My PT therapist mentioned Montague & Son The Birkenstock Store located in Herndon and yesterday I finally dropped by. Located close to Lotte Plaza and Fair Oaks Hospital, it's a small store but packed with Birkenstock sandals and other ancillaries . I was met entering by a young lady (Ceres?)who took her time to help me decide which sandals would fit and what colors were available (none of mine were so went with second best). She was very thorough, up to the point where another young lady who was obviously a close friend stopped by and then I had her divided attention to check-out. I have my sandals and tried them as directed for an hour first day and the tried the second day. It hurt in the top of my foot and I had to read the reviews to find out why it was hurting. Would have been nice to have been told that by my associate. Not cheap so pay attention in the store. I overheard another associate going deeper into the physical aspects of the sandals so try and see if you can enter, walk around and listen in to conversations to see which associate seem to be most knowledgeable. Hopefully the sandals will break in shortly and I can experience the benefit.

We generally love DSW, but this particular location seems to offer a lower-quality or less trend-aware selection, perhaps the buyers for this store aren't keeping up with current fashion trends. The store was also fairly empty, which stood out, especially since it's located in a busy shopping center where other stores were bustling with customers. Another difference we noticed was that most of the staff were gathered near the registers. At other DSW locations, we usually see associates walking the floor and actively assisting customers. Overall, it was an okay visit, but not one that met our usual expectations for DSW.

Rick understood my needs and was able to suggest styles of sandals, shoes, and sneakers based on my issues. He was very patient with all the shoes I tried on (I think I was there for an hour and a half). When we finally found a pair of sandals that fit, there was an area with stitching on the inside that irritated my foot, but he was able to take it to the back and smooth it down. Shoe Fly carries brands that we had never seen before, and they fit much better than the typical Naturalizers and Clarks that all the department stores carry. My partner doesn't always love trying on shoes but I find it's the best way to get proper fitting shoes for him. We tried on a few as the new version of his current pair no longer fit so well. 2 team members went to the back at the same time. I could hear one of them very clearly say jeez thanks for taking them they're a handful laughing. I mean if you're going to talk about clients at least do it quietly. Just because I can't see you doesn't mean I can't hear you. The person getting the different shoes wasn't even asking any follow up questions about how does this feel or any follow up to help facilitate finding the right fit. I bought the damn shoes because my husband needed them and I shouldn't have. Nordstrom is far and I hate the parking but at least they value their customers.
