Whether it's Marvel movies or anime or even pop culture phenomenons like Hello Kitty you'll find clothing, bags, jewelry and more here. Staff at this store were very helpful and friendly to myself and my teen as we were doing some back to school shopping. They literally climbed ladders to get things down for us. My biggest beef with Hot Topic is the prices. This is an expensive store, with T shirts running close to $30. They do offer coupons and cash back bucks to spend later and that is pretty much the only way they keep me willing to come back. 5/9/21 Seven hours from now I will be back her only to eat at The Lazy Dog Restaurant. In the meantime, I am at Hot Topic to get some temporary hair dye for my wife. Since she doesn't like how her hair looks, I have been selected to find hair dye for a temporary fix. On the bright side, this can open doors for her coloring her hair others:) I like this idea. I also got two different women's opinions on the hair color my wife wants or close enough to it. I am safe from the disappointment look women can give to their loved ones. Yes, us men can give the look too, but this isn't the case for me today. Olly my cashier rang up and was most helpful on making the transaction go smoothly. Going in this store made me realize how much of a nerd/dork/hipster/ 14-year-old I really am. Call it what you want to call it; I'm not sorry I'm a fan of the following things- The Walking Dead The Avengers Power Rangers Zelda Harry Potter and Breaking Bad I used to think of Hot Topic as a teen's store to purchase belts with seat belt buckle connectors (which they still have) and wasn't cool then and still isn't cool. What, you're perpetually "buckled in"? What's so cool about that! Way to follow the law conformist ;). In any event, this store is all about... its name. What is the Hot Topic? It's Breaking Bad and Walking Dead. That is what people are talking about, so- yes they sell a couple of little memorabilia items including an air freshener, coffee cup beaker, and keychain Jesse Pinkman Dolls. They have other dolls and fun things for the Walking Dead too. I'm not sorry I love those amazing shows and neither should you. I think the prices are reasonable too. People expecting amazing service from any mall retail store are out of their minds. You can't pay 20yr olds minimum wage and get waited on hand and foot. This is Hot Topic not Nordstrom. I came in to pick up some H2Ocean (a great piercing aftercare product) since they're one of the few places selling it at a reasonable price. The staff was friendly, I made my purchase, and went on my way. It was very smooth and I have no complaints. If I need more H2Ocean or some tchotchke then I'll gladly come back to this place. read more

Yesterday my girl had been to hot topic to collect her online order of Five Nights At Freddy's Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Security Zip Hoodie at the Fair Oaks Mall around 4pm. The shop assistant - a guy named Adam or some name starting with A gave her 6 hoodies in a hot topic bag and since my girl was in a hurry she didn't check the bag and just brought the stuff back to where we were waiting for her ( at the malls DMV). While waiting we opened the bag and checked the order to find 5 extra hoodies against the 1 that we ordered so we went back with the stuff to the shop after 3hrs of waiting at the DMV. When we explained to the same person who handed her the bag the mistake on their part...he refused to own up to his mistake and said he was sure he gave only one. So does that mean we shop lifted and then came back to return the goods? Then while we were waiting for him to get the message into his brain that he messed up he thought we were waiting for money back on the 5 hoodies and he said " oh sorry u haven't paid for this so are u waiting for a money back on 5 hoodies?". I was thinking here I am saving this guy from losing his job and instead of showing basic gratitude and owning up to his mistake or even a thankyou, he's rubbing it on my face. I truly felt I shouldn't have returned this at all and should have left him figure out how he's going to explain $200 worth of merchandise just gone from his inventory. This isn't good customer service. We are regular customers of this particular hot topic location and I love all the girls who work there but this guy really put me off. All he had to do was own up and say thankyou. Hope someone would train him better or they might just end up with huge losses in their books. I returned what didn't belong to me...but who knows how many got away with free stuff because of this person. read more

We were there on Saturday night - 2/7/15 looking for a gift. It was a busy Saturday and there was only one worker out front when we were there. She was amazing handling the store. We needed help getting things off the high shelf and she kindly went up twice. She helped check inventory in the computer for the Fair Oaks store and when what we needed wasn't in the store, she helped check other local HT's inventory, and then called two for us to hold what we needed. There's no better place to accomplish this than Hot Topic. If you're looking for a good variety clothes sporting extraneous zippers, safety pins, rips, chains, studs, spikes, straps, rivets (I could go on) you won't be disappointed. I have had better experiences at the Spottsy Mall location. Other than the greeter that said "Hello, how are you?" at the front of the store, the rest of the staff couldn't care less. Long line but that is expected near Christmas time. But when they're just chatting away about the weather or the new Star Wars movie.... it's insulting to the customers waiting in line. Do the sale, process the payment, bag the stuff.... boom done. Next please. How hard is that? Oh yeah... long line but just 2 registers open. Genius! Finally my turn, buying 4 things, had credit card in hand - 4 minutes done. However, mr. cash register person forgot to ask if I had their reward card program thing (which he did ask the other customers before me ). And yes, my daughter does have it. So I mentioned it After the sale was completed. He said, "Oh - well I was trying to move the line along faster." Thanks "Dude".... Facepalm. I doubt this review will matter but maybe their district manager or other higher level managers see this and visit this store and give it a good shake! Usually, I would give this store a perfect score. But last night, I did NOT have a great experience. I have gone into this store three times to pick up items that I had ordered online. All times went through smoothly, as they were attentive. Also they were all very nice (especially one girl who was very willing to help straight away). Last night however, was an experience. I walked into the store, stood in front of the registers with two sales associates present. I stood their waiting because I figured they were busy with something. One of them looked me straight in the eye and did not seem interested to see why I was waiting there in front of her. She then left the register to help someone find something. She then came back to the register, still disregarding me. The other sales associate who stood at the register was talking with another customer about what she was going to get, saying things like, "Are you going to get that thing we talked about?", "Aw, you're not?". Which I kind of understand, since she was trying to help a customer, but the customer seemed as though she was just browsing, she was not in line. I was the ONLY one in line at the time. Finally, that customer that was talking with the sales associate comes up in line and the sales associate says, "Are you ready?" to her. .... The other customer looked at me and said, "She's in line first." The sales associate then finally "realized" my presence. It took her a while, but she finally asked, "What do you need?" and I said, "I'm just here to pick something up." "OH! Okay.." After waiting a while longer, she finally helps me on the register. She was a bit slow, which irritated me at first, but I'm not too upset about that now. It's just the fact that they had me waiting so long in the first place that made me more irritated about the situation. . . . This seems like I'm looking into this too much, but here are a few things you need to know: - I work in retail, so I understand the stresses of having to deal with customers. ALSO, I know how important customer service is. - I have gone in there multiple times to pick something up, and I was not blatantly ignored like this EVER in this store. So the fact that I did not have any merchandise on hand, is NOT a reason to ignore me. Also, funny thing is, while my friends were waiting for me at the front of the store, apparently a sales associate went over to ask if they needed any help. I'm going to give them another chance, but you better believe I won't show mercy next time if I see those two sales associates again. read more

Walked in the store and started looking at the t-shirts. I hear "hey man" being quietly spoken at the back of my head and I brush it off. This happens 3 times before I finally turn around. "Can I help you find anything??" I was then antagonized and dragged in to a confrontational conversation by the store manager seung, simply because I wanted to keep to myself. She would not leave me alone after I told her very clearly three times that I was looking and did not need her help. She was evasive and rude when I asked about her superior, who is she accountable to? Seung treats customers like she is not accountable to anyone. Literally just quietly standing in the store and I get accosted until I'm forced to ask for names. read more

Reason for 1 star only is because young asian girl with lip ring and color in her hair gave my gf and I the most rude service i have ever experienced in a retail store We simply cancelled our transaction and said we will go to choose different items and come back to the back of the line to avoid holding up the line the girl was being very rude and was very frustrated. Made rude gestures and had a very irritated tone. This was odd since we were being convenient to the other customers and her. I went into this store just to browse I love checking out the hot topics in the area and I've never had such a welcoming and great experience! Sam was fantastic and was wonderful to talk to! She knew so much about the product and the store (and not only that but was enthusiastic about it) and helped me find so many products I didn't even know I needed! This store is much further from where I live but I will make the commute if it means this kind of experience! I really only browse Hot Topic when I want new music. This one has an amazing vinyl collection I've never witnessed in a HT before. Lots of pop punk and hardcore. New and classic. When I browse I think "awww dang I need a record player immediately." The CD's aren't stocked well though. Staff is always friendly. read more

Great experience! The customer service was amazing! We interacted with two people who told us about the sales before making our purchase. They couldn't have been nicer. At the register, the next girl we met was extremely friendly too. She even chased us down the hall of the mall because we forgot the sticker we had just purchased. They really need to train their new employees better! I've been going to this store for over 7 years, and the customer service has gotten progressively worse. It doesn't seem like they train their employees well. I usually stick to the body jewelry here, since there aren't too many other places, excluding piercing salons. I would ask all the employees the same question, and all of them give me different answers. There have been multiple occasions where they'll find the size of my gauge (for my ears) and they've ALWAYS been wrong. They have this little wheel that's supposed to help determine this, but they ALWAYS give me the wrong size. Then when I tell them what happened, they always tell me I can't return it. (Obviously for health issues, but if they would just size me correctly, I wouldn't have this issue.) I'm not asking for EVERY employee to know EVERYTHING about the store, but ALL your employees should AT LEAST know the products they're selling. It upsets me that I've wasted well over $200 trying to find the right SIZE for my jewelry, and they've always failed me. Now I just stick to piercing/tattoo salons. read more

I am a person who likes to collect toys and recently a toy I wanted was only released at Hot Topic. My experience in the store was awful and reminded me why I hate shopping at the store. First, the store is too small. There is not a lot of space to move around, when the store is crowded, it seems like you are squeezing through a crowded Metro. The store was also way too dark. I was looking at the toys to make sure there were no factory errors but I kept having to move to one cramped section of the store to do this because most of the toys in that section were not lit at all. The music was way too loud added to the fact that the alarm system kept going off every minute. The service in line was very slow and I was almost tempted to just drop my stuff and leave. Several customers around me were also confused of where the line for the registers were, seeing how the store was so small and cramped that there was no marked area. I did get coupon but I am debating if I would ever use it because my experience was awful. read more

I mean it's really all up to the customers and I'm standing in line listening to people say no and they'll be persistent and ask several more times. First of all it does not take 2 seconds.. There isn't much to appreciate in here. I'm giving Hot Topic three stars solely because they carry vinyl, something that is becoming harder and harder to find these days. It's obviously no record store, and you're not going to find anything out of the ordinary in their music section, but they charge fair prices for new records. This is the best Hot Topic store in the area! Way better than the Dulles location! They have a huge selection of band T-shirts and great selection of vinyls for those like me who are into that sort of thing. Staff is friendly as well. read more
