The lady that helped me fully dedicated over 20 minutes to walking around the shop helping me make a list of all the equipment, clothing, tools, and supplies I'll need for my newly purchased road bike. She also spoke with me at length about cleaning and riding techniques, as well as tips and tricks from her own cycling experience. She was also able to recommend a third party to properly fit my bike to me, which she uses herself. I didn't look around at the new bikes too much, but I did notice they had a selection of mountain bikes, e-bikes, and road bikes. They've got tools, bags, shoes, cleaners and lubricants, CO2 tire inflators, tubes, and everything else you'd ever need. They were out of a few clothing items due to shortages from high demand during COVID, but they were still able to provide recommendations about what to look for. That undivided attention was so valuable and helpful - I couldn't have asked for anything more than the experience I had here. This isn't the closest bike shop to me, but it is 100% worth the drive. AND I'd like to mention they are open an hour later than most other bike shops, which is so appreciated and convenient when I rushing to get some shopping done after my work day. They made a fresh cut on the bottom to help with water uptake and loaded the tree into the car for us. Years ago we also bought a stand from them; instead of the usual pins, it has a single post in the middle of the well. Since their trees have holes drilled in the bottom, you just place the tree onto the post and you're done! It's so much easier than trying to twist the pins to hold the tree in place. Highly recommend the stand. They're also offering a special coupon for $20 off at Root'd across the street with a tree purchase!

I would suggest coming in the evening to get some fabulous pictures of the awesome sunsets. Trail is wide enough to social distance and everyone I passed followed this requirement. Trail has some beautiful panoramic views of the city. I didn't see any snakes today, but was told they are in the area just keep an eye out.

With trailers for beginners and…read moreintermediate mountain bikers, there are short scenic biking trails to get bikers used to navigating downhill terrain. Each trail is about a 1/4 mile long, so you can go round and around until you feel comfortable moving on to a different level. The main trail is open to hikers, but the other trails are downhill for bikers only, so you shouldn't have any problems running into anyone. The scenery is beautiful, and you're riding mostly in the trees on the mountain, so it's a cool ride. This was my second time ever mountain biking, but I had so much fun!

Since learning about it, I've already been twice and it's just a really nice walk, especially coming from a bigger city like San Antonio. There are several options of trails you can walk, but none of them are too difficult. For both of my visits, I began at the Wrangler Trailhead, which is next to a 24-Hour Fitness. There is a small parking lot with a restroom at the trailhead, although if parking is crowded you could just use the huge lot in front of the gym. One trail option takes you down into the gulch, which has more rocks, dirt, and a steady - albeit very small - stream. It offers much more shade thanks to all the trees, so won't need as much sunblock. The second option I used later was the Northern Trail, which was out in the open (BRING YOUR SUNSCREEN AND HAT!) and had a trail of mulch. It was well kept, so there's plenty of space for you to walk and not get pummeled over by trail bicyclists. (SIDENOTE: Oh, by the way... If you're a trail rider and need to pass someone, if the walker moves over for you, don't be prick - thank the person as you pass. It's some basic courtesy that has really been lost on too many cyclists, who act as if they own the trail. End rant.) The first time I walked, I ended up doing about 3.5 miles, going through the gulch, then back up towards the Northern Trail. The second visit, I remained on the Northern Trail and turned around about 2/3 of the way to the Dimple Dell Trailhead; that was about 3.25 miles. Next time, I'll do the full walk along the the Northern Trail to Dimple Dell Trailhead, which should make it about a 5-mile walk.

I had the pleasure of meeting several lovely four legged hikers and their people, as well as two horses and a set of miniature ponies. Yup, all in one evening hike. It was magical. The trail is relatively flat with a few hills sprinkled throughout, but nothing outrageous or difficult. Much of the trail is covered in bark-in some areas it's fairly deep-which mimics walking in sand on the beach. A bit more strenuous than a flat dirt surface. At the beginning of the trail you'll find plenty of parking and a sitting area. I don't believe I did the full trail; only a couple miles of it. But what I did see was very nice. What a trip. I was…read morethoroughly impressed with our Desolation Canyon trip with Holiday River Expeditions. Going into it, I had very few expectations--I had never done anything like this before--and, if anything, I probably had more concerns than expectations. By the end of six days on the river, most of those concerns had become some of my favorite parts of the experience. First and foremost, our guides, Tristan and Annie, and the group we traveled with made the trip. Tristen and Annie were incredibly well prepared, knowledgeable, friendly, and just genuinely enjoyable people to spend six days with. Early on, they asked us to embrace and respect the river, and in return they showed us just how much the canyon had to offer. There was a great balance of adventure, history, knowledge, humor, and simply slowing down enough to appreciate where we were. I was concerned about being completely disconnected--there was no cell signal for the entire trip--but I quickly came to embrace it. Cutting the cord completely changed the rhythm of my day. No emails, no calls, no notifications. Just the river, the canyon and the people around you. I was concerned about sleeping on the ground. It never exactly became comfortable, but I got used to it enough that I spent several nights sleeping outside under the stars instead of in my tent. Speaking of the stars, I honestly didn't know that many existed. Maybe sleeping on the ground wasn't the reason I had trouble falling asleep--I may have spent too much time staring at the sky. I was concerned about the "Bano." Turns out I've never gone to the bathroom in more beautiful or serene surroundings. And, after all, everybody does it. I was concerned about the food. I shouldn't have been. It was fantastic, and I was continually impressed by what the guides were able to prepare for us in the middle of nowhere. I also spent several days paddling a ducky, which added another level of adventure and was an absolute blast. By the end, six days somehow didn't feel very long. You settle into the rhythm of the river, stop worrying about what time it is, get comfortable being a little dirty, and start appreciating how simple your world has become. What a trip. I would absolutely do it again. And as I've discovered since getting home, nobody warns you how hard it is to spend six days on the river and then go back to sitting behind a desk.
