Great experience with Mad River today! My family (wife and 3 daughters ages 13, 11, 8) did the 8 mile Snake River. It was exciting, fun and the guides are smart and well trained. I've been white water rafting about 10 times across the country and these guys have it down. Organized, friendly, helpful, and they know the river so you have a thrill without worrying that your family is in danger. Get the wet suit unless you are fond of 43 degree water. read more

We had a great time! Ryan was our guide and he was a lot of fun. I went with my mother and her friend (who were both nervous about white water rafting, but thoroughly enjoyed themselves). I was a little disappointed in the lack of action on the snake river, but that would have been the case with any company as they all go the same route. We did the first trip out (8am) and it was COLD in the shaded areas. It wasn't too bad when the sun was directly on us (we went mid-july). Chapter I: Anticipation 8AM, Sunday, July 15th, 2018. It was a crisp, picturesque morning at Snake River. My pals and I were so excited for our boat trip - just us friends, rolling down the water on a fine summer morning, and for $50/person (the price that they quoted us), what more could you want?! I am ready and able to give this place five stars. Chapter II: Disappointment Upon check in, we were told that we were being charged $59...okay, you know what, $9 is not so bad, I have a stable income, and some change under my mattress, but that is a 20% upcharge. Out of curiosity, my friend asked why they wanted our lunch money. They told us that it was a mistake on their part, and it's not that much money, so we should just pay the extra $9 a pop (which would be an extra $100 dollars or so going straight to "The Man"). Given our current political environment, this didn't sit well with me. My friend pushed back a little on paying the extra buckaroos, and that's when things got personal. The employee at the desk then said to us, "I don't know if you've ever worked a customer service job, but this is how things work. If you take your car to get fixed, and they quote you a price, and it turns out to be a different price, you just pay the extra amount" LOL bruh...what sort of auto shop do you go to and what pyramid scheme are they running? Can I get in on that?? Lmk. Anyway, to make things worse, she then told us that she didn't even have to let us on the boat tour, and that we could write a bad Yelp review, go ahead! Well you know what Tess, your prayers have been answered. Chapter III: Redemptiom Emotions are running high. The bus for our tour is about to leave. I take a few deep breaths because my doctor says this type of thing is bad for my blood pressure. What should we do? My heart says stay and pay the tea tax, but my mind says no, that's not what this great nation was built on. Suddenly, I feel a cool breeze brush by, and with that, a change of heart from the Mad River team. Tess finally apologizes, and allows us to pay the original price offered. Justice has been served. +1 star for this small act of valor. Chapter IV: Inner Peace Off to a shaky start, but we are ready to roll. We spot a bald eagle on the bus ride over - a beacon of hope. Upon arrival, we are greeted by a large, rugged man/God named Boone, who looks like a cross between Kal Drago and Thor. He tells us everything we'll need to know about the ride, helps us fasten our life vests, saves a cat from a tree, and defeats Loki. +2 stars because our guide is awesome. Thor takes us on a phenomenal journey down the river - the sights, the smells, the wildlife...I can almost hear Pocahontas' "Colors of the Wind" chiming softly in the background. I want to live in this moment forever. As I look around at my smiling comrades on the raft, the words of my guru, Thich Nhat Hanh, come to mind: "There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way". We took the 8AM trip with Ryan on July 23. He was a great guide. We had a wonderful experience on the river . We were looking forward to the photos taken of us going through the rapids. Snake River Photo is the company they use to take the pictures. The photos are very expensive and the quality is not good. I would recommend Mad River Rafting but I not Snake River Photo. read more

Today we want river rafting for my last day here in Jackson and I didn't really expect much beside getting a free rafting trip. The place is close to Smith supermarket and all of the staff were pretty friendly. I took the 10am trip and their bus came and pick us up and it was a pretty nice bus too. It took like 40min to get to the snake river and it wasn't that crowed because it was the start of the day for them. We had 14 people on the raft and 8 people had to paddle. At first I didn't feel like paddling so i didn't volunteer myself and all of the people there grab the paddle and there were 1 extra one and and another old man was about to get it so i let him and all the people were staring at me so i took the paddle from him instead. lol Anyway they choose me and another guy to lead the raft in the front and everyone in the front got the most wet plus felt like a wet dog after a few runs. I actually almost fall out twice because i was wearing slipper and i couldnt get my feet into the raft but lucky i made it thru. Everyone on the raft were so nice and easy going and i meet some great older people w/tons of stories and just love getting to know where you are from and everything in between. I had a great time and I have to admit it, i would come back again. read more

From the walk into their clean and professional building our family was excited and at ease. We did wear wet suits for the 8:30 trip and we were happy we had them. They were worth it. Everyone that worked their was upbeat and happy, kind and helpful. Our bus driver was cheery and friendly. Though we sat in the back of the bus we could hear snipits of his stories and pointing out interesting areas as we drove past. Wooly our guide was super! Again gave interesting facts and fun stories as we went down the river. We had no trouble at all. i was nervous about the trip but was at ease once we got thru the first big rapid knowing that our guide could get us thru anything. We all followed his directions and had an amazing time. Only negative was it had to end. :) read more

This place was exactly what was advertised and what I was expecting. My group had an excellent guide who put up with our shenanigans and even contributed to our humor by throwing out a joke at the end of the trip. We asked him to take us through the roughest rapids he could and he did. The food they serve you about 3/4 through the ride was tops, the peach cobbler was exceptionally tasty. $80 for 3 hours and a solid lunch is well worth the price the only issue we encountered was that there are two locations which they neglected to tell us about. We stopped at the first one, apparently just an office, which caused us to almost miss our trip. They are super strict on timing and will leave you if you're late. read more

I recently went on an awesome small boat dinner trip. Think we hit every wave. Took a shore break and had a delicious elk brat dinner complete with side dishes and desert. One of the kids on our boat was cold & the guide hooked him up with some warm dry clothes at break. Overall tons of fun and wish I could do it again! read more

We had a party of four on this trip and ALL four of us feel the same. Our first experience walking into the office was not good. The girls at the front desk were very unfriendly, gave us not explanation on the river trip. It was a what do you want basis.. As if we were bothering them. We LOVED our guide Ryan!! Had a really enjoyable trip all around except for the cold wet ride back. I like that they gave us splash jackets to wear but I wish they weren't already soaking wet when we first got them. The business location in Jackson is really nice and has everything you need for your rafting trip, they sell snacks, t-shirts, rent towels and wetsuits. There are restrooms and changing rooms for when you get back from your trip! There is a shuttle that takes you from the building to the river and I was surprised at how long the ride was, it took us at least 30 min! And the ride was a little bumpy. Also after your done rafting you have to walk about a quarter mile to where the shuttle picks you up and then it's another 30 min ride back! Our actual time on the river was so fun, a few spots are a little scary in a good way, but not big enough that I actual thought I would fall out of the boat. Do be prepared to get very wet!! It's definitely a pricey endeavor, I'm not sure how other companies pricing compares. read more

The rafting was fun and the guide was great, however, I felt like it was a rafting assembly line. I felt pretty rushed and that was annoying. Since they do like 10 rafting trips a day, it makes it feel like you're pushed along, because they have to be there for the next trip. Me and my family (daughter 7 and son 14) went on an 8-man raft with Mad River. Mark was our guide. At first I was a bit nervous about my daughter's safety, but it was absolutely fine. Mark made me feel comfortable and made sure she still had fun (despite her overprotective mother). The reservation staff helped us pick the right trip for us, and we had a good time on both bus rides as well. The bus driver patiently answered about a hundred questions from one curious little boy on the bus - I was impressed. Our family of five (kids 12, 9, & 5) loved our dinner cruise with neighborly Nate as our guide and jovial James our van driver. The kids loved "riding the bull" on the front of the raft during milder rapids and doing the "wheel of misfortune" in the flats, standing on the raft's front while we spun it in circles til they fell in the warm August 62 degree water. Amazing ! We booked the night before and everything was emailed to us and was very easy. We checked in and that took less than 5 minutes. The buses were on time and the driver was friendly. We went on August 5th with Mollie. This was our first time white water rafting and Mollie taught us so much. She was very informative about the trip and things around us. We had 4 kids and 3 adults on our raft (not our kids) and it was amazing ! If you go on this trip (especially with kids), ask for Mollie. I know my kids would have loved her ! I love Mad River! My family has a home in Jackson and we're regular visitors to the area. I've tried several other local rafting companies (Sands, Barker-Ewing, Lewis & Clark, etc), and while they are all good I always find myself going back to Mad River. Their whitewater trips are always safe and fun, and booking them is a breeze. I've done 5 whitewater trips with them in the last 4 years (guides were Nate, Adam, and William), and loved every single one of them. Their dinner trips are my favorite and every time I take a newbie rafting I book it for them and they love it. Their guides and office staff are wonderful. My only suggestion would be for them to get some shirts with their mascot Betty on them! read more

We went as a family (7 of us + one stranger) and we had a BLAST! We did the small boat tour that lasted 3 hours. It is important to know that the 3 hours includes the bus ride - so you are actually on the water for only 1.5 hours or so. The water was really cold, but the rapids were the perfect intensity for us for a more "chill" ride. Our raft guide, Stackhouse, was fantastic and made sure we had a blast. Spent two weeks on a road trip from Seattle with two 12 year olds. Visited the Sawtooths in Idaho, Grand Teton NP, and Yellowstone NP. The raft trip on the Snake with Mad River was singled out as the highlight of the entire trip by my wife and daughter. Hard to argue. Despite the late season of our trip (late August) the river still had plenty to offer. Lots of rapids, a black bear cub, deer, eagle, osprey, and a marmot. We had a great time! read more

Very friendly staff. Guide was professional and made me feel safe (coming from someone who was incredibly anxious to even go on the trip). We had lots of fun; rapids were exciting; never felt in danger. Saw some wildlife on the whitewater trip, which is always cool. Although it was very cold outside, they had plenty of gear to keep us warm and mostly dry. Surprisingly, many of us were sweating by the end. Rafted today with this group, fantastic time! James was the guide on our raft, and a total of 4 rafts were in our group. The 4pm trip included a dinner halfway through by chef Jimmy. What a great time, got totally wet, my husband fell off the raft at California Curves (but we recovered him quickly), dinner was great and met some great people. So on June 10th 2013, my girlfriend surprised me with a river rafting trip while going on a trip to yellowstone national park. The experience of being in rapids were amazing. Our tour guide was awesome. Mr. Stackhouse. The food that they served was, in my opinion outstanding. Coming from California, I wanted to take a memory with me back home. Unfortunately, their camera person had trouble with her camera and the picture that was "taken" of our group did not make it.
