The first thing I did when I got my new road bike was to visit Jeff Sherrod for a retul bike fit. I can't recommend this service enough to anyone who's serious about putting extended time in on the bike. Not only am I as comfortable as I've ever been, I also got faster for free just due to my new more efficient position on the bike. He also took some extra time to give me some free coaching on some bike handling stuff and pointed out that my shoes weren't ideal for my feet. Once again a few months later when it was time to invest in some better shoes, Jeff took the time on the phone to give me advice on getting the best fit possible and then dialed in my cleat installation. My shoes now feel like magical slippers and my feet have never felt better. I regularly do 5-7 hour rides on the bike and how my feet are feeling no longer enter the equation at all. Be warned: it's about to get nerdy up in here. I'm talking spandex-level nerdiness. Bike fits. The art (and science) of making sure that your bike is set up perfectly for your body type and needs. If you're riding around on a cruiser, or maybe get only an hour or two per year of bike riding in, you probably don't need a professional bike fit. However, if you spend enough time on your bike that you experience a sore rear end, back, or knees, are looking to do your first 25 or 50 miler, or are training for LOTOJA, you need to look into getting your bike professionally fit. And Jeff at Precision Bike Fit is your man. Jeff has been doing this for years, and is a genius when it comes to fits. He uses just the right blend of art and science to make sure you feel right on your bike. Art: he can simply watch you pedal and know immediately what changes need to be made. Science: he uses the most up-to-date fit computer (the Re-tul system) to measure everything from femur length, hip movement, and shoulder reach. Today was my first time seeing Jeff at Precision and he knocked it out of the park. I love to ride and race, but I know so little about body dynamics relative to a proper fitting, as well as any bike mechanics. I found Jeff a few years ago after someone had suggested that the reason I had numbness in various places, and my knees and back hurt after riding all the time was the way my bike fit. After the first fit and the difference it made for me, I've since gotten fit on my mountain bike and a newer road bike. I came across Jeff from a simple internet search on "bike fitting in Utah". Based on reviews, I decided to try it. In one word, excellent. After numerous measurements and watching me ride on his computerized system he made some major changes to my saddle and minor changes to my handlebars and cleats. He also gave me a number of stretches to work on for my hips. I have done 3 rides since my fit and my bike feels better each time I go out. Saddle still feels different but it is much more comfortable than my previous set up.
