I give them 4.5 stars! This is my first time hiring movers. They were very professional and flexible from the start. They came to the house and gave a quote. They also gave us free boxes for our move. They finished early with 2.5 hours to spare and we were refunded the difference from our deposit. Just make sure you are ready to go by the time they arrive so it goes smoothly! I highly recommend them, they were refereed to me from a friend too. I will use them again if I move again! read more

Macy Movers is an amazing moving company!! I hate moving and would avoid it at all cost but Macy Movers eased my anxiety and stress. The price was reasonable and the workers were very nice and acknowledged that my stuff was valuable and didn't treat the move as just a job. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone!!! read more

Tony and his crew were great for the packing and loading. And during the initial estimate phase, Chris was really meticulous in making sure he understood exactly what we were taking with us so he could give us an accurate quote. I felt very much at ease having both the packing and the moving teams in our house, taking care of our items. Macy Movers was recommended to me by the owner of another local moving company and I couldn't be more relieved. I had read so many bad moving stories online about other companies and we have only experienced good things with Macy. read more

I had a pretty great experience with my Macy move, so I feel compelled to post here to try to balance out some of the crummy reviews. It seems like often people only post when something went wrong... =) I contracted with Macy for a full-service pack and move of a 1br apartment full (I mean FULL) of stuff from SF to LA. It was the second move for me in a year and I just didn't want to be bothered, so I signed up to have them take care of everything. I didn't want to have to do anything more complicated than unpack boxes in my new living room... and that's exactly how it worked out. Thumbs up. The pre-move inspection was timely and professional. A guy showed up at my house with a clipboard and walked through every room noting down pieces of furniture and estimating numbers of boxes, and I had my (very reasonable) estimate within a few days. On moving day, two guys showed up at my house, right on time. They were a team who'd obviously worked together before, and they were friendly and professional throughout the day-long packup. I hadn't done any more than get things into roughly the right rooms, and had lots of last minute business to take care of, and they just rolled with it and boxed my life up with minimal intervention from me. I even felt comfortable enough to run an errand a few blocks away while they continued to pack, and my good faith was not abused. The move was long-distance, so the LA unload was through Gentle Giant, a business they contract with. That went great, too, but that's a whole 'nother review. Absolutely nothing was damaged or broken throughout the move. I docked exactly one star because I had to call a second time to get my move-out date scheduled. When I accepted the estimate, the guy I emailed about it didn't get my move-out date onto the books, so when I called the office to confirm I had to basically re-make the appointment. Just make sure you talk to someone in the central office on the phone and they have your dates in their system. This may be why some other reviewers have complained about no-shows. read more

Macy Movers came recommended to me by people in my neighborhood on the Nextdoor app. I have absolutely no complaints about them. Chris and Stevie (some folks from their office) were incredibly friendly and helpful on the phone. I had to reschedule my move due to unexpected construction on my street and it was not a problem. The guys who showed up this morning were courteous and professional, but most importantly just a couple of nice guys. They took good care of my things, which was nice, but also did it very quickly. I was able to move my one bedroom apartment across town in just over three hours. We were all wrapped up by noon! I would definitely use them again. Not sure what all of those negative reviews are about... I've had to use several different moving companies over the years and this was by far my best experience. read more

Macy Movers is affiliated with Atlas Moving Company. In a world where you hear more moving-horror stories (look at movingscam.com), these guys were a diamond in the rough. They do an in-home inspection (really important when you get estimates), and the actual movers were on-time on both ends and extremely professional. You get the driver's cell phone number, he rings you the night before the pick-up and delivery, and you get a call from Atlas a couple days before the drop-off. Everything made it cross-country within 15 days. Prices were about average (~$2500 for a studio). If I ever have to move again (God help me if I do), I'm definitely sticking with Atlas. read more

Macy Movers has a great team of very professional people. Each time I have used them or recommended them to others it has been positive experience. I recently had them move furniture out of a small Berkeley home and I still am amazed at how they were able to manage the tight space. Always on time and always bring a great attitude. They really know how to make moving easier. Thanks Macy Movers! read more

I highly recommend this company for a cross country move. They arrived when they said they would arrive to do the pick-up and last minute packing. But what most impressed me was when their partnering company, Atlas Van Lines, failed to provide a truck or driver so that my belongings arrived during the window of time in the agreement, the owner of Macy's Van Lines drove my stuff from California to upper Michigan himself. He arrived earlier than predicted and was extremely helpful in taking the boxes and packing material away that I was able to unpack before he completed the job which was very helpful given the Island he delivered to does not have an easy way to get rid of all of those materials. He arranged for helpers to unload that drove 4 hours to get there to assist him. Everyone was very professional and took great care to go out of their way to make a difficult process much easier. read more

I love this business. Macy Movers is a longtime business in the Bay Area. 28 years ago, they moved my husband and I, and 15 month old daughter, from our apartment in Berkeley to Alameda. Eight years later, they moved us to our home in Orinda. In December they moved my son's belongings from Riverside to Sacramento where he is in a postgraduate program. Last month they moved, and stored, my daughter's belongings from Sacramento while we waited to see where she would match for a medical residency. She matched with a Harvard affiliated program and Macy Movers/Atlas Van Lines is now taking her belongings to Boston. Macy Movers has become a family affair for us and we have never been disappointed. Email communication with them tends to be impersonal, so telephone connections are best. Everyone that I have spoken with has been most accommodating. The company has really tried hard to get our stuff to where it needed to be, on the day we needed it, and without any damage. I highly recommend this company. read more

Met Chris at my home in Antioch. He was concise, congenial and honest! I was in touch with him during the entire experience. Two men from the Oakland office starting packing on a Saturday. Very hard working and friendly nice guys! On Monday , Jason the driver came and packed the truck with three other workers. There were problems on closing my house up north so I had to put off delivery for a few days late. Macy Movers accommodated me perfectly. They showed up on Friday and did a superior moving my possessions into the house. Macy's Movers are #1 for me. read more

We used Macy movers nearly a year ago, we held this company to the highest of standards, especially in the midst of a pandemic and moving hundreds of miles away. Getting our move scheduled was easy and speaking with the head of the company was a pleasure. However upon our arrival at our new home and awaiting our personal belongings, things went wrong. Upon receiving our furniture, we found there were damages done to the furniture such as scratches, nicks, broken/missing parts which were meant to hold furniture in tact. One of the movers dropped a box of China as he to carried the huge box on his back. It was almost as if they were in a rush as well. We contacted Macy and informed them of the issues we had with our furniture and have all the pictures in our drive however Chris (if I have his name correct) did not want us to email all 20+ pictures to him but rather send it in a way that was easy for them but difficult for us. Macy Movers if you are reading this, please respond to this review and we will be more than happy to email 20+ pictures to you as we intended to do nearly a year ago. We never have to worry about using this service again even if we were in the same area that they are located in. Poor service and we were very upset and still are as you can imagine. *Update - it seems there are people who have left reviews over the years with the same issues of damaged furniture, missing parts, and poor service etc., regarding the delivery of furniture. The retrieval of furniture was good for us (we packed everything ourselves anyways), but the delivery was awful. Sorry to say but at least we know we are not the only ones who experienced these major issues. I knew I should've gone with the movers who transported our furniture across the United States in tact and professionally. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. read more

Do yourself a favor. Just don't hire these guys. I had a god awful experience. I dealt with guys complaining about stairs they were warned about before they took the job. I dealt with two guys taking multiple smoke breaks on my dime. And only one guy did any of the actual moving. Took twice as long and ended up costing me more money. Worst of all, when I brought it to the attention of the movers that I had to pay extra because the job was taking too long when only one of them was doing any moving, one of the movers jumped down my throat. A paying customer has a right to express dissatisfaction with poor service. After all that, I just did not want either of these guys in my home but had to deal with them til the job was over. Just think twice. read more

Great great company to work with. I did a long search and was referred by a moving company in LA. They specialized in cross city moving. I was moving from LA to SF, and the total cost was only 1/3 of the quotation from 5 different companies. I emailed Mark a couple of times, and have everything ink 2 weeks prior my move. They were able to show up and deliver on time. On the actual move day, Clint and his worker show up. I was impressed that they were so organize. They put sticker on all of my boxes and furniture before they upload onto their truck. When they deliver, they will make sure we check off all items before they leave. Back to the story, Clint was so professional that he will make sure all items are secure and safe before moving onto the truck. I have moved many times in the last 10 years, and Clint is the best mover I ever have. I don't know how much more I can say about Macy's movers, the movers are great and they want to make sure they have taken care of their client. I have great experience and would go back to Macy's movers when I need to move again. read more

Crew was on time and final costs came in 20% lower than the estimate. Chris Mayer was very thorough in his walk through as I needed them to pack EVERYTHING. Sylvester and his team worked quickly and moved me from S.F. (4th floor apartment) to the East Bay in 6 hours start to finish. read more

We had a whole-house move that included everything we had accumulated over 32 years. We contacted several movers in the East Bay including Macy Movers. Chris Mayer from Macy Movers was the first to respond and was prompt and professional throughout the entire process. We chose Macy based on Chris' professionalism, their pricing, and their reputation in the area. The moving crew showed up on the appointed date and time. They were efficient, courteous, and handled all our items with care. They packed everything up and moved it to our new location in exactly the amount of time Chris had estimated. At the new house we had them place all the large pieces in the locations we wanted in the new house. The crew did this without incurring any damage and they were very careful to protect the floors and walls. Notes regarding Special Services: 1. We have a Sleep Number bed which required disassembly and reassembly. Chris assigned a mover to our move that is experienced in this specialty, which afforded us additional peace of mind and saved us from having to pay Sleep Number to do it). 2. We had them move a motorcycle with the household items. Other moving companies added a "special charge" for the bike; as much as $250. Macy simply loaded the bike in the van with the other items for no additional charge. 3. They provided some used cardboard packing boxes free of charge. They were delivered to my house a week before the move so I could pack the things that I wanted to handle myself. Then, a few weeks after the move in, they came back and picked up all the boxes free of charge. The move in was completed in the time estimated by Chris. There were no issues, damage, nor "surprise" added costs when the move was complete (something that we had heard about other movers when we were shopping around). Summary: Macy Movers handled our move on time, with care, and for a price that beat the competition. We highly recommend Macy Movers and would use them again without question. read more

These guys were careful, polite, professional, well-priced, stayed on task, and easy to deal with. They were very up-front about the estimated cost, which was almost spot-on. (There were no surprises.) One item got damaged at the point of origin (this stuff happens), and Macy's was very fair when it came time to reckon the cost. We had purchased their $140 insurance, covering items up to a total of $10K for the value of a _new_ replacement. read more

I've used Macy Movers for several moves, beginning in 1984, and all have been completed without complaint. I had a family heirloom, my father's Craftsman tablesaw, stored in their warehouse after my nephew shipped it from his workshop after he passed away. I didn't have a place to put it, and it sat in Macy's warehouse for years. I paid $3,979.83 in storage fees. A new Craftsman Professional 10 in. Contractor Saw (Sears#21833) is $598.99. Bad decisions on my part, but that's the way storage works.......you put it in thinking it will only be a few months, and then pay forever. As time passed, my payments to them slowed down, and I owed them almost $1,200 in back storage fees, in addition to what I had already paid. They were very understanding, and when I recently had a chance to move it out to my son's shop, they discounted the balance and let me close the account for $200. They didn't need to do that, but helped me solve this problem. Macy Movers Inc. are pretty good people in my book! read more

Terrible. Unprofessional, never use. The only reason I am giving one star is the fact that there is nothing less to give. I called and asked a quote on moving one large item as I did not have a truck to move it with. I received a call back right away with the quote and asked when we could arrange a time to pick it up as I was moving out of my apartment. After that it was basically just a total shit show with zero call backs. I talked to 4 different people, Audrey, Cindy, Frank and Jack. All said they would make notes on my account and have the boss call me later. Not once did I get a call back, I had to call them and got the same answer every time. Finally I was able to schedule an appointment to pick up the bed as I had 2 days left to move out and had been dealing with Macy for over a week. I set a time and date for pick up and they promised to be there within a 2 hour window. THEY NEVER EVEN SHOWED UP OR CALLED ME. I called and left several voicemails asking what the hell was going on and if they were delayed and coming the next day but nothing. Not even a call back. As unprofessional as you can get and ridiculous. If they were not able to move my stuff for some reason that's fine. Let me know and I'll find someone else, don't just give me a string of empty promises and totally screw me in the end. They suck, never use them for any reason. I would rather light all my stuff on fire then ever let Macy Movers near it. read more

I relocated to Northern California from Southern California in November 2012. I was extremely nervous about the move. I am a 69 year old, on my own, and felt so helpless. I had things in storage for over three years and wasn't sure just what I had. I took care to label everything, which Macy's did as well. Clint Arnett was wonderful. He took his time and wrapped and labeled EVERYTHING. The move wwent very well and I would reccomend Atlas Van Lines to anyone making a long haul move, or any move for that matter. read more

Macy Movers gets a 5 star from us. The crew was professional, experienced, courteous and accomodating in every way. They made a possible stressfull experience into a stressfree one! I would recommend them to anyone. We are using storage for a month and know that the experience 30 days from now will be an A + also! read more

After living 41 years in the same house Macy Movers was hired to pack and move my wife and I to a new home. We did not take moving lightly and Chris Meyer, our contact person, relieved me of as much anxiety as he could. He promised me the best team especially to move the family china, crystal and silver. They were the best. I believe that the leader was Jacob. When it looked as though they could complete the job in two days instead of the estimated three they brought in an extra person to help and completed the job at 8 PM on the second day. Nothing broken. 101 cartons. I gave the crew $100 to buy their lunch on the second day. They brought back change. Because the crew worked especially hard to complete the move in a shorter time the actual charges were far significantly below the estimate. read more

We had an estimate scheduled early this morning. When after 15 minutes no one had showed, I called Macy's. They informed me that their estimator was a "no-call, no-show this morning -- can we try another day?". Sorry, but we have schedules and lives. They should have called us to confirm. This company was recommended by folks on the Berkeley Parents Network. I should have checked reviews on Yelp before making the appointment -- lots of clunkers here. With all the choices available, don't hire Macy Movers. read more

I used Macy Movers last summer, and am just getting around to unpacking the last of my boxes now. I am horrified with the way things were packed. Things were literally thrown into boxes with no thought to organizing anything at all. I just opened a wardrobe box that had garage things thrown into, with heavy things thrown on top of down sleeping bags. Boxes were improperly labeled, partially labeled or not labeled at all so finding things has been a nightmare. I started to see this kind of "packing" as I was opening boxes last fall, and I left a couple of voicemails for my contact person and never heard back. I texted pictures, and never heard back. I have made more than a dozen moves in my life, including international and cross-country moves, and I've never seen such terrible packing. Don't use them. read more

I used Macy Movers more than once. The first time I used them I really didn't know pricing of moving companies but it did seem like a lot of money for the work being done. The second time I used them I was moving from Alameda, CA to Fremont, CA. It was a 20-25 minutes drive. The job took 4 hours. 4 guys working and not a lot of stuff. The driver charged me $750. I signed the receipt/work order and started un-packing. A few days later, I see the charge for my move in my bank account. It wasn't $750. They charged me $1,050 on my card. I called Macy Movers and they said "the drivers don't really know all the charges involved". Nobody bothered to call to tell me they are adding $300 randomly to my charge card. Nobody said "sorry". Just a blunt response basically saying "deal with it". No customer service at all. When I moved from Fremont, CA to San Leandro and had amassed many more items to move, I called a local Fremont moving company. Two guys moved me in 4 hours, moving nearly twice the boxes. They charged me $590 for the 4+ hour move. Granted Alameda would add 10-15 minutes drive time comparatively. But taking into account all the added boxes from living in a bigger space for 1.5 years, the move was about the same overall. So if you want to be charged double for the same service you can get elsewhere......then call Macy Movers. I won't ever call them again. They gouged me big time. read more

I have hired a number of movers over the years, for local moves, cross country, and everything in between. I used Macy last year for a local move within San Francisco. The guys that moved me are in my view NOT professional movers. They are guys to carry your stuff. What is the difference? For example, professional movers will use moving straps to carry an entire stack of boxes on their back in a single trip. These guys just carried one or two at a time which obviously takes a lot longer, and time is money in this business. They also tried to outright overcharge me. They tried to include the 45 minutes of drive time that it took them to get from their office to the pickup spot and they didn't even know that they were violating their own policy. I had to call their HQ to get it sorted out. Also, on the waye between the pickup and dropoff location I saw the truck pulled over at a gas station so they could pick up cigarettes and have a smoke. Do that on your own time, not while you are charging me and hourly rate! I picked them based on positive reviews on the Better Business Bureau's website, but I will NOT use them again. read more

Macy did a terrific job of packing and moving us from Marin to Pebble Beach. They coordinated getting all our stored furniture onto the trucks as well as doing an excellent job in a complex packing up procedure. The crew was personable and very professional. All in all, they made a stress-filled time go very smoothly. Would use them again in a flash! read more

Can't fault this company! Great communication prior to the move. Called on the day of the move with an ETA, on time! The guys were really friendly and very respectful. It was a long day and they made sure that all of our belongings were seen to the correct rooms in my new home. There was just one item which got slightly damaged and Chris made sure that this was taken care of immediately. I would certainly recommend this company and use this company for my future moves. read more

I approached our recent office move with trepidation, but a co-worker reminded me that we had used Macy's Movers for our last office move. I checked out Yelp, and was concerned by the number of bad reviews. Then I looked at the dates - all 2008 and 2009 - what's up with that? So we called Macy's, and Chris, the estimator, set up a time to come by and do a quick walk-through. He filled us in on everything we could do to prepare or pack in advance to ensure a swift and painless experience. Chris followed up with a written quote the next day. Macy's was able to schedule the move for the day we wanted. They were flexible about rescheduling (given a few days' notice) when it turned out our new location was not going to be ready. We got a reminder/confirmation call the day before The movers showed up on time, acted professionally and courteously. They got all our stuff disassembled, moved across town, and reassembled in the proper offices in under the time allotted, and came in almost 20% under their quote. Everything was set up correctly, and nothing was damaged in the move. All communications and follow-through were timely and instructive. So I have to give Macy's 5 stars, because they did everything a mover is supposed to do. They were the only service provide we dealt with during the entire office set-up procedure who made our lives easier, rather than making problems. Actually, that's an exaggeration. The Alhambra water people and the sewer pump-out services we found were both exemplary. But IT and other services have been an ongoing problem. If we ever move out of this place, I know who to call! read more

I can't express how terrible this company is. They couldn't move my small two bedroom house .5 miles in 8 hours. I found empty beer cans in my garage and neighbors flower bed. I moved more boxes than they did. Completely unacceptable!!! read more

If could give no stars I would. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with. They lack ethics, they say one price then come back "oh rates went up". I asked if I get rid big furniture of it would be cheaper they said yes and it ended costing me more. I wanted to take my things in a truck and they said they would do it for the same price, it cost twice the amount. The movers arrived late and I told the specific time of building and they past the hour costing more money. This company I will never recommend. read more

I have used Macy's for local moves three times in the past five years. Each time, I have had no complaints. My experience has been similar to the one described by Shadow R. Each time, the estimator clearly explained the terms of their bid and made adjustments to make sure it was accurate. On moving day, the crews showed up on time and got the work done within the estimated time. The movers were responsive and friendly (especially on the most recent move -- thanks Greg, Dan and Rich!). In short, I can't recommend these guys highly enough. read more

Macys Movers moved us this summer and I was thrilled with the results. We also moved a year ago and I had a horrible experience so it was a nice surprise this time around for everything to go so smoothly. Chris came and gave an overview of the move and estimate and he stuck to his word by not exceeding the maximum cost even though the move took longer than expected. The staff provided during the 2-day move was phenomenal. It was 103 degrees and these men let by Michael were incredible. They were careful with our items, placed them in the proper locations, moved things as necessary and were very tidy. Every request I had was met with "no problem". They used their time efficiently and were very hard working. I can't say enough good things about Chris, Michael, and the rest of the staff. I would use these guys again in a heartbeat! read more

I just used Macy Movers to move from LA to the Bay Area. I actually contracted with another company in LA (Gentle Giant) but Macy did the move. They were GREAT! I used Macy Movers this weekend for a local move -- from Alameda to Alameda, and the guys they sent over were great. I've never used movers before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Jason, Ernie, & Mike were all very professional, hard working, and great communicators. I told them which pieces were particularly sentimental and fragile, and they took great care to protect these pieces. Plus, the first thing they did when they got to the new house was to ask to be shown which rooms were which, that way they'll know where to put our stuff. My husband and I were informed along the whole process. I would definitely use Macy Movers again. read more

I searched endlessly for a good moving company and after reading about their reviews on Yelp, I thought I would try them and get the free in home estimate. Jacky Macy (the owner) was extremely friendly when he came and did the estimate. The quote was a little higher than I originally wanted to pay but once the move was over, the bill was much less. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the movers who were quick and efficient. They were on time and were very professional. I HIGHLY recommend using this company if you are looking for good movers in the Bay Area! read more

Macy Movers is a great moving company! The movers were hard-working, seemed to really care about what they're doing, and the price quote was competitive against the others I received. Macy Movers handled a very difficult moving job for us. They hoisted an antique French armoire up one full story into our Berkeley house, via a balcony.
