I came to Mad Dog Cycles because they are the closes shop to me that work on electric scooters. First off, all the staff was great, customer service was great and the technicians were great. That being said, I came in to get my back tire replaced. I had the replacement tire, and they put it on without issue only charging me for the labor. I came back to get it that same day (which was amazing) while picking it up I asked if they could pump up the tires. The staff did so without complain, but while inflating the tires noticed that the front tire wouldn't hold air (this was a new problem) and neither would the back tire. They replaced the back tire tube free of charge, and I bought an additional tube for the front. While walking back I casually asked if this would be covered under the original labor price? He replied "no" that I would be required to pay a new labor fee if I wanted them to work on the front tire. I don't blame the staff for this poor experience I blame the owners that made this policy and enforced it to the point that the staff didn't feel like they had any leeway whatsoever. if I was asking them to do significantly more labor, I would have gladly paid the additional price. My great experience was completely soured by the end. I will not be returning to this shop regardless of how good the staff is with owners that enforce such anti-consumer policies. read more

I've had issues with my rear brake and they have always taken care of me. The latest issue was handled by Mason, and he's amazing! I happen to live in Arizona state now. These guys are and have been very responsive and helpful on warranty issues even though the live out of state! (Mason) Customer service has died these days and these guys still have it! Practice it! I'm from out of town, I was in the market for an entry level road bike just to keep at my sister's house so I wouldn't have to pack my bike on a plane every time I came to visit. I knew what I wanted, so I looked online at Trek's website. In the local area, there was one in stock at a store called Mad Dog cycles. I called them up and asked if it was really in stock, they said yes, but to buy it quickly as they tend to sell out. Trek offers this service called Locally, that allows you to buy the bike from that specific store on the website, I asked person on the phone if this was fine, and they said yes. Ok, about an hour later we went to pick up the bike. I knew I needed a bunch of accessories. With every other bike shop i've ever been to, they offer some sort of perk for buying accessories when you buy a bike, it's normally 15% off accessories purchased with the bike. This has been the norm for basically every bike shop in California. Not Mad Dog, the person at the counter (the receipt says "Keith"), he said "We used to do that, but now we offer only $20 towards accessories with the purchase of a new bike". Off I went to get my accessories. When I came back he told me since I bought using the official online service, they wouldn't honor it, and I should have paid in the store. What crap customer service experience. It just left a nasty taste in my mouth. I spent over $1500, and the least they could have done is gave me the normal discount they give literally everybody else. This behavior is not what I would expect from a shop interested in building a loyal customer base. But, it gets worse. I wanted a specific patch kit for my bike bag, the Park GP-2. These are pre-glued patches, that are very handy on fixing a tube on the road. They didn't sell this product, but had something else from some third party brand i've never heard of. I specifically asked if these were pre glued patches, the salesman said "Yes". Sadly, I simply also forgot to pick up a spare tube. Fast forward to 30 min in my first ride when I got a flat in the middle of nowhere. I confidently pulled out my patch kit only to find that these were not pre glued patches at all. I was stuck and had to call a family member to bail me out. Overall, if you were to go here to pick up something, I would definitely look around and only buy here if it's your last resort. There is not real benefit from at this store. They don't make bikes here, they assemble them. From my experience their behavior shows aren't really interested in creating customer relationships. 3 stars for the extremely average customer service, and -1 for the patch. It's just BS. Since there is an apparent "Bike Boom" due to the pandemic it is nearly impossible to find the bike my wife wanted for her birthday (The Electra Townie 7D EQ). I had began my search in early October and was told at several bike shops in Orange County and LA County that they were solid out and didn't know when more would arrive or that they were back order until May of 2021. Well that doesn't work my wife's bday was on Oct. 20. I spent weeks calling shops and checking inventory with the same response, back ordered or sold out. I expanded my search and came across Mad Dog Cycles in Utah. I hit the jackpot! They could tell me the inventory they had, when it was coming from the manufacturer and I could preorder it and they would ship it to me here in CA!! Well, we still had to wait a couple of months for the bike (Ordered Oct. Received end of Dec.). They have excellent customer service. I would get text updates about my order and they answers any questions I had. I was hesitant to order a bike from an out of state shop that I'd never see or heard of before, but the Mad Dog experience I had totally makes me want to buy my bike from them when I decide to upgrade. We were super impressed within the customer service. When we received the bike the rear fender had a HUGE dent in it. Ugh we waited so long and now problem! Well, I called Mad Dog and it was no problem. They filed a claim for me. I received the new fenders in less than a week and the payment to cover the cost of installing them at whatever local bike shop I preferred. Super impressed! Highly recommend! read more

I have bought a couple of bikes online however, going through these guys is not worth it. Their online service was spotty at best. The bike i had to order through them was from Surly bikes, and apparently surly had to ship it to them first for a safety, part check...(whole other story). I purchased the Big Fat Dummy cargo bike at a hefty sum, the bike was sent to me missing brackets for my cargo rails (making the bike useless) furthermore, the front fork steering tube sits 2 inches above my headset. NO disc brakes assembled or attached to frame, now i have to find a bike shop to put this all together and most shops around me are looking at 5-7 weeks out. Some great safety, part check!!! I've been taking my road bike here the past couple years for tuneups. They are always so friendly and have som much information to share about biking. They are very informative and give me options on what's available and recommendations to help me get the most out of my bike and how to ride it! This trip was due to broken chain and they explained that my chain was fine for awhile longer, there was no up selling on services or parts. I was also concerned about my tires and they told me the bad was starting to go bad because it was starting to get the square shape, but again thought I could ride for a little longer before looking at replacing the tubes. Even added in options on sizing to think about when I'm getting ready to purchase new tires. read more

I've been to the Mad Dog Cycles in Provo for maintenance, but have only been to this location for the retail. I expect their repair service to be just as good as it is in Provo, but I was not impressed with what they had in stock. They didn't have much in the way of women's jerseys and shorts. They did have a couple of LG and Pearl Izumi options but not much, and mostly everything was in sizes that wouldn't fit most of us. I also went in looking for a water bottle set-up for my aerobars, but they only had one option, and it happens to be quite unpopular with the triathlon community. I've had their service department install a new drop bar and bar tape on my last bike and they did an awesome job. I purchased a Thule Chariout Cheetah 2 from them last week online. They were having a 20% off sale and we completed the checkout with no problems. We were sent a receipt with our price. After four days, I received an email stating that they were out of stock from Kent. I knew something seemed fishy here, as they did not list out of stock online. I waited three days and the price magically went up to be in line with all of their competitors. My wife called the following day and talked Kent on the phone and asked what was going on. This time his story changed to he could not ship it because "it would be too expensive." Long of the short of it is; they sold it for under cost online and would not honor the purchase. Lying seemed to be the only way out. Because of this; i'll leave them the appropriate feedback. We were lied to, we were intentionally misguided, and we will not do business with them again. Just took the money and didn't do nothing. Today after trying to find out for last 3 days what has happened they texted me that actually they don't have it anymore. He was awesome making sure I got a bike that was in my price range, fit me right and was what I wanted. Since the bike I wanted needed to be ordered, he took time to show me different color options available, and didn't just order whatever. It was a busy Saturday morning, however, the staff took time to help the customers, and answer questions, and not rush everyone through. Multiple times I have gone there with a flat tire or other minor problem, and they slipped me into their busy schedule, getting me back on my ride within 30 minutes. They also have done an excellent job on bigger tune-ups, with prompt turn-around times and quality work. When I got to the register they said "'not sure who you talked to, but they are $3 each. I needed two. Not the biggest deal to spend $4 more, but it just makes you feel had. Just honor what you say. Poor experience overall. First I bought my bike last year and when I picked it up they just brought it out and said here ya go. I have bought bikes in the past and they usually do some sort of walk through and set up the bike for your height and weight but this was not offered. After having 2 foot surgeries in 12 months I hardly was able to use the bike but when I finally did the rear hub was making a grinding noise so I took it to them to assess what was wrong. I was told 2 days later to come pick it up because they worked on it and it was "better". That should have been my first clue it was not fixed. My wife picked up the bike and when I looked at it the next day I could still hear the grinding. I took it back and wasted my time because their hours have changed due to COVID19 but the website and the automated recording when you call does not let you know they are closed on Mondays. By the way they are not taking phone calls during COVID so i couldn't call to verify hours. Tuesday I took it in and they explained I was 1 month out of warranty. This should have been brought to my attention originally so I didn't waste all this time. I was willing to by a new hub. i just wanted the bike fixed. They agreed to see if Trek would warranty the hub which they did. Thank you Trek! Needless to say the communication from Mad Dog was non-existent unless I reached out. Then I got the excuse their messages to me must not have gone through. I got the bike back finally after they had to order the part twice because the first one was the wrong part and I found a 1" scratch on the frame that was not there when I dropped it off. I was told it would be hard to determine where the scratch came from and that damages typically happen during transport. Putting it back on me. Their solution was to ask what I want them to do so they could send it to the owner and see what he'd be willing do. Well I think it is obvious I want the scratch fixed on my bike! Needless to say I'm never going back or recommending Mad Dog. read more

I bought a marlin bike from those guys because the Trek store from American Fork said they are the only one that has the size I want. So I went and bought one. They have several bikes in that model and size in stock. When i tested riding it, the front gear kept dropping while the rear gear is at the highest. I went back and asked them to adjust it. They came back and said that's how it works. Then I called Trek and Trek said to go back readjust or replace it. After an intense argument with mid-age white guy, probably store manager, they agreed to replace it. In the afternoon, when I came back to pick it up, I realized they gave me a bike with a new frame (new serial no.) but the gears and wheels were from the old bike. Well, I thought as long as it is not dropping gears, I am Ok with it. The story didnt end with here. Two days later, I was biking with kids on a paved trail in provo canyon. Windy, I only squeezed the front break, the front wheel was bent. I took the bike back to the store in the morning, I was told warranty is not gonna cover it and I need a truing and asked me to pick it up in the afternoon. I was there at 4, nothing has been done to the bike. So I took the bike to both AL Sport and hangar bike in Provo. Both of them think the front wheel is bent and the insurance will cover it. Hangar bike ended up submitting the warranty claim for me because AL's sport asked me to wait till next day when a guy doing this comes to work. Hangar15 bike got it replaced under warranty. we bought three different Trek bikes from AL sport, hangar, and Mad Dog. Mad Dog is the worst. I will never go or suggest any of those I know of to go there ever again. If there is a negative rating like -10, those guys will get it. I will definitely recommend to go to AL sport or Hangar bike for purchase even when you have to wait; most of time, they are out of stock. Image a store has many bikes in stock that other bikes dont have. how horrible this store is, because people are not buying from those guys. Dont trust those 5 start google reviews here. read more

I am new to cycling and sick of dealing with the problems that excist with cheap bikes. I went to Mad Dog and was impressed with their knowledge and willingness to educate me. Some pressure to purchase something more then what I was looking for but not as bad as a car salesman. The problems came after I paid for a bike they had to order in because I didn't like the color of the one they had in the store. When the bike I ordered arrived at the store they called me and told me it was in but they couldn't let me have it because of a recall on the front fork. They told me it should only take a week or two before I could pick it up. A little bit about me. I live in Wyoming and it is about an hour and a half drive for me to get to Orem. My wife and kids live in Orem so I am come here as often as work allows. Nobody at the store ever contacted me after the initial phone call informing me of the complications with recieving the parts to repair the bike. But I would call the store every time I came to town and get the same line "our supplier hasn't shipped the parts yet but we will call you when they come in." After a month of this I walked into the store asked what was going on with the bike and let them know I was upset. They told me the bike would be ready in about a week or two. I asked for my money back. They returned my money and offered nothing to keep my business. I am now shopping for a bike again. read more
