I am writing to formally report a very distressing experience I had today at your Oakbrook Macy's location. I initially came into the store to return a pair of shoes, which went smoothly. While in the store, I decided to purchase a men's cologne as a birthday gift for my fiancé. When I proceeded to check out, I asked the associate to look up my Macy's credit card account, as I typically do. My transaction was declined, and I was told it was due to an issue with my identification. I explained that I recently upgraded to a Real ID and was issued a temporary paper ID by the DMV, which is valid and contains the same information as my previous ID. Instead of receiving assistance in resolving the issue: * I was told I had to call customer service myself. * I spent approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes on the phone trying to resolve the issue while standing in the store. * The transaction was retried but declined again. * I felt a lack of support and empathy during the process. This situation became extremely embarrassing, as I was left standing at the register for an extended period. I felt as though other customers and staff were watching and judging the situation, which made me feel uncomfortable and humiliated. While one associate eventually attempted to help by suggesting another call, the overall experience lacked proper customer care, discretion, and support. I am requesting: 1. A review of how situations like this are handled in-store. 2. Additional training for staff on assisting customers with credit card issues. 3. Better coordination between store associates and credit services to avoid placing the burden entirely on the customer. 4. Follow-up regarding how this situation will be improved moving forward. My wife went to customer service with 2 gift cards totalling 225 dollars. She was unable to purchase online with the gift cards. We went to customer service at Oakbrook and they were great. 40 mins later my wife ended up on the phone with customer service elsewhere. THEY WOULDN'T ALLOW HER TO PURCHASE ANYTHING ONLINE!! She was told they are "limiting" her online purchase power... WTF, nobody at Oakbrook customer service ever heard of such a thing!!! My guess, she doesn't carry a balance on purchases so they lose out in their finance charges. I was tasked to find perfume. I think the exact words were "perfume that smells really good" for a christmas gift. I'm not the biggest shopper, especially at Christmas. I also must mention that i'm still a Marshall Field's fan, but I don't know a store that has more perfume than Macy's. So to Macy's I went. I was great immediately. When I say immediately, I mean once both of my feet were in the store. I've been in quite a few stores this holiday season and this was the first time and only time I've been greeted and helped this fast. I actually felt compelled to purchase something because it felt like a treat and the meer superelative customer service deserved a purchase as tribute. Ok, back to my search for the really good smelling perfume. The salesperson was actually selling skincare products but she took time to help me on my search by offering some personal choices for me to smell. After 6 choices, I think I finally found the one. Now, I wanted to find a set, so I can get some value for the overpriced "really good smelling" perfume. I was in luck, they had a set with a mobile vaporizer for th purse. Excellent. Since, she was so helpful, I allowed her to sell me on some of her skincare products. She also had products specifically for men, so I bought some. Very nice store, very clean and well lit, with very friendly employees at the perfume section as I was browsing for a gift. Then I went to the Starbucks by the furniture section. Two Starbucks employees were working quickly and efficiently to serve a constant flow of customers during a morning rush. My visit here cut short by an unexpected matter that I had to handle but I will come back to purchase some perfume for a lady friend. read more

So I bought these 16k or 18k white gold earrings from the Macy's fine jewelry department at the Water Tower location 6-10 years ago. The associate that sold me these earrings, without me asking, let's me know that i have two free cleanings per year (which I have never used), and that if I ever lose the backing to my earring, I can come in for a free replacement. The gentlemen here had no idea about this, and I had no idea that they would be shocked to hear such a thing. I can dig it if policies change, but waiting for service, to be told something doesn't exist without checking (by calling) with the Macy's at Water Tower Place. If, by chance, this is supposed to be the distinguished and posh feel section of the departments in Macy's, then I feel that the representation for Macy's should try a little harder to resolve a customer issue, and even more, when there was a guarantee made. Franklin in the tuxedo department measured his neck incorrectly. Now I'm trying to call and there is no one answering the phone at any extension I dial to verify if they have the correct size. Online order process is terrible. Not worth the "Free" shipping. I ordered an item and 2 days later received email saying Item has shipped. The tracking was for USPS and upon tracking through USPS stated That they were informed to expect package and update would be available once received. 5 days later still same texted Macy's and they said they see that too but I should wait one more day before any further action because the expected receiving date is tomorrow. I went to the store to exchange a coat we bought online for a bigger size. I first went to the section where the coats are to get the right size with the expectation of taking it to the counter to do the even exchange, but the size I needed wasn't on the floor. I go to the counter for returns simply to ask if they could check the system for the size I needed so I can do the exchange, and Barb was of no help. I don't know if her braids were too tight or her glasses were causing her to have a migraine, but her customer service towards me was not helpful at all. I just don't understand why people come to work with bad attitudes, especially during the holiday season. Barb did not want to check the system for whatever reason so I opted to go back to that section to find an associate to check the system. Gio, Skyler, and Pedro were awesome and helped me find the coat in the store. The exchange was super simple. They had great energy, smiled, and helped me in under 7 minutes. read more

Never ever in all the decades my family has shopped at this Macy's store, ( previously Marshall Fields) have I ever had such unprofessionalism. Men's department. Checked out asking for gift receipts.... Most obvious this time is year, but made sure to verbalize. Young man, quiet but replied understanding. Scans everything and hands me the receipt, no gift receipts. Forgot? Ok that happens. Unfortunately when he scanned the receipt it wouldn't let him back in? He did not explain, but just said he has to go find a supervisor. Okay here it comes dot dot .... He doesn't comes back for over 25 mins! Huh? What you say? Yeah, he leaves me stranded while he goes to look for a supervisor. In the meantime, his co workers try to track him down. They find him twice, but he refuses to come back. Huh? What you say? If he came back and voided the sale, all would've been well. However, another co- worker returned it all and I repurchased it. However, the lovely credit card company said no, no, this is fraud. Set me a link and I cleared it that it was really me. Then I had to talk to someone on the phone. She proceeded to tell me that my cell phone number was not the correct number on the account, and therefore she could not send me the code to clear my name and to make the transition on my macy's card. Not only that, it will be suspended for days and I will have to wait for a letter in the mail to call them to clear my name. I gave her the number that was on the account which was my home phone.Which of course she could not send a code to. And then voila, the young man first salesperson shows up and just stands there. No apology no explanation. Wrong in so many ways. 1. This young man needs to be trained better, which I told the supervisor once he finally showed up. 2. It looks like they need to upgrade their computer. 3, They need to figure out a better way once on the phone with the credit people to still confirm that you are the same person, even if the phone number is the landline. I got the confirmation on my cell to confirm it wasn't fraudulent. Why can't people use their brains and compare the information they've gotten. I should leave the store in tears seriously, and wasted time.? Also I now have to wait days before my credit card is unfrozen during the busiest time of year, when you need it? Thank god for online shopping! I usually do that, from this company . This time have a wedding to go to, we went there for obvious reasons. Mens dept. was professional and helpful got the suit perfectly fitted 1 man is all they had and he definitely did all he could. We were happy with our purchase. The women's dept. oh lord forget it, angry attitudes and many that could barely understand English. Extremely understaffed. They dont have no way in the shoe dept to measure your feet they said try on shoes they are not allowed to give any devices or touch you at all, I am fine with not touching me, I am not fine with not even having a ruler, to see if my shoe size is different for differnt shoes. Tried to call then for 2 weeks before we went they never answered their phone at all in ANY dept. I can prove that. We ended up speaking to someone in Ohio they even tried and didn't either . The shopping experience at Macy's was awesome. Easy to find items I wanted. Pleasant customer service. Lots of sanitizing stations. Very spacious and not crowded! Yes the prices may seem high at first but there are a lot of deals and discounts that take place during various parts of the year. The seasonal sales also give a strop price cut. The associates here are generally pleasant and helpful, and there's something in the store for everyone. But, on my opinion, it would be easier to shop if they kept like with like so that, for example, all men's outerwear were in one place rather than spread across 3 different floors and grouped by brand and displayed mixed in with other types of clothing (shirts, v etc). read more

Macy's Oakbrook is by far my favorite Macy's to shop at. The staff is always extremely professional and polite. The store is always extremely well kept and cleaned at all times. And the wide selection of domestic and international brands is excellent. Macy's in general has great sales! The prices for all of their items range from high to low but always have great quality and selection to choose from. You can even download an app that has a built-in scanner to find out the price. Macy's Oakbrook store is always the first place I visit while visiting oak brook Mall. Great job Macy's. read more

Store is clean, and cashiers are cleaning between customers. I was impressed with efforts of store management to make store walk ways wide enough to allow for social distancing. Great help for men hunting for gifts at make up counters. I showed pictures on my phone to sales woman and she guides me to the products, and gift set up sell that was more products for less cost than individual items. Of course I had to get Frango mints. Yes I even got signed up for credit card, to get 20% ,off the sale price. There's always a sale and you're able to find great things in all sizes. All staff are very generous in helping you find what you need for any occasion or if you're looking for a particular item and can't find it on your own. This location is great because you're right in river north next to other stores and eating options. read more

I love ordering online and picking up at this Macy's location. Super easy and usually a great experience. Due to a knee injury I opted to use the curbside pickup option for the first time. I arrived in the parking garage to find all spots taken by PARKED cars! Not a single person waiting for curbside delivery. What is the point of offering this option if there are no spots available? Not sure what you can do to enforce this but something should be done for your loyal customers. Next time I will block someone in their spot waiting for my pickup. read more

I had a couple of gift items to return/exchange and things started off well; the return counter was well staffed and the person who helped me was friendly and efficient. I left with a credit for the amount of the items on a card and thought I'd be able to quickly find a couple of replacement items. I was hoping to get a couple of sweaters to wear to work, but found they had almost nothing other than sweatshirts in my size. Many racks had a confusing mix of items (eg pants, tops and skirts all together) with sizes all mixed together. I expect this at a discount store, but was surprised to see this here. I finally found one sweater in my size and bought that. I thought I'd use the remaining balance on some food treats like Frango mints, but all they had left were the less popular flavors. Yes, I know it's the week after Christmas, but the whole food section is much less interesting than it was back in the Marshall Fields days. The store also appeared somewhat run down. Multiple escalators were out and the floors and walls are showing wear. I gave the card with remaining balance to a family member who lives nearby and shops here. read more

"White Glove" mattress delivery. Two delivery people today brought 2 items we didn't order, and refused to take away a mattress even though we paid to have it removed. They were rude and obviously not interested in delivering customer service. I'm sorry if you guys hate your job - don't take it out on your customers. Thankfully somehow the queen mattress was delivered. But if I didn't direct them properly they would have dumped the new mattress in the room, not properly on the platform bed frame. I was ready to tip them for just bringing basic customer service. Within 5 minutes I couldn't wait for them to get off my property. Total jerks. Came here to get a new suit. They had a pretty decent selection and sizes for each suit although some styles still did not have my size (I'm a pretty middle of the road fit). The lady we spoke with mostly was friendly and helpful however a couple other employees we came across throughout our time in the store seemed fairly unapproachable (such as the lady I asked where the bathrooms were). Biggest complaint is there are TONS of pins on the floor in the dressing room. This is my biggest pet peeve of trying on clothes because I don't feel like getting a pin in my foot - go figure. And this place had at least double the amount of pins on the floor than any other store I've been to. 5 stars to the lady that helped me and the selection of suits compared to other department stores. 2 stars for the other employees and the amount of pins on the floor in the changing rooms. read more

It just seems like we start go to visit the specific brand name stores instead of these kind of stores. It seems like we are all moving to more specialty stores. It's a one of a kind store that will have your furniture, clothes, and stores that you want. Just like how they keep everything clean and organized. Stores like this are why Amazon has destroyed retail. Went into Macys OB mid-December to buy Momma Mongoose a special Christmas trinket. The initial purchase was fairly straight forward, pleasant salesperson, they had the ring we wanted but it needed to be sized larger. After a few weeks with zero communication we attempted to call the store. Here is where it goes sideways. There is no way on earth to call the Fine Jewelry section at the store. There is no way to call any number at the store. They are either off the hook or just go to vmail. This is now mid January. We went into the store in mid december, bought a $9000 ring, somehow got conned into opening a Macys account and what they call a Macys Amex Card. It is not an real Amex card, it is a bank credit card with the Amex logo on it. Started calling the main store number for management and leaving vmails wherever we could find a machine. Again, no humans pick the phone up. Finally after carpet bombing the stores vmail system and calling Corporate in NYC we get a call from the store that the resizing will cost extra because of the additional gold required to finish the job. and it should be back in the store Valentine's Day. They ship all repairs and customs to California and you now, the 'rona, makes it take longer. Finally go pick the ring up, asked to sign an agreement that the repairs (!?!) are satisfactory and we accept delivery of item. Hadn't even seen the ring yet. It looked fine, albeit in rose gold, but at this point give us the damn ring. We have already paid off the credit package they upsold us. Gave us the ring in a plastic bag, not even a box. I'm not really a fan of makeup. But I saw that Macy's Estee Lauder was having a dramatize your eyes event in Oak Brook and I was quite interested in learning how to apply eye makeup. I never did like to wear any types of eyeshadows, mascara or lashes. I already have Big Eyes so I didn't want to add any extra boldness to my eyes. I'm so very happy that I followed my mind on yesterday and came out to this event. I had such a great time with these ladies. Very Professional and made sure that my look was fit just for me. I like natural neutral colors and Kayla & Tamia gave me a look that I adored. I was super happy with the finishing touches. Awesome Team. Made sure you were comfort and happy with your look. After you were done getting your face beat and taking selfies with the team. With a purchase you were giving a nice pretty swag bag with a bunch of goodies. Honestly, I only went in here to use the bathroom while shopping at the mall. First of all, the bathroom was extremely difficult to find without any obvious signs leading to way. When I asked employees for assistance, they gave my directions, but no one offered to lead me closer by walking with me. When I finally reached the bathroom, the smell from an overfilled toilet was so bad that I didn't even bother using the bathroom. The floors were filthy, the stench from feces, urine, and toilet water was so awful. I was shocked at the conditions of this bathroom and really hope Macy's prioritizes cleaning regularly to provide a healthy and safe bathroom. read more

Just came out if Macy's I was with someone that had a walker. The elevator wasn't working, so even with a walker, we had to use the escalator. The escalator was also not working and we had to carry the walker down the escalator. Definitely not handicapped accessible!!! read more
