I bought my first "real" mountain bike from Mad Dog a few years ago and thought the service was awesome, however, with more experience, I have discovered how they compare to other shops. I have been in the shop numerous times looking for gear... jerseys, shorts, chamois, gloves, helmets, tires, etc... and they never have anything in stock. The clothing they do stock is in odd sizes. They offer to order stuff in for you, but if I'm going to be doing that, I may as well just shop online from retailers with much better prices. I've never felt like their service was exceptionally personal and the experience you get really depends on who you talk to. I've talked to some people who are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, while others (including the owner) have a total bike shop attitude where it seems like they'd rather be doing anything than helping you (this is based on numerous experiences, not a reaction to one bad experience). Their service department is severely lacking. I took a bike in for a basic brake bleed during the off-season and was told it would be three days to get it back, plus the price for the bleed was higher than I've found elsewhere. When I got my bike back, there was no pressure in the line at all (bad bleed, allowed too much air to get in). If anyone had test ridden the bike, this would have been obvious. Another three days later and I picked it up again after the second bleed. While there was some pressure in the line, the levers were still extremely squishy, so I gave up and took it somewhere else. I had issues with gearing after tune-ups as well (losing my chain while switching gears, ghost shifting, etc...). I know they do a TON of work on bikes, but it would be nice to have things done right the first time. read more

I highly recommend Mad Dog Cycles! My husband wanted me to start riding bikes with him and one of Mad Dog's Sales Associates recommend a hybrid, I believe it was called a Trek FX, for my first bike. I fell in love with cycling because of that bike and recently upgraded to a woman's specific road bike called the Lexa SLX. I, of course, went back to Mad Dog Cycles and was not disappointed. The service was great and they really made me feel comfortable. I had a lot of questions and the person helping me took the time to answer all of the. I don't know much about fixing bikes so I also bought the Red Shield warranty and tune up package and now parts and labor is cover for 5 years! A few months ago I cracked my Trek Madone on the drive-side chainstay. I took my bike into Mad Dog Cycles in Orem and they did a great job taking care of me. They gave me a few different options on what I could do and I decided to have my frame repaired by Calfee. Mad Dog Cycles helped me boxed up my bike and send the frame to Calfee. They communicated with me throughout the entire process so I always knew what was going on. As soon as my bike arrived at the shop they called me. Having very little knowledge but some extra cash in the bank I walked into mad dogs, told them what I was looking for, and walked out with a brand new bike. Although I'm recovering from a toboggan accident injury, I thought the time was right to return to biking--one of my favorite sports ever. The good news: I found my dream bicycle at Mad Dog Cycles, and store associate Noel couldn't have been more accommodating yesterday as I selected my bike color and new helmet. Noel entertained my sister as I took a test drive around the area, and in every way she represented the store superbly well. The bad news: I learned shortly after purchase that my back isn't quite ready to let me ride again--almost put me in tears. But more good news: Despite the disappointment, I was relieved that Mad Dog Cycles allowed me to return my purchase today without a fuss. Associate Evan expedited the return and wished me a speedy recovery as I left the store. Paul, another associate, had kindly assisted me earlier on the phone. Seems like a lot of detail to share here, but these folks deserve a callout for their exceptional service after what turned out to be a hassle and frustration for us all. Love these guys. I am absolutely particular when it comes to my bike and they handle my ocd quite well. A little pricey but worth it. I just wanna know how I can get on like a loyal customer discount or something because I spend a lot there and plan to spend much more! I hate to write this review with a low rating, but I've had so much trouble with Mad Dog over the last couple of weeks that I feel it necessary to let others know. First, the good - The staff at Mad Dog has been very, very friendly and nice. They have seemed to try to help to the best of their abilities. I've even dealt with the owner in trying to get my troubles resolved. Kudos to them for trying, and for being friendly. Many bike shops seem to have an attitude, and if your not in the "Pro cycling crowd", they treat you poorly. Not so with Mad Dog, they make the pros and amateurs both feel welcome. The Bad - Despite the friendly atmosphere and staff, they can't seem to get any mechanical issues on my bike resolved. The technicians just seem incompetent. They try, but it never seems to be done right. I purchased my bike new this summer, and have had it back in the shop at Mad Dog about 6 times now, trying to get a couple of "simple" issues resolved. I've given them the benefit of the doubt, and tried over and over with them. Again, they seem to care, and seem that they are trying, but they just can't get it right. And to top it off, the most recent trip in with the bike ended up with a warped rotor on my back wheel! (Looks like they had trouble removing a screw on the rotor, the rotor is all scratched up and looks like crap around one of the screw holes, which also happens to be the side of the rotor that is now bent and warped...) So, after all of this, I've had enough. Their tech department just can't cut the mustard, and as such, I'm moving on to another bike shop. Be warned, if you have mechanical issues on your bike, you may want to consider other shops for the repairs. read more

I have been bringing my bikes to Mad Dog for the past 8 years for repairs. Usually they do a great job and the cost is right. This past week I took my bike in for slow leaking tubes that had been replaced last year by Mad Dog and filled with slime. I was told that my bike had been poorly taken care of last time, and the guy blamed the store I bought the bike from even though the tires were last fixed by Mad Dog. It was cheaper to get my car serviced by $15 compared to getting two flat tires fixed at Mad Dog. Plus it took two hours to get the bike fixed. I always loved the way I had been treated in the past there, I am sad over this last service and extremely disappointed over the cost. read more

Utah Bicycling Club comes to their store monthly to ride from there and the manager was friendly to us. We will be inviting our club to come so they can see what promotions they have on bicycles and become familiar with the location, to encourage more people to ride bikes in Utah County. Hopefully this will bring them more business. They allowed us to hang up our flyer to help us bring people back to rides there and let us put it on the counter in a good location. One day they did a quick fix on my break for free! They also helped me put on a rack for free I bought there and gave us a discount! Sometimes they leave our flyer up for a couple months at a time saving us money from having to print new ones. Thank you for helping us make bicycling more safe and popular in Utah County! read more

I am happy to say that once I had expressed my disappointment, Mad Dog Cycles made it right. They were able to obtain and sell me this year's model of that trainer for the sale price I had originally paid. My wife and I just purchased two Trek electric bikes. We had waited very long time and did years of research and test drives in order to decide on product choice. So impressed with the service at Mad Dog. My son is an adult with high functioning autism. His primary transportation is his bike. His tire blew out the other day so we took it in for what we thought would be lengthy repairs. After telling the service techs his situation, we were fully prepared to be without his bike for a week. My favorite bike shop! We bought two Trek Trikesters for our kids when they were little, and were delighted with the quality. The service at Mad Dog was excellent, so whenever we've been ready to buy new bikes as the kids have grown, we've gone back. I bought a road bike a couple years ago, and they made sure I got the right size, as well as a great price. Their fit service was thorough. The salespeople and technicians are always helpful with all my cycling questions and bicycle needs. They've even told me to wait to buy new tires, chains, etc. (that I thought needed replacing) when they could see I could safely get more use out of them. They have great gear and cycling attire, and can order in anything they don't have in stock. We've bought 9 bikes there and have always been satisfied with their products and service! read more

Don't waste your money or time at Mad Dogs in Orem. I took my bike there for a tuneup and when I brought it home there was a loud noise when I ride it. I had them install thorn guard in the tires, but the first time out I got a flat. Turns out it was the guard that caused the tear in the tube. I also told them put in new tubes, one with a metal valve stem (smaller) but instead they drilled the rims out on the bike to fit a larger size valve stem. Unbelievable!!! My bike also came back with a tear in the seat. I will NEVER go back there! read more

Perhaps the best customer service experience I had through the entire holiday season! I was ordering online and basically had no clue what I was ordering. I was contacted by Randy after I had placed my order who clarified several elements of the order, which actually reduced my total order! We exchanged emails several times and I felt that he was more interested in getting me the right product than making a huge sale - what a refreshing change from most retailers! The Big Drift arrived as promised and it was the hit of Christmas morning. I have already recommended Mad Dog to friends and will continue to do so. Don't go to Mad Dog's in Orem. They're terrible. They supposedly put thorn-proof linings in my tires, but that helped for only 2 hours before my tire went flat again. They drilled holes in my rims and ripped a hole in my seat. It was the worst customer service I've ever had. I'll never go back. Taylor's Bike Shop is the place to go! Today I was visiting your Orem store looking at various items along with a specific product in mind. I was looking for a set of eye-ware trying to find some that were in my price range. After I had not found any that would fit into my budget, I continued to look around the store at various items of interest making mental notes of what I would like to purchase in the future. While shopping around I noticed that one of your employees was going through the eye-ware and thought nothing more than that they were restocking that particular group of items. Continuing my browsing of the store I was getting toward the entrance and exit area looking at the bottle holders. While doing that I noticed one of your employees standing there keeping an eye on me. As I turned towards the door he asked me if he could see my glasses. He then stated that they were missing a pair. I complied with him and the desire to look at my glasses which are a Harley Davidson branded product with special lenses which were several times the amount of money your featured eye-ware would have cost. I then proceeded to show him my wallet and iPhone as well as showing him all of my other pockets which were empty and then patted my self down and offered him to check further my person if he would like. Let me say that he was very nice to me and I am sure he was only doing as directed by a manager or some other store personal. After that I continued to look at a few other items then left the store. This is not the first time I have shopped there as I find that you have a large inventory of items and I have a special interest in an indoor trainer and touring gear, but after this experience I feel that shopping there is not something I will do in the future. I am a Disabled Veteran and live on a small budget, but that in no way hampers or impairs my ability to be an honest and trustworthy person, and as this experience was quite traumatizing to me, I feel the need to share this experience with you. read more
