This place has gone completely downhill. When it was a Marshall Field's, you walked in and were warmly greeted and surrounded by appropriate for the area high class and quality products. Now it has a cold feeling, surrounded by products that are far cheaper than what people who go to Oak Brook center are looking for. The store is not maintained nearly as well either; it is constantly dirtier and dingier. The bathrooms are a perfect example; by far amongst the dirtiest I have ever seen in Oak Brook center. I walked in to the Men's restroom and was so overwhelmed by the smell of urine I walked immediately out. It smelled as if someone urinated all over the floor weeks ago and no one cleaned it up. The service is fine, for a Macy's. The products are store appropriate, but as I mentioned; they are not appropriate for the kind of clientele Oak Brook Center typically serves. You're not getting Marshall Field's quality products or service, that's for sure. The downstairs cafe feels old and out of date; the foods are often lacking in variety or are uninteresting. Quite literally, the only reason I would enter this store is for the Marshall Field's Frango chocolates. I've lived in the area for a long time and my family frequented the former Marshall Field's, so I have seen firsthand the low-rent nature that Macy's has used to replace the classy and reputable Marshall Field's. The Macy's is a huge tarnish on the otherwise shining shopping mall that is Oak Brook Center. If the Marshall Field's family saw that this is what has replaced their sublime brand, they would roll over in their graves. read more

So... I'm preeetty sure I was racially profiled at Macy's Oakbrook. I'm a mid-20s black woman and I was shopping yesterday in the woman's handbag section (1st floor) in the late afternoon. I was dressed casually; jean shorts, a hoodie and Doc Marten boots. Before I entered the handbag section there were about 4 or 5 older white ladies browsing without any assistance. As soon as I crossed the threshold into the handbag section an older white sales lady named Carolyn asked me if I needed help. Fair enough, I smiled and said, "No thank you, I'm just browsing" and kept looking. But she didn't leave. Over the course of the next 5 to 7 minutes this woman continued to follow me through the store. She asked me questions about where I was from and what my name was, and suggested handbags for me to buy although I repeatedly (at least 3 or 4 times) told her kindly that I DID NOT need or want her help. I looked around and none of the other women browsing were being hounded in the same fashion. Carolyn would not let me walk more than 15 or 20 feet without following behind me and nervously peppering me with questions UNRELATED to the purchase of a handbag. Absolutely disgusted with what was happening, I began to ignore her and update my Facebook status on my phone with a recap of what was happening. She still lingered. Finally I found a purse and went to the register to check out. While at the register I mentioned the uncomfortable situation to another sales associate and the young girl (white, college aged) was quick to dismiss my concerns. "I've known Carolyn for years" she said. After spending my precious $140 on a Vince Camuto handbag and being harassed by one employee and dismissed by another, I called the head of the handbag department to complain. Her response was almost exactly the same as the sales associate. "We've known Carolyn for years," she said. "She's just really helpful." Yeh... right. So, not only am I disgusted with being followed which, by all accounts, was racially profiling at its finest. I'm also disgusted at the response of the associate and department head. Even if they were thinking to themselves, "This chick is wrong about Carolyn." It's TOTALLY unprofessional to say that to me. They should have thanked me for calling, and said they would look into it. Not dismiss my concerns. I am absolutely disgusted with this Macy's, and I'm not surprised by all the other accounts of poor customer service at this place. read more

This review is for Macy's Customer Service 800 # & Credit Card Security Dept. This is the number you have to call if you have an issue with an online order, cancellation of such order and/or are referred to Card Security. I have NEVER in my life dealt with such incompetency when trying to get answers about an online order I placed at least 6 times over their 4th of July sale. My order would go through, email confirmation received, and 5 minutes later an email notifying me that my order was cancelled. I was referred to the 1800# (call center in Columbia). I spoke to several representatives and Supervisors regarding my order and NOT ONE person was able to help me or provide information as to why my orders kept getting cancelled. Two rep's told me to go into the store to purchase items!! Are you kidding me?? The whole reason of going online was to find sizes and styles they didn't have in the store the previous day I was there. I was beyond frustrated to say the least and ready to pull my hair out.... I was referred to the Security dept multiple times and verified my Macy's card information. They told me there was an issue with verification. When I asked what the issue was they could not tell me, yet it was MY card! What's the point of speaking to them then? What good are they? Useless. I was then told I could call customer service and reference my order # and they could process it versus purchasing online. I did exactly that and the outcome was the same. Cancelled order. No explanation, no answers. I needed to get to the bottom of this, so I thought I'll contact a manager in the store, maybe they could enlighten me. I spoke to the Sales Manager in Oak Brook who was nice enough to process my large order over the phone (apparel & shoes). I explained the entire situation. She didn't know why this happened but assured me if she rang it up, I wouldn't have any issues. I asked if I would receive an email confirmation and she said I would. She also said if I had further problems to contact her. All in all she really tried to help. She confirmed my order went through, card charged. I never received an email. I contacted her a few days later to check on my order. She stated it had been cancelled! No kidding! Shocker! At that point, she was at a loss for words and referred me to the same #. Back to square one. In addition, some items that were shown as 'available' online, were not available in the "warehouse" per the Sales Manager. Apparently, customer service does not update available merchandise. How nice! I had a friend create a new Macy's profile online using her card & billing info and she had the same issue! After trying to purchase a second time, the order finally went through. She was equally puzzled and contacted cust service as well. They gave her the same runaround. To this day I have no idea what the problem was. I used to shop at Macy's more frequently in the past, online and in store. Hadn't shopped there in over a few years and I am now done with Macy's. My order was $600. They will never see another dime from me. Talk about a clusterf*ck of a customer service & security dept. Never again. Huge waste of my time. They are CLUELESS. Macy's tried to give me crabs. Yes. Truth. But Grant, I thought you were giving them five stars. That doesn't seem like something worthy of five stars. Ah, but listen up, children, as I tell you the tale of a purse; a purse shaped like a crab (Betsey Johnson) that my wife wanted to buy and the lovely staff at Macy's tried their damnedest to find. Unfortunately, after turning the store upside down they just could not locate said purse. But boy did they try. A team of two sales associates (Peggy and Rita) tackled all three floors of the store and if that purse was still in that building they were determined to find it. Sadly, the computer system wasn't up-to-date and the one remaining purse it showed in stock had either been purchased or stolen, cuz it wadn't thur. But these two women truly went out of their way to try and locate it for us, and in doing so broke my impression of the store (a corporate monster that gobbled up local stores and forced their heartless, cold brand in place of them RIP Marshall Field's) and replaced it with a much more humane version that I might actually not be afraid to shop at. Annoying. This place was highly annoying to me. From the second I walked in to hear the music blaring from the Lush department to the moment I walked out with one bag. I even went to see what Lush was all about. Unfortunately, I still don't know because I walked over and was promptly ignored by all of the employees standing there looking at me like I had three heads. Moving along. The purse department was a disaster area. Some of the items that I picked up didn't even have a price tag. I made my way past the jewelry cases...no one said hello here or even stopped talking to each other. Finally, I ended up in woman's accessories by gloves and scarves. I picked out a scarf and tripped my way to the register. There was stuff all over the place! When it was my turn, the employee asked if I had a coupon. I didn't. So he asked the other employee about putting in the coupon code for me anyhow. She brushed him off and he asked the person in line behind me if she had a coupon. She didn't either. And without another word, he completed the transaction without a coupon. Or a discount. Here's the thing. I didn't ask for the coupon/discount. He brought it up and made an effort only for it not to pan out. It was obvious that the other employee could have entered the code and she chose not to. He acted like it was no big deal to enter the code and she acted like she was appalled he would suggest such a thing. It was all weird. And annoying. And so with my scarf, I left. Back pass Lush and out the door. I won't be going back to this Macy's for any reason that I can think of again. read more

I must say that I was pretty disappointed in this store. The downfall of converting a Marshall Field's to Macy's really must have hit it pretty hard. It's SO cluttered that it can be difficult to walk through because they're trying to cram way too much into the space. The basement used to be one of my favorite places in Marshall Field's and it just doesn't have the same vibe. The classy elegance that was Marshall Field's is now more like Kohl's than ever before. The only semi-redeeming quality about this place is its food court, and even that isn't all that great. The employees here are always confused as to what's going on, or why there are all these weird people (shoppers) here trying to look at their goods (please know that I mean 'goods' in the most tongue in cheek way). The only employees this doesn't apply to are those blessed food court people who bent over backwards to find me the best cookie possible in the plastic case. I cannot thank you enough for your cookie expertise. As far as the rest of the store goes, I have just one thing to say (followed by a bunch of other stuff): Welcome to the 90's! This is one of those Macy's where you are either treated like royalty, or you are treated like a mere peasant. I have been shopping that this location since I was a snobby teenager obsessed with designer labels. Now, I shop here because I care about getting quality products at decent prices whenever they have a good sale. Yesterday, I tried some of their desserts in the newly-remodeled lower level. They moved all the housewares and luggage upstairs next to the fine china and bath area. Now, they just have the kids clothes, candy. and food in the lower level. So, back to the desserts. Now they have a bunch of new in-house-made desserts, including some fancy refrigerated treats, as well as lemon bars, 7 layer bars, and about 5 types of cupcakes and cookies. Did I say cupcakes? Yes, cupcakes. The insane cupcake crazy has made it to Macy's. They are $2.50 each and look as good as those at any cupcake shop; however, the red velvet and coconut cupcakes that I bought were on the dry side. They were dense and had a nice flavor, but I cannot handle a dry cupcake. It's a shame, as I do like indulging in a good cupcake from time to time. Next time, I will try a jumbo cookie. I've never been a Macy's shopper - but my friends always seem to find good deals here - thought I would check it out. I was on a mission to revamp some of my wardrobe, so I thought I'd give them a shot - not a fan. Not sure why they hide the plus-size clothes, upstairs, in the corner, behind the appliances. Macy's has come to the rescue twice in the past few months. The first time is when I needed a dress for a wedding I was attending. Now, I hate wearing dresses, so I only own about three dresses, and they're all on the casual side and not very good for a wedding. I searched high and low for dresses and couldn't find anything that wasn't skanky or matronly or ridiculously expensive. I am NOT paying more than $50 for a dress I'm not going to wear that often. With only a few days left before the wedding, I stopped at Macy's. After trying on things and losing hope, I finally stumbled upon a cute dress from the junior's section that wasn't skanky (surprisingly). And it was only $35 bucks. Huzzah! Now to pay. Oh, where to pay. We walked around the second floor looking for an open register. Finally found one, only to be told by the uppity snarky woman that "This is for ____ (insert overpriced designer here) only. You'll have to pay for that somewhere else." Really? God forbid anyone who spends less than $200 for a t-shirt dare step foot in that section. Finally found a register for the peons like me. The second time was last week when I miraculously got a job interview and I needed a suit. My first stop was Express, but their jacket choices weren't too great. The Limited had better jacket choices, but no matching pants. (only skirts. Psht.) So, on to Macy's again. Had to navigate through the maze of the second floor. I swear they do it so you'll look at all the clothes they have but guess what Macy's?! I hate shopping! So your trickery has no effect on me as I zero in on exactly what I need and get the F out. Finally saw a section of suits. A good portion of them either made me look like Dana Scully from X-Files or like I was wearing my mommy's clothes. Finally found one that actually gave me a little shape. Of course, I'm none too happy about having to buy a suit and pay more than $100 for any clothing. Went to the peon register. The girl behind the counter was incredibly nice and probably sensed how poor I was because she said "Let's pretend you're a VIP so you can get the discount," and applied a beautiful 25% discount. Hooray! Thank God for her. I've gotten lucky here twice and it will continue to be my emergency clothing go-to. However, I wish stuff wasn't so hard to find in their clusterfu*k of a store. Also, just a side note, but the "women's section" aka plus size clothing is stuck in the corner on the third floor with the kitchenware. Um, that's mean. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, then I would gladly do so. I found a pair of jeans on sale and the little price checker computer told me that it would be an additional 20% off if I used my Macy's card. Well, I don't have a Macy's card, but my mom has one. So I ask a sales lady to put the jeans on hold. She is completely uninterested and has a handful of clothes in her hand. I give her my name and she's like, "Okay". I ask her if she's going to write it down and she said "later". Well, I come back the next day with mom in tow as promised, and of course the sales lady never put them up. And I cannot find them anywhere else on the floor and they were the only ones in my size. They are gone and I am sad. I go a size down praying that they will suffice (hey, the tag says they're stretch), but my mom wants to check out the women's--ahem, plus size--section first. She asks a sales girl and she tells us that she has no clue. What?? Darling, you work here! We find the women's department and my mom is rummaging. There is a sales lady up there as well and she says "Hello" and then rests her chin in her hand and continues to stare at us for the duration that we are looking. Just stares. My mom says just forget it and we go to another register to pay for the jeans. There is no one at any register, but we find a a wandering sales girl who ask us if we need help. We earnestly nod our heads. I receive my discount on the jeans and my mom tells her it's going to be on her Macy's card for the additional percentage off. The lady tells me that it wouldn't apply because they don't combine discounts. Listen, I know my coupons and codes as I've worked in retail for the past 6 years. Usually, using your card is not a combination of a physical coupon. She is adamant and we are too. What do I do? I go directly to Macy's website when I get home to file my complaint. I never cared about he Marshall Fields/Macy's merge, but after this day, they do not have to worry about receiving my money ever again. read more

This review is for the Elizabeth Arden cosmetics counter. All I wanted was some foundation - upon looking at their new eyeshadows I decided I'd treat myself to one of those as well. Upon walking up to the counter, I waited and waited for service. Finally a woman came up to me asking if I needed help. I wanted her opinion on finding a foundation shade to match my uneven skin tone. She helped after I suggested that I thought *this* might be the proper color for me - and asked what she thought...ok. Now for the super annoying part. I was asked twice if I wanted their new cream blush. No means no. Then I was asked if I wanted eyeliner, if I needed mascara, if I would like to add some eye makeup remover to my items. It got painful to keep saying NO, I do not want those items. Then I got the whole Macy's credit card spiel about saving 20% if I open a card...then I was asked if I want to donate $5 to some charity cause, and then I was asked if I want to be on their special e-mail list to receive news and updates about sales...listen lady I am buying 2 products from you. That is all I want. Leave me alone! I understand the whole sales perspective but the more you ask and push, the less I want to keep coming back. read more

Wow, whats with all the low reviews? I actually enjoyed my experience at this Macys and the service everyone gave us. We shopped here on a Thursday afternoon and when we went to the cookware, jewelry, or purse/bags someone ALWAYS came up to us to ask us if we needed any assistance. We had at least five different sales associate approach us. I was VERY impressed by how willing they were to help. Unfortunately I cant rate them on their knowledge since we didnt need their help. My only complaint is that I wish they had more Pyrex items in stock and less stainless steel products made in China. read more

I go to Macy's for three reasons: 1) When I've shopped everywhere else and must try Macy's out of desperation. 2) Final clearance, after the holidays, sales on sleepwear or outerwear. 3) To stock up on Frango mints for holiday gifts. Macy's carries brands that can be found elsewhere. The selection of petite clothing is less than average. There are no shoes in my size (Women's 4). Rarely are there bargains in housewares. Finding help ANYwhere in the store takes way too much time. The attitude, knowledge, and courteousness of Macy's employees varies A LOT. Many employees seem to be counting the minutes 'til their release. If you can, shop elsewhere. read more

I went with the intent of buying a Samsung Galaxy watch. There were 3 employees who came by and greeted us as they immediately walked away after. They didn't give me an opportunity to ask a question. They went to the opposite side of the counter. Another customer came by and she was helped. The other 2 employees were hanging out at the other side of the counter talking to each other. This is the worst experience I've had and decide to leave the store and buy the watch at best buy instead. read more

The only reason I really go t macy's is to see what new scents are are for perfumes. Macy's is not a regal as Marshall field's was. I've shopped at this store for years, moreso when it was Marshall Fields. The only reason I was going this stostore at all was for convenience, but I've finally become fed up with this place. The quality of the products here has gone downhill fast. Even with the new renovations, things are hard to find (not logical), the selection stinks, clothes are not maintained neatly and the personel at the store are less than helpful. In the cosmetics department, about a week ago, I went in to get two things. The gal helping me would not answer my questions or look at me, then she kept checking her phone for text messages. When I checked out she kept trying to upsell me to the macy's visa card, which I replied "NO" multiple times. Then she tried to act like she was offering me some fantastic deal that she highly recommended. I got so irritated that I told her NO again and that if that was unaccepable to her I would take my purchase over to Nordstroms where they have no problem listening and respecting my decision to decline the "wonderful offering". She finally rang up my purchase, but was signing loud, tapping her fingers and acting all agitated. Afterwards I purchased some coach perfume at a different counter - which I had no issues with the sales person. But, as I walked back out through the cosmetics - the exact same sales rep that I had issues with not 10 minutes prior was trying to sell me something like she never saw me before. I lifed up my bag and said - I'm good, don't you remember? She got all huffy and turned around like a kid getting told no by their parents. Although I do have a Macy's card, I really only use it to order online for specific items that I know are good quality like specific perfumes, cosmetics and home related items. I don't really bargain shop there because the quality of the items with those deals is terrible - and border line like Kohls or Kmart at 3x the price. I miss Marshall Fields and try to route as many of my purchases through Nordstrom and other retailers now because it's much nicer, the sales people are more helpful and the quality is that much better. Oh, and the coupons they send to card holders? A joke. They work on nothing and there is always an exclusion or condition that renders it useless. Then, since it doesn't work they try to sell you some special that will let you get a% off for a certain period of time, though it too excludes everything under the sun. I don't know how Macy's gets away with this - it's definitely deceptive advertising and falsely luring customers in to use coupons that have "hidden exclusions". As far as racial profiling at this store? I don't believe it is generally the case but there really is no way to know for certain. The employees there are snooty to some, overbearing and annoying with other and completely absent and disinterested in other customers. It's a poorly run store, from a chain that is not known for quality and customer service and they can be complete jerks to everyone. I've had other issues at this store and other Macy's in the past and it really appears to be a different root cause. I stopped complaining to them long ago because they just don't care. Customer churn isn't a concern for Macy's. Where one leaves, they lure 3-4 more unsuspecting new ones, in. Overall, I would and will avoid this store like the plague. I have been there many times and every single time the sales associates are just standing right in front of me giggling, ignoring me (for 10 minutes), and when I asked politely to get some help, they always get upset to interrupt their conversation rolling eyes at me. I am talking about 4 or 5 employees (including the manager himself) all acknowledged me and they totally ignored me, not even to tell me "will be right back with you, please hold a moment", nothing. I hate this Macy's. We come here because there is more selection, but the service is always awful. My main complaint is in regards to the Ralph Lauren department. There are always long lines, no one willing to help and rude cashiers who never know the store policies. I was in there last night and walked around the department for over 15 minutes without being greeted, even though there was a cashier behind the counter and no one else in the department. If you have an option to go elsewhere, I would. I will say that this is where I registered for my wedding and the woman in the registry department was VERY helpful and friendly. Then I called their support line and spoke to various folks from India. They had no idea how to remove my email from their spam list. Cluttered and dirty. Clothes thrown everywhere, could not find what I was looking for. After walking in circles for an hour, left after only getting a couple of the things that I wanted. Several of the registers were empty and the design section had naked mannequins. I tried to get help at the register near Vince Camuto, but the lady working there was talking to her friend and told me to find another register across the store. Very rude. Lower level was extremely cluttered and dirty. Was going to buy something at Starbucks but didn't due to the line and unsanitary conditions. Horrible experience in the Men's Shoes department. I normally have great experiences with the clerks, all delightful women. This time it was a younger male. What a horrid person. He wouldn't listen to what my husband wanted and he constantly wanted my husband to try on a shoe that was not what we wanted and was totally out of our budget. When we rejected the shoes he brought out, he muttered under his breath and acted like we were being unreasonable. We told him what we wanted! We walked out with nothing and will only return when he's not there. The women there are very nice. Stick with the females, they won't force you to buy something you can't afford. read more

Meh... I wish I could give this place more stars. I used to love the Marshall Field's that formerly occupied this space. Macy's has a really large inventory, but they don't carry XXL or XLT (I'm 6'5) in the store, so it's annoying as f*** to shop here. Sometimes they have a stray XXL item in stock, but the stuff is way too small to actually be XXL (leading me to believe that these were returned items from web purchases). The staff aren't terrible, but they sure as heck aren't Nordstrom-quality either. It's hard to find anyone to help you as most of the employees seem overwhelmed by their ennui. I personally like not being bothered, but I also loathe digging through racks trying to find a pair of jeans or pants in my size. Selection is the redeeming quality here (hence the 3 stars). They have a really nice Polo department, a good North Face shop, their mens furnishings and fragrances are excellent. I also am kind of a prima donna when it comes to skin care, and the ladies at the Clinique counter are always really nice. I get Field's is gone forever (sniff), and I know that Macy's keeps costs down by having lower quality service than Nordstrom, but I wish they'd actually carry tall mens sizes and maybe pay their employees a little more so they'd care a lot more. read more

This store is to be avoided at all costs. I brought a Breville toaster at a cost of almost $200 at Macy's, and it barely lasted about a year before the internal mechanism stopped going up and down to drop the toast. I brought the toaster back to Macy's with the original receipt, and was denied an exchange for a new one. I was told to contact the manufacturer and let them deal with it. So let's get this straight, I spend $200 on a toaster, and now I'm supposed to wait two months while this thing is shipped back to the manufacturer and I await a repair and be sent back to me. This is unacceptable. No other store does this. I've brought things back to Nordstrom well after a year with a receipt, and they've backed up their products. Same thing with Bed, Bath and Beyond. Shop at these stores which you'll know they'll stand by, if there's a problem with your purchase. In addition, Macy's looks like a complete bargain dump inside with everything thrown all over the place. This was not how my beloved Marshall Fields used to look inside, and that was not how Marshall Fields conducted business when you had an issue. read more

Oh Macy's, to me, you will never fill the shoes of Marshall Fields but I can give you points for effort. As I stated in a review of another location, I don't usually shop at Macy's for except for make up or purses. The purse selection here is much better than Bolingbrook and that is what may keep me coming here. The service is also a lot better than the Bolingbrook location. The only thing I don't like is the building is really starting to show it's age. Every step I take, I see another broken floor tile. Bad, not only does it not look nice but it really is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The customer service here has been a complete 180 from the Bolingbrook location. I love Macy's I spent most of my Christmas shopping at the one Downtown store which had outstanding service. I found myself returning a set of pajamas I purchased for my mother at the Oakbrook Macy's the pajamas were $40.00+ I used my personal credit card for most of my shopping but had also used a $25.00 gift card toward the items on the receipt. I spent over $140.00. I did not plan on buying anything else that day. The lady a young girl at the register returned the pajamas but wanted to give me 1/2 on a gift card. I couldn't understand why? I explained to her majority was spent on my personal credit card why are you splitting the sale. I asked for a manager, she called over her manager (a heavy set black woman maybe in her late 30's wearing a sparkly black mask whom I should of got her name, I was at the counter on the lower level by the parking entrance I came thru) The manager replied no you have to get it also back on a gift card. I showed her the receipt " she replied I can see" I kindly took the gift card gave it to the person in line behind me, and walked out, I then decided I will not shop at Macy's again. During COVID things have been hard enough, but to get bullied into shopping at a store is terrible and that's how I felt. I will not return back to the Oakbrook store for sure, and I will do my best to go directly to jockey, coach, etc.. why get terrible customer service, I'll just shop Amazon on-line which I was advised to by another Macy's employee (terrible). . Ok, I used to be one of those Macy's haters for the simple fact that they deleted Marshall Field's. I must admit I do shop at Macy's, but they've turned into Kohl's where they have sales and coupons all the time, it's like why don't you just lower your prices in the first place? Anyway, the Oak Brook store used to be nice, used to be clean, used to have star workers. Now, the clothes racks, dressing rooms and floors are a WRECK! There are definitely still some old school Fields superstar employees, but they are few and far between. Macy's needs to up the pay to attract people who actually care about customer service. It would also be great if they could book more staff as I usually have to walk two or three departments away to even pay for my merchandise. Agh! Stop being so frustrating Macy's! read more

This is one of my least favorite Macy's and it's a shame. All of the other stores in the area are actually pretty nice. I love outdoor malls, but this particular Macy's tacked onto the end of it is chaotic! You need a map, a machete and an entire search party to attempt to find anything. Good luck finding what you are looking for. You have better luck stumbling upon random things. I always seem to come across something when I'm not looking for it. Chances are that you won't be able to get much help from the people who work here. But you're going to find an abundance of people who will stand behind you and wait like clothing stalkers. Worst customer service, ever. I went to the shoe department to purchase boots. I had planned on trying on everything i could until I left with a pair of black and brown leather boots. However! Nothing I asked for was available in my size. Or one size up, or even one size down! The sales people kept suggesting I order online. I could have done that without leaving my home, but I came IN to TRY ON boots, not blindly order online. Meanwhile, there were no sales people to assist on the floor since a long line formed, consisting of people returning shoes that they, get this, ordered online! I finallllllly was approached by a tall, greyish-blonde haired woman who asked if I needed help. I'm the midst of my explanation, and a rude customer barges into our conversation and drops three pairs of clearance hooker heels in front of the woman. "I need these in a size 7". Instead of finishing up with me, the sales woman turns away from me to help the other person while I'm mid sentence! Hello, do you not want to make sales? ? Kiss your commission goodbye, lady. It seems that they want only quick and easy sales ( that will probably result in a return) instead of genuinely helping customers who are struggling to find what they need. So yes, while I'm seeking out at least one pair of quality $200+ leather boots, you snub me for someone potentially purchasing $49 dollar plastic pumps that will be worn and returned. These ignorant sales associates deserve everything they've got coming. Keep pushing all your business towards the internet sales and you'll be pushing yourselves right out of a job. read more

I had to make a return for an item purchased on-line (it was defective), so I went into the store. It was a shock when Macy's took over from Marshall Field's years ago, and I had never gone back. Well, I got a second shock. The store has been let go to ruin, for one. Beautiful wood panels near the elevators were scuffed probably beyond saving. The walls need a paint job, so many of the display cases were chipped or gouged. The bathrooms were worn out, doors hanging, dirty-- just a wreck. When I got to the department where I needed to make the return, there were no sales associates on the floor. None. I searched. And searched. I wanted to see if I could just replace the defective item, but there was no one to ask if they might have a replacement, and the clothes were off the hangers, on the floor, a mess. Several departments away, I found two women processing returns and purchases as fast as they could go, and a very long, very testy, line waiting for help. These employees had no time for a "hello, how can I help you? I'm sorry this didn't work out"-- I waited and waited and felt so sorry for them. They were super-efficient, but so overworked, I thanked them profusely for sticking with it, and got out. I am reluctant to buy anything anymore, even on-line, because I don't ever want to have to go back in the store. It's such a shame that management has done such a poor job. Macy's will never be Marshall Field's, but it should be better than a poorly run thrift store. read more

My mom and I went into Macy's because we had a problem with her makeup that she had purchased from Estee Lauder. The make up had separated and she needed to exchange it. The first employee that approached her was absolutely rude and had no clue how to treat a customer. She was then helped by Ellen, a counter manager. She was so very kind, understanding and went out of her way to help my mom. She explained to her how to store and travel with her make up and made sure that she found her another foundation that matched her skin tone. Out standing managerial skills! I have been a Macy's customer for years and really had a disappointing experience. I ordered two dresses online for store pick up. I got an email the next day that my order was ready and went to pick it up. When I came home and tried on the dresses, I though to myself I didn't realize the dress had pockets. That is because there were large holes in the dress. I was annoyed and am definitely going to return but I was more annoyed that it took a long time to contact someone in the store and when I did they took my information and no one called me back. Please do better and check the merchandise before giving to the customer. read more

8/6/09 - 4:35pm 1) Couldn't get a decent Macy's bag @ the Alfani register to put my 2 pairs of altered Michael Kors jeans in. Though I walked to another area nearby and was able to get a decent plastic Macy's bag, which is what the salesperson should of suggested that I do, instead of rushing off. Yeah, she apoogized a few times, but I don't find it comfortable walking through a store shopping with a bag similiar to a cleaners bag across my arms. Give a customer a choice or at least suggest one! 2) Couldn't get a scoop of mashed potatoes out of "THAT BOWL". THERE WERE 2 BOWLS OF MASHED POTATOES & the mashed potatoes which were fresher looking in the bowl that I wanted was UNTOUCHABLE per the server! The server outright refused to give me a scoop out of the bowl of my choice. She better be glad I didn't feel like putting up a freakin' fight. Her response, "Both bowls were prepared at the same time." I guess there's a Macy's policy that servers are to serve from the bowl which is less full. So you know I feel that my one star review of Macy's in Oak Brook was a bit of a sham and shame because they provide a consistently fine service for consistently high quality goods. Maralya was very helpful, kind, and sweet in the watches department. I ended up with a seiko and for the money and the look it was a great deal. Maureen in the women's intimates was pleasant and upbeat. She found exactly what I was looking for and got me an even better deal. Elizabeth in bedding also explained to me about the abundant different kinds of pillows and what made each one specifically different than the others. Each one had me listening and amazed at the product knowledge they had. It seems that perhaps some employees could have a mean streak but not uncommon of any places.
