This is the only place worth going to at Southland mall.. to me it is the safest store and really close to the exit out of the mall. so when you hear those gunshots you will be able to get away as fast as you can haha. all jokes aside. they have an alright selection of goodies although I do find this particular Macy's really unorganized. If you know what you want and are positive it is at this Macy's then you should get in, get it, and get out. no need to spend more time in this store or even this mall for safety and survival reasons haha. read more

This is only for the home department on the third floor. Overall, there is some good quality items up there. I have bought bedding and cookware on the third floor. The size of the section is a little bit smaller compared to San Francisco and Valley Fair. However, if one is looking for the sale items, they are usually around. Just be aware of the markups that Macy's can give to items to make it look like a steal. read more

Macy's doesn't carry Le Sport Sac anymore? I haven't been to Macy's in a long time and I haven't been to this location in a long time. They definately are not plus-sized friendly, and the clothes they do carry are like "your fat so where this. why should you care what you look like?" Everything i picked up I hated it. The accessories on the women's floor were falling apart in my hands. But the accessories on the first floor were the truth, but pricey. I felt like I was being assaulted with smells from eager perfume counter workers. Good thing thought because I did buy a bottle. I won't be returning to this site. read more

Not my favorite Macys since a lot of the employees are not very nice. Especially today with the big sale everyone and their mama was rude and pushy. The complaint i have is the shoe dept. I needed a shoe size and she just gave me the shoe ok...i need both shoes not one. I was gona purchase them but she just gave me the shoes with no box. Anyways she finally got the box but she gave me slight attitude and wasnt very friendly. The place was a mess and there was only 2 people working this evening. My regular Pleasanton mall didn't have my size 9 1/2. When I asked the cashier if she can look up what store had them and she said Southland Mall both my friend and I looked at each other with that "eye". And we both said...Yikes...the ghetto mall. Not too much of a fan of this mall and only go here because of Macy's. The shoe department has very nice staff, which is a lot to say compared to most shoe departments. If you need a Coach brand shoe, I can almost guarantee they will have your size here. This store had 9 in stock compared to practically none around the Bay Area. This has happened on quite a few occasions even though the actual size of the department looks rather small, don't be fooled. They do have a small fine jewelry department and lingerie department, good sized Mens, Womens, Juniors and kids. There wasn't a mess which was very surprising. The parking lot is huge so parking isn' t an issue-- I found 3 entrances all of which are next to parking. read more

Macys as a corporation is like 3 or 4 stars. This store, is also just as average. My favorite sections is the shoe section (I just found some steve madden shoes on their last mark down before being shipped out for $80!), the home and appliance, and the mac counters. Other than that, their layout is average but dated and their clothes, I have never been a fan of. I go here for some high quality home decor, my necessary makeup needs and to go on a shoe splurge. read more

Even stuff off the other racks is nicely sorted, organized, and the fitting rooms are relatively well-kept. I walked through there this weekend and the girls had their music BLASTING (didn't even sound clear), and they were dancing in front of the counter like they were at a house party. Ive tried MAC, bare essencials, bare minerals, armani, chanel, lancome, benefit, blah blah blah..and so far prescriptives has been the BEST! ive always had acne problems (the T ZONE) and this has been the remedy. The make up is not too cakey which is my biggest concern. Ive recently gotten compliments on my skin by my friends and fam and even strangers. I looooooveeee the makeup here. Poor service. My wife and I bought a set of Dublin platinum glasses and we open one box and all 4 glasses where in the box . So we decided to get another box that was closed seal next to the one we open . Unfortunately when we got home @ 915 my wife open the box and one of the glasses was missing . So I told her we can do the exchange the next day but that I will call Macy's so they know what happened. When I called the answering machine said that they were open until 10 pm today so I grab my keys and left my house at 9:30 pm I live in Newark 15 min away I told my wife that they were open until 10 pm so I took the boxes and I got in my car and drove 12 miles away . I got to Macy's in Hayward @ 9:55 pm and the doors that are next to hometown buffet were open so I when in and 5 Macy's employees including a supervisor were standing up next to one of the man department customer service center and the apperently the one that look like a manager told me that they were closed and they all (Asian) look at me like I was stupid and I told the guy that it was 9:56 pm and I just needed to get a glass that was missing from the box I just bought at 8:30pm today and he told me sorry we closed at 10pm and I told him is not 10 pm is 9:56 pm than he told me to comeback tomorrow . Now I do going to go by ratings because this Macy's have a bad rating if I would have seen it before I would have thought about doing business with this store before I spent $100 on 8 glasses . We just now left Macy's feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. First we went to the shoe department where we tried to exchange the shoes for a different size with the receipt and an employee said we didn't carry the shoes l and as I put the shoes back in to my bag, Indian lady in the register with glasses demanded me to pay for the shoes that I brought to exchange. She made me feel very uncomfortable to the point where I didn't wanna shop anymore. Next we went up to the men's department where I went to look at Hudson clothes. As two Latin lost prevention men stood behind us and stared us making us feel very uncomfortable. After my purchase I walk out the exit the security guard walks walks behind us like we where going to steal something. This review is for Impulse beauty. How bad is Impulse Beauty at Macy's Southland? Let me count the ways: 1. I had put an item on hold and asked the girl at the Impulse counter about it. She was too busy writing something and working on stock to be bothered. Once I got her attention, she cut me off before I could finish. She told me she wouldn't help me because she worked for Benefit. All I asked was to check if the item on hold was there. Does it really matter if you work for Benefit when you're already behind the Impulse counter? I might as well have checked myself because I could visually see some products on the counter. She went on to complain with another coworker about sales. With her poor customer service, it makes sense if your sales aren't doing so well. 2. The actual girl who was working in Impulse didn't seem knowledgeable. She passed by me several times before asking if I needed help. Given, I didn't need her help but a greeting would be nice. She asked a coworker from Finish Line about her lipgloss and took time to try it on instead. 3. The careless staff that didn't seem to know/offer much info about their products left me hesitant to come back. I was so bothered about this experience that I called the cosmetics manager. She assured me that this isn't how they normally run the department and offered me a makeup consultation. I declined but wanted to make sure that these workers were spoken to. The good thing is that they were pretty stocked up on Anastasia lip products which have been hard to find lately. If I can find what I need somewhere else, I'd avoid purchasing here even though this location is close to me. The girls at Urban Decay and MAC are helpful and knowledgeable. The girls at Benefit and Impulse need to learn a thing or two from them about customer service. read more

I have to say i do not normally go to Macy's. I think they are overpriced. But sometimes I do and usually it is associated with a sale. So during Black Friday weekend I went here to find a blue shirt for our family pictures. I had already been to 4 places and was disappointed. I figured I would pay a bit more but find what I wanted at Macy's. And that was the case. The first blue shirt I found I liked and put it over my arm while I walked around looking at plan B and plan C shirts. When i tried it on it was PERFECT!! I could not ask for better. I bought the shirt and found out the $50 shirt was actually on sale for $30. Double bonus. If you find yourself unable to find the right shirt at other stores, Macy's may be where that shirt you want is located. read more

This Macy's doesn't not seem busy during the week. At least not the various times I've walked in. The only areas that seem to have traffic are the Makeup areas. This Macy's has a big Impulse store in the middle near jewelry with lots of cool products and sales. The women's department on the 2nd floor always seems dead. Like I could probably hear crickets. This also goes for the Household Dept. You have to wait to find someone to help ring you up. As far as the clothing options they aren't many at all. I avoid this Macys to do any shopping because their selection is awful. I don't think there has even been a time I actually purchased anything here other than skillets and knives. Men selection is a little bit better but good luck finding anything as it is really scattered and usually messy. Verdict: If you are last minute shopping and desperately need something here other than make up or jewelry then I would suggest another mall. read more

My cousin and I always come here to shop and haven't had a bad experience before. A couple of weeks ago I bought a $75 gift card at Macy's Sunvalley (for my mom's friend's daughter who is from the Philippines). My mom ended up not giving it to her because she had already left CA. Luckily I kept the original receipt and also paid cash. My cousin, who is a Macys card holder, has told me that she has dome this before. Today at work, I called both Sunvalley and Southland to make sure I could return the unused gift card. When I got to the cashier dept in the young men's section, Shikenyah (not sure of the exact spelling of her name) already gave my cousin and I an attitude for wanting to return a gift card. She complained about having to call the manager and said that she was right and knew we couldn't do it. I asked to speak to the manager myself. She called the manager back, and and then said, oh, "we had to call the actual store manager who is in Hawaii. You're lucky she said yes." So you're telling me, within that 5 mins you called and were able to reach the manager in Hawaii? I don't Shikenyah was even on the phone with anyone in the first place. Once she completed my transaction return, I proceeded to another cashier department to ask about their policy, and she followed me and my cousin to that station. Why? Because she probably wanted to make a point she was right. Both my cousin and I have worked in retail for over 5 years (Victoria secret and Express) and know for a fact that this can be done, as long as the original receipt is present. read more

This review is strictly for the Impulse Beauty section. Last time I came here was a couple months and finally came back today to look for face primer. This Impulse section has expanded! I remember it used to be a small section but they added more!! I was like, "Woww, Tarte, Urban Decay, Anastasia BH, and a whole wall for Smashbox + more!" I was immediately greeted by a lady named Lisa and told her what I was looking for and that I had dry skin. She showed me various options, such as the Smashbox photo finish primer and the Tarte 12 hour primer. I opted for the travel sized Smashbox primer to try it out and see how I like it. Lisa was super informational and offered different products but didn't push me to buy anything which was great! She also KNEW I needed a facial and scheduled me for one, moving around her schedule just so she could do it for me herself. I was amazed with the customer service! I remember when Macy's was.a high end retail store. Alas, no more. I was shopping for a dress for a holiday event and went to Macy's thinking they would have the best selection, the most current fashions and sales associates to help me. I was wrong on all 3 counts. The place was disorganized, had a bargain basement feel and I was there for over an hour and didn't see a single sales associate on the floor. The changing rooms were unattended and there were piles of clothing in each stall and large racks of clothing outside the dressing area. I left in disgust and went to JC Penny and Kohl's where there were still no sales associates on the floor, but the stores were clean, organized and I could find items I needed in my size. Note to retailers: I believe if you will provide customer service, you can increase sales, build customer loyalty and help our national economy. People need jobs! Hire enough staff to operate your business effectively. read more
