My first time here was last week when I met up with 3 buddies for food and conversation. One of the guys had been here before and recommended the spot so we also let him order the food for us. We shared 2 orders of Parmesan fries and 2 orders of 20-piece wings (1/2 Soy Garlic and 1/2 Spicy Garlic). The fries were delicious and the spicy mayo is a perfect condiment for them. The order is generously sized and 2 was more than adequate for our crew. The "problem" is that you can just keep on eating them so beware of your consumption of these lest you fill up and don't leave room for the rest of your order. During our visit, the fries came out ahead of the wings. Next time, I may request they come out with the rest of the order. The wings were of good size, piping hot, and super crispy. Both flavors were delicious. If you haven't had Koren Fried Chicken before, you should know that they are not drowned in sauce. I am a fan of saucy wings but didn't find the lack of sauce to be a problem because the flavors were on point. We didn't order anything else but I'm definitely looking forward to going back and trying out other items...even though I thoroughly enjoyed the items we chose. Our server was pleasant and attentive and the venue had ample seating when we arrived at 7:30PM in the middle of the week. The interior is not super brightly lit (nor was it too dim) but the seating is ample for a prime location on Northern. Beware that most of the street parking out front on Northern Blvd. is 1-hour metered so be prepared to step out to feed the meter mid-meal or patiently hunt for parking on the side streets. Although, I did find the spice was not consistent. I found some pieces to be spicier than others. They also have two flavors: regular soy and spicy soy. If you do a yelp check in, you get a lychee soju shot, which goes down really easily. Between truffle fries and kimchi fries, I would definitely choose kimchi fries. I think the truffle flavor was not that strong and it just tasted like regular fries, whereas the kimchi fries had a bolder taste. Mad for Chicken has been around for a while and I decided to give a review for their outstanding consistency in food and customer service. We came here over the weekend during the Giants and Redskins game. We had a pretty arduous weekend and needed to pig out without any qualms. My fiance ordered the mac and cheese and I ordered truffle fries and the large ten piece boneless soy garlic chicken. We haven't been here in a while and the soy garlic was delicious, just like I remember. We also had some mango soju...a perfect complement to all the fat oils we were downing. I'd say this place is where its at! They have two chicken flavors for their combination of wings: soy garlic and spicy soy garlic. Now, the wings look harmless but that spice is something! I enjoyed the wings mostly because of their texture. It doesn't seem to be deep fried or baked. They use some sort of special and flavorful batter on the chicken, whatever it is its delectable. I often pick up from here but my family has also dined in as well. The service is good although the wings do take some time so be patient, it's worth the wait! It's like having a reunion of sorts, pretty chill. The Food. As the name implies, no order's complete without a platter of Korean fried chicken. Those Soy Garlic wings did not disappoint with that perfect double fried crunch. Our order of Spicy wings were not as killer spicy as I've experienced at some other locations. These were spiced perfectly allowing you to eat several, rather than leaving your mouth in pain. Parmesan fries. Oh man, were these addictive and fried perfect, crisp and tender. If you don't know how to make a good skinny parmesan french fry ask MFC, they know how to do these right! Kimchi Croquettes were a thoughtful concept of rice with diced kimchi served on top of a marinara type sauce. Fried Calamari, delicate with a light crunch, but hardly any seasoning. Alcoholic Beverages? I didn't need any. Room was needed for all the food that was ordered, which ultimately led me to being food drunk...giddy and full with all of that Korean fried goodness. Why not five stars? The wait time for your order of chicken can be lengthy, 30 minutes. Prior to my visit I looked up info about MFC and Pete Wells gave a good description of this place "Mad for Chicken is the liveliest, a self-described "Korean gastro pub" with hockey and football on TV, American rock and pop on the speakers, macrobrews on tap and a menu that is what TGI Friday's would serve if it were taken over by a 25-year-old Korean hipster.". I laughed to myself when I experienced MFC for myself last night because that assessment was fairly accurate. The menu is fairly extensive as well, but you really are here for one thing - THE CHICKEN! I prefer, and thankfully so did my Yelping table mates, the wing section over the drumsticks. If you are a wing fan, when you order you may want to specify you want the two bone section of the wing further from the chicken and not the smaller, drumstick like section closer to the body of the chicken. Mainly we ordered the soy garlic ones and they were fantastic - crispy, juicy and addictive. Our group was initially hesitant to go with spicy garlic wings, but on our second round we got a half and half order. I am glad we did. They have the right amount of heat. For me I would probably start off with spicy wings then temper them with the soy garlic - letting the spicy burn carry over to flavor the subsequent wings. Then finally quiet it all down with the included pickled daikon. The Parmesan fries made for a great accompaniment for the wings. We tried the kimchi croquettes and the fried calamari. The croquettes are similar to Italian arancini (rice balls) and I really didn't get why kimchi was added to this - it didn't really stand out, but they are well made and tasty. I would pass on the calamari in the future as well - it is perfectly fried, but the pieces are a little too large and chewy. They added slices of red pepper which were a nice touch. Great for groups with plenty of large tables. PRO TIP for groups: Order your wings 20 at a time, once the first bunch of wings arrives order the next one that way you always have nice, hot,and crispy fresh wings and none are sitting for too long. They have expanded over the years but depending on when you come (weekends are busier), you may still find that you will have to wait. The chicken is some of the best Korean chicken I have ever had. Super crunchy and flavorful. Beware of the spicy ones - they are quite spicy. I can tolerate spice but they were too much for me (but also addicting). Their drinks are overpriced but a lot of people come for the beer during games (also beware of, lots of people come during bball games or any big playoff season finales). Firstly, I like to say I've been a loyal customer for many years. I noticed the few times the quality of the food hasn't been good. Korean fried chicken is the best kind of fried chicken! Make sure to stop here if you're hanging around Northern Blvd and are craving deep fried food. Since we came here with a party of 16, I'd say our experience may have been similar, but also a little unique to others. Food was great, vibe was old-school, and staff was attentive and slightly flustered, which was understandable because of the size. The only really negative thing I could say would be the wait for the fried chicken itself. Surprisingly, at a place that specializes in chicken, that's the one thing that takes the longest to make... While our fries and entrees came on time, the chicken (which we were anticipating most) took about 45-60mins to arrive at our table. But the taste and the freshness of the chicken definitely made up for it, and could be seen as we chowed down on the hot, juicy, crispy yet tender meat. Yum! Despite the wait, I gave 5 stars because overall, our group had an enjoyable time and ate good food. The servers did their best to accommodate our orders, and took the time to replenish the complimentary curry popcorn (which was weirdly good) and our water. Also, because when they brought out our friend's birthday cake, they dimmed the lights even more than what it already was and switched the old-school songs to a cute rendition of the birthday song. Also, remember to check in on yelp and get a free shot of lychee soju (tastes a little like Yakult with a little hint of soju), and they do check your IDs. For takeout, we've tried the soy garlic and spicy chicken drumsticks and they were crowd pleasers. My cousin and I always go through the same process whenever we go to Mad for Chicken- we're craving wings and flashback to how good the wings are from here, decide to go, immediately regret coming because of how long we have to wait for the food, then stuff ourselves and forget about how long we had to wait. I tried it and fell in luvvvvvv Double fried delish , strong soy garlic flavor, not too greasy, and comes with pickled radish! I order take out but I do enjoy eating there even though they have annoying large TVs, you can sit near the window with a cute brick wall. The servers are always nice and checking in on us.
