I've been coming to this Macy's for years now. However, If you were to ask me what side of the mall it is located, I'd have no idea! I just google map my way here. There is a parking garage conveniently located at one entrance (maybe more...) of the store. This store has changed a lot compared to 10..20 years ago. There are fewer customer service desks on each level, making it harder to find someone to ask questions to or just to check out. There are some employees on the floor putting clothes away, but are still hard to find. They still carry the same variety of items ranging from perfume/cologne, clothes, shoes, luggage, etc. I personally found it hard to find what I was looking for, but that could also be because I haven't been there in a while. read more

1 STAR - MACY'S IS A COMPLETE JOKE I don't know why I expected competence, honesty, or even basic human decency from Macy's, but here I am, weeks later, still waiting for a package that was supposedly shipped but never actually left the store. I placed a large, expensive online order, and according to Macy's, it was "shipped" the next day. Except... it wasn't. After over a week of zero tracking updates, I contacted customer service--only to be met with a dismissive, unhelpful, 'not our problem' attitude. They told me to reach out to USPS, because obviously, it couldn't possibly be Macy's fault that they took my money and failed to deliver. Well, guess what? USPS confirmed they never even received the package. So I call Macy's back--this time, they suddenly claim it actually shipped three to four days after my first inquiry. Already suspicious, I'm told to wait until the 7th. When the 7th comes and still no package, they push me to wait until the 10th. When I call on the 10th, they say, "Oh, just give us 24 more hours before we'll even consider fixing the problem." Excuse me?! At this point, it has been over two weeks, and Macy's has done nothing but LIE, STALL, and DEFLECT BLAME. The Fair Oaks store has failed to fulfill my order, and corporate refuses to do a damn thing about it. Instead, they just keep feeding me scripted nonsense while holding my money hostage. Let me be crystal clear: Macy's does NOT care about its customers. They do not care about honesty, accountability, or actually delivering the products they sell. They only care about making you jump through hoops until you give up. This company is a disgrace. DO NOT SHOP HERE unless you enjoy being gaslit, ignored, and robbed. read more

Macys is definitely having a hard time, finding enough staff to work. I'm not just saying it's them, as plenty of other retailers in the same boat. When you find an item here, finding someone to ring you up can be challenging. Also I find other area Macys to have more stock. That's more likely than not, because I go to ones at larger malls. Their hours are becoming late, as this and other stores open at 10 am. There are lots of reasons to shop here. Personally I like to go the online route. As a guy I am not really into crowds, and find I can get all on the net easier. Free delivery to the house works! As a cologne enthusiast, great employees in this department. Also I tip my cap to the folks in the suits/dress clothes section. They are very knowledgeable, and have helped this cave man's style considerably. read more

Just purchased koolaburra uggs boots for my wife from this Macy's and the large hispanic man with curly hair is extremely rude at 6:47pm on wednesday 11/15/23. They have the boots at $109.99... the Koolaburra website has them at $99.99 free shipping. I asked do they price match the actual site that makes the boots. He said no only the macys website. .. how you gonna be more expensive than the brand that makes the boots. Ridiculous. Its not about $10 but thats so stupid to price it more than the creators. Came here to buy undershirts and a new wallet. The men's department is in the very far back of the store like an after thought. The walk was very long to just get there. The selection of undershirts was very low and there were many slots empty The service to checkout was poor as we kept having to search for someone to check us out. Finally 71447592 0049 checked us out. I asked why we did not get the discount of 25% off as advertised and he said I had to be a member of the Macy's card. The last thing I need is another card in this environment so I declined. He then kept pushing for me to join Macy's cause he could give me 50% off. We declined but I think your advertisement to offer discounts is false advertising forcing me into a card I do not want. Will not shop here again for awhile. read more

Came here on 12/14 at 10am to make a return. I had my yorkie in my hand, as everywhere you read online "macy is one of the most dog friendly store." A senior woman came to me and yelled across the hallway "is that a dog? What kind of dog?" I said "yes a yorkie" she got closer and sternly said "no dog allowed at all in the entire store." I asked if she could make a return for me real quick so I could head out right away, she said "I don't work here" and walked away. She had tons of merchandise with her, so I assume she was referring to her not working for the department. A lady at the cosmetic counter was kind enough to make a return and when I asked about dog policy she said she sees people bringing their dogs in all the time. Now I'm not sure if it's just an angry customer who doesn't like dogs or a Macy's staff... either way, not a really good experience overall for my first Macy's visit at this particular location. read more

Since I couldn't find it, she refused to tell me where it was and told me to go to the other Macy's because they have more. This is one of the nicer Macy's in Northern Virginia. It's large, with several levels of shopping. They offer a wide selection of merchandise with more of their higher end lines. The online order pickup is conveniently placed near the parking entrance by the open lot (NOT the parking garage side). As is usual these days, there aren't a lot of staff on hand, so I had to go looking for assistance. However, once I finally found someone they were happy to help and able to answer all of my questions. I did pickup an online order as well, and customer service was very efficient and courteous. I had my item and was checked out in about 5 minutes total which seems very quick compared to other customer service. The store was clean, well lit and elegantly decorated. We stopped here to buy an outfit for myself and my husband for a fancy dinner we were going to. We loved the crazy jackets they had available for him and he picked out a velvet blue suit jacket that should definitely make him stand out! Reasonably priced as it was 40% off. On the flip side, the dress I found was nearly 2.5 times the price and wasn't discounted. Even the soft black cowl I selected to go with it was nearly as much as the suit jacket (again, not discounted). Oh well, I've resigned myself long ago that women's clothes would always cost more than men's. We were approached by several different sales associates while we browsed and each asked if we'd be shopping today with our Macy's card. After we said we weren't interested, they disappeared. It feels as if there's a heavy incentive for them to sign up new customers. When I called the number on the receipt in the box to complement them on their service, the representative on the other end was rude and condescending. I agree with Stef. W. don't register at Macy's. I was disappointed that I did when I got married. There were several items we scanned and we got confirmation from Macy's that they were ordered from a guest but were on back order then a few months later I would get a letter stating Macy's was canceling the order due to the fact they were not in stock anymore. It probably only registered 2-3 months before my wedding so I didn't understand why this happened to so many items off my registry. Also, I have no idea if my guests were refunded or not since I figure it would be pretty tacky to mention the gift they sent was canceled. The Macy's which use to be Hecht's is kinda scary too...I went to leave the store the other night and the parking lot was pitch black! It was actually kinda scary walking to my car. I don't normally shop at Macy's, but since they bought out Hecht's (I used to do some shopping at Hecht's - mostly men's clothing and cologne) I thought I would check and see if they carry my favorite cologne as I was running low. I picked the wrong day to go to Fair Oaks Mall - Black Friday - but I needed to go by the Williams & Sonoma store in the mall - so I decided to make a side trip over to Macy's. After finding the men's fragrance counter - I quickly found the Jean Paul Gaultier - Le Male men's cologne. The woman at the counter was efficient - although she did try to up sell me on the Macy's credit card by promising me a 20% discount if I applied. I advised her that I had a Macy's credit card - and that I had canceled it earlier in the year due to their ridiculous interest rates - thus I was declining her offer. I don't really have any other reason to frequent Macy's. I got in, found my item, made my purchase, and got out. A routine surgical strike! :-) read more

We had the best experience purchasing our new bed from Scott in the Furniture & Bedding Department. Scott is fantastic! We first saw him a few weeks ago and weren't ready to purchase yet. He stayed in touch with us over the next few weeks to let us know what was going on. He's extremely good with customers and his subject matter expertise is second to none when it comes to the different types of mattresses and options available to Consumers. He's very informative on the process and will conduct research right there in front of you to find specific specs if need be. I think he's very thorough and an asset to Macy's. Purchasing the most appropriate mattress for me was imperative. I'm a disabled veteran and I've had several surgeries and injuries that tend to bother me especially when I sleep at night. He completely understood my individual needs and was able to advise me. Whenever we purchase Furniture items we find that salesman are very pushy and overbearing, and that couldn't be farther from the truth when it comes to Scott. He's fantastic! There is an "Old Macy's" and a "New Macy's" ....for those of us who haven't spent a lot of time in this area, better specify when meeting up with friends or trying to find something in Macy's. The make-up counter selection is limited but I am so grateful that this store is around because although I haven't had a chance to explore and decide whether I like like it or it's just lacking, the Old Macy's (closer to Sears) has a Dermablend make-up counter. I love their loose powder and sets my make-up. It's not carried in Sephora but they referred me here and for that I am thankful. My eyebrow lady and make-up artist got me hooked on this stuff. Dermablend makes a sunscreen line too. read more

I was at Macy's yesterday to buy some household electronics but got distracted and walked away with a dress as well. I was a little wary at first as I'd read less than flattering reviews of the service provided by the staff. They didn't seem to be ringing up purchases as quickly as I've gotten used to in Singapore / Hong Kong, so I'm wondering if it could be due to the system that they're using. If you're not too pressed for time, you could be in for a pleasant surprise. The slightly slower pace was more than made up for by their initiative to offer you the best available deal for the day. I'd forgotten about the promo codes that I'd received via email but they were willing to spend a little more time to tell me about it and enter the promo code so that I can enjoy the savings. This level of initiative is often lacking in Singapore (except at Tangs) where the staff can sometimes ring up your purchases faster than you can take your wallet out of your bag. I'm happy to spend about 10 more minutes or so in line just so I know that I can walk away with a deal that I'm happy with and pleasant service to boot. PS: I've also had the pleasure of dealing with helpful and empathetic customer service associates at their online store and flagship store at Herald Square in New York. read more

Up until recently, I've avoided the Hechts/Macy's because I assumed it would be fairly average seeming it was an old Hechts. My fiance and I were doing our wedding registry at Macy's 1, and were getting frustrated that we couldn't find anything there that we actually wanted. We soon discovered that their furniture (which is what we were most interested in) was all over in Macy's 2 (hechts). Sick of registering, we went to Macy's 2 a week or so later. For those doing their registry or just shopping for giftware, Macy's 2 is much nicer than macy's 1. Everything is more organized, there is less mess around the place, they have furniture, and the selection of giftware is much, much bigger. This past Saturday I went in there to pick up some gifts for upcoming weddings that I'm attending, and we happened to be served by this one woman, Fay, who had an accent. I was convinced she was Australian, but kept doubting myself. I ended up asking her after a while and sure enough, she was :). So another reason for me to go there: supporting my fellow Aussie :) :). hehe. Actually, that aside, the service she provided was excellent. read more

Anytime I walk through this portion of the mall, I'm reminded very quickly that these used to be Hechts stores. I don't know how Macy's is going to be able to shake the image but these stores just blow. They have second-rate products that are great for someone on a budget who wants to look decent. However, they fail at targeting other bargain shoppers who can afford the higher prices elsewhere if driven away by customer service. Unfortunately for them, I always find myself in this boat. Now, some may think I have a bias, but I have to say - my favorite Macy's locations have been: 1) Macy's (Tysons Galleria) where we did our wedding registry, 2) Macy's in Chicago, and 3) Macy's in NY. Otherwise, the rest just fall flat like a drunk sorostitute who had one too many roofies (I know, I know, not all sorority girls are like this but hey, there are those who fit the 'sorostitute' bill). Either way, Fair Oaks is a step up from Tyson's Corner Macy's, but not by a far shot. The one in Manassas Mall is so small ! Well, I'll be sticking to the Mac in Manassas Mall because the customer service at this location is horrible. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon at 12, barely a soul in the store. NO ONE in the Mac section but the girl working. I shopped around for 10 minutes and she never made eye contact nor acknowledge my existence. I left. I'm not saying you have to throw rose petals at my feet, but I worked in retail before and you need to acknowledge a customer when they walk in. read more

There are two Macy's in Fair Oaks. I find the employees at Macy's Petite to be more friendly and helpful than the other Macy's in the area (Tysons Corner, Tysons Galleria, Pentagon City...etc). There is also a bigger selection of petite clothes. But their fitting rooms were still just as depressing as the other Macy's. The employees, while more friendly and helpful, still need more training. I was there purchasing Christmas gifts and had asked for a gift receipt. The very helpful employee said "sure" and completely forgot to request for one. She said it's better I don't provide a gift receipt because I got a good price on the sweaters I purchased. In the past, when something like this happened in another store, the employee there offered to redo the transaction (basically do a refund and purchase again). I think that would've been a better way to handle the situation. Since this is the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, they really should check if the customers would like a gift receipt with their purchase to begin with. read more

I've been a long-time Macy's customer but NO MORE! The last straw is their "NEW" telephone system giving me a migraine of a Catch-22 run-around: I briefly connected with a live operator, only to hold for 5-10 min and get disconnected. It's nothing but a Catch-22, a tape from hell that refuses to connect you to a live person. It's worse than trying to make yourself understood to a call-center person in India! For 1/2 an hour, I tried to get through to SOMEONE REAL in their credit department. Fortunately, my Macy's credit is good but I had a question re. payment scheme, which is important to me because of tight budgeting. No such luck. The merchandise also isn't what it used to be. Looking for shoe-boots at the Fair Oaks store last autumn was disappointing. In the medium-to-higher price category, the selections were dreary and boring, the quality didn't seem much different than a Payless Shoe Source store. (And I've purchased shoes at Payless so I'm not knocking them.) Ditto for lots of the women's clothing. I'd expected better of Macy's ~ much better. I also have chronic health issues so can't easily get out to go shopping "whenever", thus if a major billing problem crops up it would double the difficulty. I just wouldn't trust them to handle it. So after today's fiasco with their "amazing new phone service", I think (even as a loyal Macy's shopper for many years) it's finally Good Riddance! read more

I went to Macy's today on the upper level and was trying to buy two pairs of boots that was on sale. I don't really shop at Macy's anymore at this location because of their rude customer service in the past. Since I haven't brought anything from them in a few years I was like ok, maybe their customer service has improved. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening. I waited in line for over 30 mins by the bra section and the line was super long but I really wanted these boots. When it was my turn, both of the cashiers there turned to me, gave me the most bitchiest look and goes, "shoe department is downstairs, we don't take shoe purchases here." What the fcuk? First of all you sold shoes on the upper level and second, the sign above your head says "customer center." So I said, why does it matter where I purchase them? I've been waiting in line for over 30 mins and now your telling me I can't buy my shoes here?! How ridiculous and rude is that?!!! What kind of customer service is this ?!! Needless to say, my temper got the best of me and I flung the two boxes of shoes on the floor and said, "I ain't buying your mother fcuking shoes now you bitches!!!"
