I love this Vaughn Maher at Yorktown partial because of the sales tax and also partially because I feel like it's larger than the location in Glenview. Similar to the Glenview location it carries that same old school ambience which is really quite nice. They also sometimes have a live piano player as does Glenview, which is really fantastic and create a great feeling to add to that welcome Homie sense that they build. Similar to the Glenview location I will say again really great selection. They carry great brands however because I feel like it is slightly larger they carry even more product and therefore more options. Love coming here as usual parking is pretty easy inconvenient for Yorktown and so glad that old-school type department stores still exist somewhere here in the Illinois area. read more

I don't think I have to say this, but this place is expensive! There are $200 running shoes where you can go several miles up the street, and the running store has them for only $140! This is also a bougie place (my word of the week, haha). It's a large department store and extremely well lit/bright. For such a large store, there's not many employees. The bathrooms can be hard to find. I recommend it here vs. the food courts6 (yuck). The women's bathroom is on the lower levels, and the men's is on the top floor. The staff I interacted with have been friendly, but I see them get frustrated with some of the clientele. Too bad none of the men's clothes don't fit me. Everything here runs large and boxy. Maybe that's a good thing because it saves me a lot of money, haha. read more

More affordable than Saks Stiff Avenue & Needless-Markups, pricier than heretic Macy's or Kohl's. Since I haven't stepped foot in Oak Brook's Nordstrom in decades, perhaps equivalent? Salespeople are more friendly and helpful than pushy or judgmental. In February, was delighted to find a good selection of lingerie for a bridal shower trousseau--unsure if that depth is kept year-round or strictly due to Valentines. As far as the unkind review regarding the assortment: being well dressed will never go out of fashion; however, if you are looking for something trendy, you may have to shop elsewhere. I came out to Von Maur in Oak Brook to look for Mother of the Bride dresses and was thoroughly impressed! Not only was their selection large but the quality of selection was great! They had short and long dresses appropriate for all ages and size types. I saw sizes in store from 0-18. Debbie was working with us to kindly grab our dress selections to bring back to the room, make suggestions base on what we were liking, and kindly give us space to have an intimate experience. My husband and I were at Yorktown Center. As we were in the mall part, I had to use the bathroom. I found the bathroom in the mall, near the Christmas tree horribly disgusting. We were right next to Von Maur. We went into the store to use their bathroom. It was very nice, large, and clean. The rest of the store was clean and elegant. This was my first time visiting a Von Maur department store and it reminds me of a Neiman Marcus that I frequent in Northbrook Court. This store carries both expensive, designer brand items and affordable items as well. There was a pianist playing in the first floor area which sets a calm and cheerful mood while shopping. Clothes were not messy at all and dressing rooms were clean. There was enough team members on the floor to help assist customers. I didnt have to wander off all over the place to find someone at the cash register. The women's lounge was also very clean. I know weekends can get a little crazy some times but this wasnt the case here at Von Maur. Face masks are still required to enter the building. One of the things I liked about the store is their selection of Free People clothing. I usually don't see much variety at other stores. I was about to find a few pieces of clothing that I liked. Their customer service was great too. I had a couple clothes in my hands and was soon asked if I wanted a fitting room started. I feel like the store has a bit more couches/ chairs laid out on the floor for guys to just sit and wait while their wife/girlfriends shopped lol. Most of those chairs when i was there was occupied by a guy scrolling thru his phone while he waited with shopping bags next to him lol. I went into Von Maur gift area where I was just looking and seen a few things, nothing significant. Debbie asked if I needed help, really didn't but she was real attentive & nice. I seen something for Easter but also prompted me to another area to see more. I found 2 more items, 1 was more spring/summer. I was very happy with her as I said this wasn't a large purchase or anything of the significant nature. I also did not have my Von Maur card since I was just waiting around for my husband to get to a restaurant. She promptly called & before I knew it, it was rung up and put in a bag with tissue. My experiences with several Von Maur's no matter where is the same, professional, great merchandise & just perfect. I purchased so many boots/shoes over the years, I love stopping in and trying them on in the reduced. I also had purchased many shoes for my husband for a special occassion as Von Maur has great brands & comfortable shoes which my husband needs. Thank you, Glad you are doing well as I was told. Customer service is a nice touch especially when many places are lacking that extra. Debbie is an asset to your company. Love these Von Maur stores. We have one in Orland Park and it is a wonderful addition to the mall, and now we found the one in the Yorktown Mall. This Yorktown Von Maur is even bigger than the Orland Park location, and it is a winner. The Von Maur stores are reminiscent of the old Marshall Fields outlets, where you generally received wonderful service and the merchandise selection was a knockout. I think what makes the difference with the Von Maurs compared to other general merchandise stores are the buyers. The Von Maur buyers really have it down, and they seem to buy just what is in fashion and coming to the forefront. So if you want to look at clothes and jewelry and purses and other merchandise that has been chosen by knowledgeable buyers, go to a Von Maur store. The selection is excellent, it turns over quickly so you can visit more often, and you can shop in a nice store with wide aisles where they don't try to cram everything in the racks. First time shopping at Von Maur and honestly what the employee did just left a very bad taste in my mouth and can't say if I would shop Von Maur in the future. I had purchased a pair of men's slacks including alterations. Well less then 24 hours later the plans changed and I no longer needed the slacks. Arrived at the store to return them and was greeted by the Employee (Mark) who sold me the slacks and he started the return. During he asked for my debit card I purchased them with to do the return. After playing around making it look like he was doing the return he turns to me and says because I used a debit card he can't return the payment to it he would have to return it to a Von Maur gift card which he said expires in 3 months. Not wanting to argue with him I ended up going to customer service and talked to a manager (Sarah) who took the gift card and my debit card and had it done in about 30 seconds and also told me the gift card Never expires. With the employee lying to me not once but twice because he didn't want to loose a sale is very Rude and honestly very disrespectful and leaves a terrible taste in my mouth about the whole store to the point I don't know if I will ever shop Von Maur again. read more

I used to love Von Maur when I lived in the Chicagoland area. I moved out of state and still am a loyal shopper here. There have been times I have bought final sale items and they don't work or don't fit so I then have to put them on a 3rd part sales site (never resulting in revenue, just trying to recoop my loss). I basically received a threatening letter about this and laughed. Apparently, whatever you buy here, you better fit in it and better keep it otherwise you need to eat the loss. I also HATE their return system. If you don't use the label on your packing slip (you only get one) they will no longer provide any extras. It's 2024 - make a return option on your website so we can print labels and return this way. This is a family owned company so I expect a lot better in terms of customer retention and service. I have bought so many gifts here and referred so many people - and no longer will be doing so. read more

Came in to grab a present for my moms birthday coming up. This is her favorite department store and carries her favorite jewelry brand Brighton, so it's always the perfect place to go! Headed right to the jewelry section which actually had changed since the last time I've been here. It was right by the main grand piano on the middle floor. The jewelry brands were labeled nicely in glass display cabinets which made it easy to find the brand I was looking for. A sales associate noticed I was peaking at the bracelets and kindly asked if I needed any help. She suggested some earnings to pair and I ended up snagging some! Both were under $100! She reminded me about the complimentary gift wrap on the 3rd floor and you better believe I took advantage of that! It took 5 minutes for them to wrap my gift and they even let me pick out the paper and ribbon color :) All I had to do was give them my number and they texted me when it was done. I love this store! Don't let the piano player in the middle of the store scare you off. They have some really high quality, affordable stuff here! I go straight to the sales rack as they have new stuff added weekly. It's like Nordstrom but better! The store is very organized and clean. If you have a Von Mar card there's NO interest! You just have to pay the minimum! They also have a program that if you spend over $500 in one shopping spree then you can get set up with a 12 month contract of $50 minimum payment to pay off your purchases. Think about Christmas shopping! Every staff member I've encountered were VERY nice and helpful. I now have a "go to gal" named Lucy! I LIKE her a lot that we go to her to ring up our purchases when she's there. They also have free gift wrapping, free alteration, and free shipping too! And if you have your original receipt or gift receipt, you can return/exchange your purchase even if it's a year old! If you're not happy, then they will do whatever they can to make you happy. I had an issue with my coach watch battery, that they sent it out to have it fixed once and still defect. They said let's just replace it for a NEW one, what a new one? Sure! Yes I have a new coach watch! I even exchanged nylons with runs in them! I would go back here for myself, gifts for others and free gift wrapping too! read more

Customer service was not helpful at all. I bought an item with a tag that had one price on it and they charged me a completely different price. I went to customer service and all they told me is that the tag has the wrong price, yet the same price was written on all of the tags. I came to Von Maur to search for a dress for my engagement photo shoot coming up. I'm very happy with their dress selection. I think I'm must have tried on at least 15. As a size 14, that's amazing I even had that many options. Mary is the employee who helped me. She was very sweet and started a fitting room for me so I wouldn't have to hold all of my selections. She checked on me twice when I was in the fitting room, since I was probably in there for a good 45 minutes debating between 2 dresses. After I couldn't decide between the 2, I asked what my total would be with both. It was definitely more pricey than what I would normally buy. But you get what you pay for right? That's when I was told about their credit card, which is interest free... forever! I cant even comprehend that. I guess I'm not used to having interest free cards . I decided to open the card so I can be happy and choose both dresses and slowly pay off my damage. All in all, a wonderful store for quality dresses with great employees. Besides the free gift wrap, I'm just not a fan. It just seems like such an old people store. I mean, I shopped here in high school but at 25, there really isn't much here for me. The prices aren't great, the shoe section is meh, the dressing rooms are ALWAYS a mess, and a lot of the time, you can't get a shoe dept employees attention to save your life. PS- don't even bother with the jewelry section. This place is absolutely amazing. A live pianist during normal business hours. Great prices, selection, attentive service, free gift boxes and free gift wrap puts them notches above the other major department stores IMHO. The sales associates are great about locating an item or size at other locations. Shipping is also always free and includes the sweetest handwritten note on Von Maur stationary penned by the associate who processed the sale. How sweet is that? I love Von Maur....I mean, I really love Von Maur. They cater to all shapes and sizes. Granted they can be VERY expensive, but if you spend the time looking, you can find some great deals on the clearance racks. They are not the most obvious racks to locate, but they do exist. For example, the women's clearance racks are right outside the fitting rooms in the women's department. I believe this is the same for other departments. Check outside the fitting rooms for the best deals. The customer service is always top notch and the people that have helped me in months and years past have always been more than accommodating. You can pretty much tell them what you are looking for and they will spend the time shopping with you. I have found a lot of evening wear here at very reasonable prices. For example, you can find a beautiful gown originally priced at $250 to $350 and they sometimes mark these things down to $40 to $50!! Ladies, you gotta check it out. I was also here for a strapless bra for a bridesmaids dress last Fall. The women in this department will measure you and find you exactly what you need. They are very helpful and know what they are doing (at least they seem to). They really make you feel very comfortable and that helps along the process of shopping for this type of clothing. When you have completed your purchase, they always nicely fold and wrap your clothing in tissue paper as to avoid any dirt from getting on the clothes while you complete your shopping trip. They offer free gift wrapping and have a very elegant selection year round. I purchased a shirt here in July for both an upcoming vacation and my birthday dinner. It was like the cutest top I have ever owned. I washed it according to the instructions on the label and it "died", so I took it back to the store while it was actually still wet---I was not about to put that in the dryer---and they accepted the return without too much fuss. I had literally worn it once, followed the care instructions and it fell apart. Not VM's fault, but they took responsibility and refunded my money. Great customer service, Von Maur!! VM also offers an interest free credit card, but take note, you will be required to make minimum payments. They are great for finding shoes of a certain style/type/color and will help you with finding exactly what you need. If they don't have your size, they will order them and ship them to your home for free. You will find that you get what you pay for here....quality. From the cleanliness of the store, to the customer service, to the clean washrooms, this is probably my favorite store in any mall in any town I have ever visited. Did I mention the piano player in the center of the store where all the old folks come to kick back? They are adorable and I love music played on a Grand Piano! Went here to look for a nice dress and shoes for a formal event and I was just glad that I chose to go in here. Racks are full and there is a lot of dresses to choose from in different design and colors. The sales staff was also friendly and helpful who assist me and even helped me on choosing a dress. I've been here for a few times and I notice that their staff are always like that. They are welcoming and helpful. I decided to buy the nice black dress which is a bit expensive but for good quality dress it is totally worth it. Then, I switch to the shoe selection and just like the dress selectin it has a nice selection. I can't quite place my finger on it, but this store seems dated. (Another reviewer hit it by saying that it seems like an "old people's store".) I came because they carry a brand of jeans I needed, but they had them in several areas (I will never understand this), and the older lady staff members who talked to me weren't the most forthcoming (the woman who checked me out did warm up, though she initially forgot to give me my receipt until I walked off...) Maybe I just don't look like "their" customer (I'm younger and since it was 90+° out I was dressed very casually, but hey, I still bought a pair of $100 jeans, so don't judge), but this is why I tend to stay away from department stores. I almost mixed up the "women's lounge" and dressing rooms when I went to try things on (the latter is somehow less prominent?) So that was a little confusing. One interesting trivial thing about this Von Maur: there is a cemetery in the parking lot! On the south end of the lot facing Butterfield Rd. there is a fenced-in space with trees; look closely and you will see headstones! This was part of a family's farmland that was sold to the mall, but rather than move the graves the Boeger-Brinkman Cemetery was fenced off. Overall, I know I can find my brand of jeans here, but I am more likely to go to Macy's or Penneys if I need a department store. read more

Came here yesterday looking to buy uggs & they only had a select few in stock-- then why were there 25 different types displayed if you don't have them? The guy helping us seemed incredibly distracted and uninterested in helping, he treated us like low class while treated others so much better. we are incredibly disappointed and dissatisfied. When i told the guy that i was interested in buying these specific uggs he just shut me down and said 'i only have those in a 5,' and didn't offer to order them for me or anything. then when i did decide to purchase uggs, i asked for the spray and he sharply said they didn't have any!! ok so what do you have then ??? won't be back to this location, might not even be a customer at another location, very sad. read more

Some of the cattiest and rudest employees I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The Yorktown Mall is advertised as being "dog friendly," which apparently no longer applies to Von Maur. Usually when I enter the mall, I walk through Von Maur. I am a dog trainer and I love taking my clients with me to work on impulse control and proper manners around strangers. We were calmly walking through Von Maur, when I was berated by several employees telling me dogs aren't allowed and I needed to leave immediately. This is a new rule, as I have had dozens of clients in and out of Von Maur in the past year with zero issues. Even had ladies at the makeup counter petting my dogs and just adoring them. There was a spot on the floor NOT from my dogs, and they blamed me and told me that my dogs were vandalizing the property. This was not true, and I politely asked them to pull up the security footage of my dogs urinating there so they could prove it since I knew it was not them. They couldn't provide me proof. They were so rude and berated me until I left. Needless to say, I will never be returning to this store even just to pass through (with or without dogs.)
