Omgosh is there a 10 star option on Yelp?! Because if so, Barker-Ewing is worthy! I don't even know where to begin with this review because it was the most fantastic experience--my written words will not do it justice (but my pics may help). We actually didn't even plan to go to Grand Teton on our vacation. We only planned to do Yellowstone and Glacier. But when my uncle saw that we were here, he started texting us all about GTNP and the scenic float ride they took. He hyped it up so much, that we turned our second day in Yellowstone into a Grand Teton Day! I called Barker Ewing the day before and they luckily had availability (just an FYI that we went in August during the pandemic, so I doubt they'd be able to squeeze us in if it were a normal year). They emailed me very detailed instructions on where to go, where to park, etc. We ended up finding the location with no issues! Soon after, our River Guide, Peter, showed up to take us on this magical journey! Luckily for us, it was just our party of three and one party of two (due to COVID restrictions). Peter told us normally they pack the boats with 12 or so people. So we were incredibly spoiled. We each got one side of the raft to ourselves- which was awesome! We were able to sit on the edge for an adventurous feeling; or we could sit down and sprawl out for a more relaxed vibe. The entire raft ride took about 2.5 hours. It was a scenic raft ride and not a white water raft ride, so it was all so peaceful. It's a ten mile ride up the Snake River. Peter did all of the rowing as he guided us through. We have never met anyone as knowledgeable and inspirational as Peter! He absolutely loves the outdoors. Said he knew since he was 8 or 9 that he wanted to move to Grand Teton and become a River Guide. Talk about following your dreams! He lives on the property in a tepee (so cool!). And he's seen all wildlife imaginable (except for a wolverine, but he can still tell you all about them!). I've never met someone so incredibly passionate about what they do. I work in HR so when I see a human being so perfectly matched to their profession, I get almost giddy about it. Never was there a better river guide than Peter! I loved so much how he was answering all of our questions with zeal. You can tell he lives for this! He is one of those rare people who make you stop and think "Am I living life to the fullest?" Needless to say, I am still trying to find my "inner Peter." My sister, brother-in-law and I talked about him for the rest of the trip! We did end up seeing some bald eagles during our ride which was really cool! Peter knew all about them of course, and even had a name for one of the younger ones ("Junior"). We were hoping to see Moose (it's called Moose, WY after all!) but didn't get a sighting. The views are absolutely stunning with the Tetons in the background. The water flowing right underneath and all around you makes for such a serene experience. There was a time where I was so at peace, that I almost dozed off. But I told myself "I cannot fall asleep when these are my views!" This has to be the closest I've ever felt to have a heavenly peace. All told, we all agreed that this was our favorite thing on our trip. For me, it is a highlight of all vacations I've ever taken! I cannot say enough good things about this experience and if you are in Grand Teton, you HAVE to make this a priority! I'm so glad my uncle hyped it up to us. He didn't oversell it at all-- if anything, it was better than we imagined! Thank you, Peter, for this unforgettable and inspiring experience! We hope to be back to see you again one day! read more

The guide was very nice, however when we booked, and when we called the day before to confirm, they did not tell us that the river was extremely low and extremely slow and we were going on this boat trip to see animals and that this time of the year we were not going to see any animals and we did not then when I called to complain and asked for a refund, they were not very nice. We did the 8am float on June 27th, 2022. IT WAS FANTASTIC. Jed was our tour guide and was wonderful about answering all our dumb tourist questions (where's the best place to see moose, beaver, bear, etc.). He was very knowledgeable about not just the river and wildlife, but the entire Grand Tetons area. Gave us a few 'off the beaten' areas to check out and they didn't disappoint. Also knew a lot about hiking trails, which was super helpful. Amazing views of the Tetons and we saw 3 bald eagles and their nests, a river otter, an American White Pelican or 2. It's VERY relaxing, not rapid at all, super safe. I regretted not bringing my 'real' camera/lenses because I worried they would get wet (they would not have). They divide you into 2 groups of four, which was perfect because we were a party of 4. The 2 hours flew by and we wish it was longer. read more

This was the highlight of our trip. Our raft guide was named Eric and he was incredibly friendly, totally mellow, completely knowledgeable about everything we ever wanted to know about the adventure, and had a keen eye for spotting wild life. The staff that greeted us at the pick up spot also were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We loved it. These guys are the best. We took the scenic float trip today. It was great! We parked next to the visitor center. There was a large group of people there. They assigned us to a van and guide. They transported us by van to the boat ramp. It was well organized. I have bad knees and I was a little apprehensive about this trip. No problem! Loading the boat was easy and exiting was not a problem either. We had 7 people on our raft, not including the guide. It was nice not to be crowded and we were able to move around to take pictures. The views on this trip were breathtaking! Absolutely stunning. We saw several bald eagles and a moose with her calf. We were assigned to a guide named Hank. Hank was great! He was very knowledgeable on Teton National Park and wildlife. I would have never seen the bald eagles if he hadn't pointed them out. His knowledge made the trip very interesting. He made the trip! We took the Snake River afternoon float-boat trip on Friday, September 2, 2022. Our trip was fabulous. We saw great scenery and wildlife (black bear, baby and mother moose, river otters, and eagles. Our guide, Mike Inman, was excellent. He was a very skilled navigator, and provided a tremendous source of knowledge of the Snake River, Grand Teton and Yellowstone habitat. We had a truly amazing family adventure with Kyle our guide and driver for the Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, Old Faithful, and Wildlife Day tour for 12 hours. Kyle is a guru of the history and science of the this National Park and wildlife. This was a majestic, surreal and lots of things learned and experienced day. From Bison to Moose in the Morning to the many witty and fun jokes shared from the entire van. Kyle is very smart and knows a lot about the area and animals that made it fun and safe. We all had a great picnic by the river and everyone connected well in this group. From California to Washington everyone loved this experience. Most importantly Travis was super knowledgeable about the wild life around and had a freaking good eye. My favorite animals that we saw were the moose. Tips: Make reservations in advance for two reasons: - To reserve a spot during busy times of the year - Save some $ by purchasing online tickets in advance (They have $5 off for booking online) They have float trips running throughout the day; I recommend doing the float trip early in the morning or late in the afternoon to increase your chances of viewing wildlife. On a nippy Saturday morning, we grabbed breakfast and drove to the float trip parking lot in Moose. Within a few minutes, our guides arrived in bottle green vans with the rafts on the trailer. Once you confirm your presence with the guide, you sign a waiver form and get seated inside the van. The guide drives you 10 miles north until you reach Dead Man's Lift, from where you board the raft. Though the morning started out chilly, the day became warmer as time progressed. The sky was clear with no sight of any clouds. The sun pierced on the glaciers on top of the Grand Teton mountain range, making the mountain range look glossy. The Snake River flowed smoothly pretty much through our entire trip, except for a few minor rough patches here and there. Our guide was very knowledgeable kept us entertained throughout the trip by narrating all kinds of stories about the mountains, the rivers, wildlife and his adventures. Keep your eyes peeled out for any wild animals along the river or on the banks or for birds perched on the tall trees around. During our trip, we spotted bald eagles perched all the way up the tallest trees, guarding their territory, a shy moose that hid behind the bushes and refused to come out, a pronghorn and its baby walking along the shallow river bed, osprey and Canadian geese. The tour is 2 hours on the river; and I think it was the right amount of time. We just hoped to see bears and other animals, but it is what it is! An excellent scenic float on Snake River. The float isn't the most exciting thing in the world but it takes you through scenic parts of the Snake River with the Grand Teton as the background. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and has a great sense of humor. It was a cloudy day and rained for a few minutes but our guide came prepared and provided us the ponchos. Not much wildlife could be seen that day but I've heard it's possible to spot bears along the way. My only minor complaint about the float was the amount of time it took. 2 hours on the river + time to get there was entirely too long for me. My fiance, her parents and myself booked a 10 mile Barker-Ewing float trip down the Snake River a couple of Monday's ago. What an awesome trip it was! During the whole trip you had stunning views of both the Tetons and the river. We also ended up seeing 11 bald eagles during our float including one diving into the water for a fish right in front of our raft. Our guide Neel was excellent. He was both very nice and extremely knowledgeable of the area having been running rafts down the Snake for many years. Scenic float trip was super fun: educational, beautiful, safe, and our guide was awesome (Jim). For Covid we wore masks inside the van that picked us up and carried us to our launch site, and the boat was limited to two "groups" (me and my niece, and a family of four) who sat on opposite sides of the long boat, with our one guide in the middle using the oars to keep us in the safest, mildest part of the water. Not a drop of water on any of us. We forgot to bring water and it was HOT, our only problem. Bathrooms at pickup site were primitive but serviceable. Guide manuevered our boat into position to take photos for each group with the Grand Tetons in the background. We got to see: 2 adult bald eagles AND their baby in the nest! and a pair of beavers, one in and one just out of the water. I don't like to be outside much less in nature and I absolutely enjoyed this trip. read more

Beautiful day on the Snake River with guide Jed. We did the 8am float with perfect weather. Saw a moose, 13 eagles (!), white tail deer, white pacific pelicans, and fish in the very clear river. Jed was very knowledgeable about the valley and Grand Teton Park, and just local things in general. Gave good advice on other things to see (Slide Lake was a beautiful area - thx!). We took this float trip and were bowled over! Arvin was our guide. His knowledge of the history of the area, flora, and wildlife was incredible. If you get the chance to go down the river with Arvin, you won't be disappointed. He's incredibly friendly, too. Mike was our guide and he was very knowledgeable about geology, the plants, river, and animals on the river. He was very skilled and we felt very relaxed on our trip even though the Snake River was over 14000 cfs, nearly flood stage, and moving very quickly! My husband and I took my parents (aged 76 and 66), both of which had very little experience on rafts in general. They loved it! We saw a moose, geese, osprey, and eagles' nests. Mom booked this trip because she wanted to see more wildlife and the Grand Tetons. We got a little bit more of an adventure. We took the 4pm tour and Arvin, a little dry at first, was a nice guide. He told us the first half of the trip would be peaceful and serene, which it was. We all loved the picturesque views of the Grand Tetons. We saw bald eagles and a large elk. We started getting cold approaching the second half of the trip. Arvin gave us some blankets. We saw that the clouds were getting darker in the direction we were going and it started to rain and eventually hail. Arvin gave us ponchos to stay as dry as we could. The water became more powerful and Arvin navigated through waterways that he told us changed just a couple of hours before. Overall we had serenity and a bit of adventure for our family ranging from teens to seniors. Write down their directions to get to their meeting place. I had to call a couple times because I didn't and we found ourselves in the wrong location. Hide your valuables or bring a small waterproof bag to take with you on the raft. You don't want to leave them in the car. Make sure to cover up your head and lather on the sunscreen. Everyone that I spoke with and encountered was friendly and informative. Just like my disappointment looking for bison, wolves and bears by land, I saw next to nothing floating. Everyone was great, and disappointed as I was to see only a beaver and an osprey. Last year Wyoming shot their wolves, soon as they legally could. This year they shoot their Grizzlies at $6000 each. Why is Wyoming killing off its tourism? I am calling Gov Mead and Senators Enzi and Barrasso. I hear Idahos Sawtooths and Montana Prairie preserve still have animals for photos read more

Did a 6:30am float trip down the snake in Grand Teton National Park on August 20, 2017. Saw the Tetons from an incredible perspective. Spotted elk, moose, bald eagles, heron, and a handful of other wildlife. Surprisingly, the animals and scenery were secondary to the amazing man who was our guide. We had Michael Inman and he was phenomenal. I've seriously never had a better guide in my life. He knew EVERYTHING. He's a floating encyclopedia. I cannot recommend him enough. I'm sure the other guides are just as amazing, but I only toured with him so he is all I can speak to. Go. Float. It is worth the price and more. read more

Highly recommend Barker-Ewing float trips for a serene and unique view of the Grand Tetons and wildlife from the Snake River! Booking (both on-line and over the phone) was very easy and flexible too. Our two families initially booked on different days, and it did not take any time at all for staff to revise the date and time so that both our families could be on the same raft. As for the trip itself, I understand it is somewhat a matter of luck but we were able to see more than 10 beavers, a bald eagle family, and a moose! Try to book the later evening tours if possible to get a fantastic view of the sun setting over the Tetons, and more wildlife coming out to feed as weather cools off (it cools off fast - bring a jacket!). Our guide, Jed, was patient, polite, answered all of our questions no matter how silly from the children, and very knowledgeable about local history as well as ecology and wildlife. We'll be coming back to Barker-Ewing when we return to the park! Thank you! read more
