This place has an old charm, certain parts of the building has it's original old architecture you can appreciate. If you walk around, you can see old original display pieces from Pasadena way back in the days, almost like a museum pieces. The employees are positive, friendly and offer excellent customer service. I had a return, Heidi the manager was so kind, made the return hassle free and easy for me. read more

I bought a very nice set of pearl earrings for mom on her birthday which she did NOT like. So I had to take them back for exchange. The lady that helped me was extremely rude and helpless. She was bothered at the fact the we were exchanging them for a new pair although she knew the earrings had never been worn nor taken out of the box.! We ended up getting our money back and going to a different Macys! read more

I love how this Macy's is kind of hidden so it doesn't get too packed like the others. They seem more organized here however I rarely find any good deals here. Everything's so expensive. Maybe because its Pasadena. They have more evening gown selections at this location. Its located in the lower level 3rd floor. read more

Ordered something online I usually pick up in dtla Macy's however today it was convenient to come to this location. Waited in line at online order pick up, once I was FINALLY attended she directed me to fine jewelry, with a receipt. Had to wait another 10 mins just to be acknowledged. Waiting in fine jewelry I just felt as if they didn't want to help me. I order online to not deal with this kind of service. I spent almost 30 mins here to pick up an online order. read more

I was disgusting about what they call this guy a manager he's super rude and yelling at me loudly in front of the employees and the customers .. just because I trying to tell him the price on the item is 59 and it written under it take extra 50 percent he arguing about the price he said 39 and because I ask him what the 50% of 59 he said 30 then I told so give it to me with that price but he said no the computer said it 39 and he shout calm down .. that's happened today at around 6 o'clock at women's shoes department.. this guy is unprofessional he has a nasty look wearing colorful kids shirt and bad attitude.. I wonder how Macy's hires unprofessional employees like this guy ..I love Macy's and I have been customer almost 30 years.. so pls hire good people.. not like this jerk... read more

This store is one of the nicer Macy's still around since it is one of the only freestanding ones around. Parking is conveniently adjacent to the store and is readily accessible. The only real complaint about this store is that the prices are marked up pretty high for what they are worth. I just went Christmas shopping for some friends but noticed that they just put a higher sticker price on all their merchandise. You can tell they mark it up significantly because they have sales on it all the time and have coupons for an additional 10%-20% off. Let's take for instance a gift set from Starbucks. What would normally be at Starbucks for $20 costs $40 at Macy's. I don't think this is very honest of Macy's. BTW, make sure you have a coupon before coming here. There is always one online or in the newspaper. read more

I rode the gold line from downtown L.A. to the Del Mar station in Pasadena then rode my bike a quick distance to Lake Av for the special appearance by Chef Rick Bayless. What a fun trip and a great day!! He made food! Can you say Bacon Tomato Guacamole!?!? wow! a nice change from the norm! And "Achiote" grilled shrimp, a Mexican spice/paste that I can't wait to try on my own! And he made and agua fresca with pineapple, cucumber and parsley! So refreshing and delicioso! The store is a total throw back, it even still has a studio photography department! And check out my pictures of the encapsulated Childrens Barber Shop! sooo cute!!! Looks like a time capsule museum! There are historic and classy touches all over the store including an original sign in the elevator that says, "Automatic Elevator, push floor for service". Like it was such a new novelty! Anyway, if your in the area, check out this cool Macy's, even the customers are classic! P.S. the store manager, is "new here" and was so nice and helpful during the event. The entire store staff was really friendly and helpful. I even did some shopping, other than the book!! read more

This review is not about the service at this store, but rather the location and the nostalgia that comes along with it. I'm very very fond of this particular Macy's location. I have a lot of childhood memories in this store, back when Old Town was a symbol of urban decay, and everyone went shopping on South Lake Avenue. My family used to come here a lot around Christmas-time for shopping, back when this location was not Macy's, but rather Bullocks. I remember going down in the lower level, where the housewares are now, and Bullocks did an outstanding job with Christmas decorations. It was like going through the North Pole - a very magical place. I can still smell the cinnamon in the air. Santa was on the upper level for all the children, and also upstairs was the very classy tea room (today's furniture department - sigh), where my family would have lunch amidst the hustle and bustle of South Lake Avenue Christmas-shoppers running up against the deadline of Christmas Day. After Macy's took over Bullocks, this store lost a lot of its luster. It still had class somewhere in there, and old-world ambiance and retro look, but the shopping experience had changed - no longer were elevator men and valets necessary... it was all about in and out. I guess times have changed, and a lot of shoppers preferred to do their shopping in Old Town or elsewhere. I also think Macy's let the store fall into a disorganized affair. I was really happy to hear that this store was temporarily closing this year, and reopening this past November, and in the process, some of the old features would be restored. Today, this Macy's is a lot brighter and more inviting, better organized. It just flows better. It also seems to have a better selection of merchandise. They restored some of the old fireplaces in the building (one in the men's department and the other in the woman's department). Little signs point out historical features of this store, with explanations. Yeah, we may never get our old shopping experience back, nor our tea room, but at least this Macy's serves as a reminder of what once was. What used to be Bullock's Wilshire, another classy old department store, today serves as the Southwestern School of Law. At least we have the former Bullocks Pasadena preserved, in some shape or form as a dept. store. read more

One of last historic Macy's still around. It used to be a fancy Bullock's back in the 40's or 50's, but Macy's took it over. It's located on Lake Ave right in the heart of the shopping district. It has that old historic charm and has the original design as it did back when it first opened. The inside has gone under a total renovation a few years back and looks very nice. You can tell just by walking into the store that this place was luxurious back in the day. There is free parking in the garage which is also parking for Corner Bakery, Trader Joe's, Borders, Boiling Pot, Cold Stone, Beard Papa's, and many more stores. read more

My mom loves going to this particular Macy's store. And I'm really confused as to why... Every time I go into the store I feel like people are watching me because I don't fit their idea of an ideal shopper. Older white or Persian upper middle class San Marino/ Pasadena type. Some of the people who work there are OK but others will just straight ignore you when you ask a simple question like "where is the bathroom". They won't even look at you if you're not made up to the nine's with a beautiful outfit and perfectly manicured nails. This is confusing to me because I don't always feel like dressing up before I go to Macy's and for them to treat their clients like that is really discouraging. Now down to the actual products they sell at this particular store. It is really geared towards an elderly woman. Myself as a woman in my 40s who is a professional I have never found anything to purchase for myself in terms of clothing at this particular store. I've purchased cookware and houseware like towels and pots and stuff like that but not clothing. Also their make up is very limited to once again the elderly woman. Their kids area doesn't really have much. They have a large discounted area but that's only because the stuff doesn't sell and so it goes out of season and then they have to mark it off. Parking has improved in the last 10 years but can still sometimes be difficult and also once again in reference to their staff they tend to be very slow at check out and that can lead to long waits in very short lines. read more

They must be short-staffed because it's always hard for me to find someone to help me locate an item. They are usually friendly, but it's frustrating to wait around just to find a sales person. This Macy's is top notch. I was treated poorly at the Macy's located in the Santa Anita Mall, on more than one occasion, and even though Macy's used to be my favorite store, I stopped going to all Macy's altogether because of my experiences in Arcadia. I didn't even order anything from them online. This went on for several months, all through the holiday season. Then I stopped into the Macy's on Lake Ave. for something I needed somewhat urgently, and I was helped by a clerk named Cindy in the Women's Dept. She was so nice! I learned that I was wrong about Macy's being one of my favorite stores in the first place - but this Macy's on Lake Ave. is! Because all of the employees are so awesome at this Macy's, I assumed all Macy's were like that, but they're not. It's just this one. All other Macy's should take training from this store in Customer Service. I love shopping here, all of the employees are nice, friendly and helpful. read more

I'm really impressed with this store and in particular with the Macys app. There's some great discounts on the app and when I order through the app I can easily pick up my items at the curbside pickup which is super convenient. This review is strictly for the on-line pick up counter. The cashier was not rude at all. I just think someone should pay attention at what the customer's view is when picking up items. There was a "SIGN" on a crowd control pole WITH an arrow AND a mat on the floor stating "on-line order pick up". To anyone who knows how to read you would think that means that it is the line for online order pick up, so I get out of the regular line and get in line for the pick up line only to be told that I need to get in to the regular line (now that I have lost my place in the regular line). I usually get my items shipped to my home and it was my first time doing a pick up. I found this situation inconvenient and displeasing. read more

Elevators???? Who cares!!! Went in to check out the Memorial Day sale and left severely disappointed. I checked out their website before I arrived to have an idea what might be some great deals to take advantage of.... Every single item I had on my shopping agenda was not even in stock! Not one! Incredible. The items on sale were even on the website with a *store pick up available* but these items were not even in the store... The main item on my list (what got me into this mess) was a 24" Sterling silver rope necklace (original price about $170.00, sales price was $65.00) after finally getting Someone to help me in the small section of the men's jewelry dept, they didn't have a clue what sale items were available....like I mentioned earlier... not one sales item was in stock and the sale had just started!!! Then the woman at the kiosk tried to up sell me showing me other Sterling silver necklaces with a price range between $400.00 and $800.00. Really???!!! I left immediately. read more

Tim Wong in the furniture department is top notch!! We have ordered a couch for an office l, couches for our living room and bedroom furniture ( at different times). We were so impressed with Tom's customer service we always ask for him. We needed to add on to our bedroom furniture with a tall dresser. Unfortunately, it was not available. It was on sale. Tom told me to take a picture of the price. If it becomes available, he will give it to us at that price. Approximately seven months later, I noticed it was available to order. I called Tom. He told me he would honor the price like he said. I went to Macys and placed the order. He informed me it could take a few months. He said he would call me in a few days to let me know when it would arrive. Tom did call me. The dresser would be in their warehouse around June 14th. Could be sooner. I received a call on May 17th from Tom to schedule the delivery. We received our dresser on May 21st. GREAT SERVICE!!! If you want to purchase furniture, go to Macys on Lake in Pasadena and ask for Tom Wong!!!! read more

This place is a ghost town. Walked in looking for somebody who works here that isn't from Lenscrafter or in the perfume make up section, no luck. I walked around the whole store from shoes to the opposite end where women's clothes and I see one booth with 4 people lining up. I don't expect the place to be packed, but it would be nice to have some workers working the floor. Of course, wouldn't you know it. As I complete my full circle, in the northwestern section, in the far dead end corner I see 3 workers chatting it up and another worker working a register behind a literal wall and a figurative wall of clothes. read more

This is the Macy's that we always go to. Not as crowded as Santa Anita, and more sophisticated in ways such as amenities, such as children's haircuts, furniture, and other items the average Macy's does not carry. It should be listed as a historical site, as this was "The Place" for the elite (pre-Yelp) where mostly women would get together for lunch and socialize for the afternoon. Today, it has since been dismantled, and now houses the furniture mentioned earlier. Their closeouts for luggage and bedding is remarkable, as it is deeper discounted than the typical Macy's I'm used to. If you like to step back into the past of Pasadena, enjoy this shopping icon located right on Lake! read more

Every time I've been here, the customer service has been really slow / hard to come by. My visit earlier this week was no different. I came in on a weekday for an online pick up. Should be a quick process right? After all, I already paid for the item and received the email saying it's ready to be picked up... Nope! I go to the online pick up register located on the first floor and no one was there. And of course there were no associates around that I can flag down. Finally after 5 minutes, someone came to the online pickup register. But instead of helping me with the online pickup (along with 3 other online order pick up customers who has been waiting), she helps someone that was making an in-store purchase. (Why bother having a designated online pick up register then?) A few minutes later, another associate comes by and assists me with my order. When she finally came back with my item, we had to walk around looking for an open register since the first associate was still using the register with the in-store purchase. We went to 3 different registers all over the first floor and finally found one that was open. When it was time to hand over my items, I saw that there were no gift receipts included (when I placed the order I selected gift receipts). The associate told me she was unable to print it out and told me to go to the department and they can try there. So more time wasted and I had to wait in the long line of the department where my item was from. When it was finally my turn, the associate said she was unable to print out the gift receipts. She had to return the items and repurchase it again... As she was looking through the bag in hopes of finding the gift receipt, I noticed that one of the item was damaged. So then I had to have her go on the floor and find the exact item to swap it out. The whole ordeal took 45 minutes for something that should have been a quick in and out. The only good thing about this Macy's is that the parking is free. Expect to spend a good amount of time for your online order pick up. And check your order before you leave! If you're in a rush, this is not the Macy's for you. read more

I have childhood memories of coming here with my mom on special occasions for tea, back when this was Bullocks and the tea room was open. My parents always used to tell me that back in the day, "Old Town" used to be "Downtown Pasadena" and was incredibly dangerous and sketchy; while "South Lake" had all the classy stores like Bullocks and I. Magnin. For most of my adult life I've thought of this as "the Macy's close by me that's the least amount of a clusterfuck" because it's not really part of a mall. It wasn't until I went here a few weeks ago on a shopping excursion with my mom that I realized how stunningly gorgeous the building is. Apparently, it was designed Welton Becket, who also designed the Capitol Records building and the Cineramadome. Nine times out of ten, historic buildings get remodeled and lose so much of the character that made them neat in the first place. However, I've gotta hand it to the South Lake Macy's. Walking in through their shiny, modern corridors makes me feel like I've gone back to the time when this truly was the classy place to shop. Truth be told, though, I really don't like shopping. But, the sales they have are irresistible, especially in the Cellar. (By the way, the lady who works in the Cellar is a total sweetheart.) Four sets of Fiesta ware for the price of one?! Count me in. read more

This was one of the better Macys stores....past!!!! I miss Bullocks and the service and selection that it had. My first thought for this store is where the heck is the management.... I was in here yesterday...most counters had no one behind them, the ones that did had four people standing chatting with eachother, acting like I was a burden... Took up a pair of shoes....the four of them looked at me like..what do you want? Finally chick steps up and says..who helped you? What happened to ' how can I help you"????? Is that extinct??? Oh and then went into the robot/computer /macys handbook blah blah blah... Her: would you like to sign up for a Macys card today? Me; NO Her; You can save 10% on your purchase Me; NO Her: ( eye roll ) Rings up my shoes for $54.00....I point out they are $39.....she argues with me....blah blah blah...at this point I want to shove the shoes where her sun don't shine.....this is why I prefer buying stuff online.....argh....what happened to customer is right, be friendly....customer service....argh...I might need to start popping xanex before I shop??? So not hard to guess I was right about the price.....NO.....She doesn't apologize..... HEY MACYS....I DO NOT WANT A DAMN STORE CARD EVER...DO I NEED TO WALK AROUND WITH A SIGN ON MY HEAD THAT SAY ' DO'NT ASK ME IF I WANT A STORE CARD, BECAUSE THE NEXT TIME I AM ASKED I AM NOT SHOPPING HERE AGAIN'?????? I know its in their handbook..but come on...time for change..its false advertising...save 10% today on your $50 purchase so we can ram you at 24% for the rest of your life. I don't want a card....and I don't wanna be asked every F-N time I walk in the store...my answer...' I'm still not a dumbass and I will never buy your snakeoil"..... This is what they need in their handbook... Greet clients with a friendly how can I help you Actually try to assist clients when they need When not ringing things up or helping clients, go around straightening up the racks never try to hang or sell a dress or anything else thats covered in wrinkles ( its called a steamer, and I know you have them in the back) Thank customers for their purchase and welcome them back for next time.... IS IT THAT HARD????? Macys needs to work on their buyers and management....they are going downhill fast...I have noticed them rapidly getting worse since they closed the Paseo store....just a guess but maybe its the same idiot staff that worked at Paseo that is weighing them down. Anyway they are about to lose my business....If I have to do a Macys I think I pick Fashion Square or South Coast...shame on you Pasadena!!!! read more

This Macy's has long been considered a part of Pasadena's architectural history and the South Lake Business District has often been referred to the "toniest" part of town. Prior to the remodel of the location, I considered their inventory to be frumpy and outdated, catering to the "old money" of the neighborhood. I can now say that this Macy's is a true reflection of the revitalization of the area. From the moment you enter the store you are treated as royalty. Whatever you can afford is catered to and their sales keep everything within budget. The store at the Paseo Mall is much more contemporary, yet I really do like the history of this location. Surrounding shopping destinations include Anthropologie, Beard Papa, Trader Joe's, Borders Bookstore, Ten Thousand Villages and Pie & Burger is only a few blocks away. read more

This review is for the Kid's Hairstyling on the 3rd floor. I wish it had it's own entry because it was seriously that great! We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and we were so bummed that they closed at 5pm. As we were walking away, a lovely lady named Dora came up to us and asked us if my son needed a haircut. I was a bit confused at first because she looked like a regular shopper but it quickly became clear that she runs the haircut shop. She offered to open up the shop and give him a cut - an hour after close. Seriously, what awesome service!! She did a great job with the cut and was so sweet to my little boy. She offered to keep a lock of his hair for our scrapbook. Too bad I'm up for Worst Mother of the Year and I haven't even started a scrapbook for my 15 month old! meh. After the cut, she gave him a certificate for his 1st haircut. It was just too cute. The place is adorable too. It's been there since the 60s and just takes you back to the days of the good 'ol barber shop. We had a great time! Cost of the haircut was $15. We will definitely be back. I can't say enough good things about this place and about Dora. read more

I was looking for a dress and found one. I waited in line for about 25 minutes, might have been more. But there were only two people ahead of me. Anyway, the dress was a little pricy, so I figured I would open a macys credit card so I could apply the discount. Long story short, I was told I didn't get approved for the card because I didn't answer the security questions over the phone. So I had to pay by other means. Two weeks later I get a denial letter for the credit card then two days later I get a macys card in the mail... Can you say fraud? What happened and how did this card get authorized? Why review this particular Macy's? Because I have yet to visit one that had a better selection of Misses' clothing. Even Beverly Center will have to take a very close second to the Lake Macy's (although the shoe selection is much better at Beverly Center). Marc Jacobs, Lacoste, Paige Premium Denim, Michael Kors, Diane Von Furstenburg... okay so maybe I can't afford that many things yet but it's fun to browse the sale racks! Especially on the eastside, Macys is just not what it used to be. Maybe there'll be a pair of Sevens laying around on top of a rack, or some Baby Phat crap on sale, but in general the other surrounding Macys (Paseo Colorado and Santa Anita Mall) just plain suck. Lake Macy's is in a cute location--near an Express, Anthropologie, Borders, and Corner Bakery. South Lake in general is a fun little Sunday-strolling type of spot if you haven't been. If you need to go to Macys--go to the Lake one and you'll be pleasantly surprised by its wooden floors, locale, and the high fashion that awaits you inside! read more
