read more
