In this and all my previous visits, I receive excellent medical care and optical service. Dr. Van Hoose listens carefully and explains all procedures and results. He's great. All the office staff (in person and on the phone) are always extremely kind, patient and happy to assist. The optician that generally assists me is Ursula and she as well listens, answers my questions in a clear manner, and is personable and friendly. All around, I have always had a very good experience with them and I have nothing but good things to say about Van Hoose Optometry read more

Dr. Catl Boeck is such a good doctor! My whole family was treated by him recently and we were all impressed by his treatment, and the kind and professional staff. Dr. Boeck takes his time, is very kind, but most importantly he is smart and thorough. I am so grateful that he caught an unexpected disorder in my daughter's eyes. For years our family doctor attributed her red eyes to swimming or allergies, but it turns out she has a serious ocular problem. I can't imagine what would have happened had we not been lucky enough to see Dr. Boeck. Thank you!!! read more

This was the BEST experience I've ever had at an optometrist! Everyone was so friendly and good at their jobs. I feel like I'd like to go there just to hang out. Dr. Mark was very professional and knowledgeable. I've finally found my permanent optometrist. read more

I've been a patient/client of the staff at Ackroyd & Van Hoose Optometry for several years and have neglected to provide feedback on my experiences with them. Although my primary experiences have been with Dr. Archie Ackroyd (recently retired), I have more recently met and interacted with Dr. Marc Van Hoose. He provided me with a thorough clinical assessment and recommendation of my future needs. He, like his (previous) partner, Archie Ackroyd, is a superior clinician and took a careful history before making any judgements re my condition and recommendations. I've also regularly had the pleasure of seeing an optician, Ursula, who has helped me on a number of occasions. Ursula has been very friendly, helpful, and always with a wonderful sense of humor. She has always made sure to be thorough in her assessment of my needs and is careful not to overlook anything that might be helpful in my selection of eyeglasses. (Her coworker, Kristen, has been similarly helpful when I've interacted with her.) To summarize, all the staff here with whom I've interacted have been excellent in the manner in which they've attempted to help me. I strongly recommend Van Hoose Optometry for all your optical needs. read more

This was my second appointment with them since the environment is appeasing and convenient. The place is convenient off I-805 and Clairemont and plenty of parking. Dr Boeck and the staff are very friendly ur professional. Corryanne is very knowledgeable and helpful when I was undecided on a style. She promptly selected a few frames for me to select. They have the latest high-end technology and they are knowledgeable with the equipment. The place is small but not overcrowded I will always return as they make you feel welcome read more

Dr. Marc Van Hoose has restored my faith in the medical field. He is a competent and very caring Dr who listens and actually hears his patients. This is very difficult to come by and he and all his staff should be applauded for this. I'm very happy I found Dr Marc and hope to continue to work with him and get my sight back on track. Thank you to all the staff. A happy experience! Thank you! Barbara Clark read more

I woke up one morning with a bloodshot red eye.No pain, no itching or anything oozing but I was unsure if it was an emergency or if I should just call my eye doctor and see if I needed to go to an urgent care. I was informed that my insurance did cover an essential care visit and I was able to come in right away. As a special-needs parent, I greatly appreciated the convenience and not having to sit in an urgent care or ER for hours. I've been here at this office for a few years now and every visit is wonderful. The Doctors show genuine care as well as staff which makes the experience great every time. I love it here! read more

I've been waring glasses for more than 30 years now and checked my eyes with many doctors. Dr. Carl Boeck is by far the best eye doctor I've ever seen in my life!! He took his time to properly examine me and explained to me in details all the steps. I was beyond impressed with his professionalism. I truly missed genuine people properly doing their job like Dr. Boeck. Thank you Dr. Boeck!! read more

I've been coming here for a couple years now and I've got to say I am highly disappointed with the service that I received today. First off; usually there are beautiful young women working in the office in the various positions; however; now it appears that no one under 50 is even allowed to apply for a position at this establishment any longer...? Which is fine because I'm not here to judge anyone by their age; but as I walked into the office today to have my glasses adjusted like I have in the past, I was immediately met by an older woman of Indian decent and told to have a seat and that they would be with me in a minute. I then proceeded to sit down and wait patiently but could not help but notice that this woman who asked me to wait was not busy helping anyone. In fact, I actually observed her on the computer shopping for things on Amazon? (I wasn't aware that optometrist office employees were expected to do this for their daily tasks), then as another woman walked in about 15 minutes later and when she was asked the reason for her visit today she replied that she was here to have her glasses adjusted just as I had stated. But she was immediately greeted and asked to come to the back where she was shown prompt service. I made a brief comment out loud stating that I guess I'm not really here and my needs as a customer are not important to which I was still ignored. Then I walked out and not even 30 seconds later the woman who was helped instead of myself came out behind me with her glasses adjusted and able to go back about her day. I am highly disappointed with the services here and seeing as how it was time for my annual eye exam to be scheduled; I've decided to start looking for a new optometrist because I don't deserve to be treated this way after 2 years of being a returning customer. The only way I would consider coming back here is if you fired the woman who rudely asked me to sit down and wait upon entering the office because she was too busy profiling me for whatever reason she decided maybe it was my skin color who knows. -sincerely, Disgruntled ex customer. read more

Paid the fees with my insurance card + out of pocket costs. I have been fortunate enough to have been a client of Dr. Archie Ackroyd for several years. He is superlative among medical clinicians I've encountered. He is highly knowledgeable in his field and he carefully answers all questions, being careful to ascertain that his answers are being understood. I've also found him to be a very compassionate individual who is capable of a great deal of empathy with his client. He also takes as much time as is needed before ending one's appointment. The opticians with whom he works are similarly helpful and knowledgeable re a client's needs. One in particular with whom I've interacted on a number of occasions is Ursula. She is professional, friendly, and extremely helpful. I strongly recommend Ackroyd & Van Hoose Optometry to anyone in need of a professional and helpful group of optometric clinicians. read more

This is the first time I order glasses first time they made glasses that were no useful for reading or anything- I was able to see exactly the same with or without them- second round they didn't explain what transition glasses are or that are extremely necessary in order to be able to wear your glasses normally and not only when you are sitting or have to read something really close- ofcourse they made mine with no transition adjustments and to correct that, I would have to pay for another pair of glasses - terrible experience- now I am stucked with a pair of glasses that give me blurry vision and headaches after and during each use read more

Fantastic staff and doctors. Dr. Boeck was not only knowledgeable but also clearly very passionate about his field. It's refreshing to see people who actually love their work and to not feel rushed out of the office or constantly being sold something. I am terribly nearsighted. This office, originally with Dr Ackroyd and now with Dr Van Hoose, has been dealing with me for more than thirty years. It's an excellent practice. Very capable and well organized. They have helped me with some difficult insurance issues, which is much appreciated given how expensive even simple meds have become. read more

The Navy sent me here for a routine eye exam and I was very happy with the experience. It was much closer to my apartment than Marine Corps Air Station Miramar which is where I completed my last exam a few years ago. It also felt much more thorough since it seemed like this office had a lot of the latest and greatest equipment. They even offered to do some kind of imaging of the back of my eyeball for $39 but it wasn't covered by TRICARE. If I go back, I'll definitely opt for it and pay the added fee since I'll be a little bit older and macular degeneration runs in my family. Overall, the office was very relaxing and the optometrist and his assistant were both very friendly. The office sent all of the forms in advance so I could fill them out ahead of time and that seemed to speed things up quite a bit on the day of my appointment. Once I retire and have more of a choice in where I go for care, I'll definitely try to come back here again. read more

I have been to various optometrists since I started wearing glasses/contacts over 12 years ago. Some of them were awful, some of them were okay, and some of them were what I thought to be good. Ackroyd & Van Hoose have set the bar, and they set the bar high. I never knew that eye care could reach this caliber, but they definitely demonstrated how it should be. Honestly, ever aspect of this optometry office is phenomenal. All the staff members were exceptionally knowledgeable. I loved how the doctor immediately strict up conversations--he clearly wanted to know more about me than just what he read on paper. When it can to the exam, he throughly explained the process, my change in prescription, and next steps for follow up appointments. The front dest staff were AMAZING! They made the entire experience memorable. They helped me find the best pair of frames--not just ones that looked nice, but ones that flattered my face shape, nose size, and had the best overall fit (so that they wouldn't fall off or be too heavy). When it came to payments, they were super knowledgeable about my insurance coverage. They even worked with me to get the best deal when my Isaura de wouldn't cover my anti glare coating (if you've ever worn glasses with anti glare, you know it's virtually impossible to go back to traditional lenses). Best part is, they made the entire process fun. They were (and are--still waiting to go back and pick up my glasses) and still are incredibly delightful human beings. Both the doctor and all other staff apologized numerous time for the wait time in seeing me (in my entire visit, I don't think I waited more than 5 minutes). It comes to show how much they care about their patients. As long as I'm living in San Diego, I'll be going to Ackroyd & Van Hoose Optometry! read more

I was very pleased with my recent visit to Ackroyd. I especially appreciate the quality of service that the staff provided. James was very helpful in explaining all my insurance options and the ladies at the front area were also very helpful. I have trusted my vision health to Dr Boeck for a number of years now. He has never disappointed. He has always been thorough in his examinations and while my primary residence is in New York City I always return yearly to Dr Boeck due to his professionalism and strong chemistry with me, which I feel is very important in a doctor/patient relationship. read more

I've been coming here. The eye doctors themselves are great. The staff at the front desk is getting ruder by the visit and actually thinking about changing offices. I've also gotten a pair of sunglasses here before and they gave me an actual case. I ordered glasses 3 weeks ago. I went to pick them up and they don't even have decency to give me a case that the glasses actually go into to. They gave me this thing that goes over the lenses and covers them. Probably cost them .25 and they have the decency to call this a case. I also tried to explain the difference between the allowance insurance and the glasses was $25 and they still wouldn't give me the actual case. read more

I'm a new patient of this optometric service. I just wanted to say that I love the way I am treated their. They listen and respond ever so politely to you. I also feel that they try to accommodate in every way. I work on internet software, so I stress my eyes all the time, and I can be a bit long winded and picky, when it come to picking my glass frames. I really like this group, so thank you all so very much for the welcome. JRW read more

On September 26, 2022 I came in to get my eye glasses repaired. The nose piece on my progressives was broken. I've been a patient at this optometry establishment for three years. The reason that I chose this place was because the staff makes you feel like you're at home. Everybody is extremely inviting and welcoming, and very professional. I've seen two of the three doctors in this practice and they're both amazing. Kristen, the office manager , is always on top of everything and does a great job of managing the business. They also have a text line to connect with staff when you need to book an appt, ask a question or need a reminder to pickup your items.
