Time for other half of the move. Advantage moved us into our home at our final destination after storing our stuff for about 8 months. Hats off to this company for another well coordinated effort! After a few months we decided to jettison more stuff from our original items, and the office and movers worked in coordination with my husband as to what pieces we wanted to leave behind. Robert who first moved us out took detailed notes so we were able to identify clearly items our family was going to pick up locally in their storage facility and what Advantage could give away to the Salvation Army. No problem there. Come actual day of the move into our high rise unit, we were able to request and get Robert who first supervised the crew in the beginning now to supervise our move in. They were done in two hours moving us in without any damage to common property areas with our strict HOA. All again went smoothly. If i can give zero star i will in a heartbeat. This is the worst moving company i have ever experience in my life!! Especially the staff Chitra. She was very responsive when we were getting a quote but as soon as our stuff is shipped she is no where to be found. When i call the office they keep referring me back to her and cannot give me any information about the delivery date and final price. Its been a month and we are still waiting on our stuff to arrive. She keeps saying she will email me or call me back when she arrives in the office but nothing. THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ever Finally got our stuff. They sent in a much smaller truck to the storage that we asked them to go. She told me its a big one so we had to find a special storage location in order to fit that size of truck she told us about but ended up sending a small one. We could have saved money on storage. Also she told us they have their own truck and don't contract our. Guess what. That small truck is from a different company that we didn't know about and they didnt even bother to give the driver our number or us the driver's number the day before. I'm giving this company 2 stars only because the actual movers and the gentleman (Paul) that came out to give my Grandmother a quote were actually really nice. However, their business practices are extremely shady. They came out, measured everything, looked at all of my grandmothers belongings, and gave her a quote to move everything into storage, then to her new home a few months later. They said the first month of storage would be free, and gave a price for each additional month. My Grandmother had used them for this exact same moving scenario in the past, but now their price for the same type of move had drastically increased. Because the original move had taken place a couple years prior, my grandmother agreed to pay their new additional fees due to inflation. Three months went by and my Grandmother had settled into her new home, and contacted them to deliver her items. Not only were some items missing (which had also happened the first time she had used them), but now they were trying to charge her almost $1k in additional fees to move her items to her new home. My grandmother told them that was not what she had signed and or agreed upon, so they left and said they would follow up with their supervisor. This is where we started getting harassing phone calls from the owner/manger named Chitra. Several times she was caught lying on the phone, while her story kept changing about why the price had suddenly increased without notice. She kept saying it isn't about the money....yet she was harassing an elderly woman (on a fixed income) to what would amount to no more than a measly $500 dollars. Her actions showed exactly what type of company they are running, and about their morals. She also kept threatening us by saying she would take us to court. Needless to say, this has been a horrible experience, and definitely not worth the headache. read more

This was the best moving experience we have ever had. All the way from the beginning estimate phases until the last box was unloaded, the team was very professional, friendly, and punctual. Chitra is very communicative and is very easy to work with. We had an awesome team of five movers and two trucks and they worked very efficiently all day. We had a lot of sentimental items, large pieces of art, and an upright piano, and had to make a long distance move. The last time I moved, six years ago, I got a recommendation from a friend. The movers she recommended had worked well for her, but for me, they showed up over an hour late with a lame excuse (traffic!), and ended up taking two hours more than they said they would, which cost me more money (and they'd only take cash), the guy was demanding that I give him a tip before he'd leave my new apartment. So this time, when I moved, I asked a little more discerning questions about a good company. Kelly came out and did an estimate, looking through all my stuff to give me a precise estimate of how much it would cost. I was also concerned in that I had a few pieces of furniture that had been assembled in my apartment, and wanted someone who would be able to dis-assemble and re-assemble in the house. The furniture was not a problem for my movers. It was a crew of three and they were polite and helpful, and very nice about my requests of moving furniture in a particular location ("can you try the bed over there?" "can you move the desk on that wall?") Kelly had given me a "not to exceed" estimate of 6.5 hours of work, and the movers finished in 5 hours. I think Advantage is a very professional moving company that is very interested in customer service. I hope I don't have to move anytime in the future, but if I did have to move, I would call them again. read more

Maybe one of the hardest things anyone can do. And that's especially the case when the person moving is a senior. My mother, 88, was living at the Atrium of San Jose ( since bought by the Brookdale chain of retirement homes ) near the Oakridge Mall when it became necessary to shift from a large one bedroom end unit on the top floor with a view of the mountains to a smaller one bedroom and save almost 25% per month in rent. We had the help of friends, but management of the facility suggested we get assistance from a firm called Gentle Transitions since they specialize in moves for older people and did a very good job for others at the Atrium during the past several years. Gentle Transitions handles the packing and unpacking, but they contract with local movers for that portion of the process. In San Jose, they use Advantage Moving of Milpitas. Advantage did a very good job. Gentle Transitions began to pack things at 8 AM on a Saturday in my mother's old apartment. Advantage followed at 9 AM and delivered the goods from one end of the complex to another as a steady stream of dollies hauled her bed, chairs, couch, dressers and lamps as well as books, clothing and all sorts of odds and ends needed for a full life. The process moved as seamlessly as possible. Pack...move...unpack and repeat. To the best of our knowledge, everything reached the destination without harm or hassle. The one blemish was several grease marks accidentally left on the new carpet. However, Joe, the guy in charge from Gentle Transitions, got some spot remover from a store and wiped the stains away. The crew of 3 from Advantage Moving led by Matt was friendly, helpful and literally did the heavy lifting. They were fine. The only issue we had was the grease. Do they normally lay drop cloths on areas where the haul might cause a problem? Overall, Matt and the guys from Advantage Moving met the criteria to earn 4 1/2 stars, including: -   Flexibility with the calendar ( worked on a Saturday ) -   Arrived on time -   Explained what needed to be done before doing it -   Completed the work with a minimum of fuss and delay - No damage to the furniture -   Hard working -   Charged a reasonable price ( $600...known in advance ) Based on this experience, we'd recommend Advantage Moving of Milpitas. Everything was as promised. Advantage showed up on time, and they were accommodating and very careful with my antique furniture and everything else. The movers wrapped all of the furniture in padding, so *nothing* was broken or dinged, a first for me! They brought an enviable toolbox for disassembling and reassembling furniture, and put back everything quickly and well. When the move was finished, they even moved a table that turned out to be too large for one room, and put it in a different room for me. The company was upfront with their charges, which are fair. They answered all of my questions throughout the process. They did a Zoom walkthrough, which was easy and convenient. The estimate was a "not to exceed" number which meant that unless I sneaked in more things to be moved after the walkthrough, the cost could decrease. In my case, they estimated 7 hours and it turned out to be 6 hours, so my actual cost was lower. My only advice would be to push back if you think the number of movers assigned is too high. The supervisor thought my move would require 6 movers. I pushed back and she lowered it to 4. This was a townhouse-to-townhouse move and 6 movers would have been bumping into each other constantly! 4 was the right number. read more

-1 These people moved me the end of April. A few weeks later I discovered 1 or 2 boxes were "lost" (maybe kept) I called them and they did not answer so I left a message. They STILL never called me back. I called several times and they finally sent out a claim - to my brother. I filled out the claim and sent to them. I waited for a few weeks and called them again. NO answer! I kept calling them and finally got them. They told me they had been busy but would soon look at it and call me. Again I waited and had to call THEM! They told me they only had to pay me so much per pound. These were Breyer (plastic collectible) horses and though they cost a total of $400.00, I was told it goes by the pound and all they had to pay me a few dollars. I said OK as at least I could start to collect them again. THEY NEVER sent me any money and again I could not get hold of them. Finally they called ME and said they would give me a check for $130.00! I waited AGAIN and the check NEVER came so I called and had to leave a message It is now the 7th of September and I cannot get hold of them - only the answering machine My brother took out no insurance so I am out of luck. The whole deal has to be done in 90 days and so if they wait long enough the time frame will be gone and I am out of any money! I have collected these horses since I was a child - many of them given to me by my late mom. I do NOT see how they could have lost them. We looked in the room I left and at my brothers and in my new room but NO they were not here. The street they picked them on on was not a busy street and the box would have been right there and not hidden. I personally think they opened the box, saw what was inside and kept them. They can receive a lot of money from these horses. I rate them as a 0 and would never recommend them to anyone - they are shady at the least! read more

I just had Advantage M&S move my home. They were very professional, courteous, and careful. Paul came by to give me an estimate. He was on time and courteous. I requested a "not-to-exceed quote" and theirs was the lowest, even though their hourly rate was slightly higher than the other 2 I received. I got the impression that the others heavily pad their not-to-exceed quotes. The 4 movers worked very hard. They covered all furniture well. Nothing was damaged. I waited several months to post this to ensure I wrote a thoughtful review. Moving service : 5 stars Storage service : 2 stars Management service : 0 stars Used the moving service multiple times - movers did a professional job each time. Used the storage service for multiple months. The couldn't provide me proof on how many bins my stuff actually filled (which they said was more than the estimate by the movers) and required that if I wanted to know, they could pull out the bins and open them, but that I would be charged a per bin price to do it. I even asked for a picture to be emailed, but that was rebuffed. The last straw was it turns out they lost some nuts and bolts to a piece of furniture (rendering it unusable), which I discovered after having items moved out of storage. Contacted the company; referred to management. We had a disagreement on what happened and the conversation got to the point where he dared me to post a bad review and said he didn't care if I did because they already have alot of good reviews anyways. Did I hear that correctly? Yes I did. Right now they are lucky (but they don't care anyways) I haven't filed anything with BBB or Diamond Certified, although I did ask for the forms to fill out. In any case, I had to continually follow up with them despite promises of looking into it, even after I provided proof they had lost the bits. They moved so slow on remedying the issue, I just ended up finding someone to help me fix it since I needed to use the furniture, not let it sit there for months. We paid for a full pack-and-move service, and wanted a guaranteed delivery date. Brian's estimate was fair and affordable, and they were able to schedule the dates we wanted. Edwin and his packing crew were superb: efficient, careful, and personable. We have a number of antiques, artwork, and collectibles which we were anxious about; Edwin assured me that I would be pleased with his packing, and once we unpacked things in our new home we realized how true a statement that was. Our 3-bedroom household was loaded the next day and delivered to our new home two days later, exactly as we asked. The crew clearly CARED about our belongings and our comfort during the move out/in, and were easy to work with. There's really nothing they could have done better. Not a single item was broken, damaged, or lost during the move; it was on time and under estimate; the crew members were efficient, strong, cheerful, and careful: what more can you ask? It was a surprisingly easy out-of-state move for us, and that's directly attributable to the excellent staff at Advantage. We will recommend this firm as often as we can. read more

I'd probably give this place 4.5 stars if I could. I decided to use these guys as my movers for my move from San Jose to San Francisco. I did a fair amount of research, and Advantage was the only one that insisted on doing an in-person on-site estimate. To me, this showed that they were serious; because of this, they were the only ones who could give me a "will not exceed" estimate. It's nice to have one of those because it gives you peace of mind; you know no matter how little packing you do, that's the most they can charge you, period. Even so, I tried to pack as much as I could by myself to save as much as possible. The day of the move, the guys showed up within the 1 hour time window they gave me. We did a quick walk-through, where I showed them exactly what needed to be packed and moved for each room. The guy on point told me it would be an easy move, and off they went. For things that needed packing, they were able to do it very carefully and diligently. These items included kitchen plates/glasses, a couple TVs, etc. Within 2 hours, we left the place in SJ for SF. It took them about an hour and 15 minutes to get to my new place in SF, which is about what I expected for a big truck. The unloading and re-assembly took about an hour and forty-five minutes. The move was nearly perfect, but my office desk did have a small piece of particle board break off the side, which allowed the screw to become misplaced. I wasn't very happy about this, but he reminded me that I did sign a release earlier in the day when it came to particle board items, since they're known to break quite easily. He did use some gorilla glue to piece it somewhat back together. When I asked him whether I could file the standard 60 cents/pound claim, he said that I could but that it would require them to take my desk back to their location to examine it. I decided against it because it just wasn't worth the time/effort. All in all, though, I was quite happy with the move. Kelly, the salesperson, who did my estimate was very helpful and detail-oriented when giving the estimate. However, I was a bit frustrated after I told her of my decision to hire them; I wrote a few emails to and left a few voicemails for her with some follow-up questions, but she never responded. I had to call their office to have my questions answered. The 3 movers were extremely nice and worked very diligently yet carefully. I was very happy overall with my move, and would probably use Advantage again. Their hourly rate as on the higher end of the spectrum ($130/hour for 3 men), but I felt it was well worth it. I've learned that the moving business can be quite shady, but these guys were great. There were no hidden charges, which is something you should always watch out for. read more

We used Advantage for our move from San Jose to Los Angeles. Because we have 2 young kids and a dog, we needed their help with packing the entire house of 2000 square feet as well. I definitely recommend their service for the following reasons: 1. They came out to my place and did a thorough walkthrough of everything that needs to be moved (free, no obligation estimate) and provided me with a very detailed quote via email the next day. 2. The price for packing and moving long distance was reasonable. 3. Everyone from Advantage, from packers to loaders to unloaders, were extremely courteous and friendly. 4. They packed everything so well that absolutely nothing was scratched or chipped. I moved here in 2006 from Chicago and since that time I've moved 5 times, and I've used Advantage every single time. I can't even remember how I found them back in 2007 but I'm so glad I did. Every move I've had they've shown up on time, they were fast, efficient, friendly...I've never paid more than what was quoted and I've never had one thing broken. This last move, though, is what finally prompted a review: I was moving from a townhouse into a single family. In the years we lived in that townhouse we accumulated a ton of stuff (including one baby). I had crap in places I didn't even know was a storage spot. Anyway, I decided to have Advantage pack my kitchen as well. The estimator came over (she's fantastic), did a walk through, looked at my kitchen and emailed me the list and quote (the "you-don't-pay-more-than" quote). She was estimating my 3 bedroom move to take 4-5 hours, which seemed reasonable to me as my other moves (from 2 bedroom apts) were 2-4 hours, and this was a local move (same town). The guys (3 man team) showed up on time, I had coffee and bagels waiting, we walked through, pointed everything out and they got started. I knew there was a problem when we reached the 2 hour mark and not even half the house was loaded yet. They were busting their butts, too...no one sat around, no one slacked - they worked the whole time. I think packing my kitchen, alone, took 2 hours. One guy packed, the other guys loaded. Like I said, they are efficient. Well, this was so not a 4-5 hour move. I think we left for my new house sometime around the 4 hour mark. They looked exhausted but never complained and always had a smile on their face. We had pizza waiting for lunch and they hardly even took a break (I felt so bad!)...they jammed some food in and kept on working. They eventually got everything unloaded, set up the beds, etc., and were on their merry way. From start to finish, 8 hours. But true to their word, I only paid what was quoted. I feel like I totally ripped them off. I gave them all the cash I had for a tip (I think it was $120) but I should have doubled that. The point of this review is not to say "hey use them, you'll pay only half!," it's just to say how wonderful they are and even though everyone there that day knew I was totally getting a bargain, they still busted their butts. Not one complaint about how much crap there was, there were always smiles, they joked around with my 2 yr old. It's a great company with great employees and they've always treated me with respect, no matter my size of move. I can't say enough about good things about Advantage. I don't plan on moving again any time soon but I recommend them to everyone I know. read more

This is the second time we've hired Advantage Moving to pack and move our household, and we've been pleased on both occassions. We specifically asked for Edwin to manage the crew since he set such a professional, hard working tone during our first move. The movers were careful and did not damage anything, they did not complain about the heavy items we have (including our treadmill), took apart and re-assembled various furniture, and arrived / worked in a timely manner. While their initial quote was higher than the other movers by 30%, the final cost was the same as the other quotes (Advantage provided a not-to-exceed quote). I went with them because they were the only ones to do a true assessment, giving us confidence they knew what they were doing. They provided a full inventory of our items, calculated the man-power required, and claim with some certainty that 2 trucks were needed. The others thought they pack and could move us in one day with four guys and one truck, but it clearly required a 1/2 day to pack, and a full day of 5 guys and 1.5 trucks. Had we gone with any of the other three quotes it could have been a disaster. I highly recommend them. read more

I have a bad back and can't move more than a few boxes on my own. So, we've used this company three times to move along the Penninsula. They do an excellent job moving everything very quickly and safely. You'll get three guys and a truck. We noticed that two guys are usually very experienced and the third is in training. All of them have always been enthusiastic and hard working. On our third move, the guys had placed a bet that they could move us quicker than the previous three guys. I called the number and spoke to Chitra who was very friendly and helped me estimate the amount of time and number of movers needed. She also was very thorough and patient in answering all my questions. When I decided to book, Chitra sent me the contract via email in order to officially book the appointment. On moving day, Edwin, Giovanni, and Irvin came on time with a huge truck. They also provided many wardrobe boxes for us to use at no additional charge. I initially only wanted them to move all my large furniture and I would take all the small stuff myself but they were so fast and efficient they even helped me pack all my shoes, clothes, and garage supplies into all those wardrobe boxes. They were always friendly, upbeat, talkative, and moved even my heaviest boxes with ease. There would be so many times were I would be struggling to lift a box and one of them would come by with a smile and lift it out of my hands without me asking. When we arrived to unload at my new place, they were very careful in not scratching my new bamboo floors and not denting the walls and stairway. My bed frame and dining table were installed and they hooked up my fridge, washer and dryer without any problems. The day of the move, 4 workers came with the truck. We had the added work of switching the dishwasher and fridge from the old house to the new, which they did with absolutely no problem. This was a great company to work with during my move. I've used moving companies before and this one is by far the best. The people I worked with were all very professional and very nice. First I had a mini phone consultation with Kelly, then she came to my home to do a free estimate. She was great. Very courteous and she gave me tons of great info. The ONLY REASON THEY DID NOT GET 5 STARS WAS BECAUSE their estimate was actually way too low. My husband and I could only afford to pay for 3 movers for 3 hours, which we felt was going to be plenty since we were only moving across the street (from one third floor apartment to another). During the estimate we were told that this could definitely cover our large furniture and possibly some boxes. The problem was the movers themselves were TOO FAST!!! They ended up having all the large furniture, some smaller furniture, and almost all the boxes moved within 1 hour. My husband and I had to scramble to throw extra stuff in boxes for them to move. We even had them take apart our bed and rebuild it in the new apartment. In the end we had to send them home early because there was not enough for them to do! And since the company has a 3 hour minimum we had to pay anyway. I really wish the estimate would have been more accurate so I could have been fully prepared and be able to better use the time that I had to pay for. But all in all it was a great experience and I would certainly use them again. I even had a neighbor ask me for their information since they were so quick, professional, and careful with my things. read more

I have moved many times in my lifetime. Advantage is clearly the one that tops them all! Staff was courteous and professional. A real joy to work with and get the move done. Desperately need movers when we had to move out from our apartment to our condo in 2 days, I yelp-ed "the best moving company" near Milpitas/ San Jose. Most on the list are without the real address (office), just a phone. Well, I am more comfortable to deal with someone with real office. So I checked on Advantage, then went straight to their office without appointment. The guys in the office accepted my visit with respect and friendly but professional. The owner himself was there, Brian. He asked some basic questions, like how many bedroom, what's the biggest items, etc. Then he gave me an estimate of 3.5 hours to move my entire stuffs with 2 people. Not more, he said. I got a discount, too. I told him I need it fast, like the day after tomorrow. Then he offered, why not tomorrow ? I was liked crying in happiness. I left his place with relief. The very next day, the movers came on time with a big truck. Giovanni and Eduardo (I might be wrong remembering their name, been 2 months, so sorry). Omgz, these guys so strong, fast and worked non-stop. They also very careful and respectful handling our properties. I ran to buy them drinks and Mark's hotdogs, thinking they must be hungry after lifting our king size Tempurpedic like nothing! They done in 3.25 hours. 15 minutes early than the estimate time. Nothing was broken or chipped. Very pleased with the service. So pleasant to do business with Advantage. Courteous, friendly, professional, no BS. And, they have real office. :) read more

Don't even consider any other moving company. My move last week was the easiest and best move I have ever had. Advantage sent professionals, both competent and courteous people to move me. Cheerful, smiling, and polite, each of the individuals who packed me up the day before were so friendly and fun. The move the next day was handled so well - even with 2 flights of stairs - never a complaint or gripe about anything. Every time I felt badly about the flights of stairs, smiles and laughter ensued. So so different from other moving companies I have used in the past. I can't say enough good about this company. I will NEVER look at anybody else to move me. 5 stars isn't enough. This company is TOPS so don't even bother to contact anybody else. Go with Advantage!!! They are infinite plus stars as far as movers! read more

As good as it gets! I can't recommend them ENOUGH. Virtually every interaction gets at A-plus -- and I'm pretty picky. I needed storage, packing, and moving services. I had contracted with Trove for storage and they contract with some outside services who have obviously been well-vetted since my experience with Advantage Moving and Storage was equally excellent. If you need storage, call Trove. If you need moving you can't go wrong with the folks at Advantage. Seriously -- don't bother calling anyone else. read more

I just moved from San Jose California to South Carolina.Brian came out to give me a quote and then Paul came back after a month ,and a garage sale ,to finalize my transaction. Gilbert and Vinny helped me box my stained glass lamps ,glass tables and art work the day before my move. Vinny is a master packer !! Eddie was the driver and he was at my new house on time as promised.Nothing was broken and all my furniture was in great condition. Highly recommend this company and would use them again if needed.Chitra was in the office to keep us well informed about the whole process and to answer any questions.Great staff all around. read more

What a wonderful moving company! Showed up exactly when they said, packed the first portion carefully and put it into storage. Then came back a second time at closing and packed up the rest. Then combined both parts and moved everything out of state, arriving for unloading when they said. Placed everything where I wished, opened up high value boxes to be sure there was no damage, then cleaned up the mess before leaving. Nothing missing, no dents, no damage to furniture. This was an 11,000 pound move out of state and the only breakage was to one cut glass bowl. I consider that outstanding! read more

I spent the time with the estimator for an in-home survey and was told that I'd get my estimate by the end of the day. It's been almost TWO weeks & still nothing. Would I trust them with my household goods if I can't even count on getting my estimate? Ummmm, I think not. You might want to think twice as well. If they didn't want to accept my move, that's cool with me, but they could have at least contacted me to let me know. If I'm planning on spending at least a few thousand on a move, I don't think I should be the one chasing them around for my estimate. read more

I thought I'd reviewed Advantage before but I don't see my review here. This is long over due and well deserved. Advantage have moved me and my fiancé 4 times in the last 6 years. 1st move: flawless, on time, cheaper than they quoted, the movers were happy people to be around and made the move seem like a party. 2nd move:flawless, on time, cheaper than they quoted, the movers were happy people to be around and made the move seem like a party. 3rd move:flawless, on time, cheaper than they quoted, the movers were happy people to be around and made the move seem like a party. 4th move: They broke a glass table. As soon as they did it, they brought it to my attention and said they'd work with me on making it right. I got a quote to replace the table and they agreed to pay without any negotiation or fuss. I wish I could get this level of service in everything I do. Thanks Guys! See you next move! STOP THE PRESS!!!! I Was about to hit "post" and I got a phone call from the glass people. they said they had misquoted the price and it would be $100 more. I told them I would pay it because I had already agreed the price with advantage (see my other review for south bay glass). They called Paul at Advantage and he agreed to cover the extra cost!
