They made a fresh cut on the bottom to help with water uptake and loaded the tree into the car for us. Years ago we also bought a stand from them; instead of the usual pins, it has a single post in the middle of the well. Since their trees have holes drilled in the bottom, you just place the tree onto the post and you're done! It's so much easier than trying to twist the pins to hold the tree in place. The lady that helped me fully dedicated over 20 minutes to walking around the shop helping me make a list of all the equipment, clothing, tools, and supplies I'll need for my newly purchased road bike. She also spoke with me at length about cleaning and riding techniques, as well as tips and tricks from her own cycling experience. She was also able to recommend a third party to properly fit my bike to me, which she uses herself. I didn't look around at the new bikes too much, but I did notice they had a selection of mountain bikes, e-bikes, and road bikes. They've got tools, bags, shoes, cleaners and lubricants, CO2 tire inflators, tubes, and everything else you'd ever need. They were out of a few clothing items due to shortages from high demand during COVID, but they were still able to provide recommendations about what to look for. That undivided attention was so valuable and helpful - I couldn't have asked for anything more than the experience I had here. This isn't the closest bike shop to me, but it is 100% worth the drive. AND I'd like to mention they are open an hour later than most other bike shops, which is so appreciated and convenient when I rushing to get some shopping done after my work day. After going to a corporate e-bike store and a specialty E-bike store, I was directed to Guthrie Bicycle Shop on 2100 St. I walked into a modern, well-decorated shop on the 26th of December and was promptly greeted by Preston Jacobsen. He looked at the pictures on my phone and went on a hunt for a part he thought would fit (an older, out-of-production brake lever clamp). In the 15 minutes it took him to look in about ~20 parts drawers, he showed me around the workshop until we had a eureka moment at the bottom of one of the last drawers we checked. He had two, and gave me one, refused to take any money for it, and thanked me for sharing the story of my bike shop experiences back east and their long history in SLC. Only later, when I asked for a card, did I note that he was the owner. That type of service to a guy who will most likely not buy a bike from him (I live in Hawaii) is what makes independent bicycle shops like this a true gem in a world of chains and corporate clones.
