Sue Q.

I inquired with several moving companies and am so glad I ultimately chose Spartan for my move. Dave was very responsive throughout, even when I had a question during the actual move, and his team who came out were amazing (thanks Humberto and team)! They listened to my request to protect the stair railings and were very careful with my things. They were efficient and friendly, and I was pretty impressed at how smoothly the process went. Definitely recommend!

Making progress!!

When researching moving companies I was already very impressed with Spartan Moving Company's professionalism and friendliness over the phone. They gave me a rough estimate of the cost based on the square footage of my home and how many rooms I had. When moving day came they arrived on time and were very detail oriented with everything they took inventory of while loading the truck. Everything was protected and the wardrobe boxes they provided complimentary were a lifesaver!! They also made sure to point out if anything was already damaged which was thoughtful. Since we were moving from northern CA to southern CA it took a day until the movers arrived to move everything into our new home. It was a smooth process all around and I was very pleased with the experience. I highly recommend Spartan Movers whether you are moving locally or long distance!

Damaged rug.
Tina T.

I hate leaving bad reviews but here I am. There were 3 things that went wrong in this move and that's too much to overlook. 1.) Felix told me 3-4 movers would be there on move day. Only two men showed up. What would have taken 3-4 hours took much longer as a result. Not okay. Don't show up with 1/2 to 2/3ds of the crew you quote people for. 2.) the company moved our stuff into storage. When they got to the storage unit they piled all the boxes in completely haphazardly with no thought as to providing a path to access the boxes. They were just crammed in. 3.) now that we have moved stuff from storage into our house, we found that Spartan rolled up one of our rugs and folded it in half - completely ruining the rug. We have to throw out this expensive rug because someone folded it in half. Whyyyyyyyyy? So with these things in mind you know what to look out for if you decide to hire Spartan.

Moises, Jose, Camilo - our awesome moving team!
Crystal H.

We had a terrific moving experience with Moises, Jose, and Camilo who helped us move from a 3rd floor 3BR to a 6th floor 2BR within San Francisco. Specifically, they were champs who went above and beyond, as our building's elevator was broken the day of our move - and they still moved everything within 7.5 hours. Not a single dish, cup, or screen was broken - they were flexible, customer service oriented, and cheerful through the process. They also broke down and re-built a king size bed, computer desk, and entertainment center for us. My only advice for the team is to double check the moving rate listed on the contract slip (ours was off by $10/hr but was fixed expeditiously) and to provide a more detailed invoice with the moving supplies (we received a flat amount - wasn't line itemized.) Otherwise, we couldn't be happier with our experience!

Random guy very happy with quality moving service

Booking: I sent an inquiry directly with the company due to their stellar reviews, and they were able to schedule me in for my preferred time/day. The overall process was really convenient, especially because of their flexible time window. Moving: the two movers, Herman and Aleksei, were incredibly efficient and very sweet/patient throughout the move. I appreciate that they handled both my expensive & economical items delicately. Also, I wasn't completely prepared on my end with the move such as knowing details like where to park for loading/unloading or even which items to move vs discard, which I had been dreading for weeks. However, thanks to their expertise and versatility, the move was stress-free. And a huge shoutout to Herman for his guidance and coordination that really ensured a seamless experience. Overall, this company lives up to its 5-star rating, and I highly recommend Herman & Aleksei if they are available!

Paid a little over 2.5k to move a 630 sq ft 1b/1b 3 miles and had 3, and eventually 4 movers. Overall I'd say it was good, not great When I scheduled I explained I had two walkins with lots of clothes - they assigned me three people when I likely needed more as I had a walkup. We ended up totally missing the window for the move which is more my fault but I had asked the people who confirmed if they felt it was reasonable. They helped move the hanging items (which I expect) and had me pitch in to pack the glass despite having asked for them to send someone to do this. It's not an issue but I do think there was a general lack of communication bw the movers and the ppl who helped book that made the day less efficient than it could have been. I'm happy to pack those things as it gave me an outlet for my moving anxiety and saves me time ofc but even without packing glass it still took 9 hours When I realized we were pretty behind it was very easy to get someone else last minute at noon, so that was helpful and everyone coordinated quickly to make it happen. All the guys were also very respectful and carefully wrapped my furniture (table, 4 chairs, coffee and side table, large tv, bed and heavy lifting frame, chair desk and small wine fridge). I think I have a lot crammed in to a 1B and was overall a good experience, though not quite as smooth or efficient as my previous SF moves Pros: Crew is friendly Didn't break anything, including my fancy stemware Cleaned up after themselves removing wrap and paper Very efficient by helping me add an extra mover at a reasonable cost ($50hr) Cons: Timing ended up being totally off :( not their fault completely but I tried to communicate several times during booking I had a small elevator window and a lot of stuff Pretty pricey for a 1 bed 3 mile move

We had a challenging move from downtown S.F. to Berkeley, to a house that is in the middle of multiple construction projects. Yet they made everything feel easy. I had gotten food poisoning the day before and we were stressing because we hadn't yet finished packing. But it was no problem--they loaded the truck with the items that were ready to go while we packed the rest. Make sure to ask for Joseph and his team (Fernando and Victor). They arrived a little early so they'd be ready and were the utmost professional while also being a warm and friendly team of guys. We would have them over dinner any time. Because of Joseph I'm now convinced that moving is both an art and an athletic feat. We had a recliner (100lbs) and a treadmill (200lbs) that were too wide to go through a doorway--and yet he maneuvered them effortlessly through without a scratch on either.

DO NOT USE ROYAL MOVING & STORAGE…read more My experience involved deceptive billing, $1,348.35 being taken and later refunded after I fought the charges, a $204.85 tip intentionally added without my knowledge or approval, manipulative tactics by management, damaged property, and a missing item. I was quoted $627 to pack and move my business property into Royal's storage. The crew was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. but arrived around 10:30. I did not receive the invoice until the move was complete and my property was already at Royal's Oakland facility. The bill was $2,048.50 before tip and included: * 5.5 billed hours, although Royal's records show 10:31 a.m.-2:58 p.m.--4 hours and 27 minutes of actual work. * $480 for complimentary moving pads. * $100 for bubble wrap the return driver confirmed was never used. * $90 for wardrobe boxes advertised as complimentary. * $100 for an item supposedly over 300 pounds, although the return driver confirmed none existed. * A $204.85 tip I never approved, authorized, or knew about. I had already given the crew a $60 cash tip based on the $627 quote. When I saw the inflated bill, I specifically told the driver not to charge my card because management and I were disputing it. A manager later confirmed that management had also told him not to process the payment. He processed $2,253.35 anyway and intentionally added a $204.85 tip for himself without my knowledge or approval. I did not discover it until I received the invoice the next day. This was not an accidental selection or billing error. He was told not to charge the card, charged it anyway, and deliberately took another $204.85. That is theft. Royal tried to claim its payment screen automatically defaulted to a tip. The driver's own screenshots contradict that explanation: they show "Tip Amount 0," "No tip," and "Add No Tip." The tip had to be selected and added. I spent five or six days dealing with multiple managers to recover my money. Rather than immediately correcting the bill, management used manipulative tactics and selectively quoted portions of Royal's website and estimate while ignoring language contradicting their claims. Management first claimed moving pads and blankets were different. Then they claimed the $480 was charged because the pads would remain in storage and would be refunded when returned. Royal eventually admitted this supposed charge was not disclosed anywhere. The return driver confirmed that pads and blankets are the same and Royal does not charge storage customers for them in any capacity. He also confirmed no bubble wrap was used and no item exceeded 300 pounds. Royal eventually corrected the legitimate bill to $905 and refunded $1,348.35. This was not a discount, compensation, or goodwill. It was my own money being returned after invalid charges were removed. Royal did not discount the corrected bill by one penny. Management admitted the intentionally added tip was unacceptable and should never have happened, but later confirmed the employee was still employed. Royal cannot credibly say intentionally taking a customer's money is unacceptable while retaining the person who did it. Once management knew exactly what happened and chose to keep him, this became a reflection of the company--not merely one dishonest employee. It told me everything I needed to know about Royal's character and business ethics. The problems continued. During the billing dispute, I told a manager I was worried about my stored property because this employee and his coworkers still had access to everything my business owned. She guaranteed my belongings would be fine. When Royal returned them, a massage table and water dispenser were damaged and a TV wall mount was missing. My documented replacement costs were $316.13. Royal did not respond to my claim for about a week, then twice claimed it had not received emails that showed as delivered. I finally had to resubmit everything through a text link. Royal offered only $200 as a "gesture of goodwill." Partially paying for property damaged or lost while in its possession is not goodwill. It is another refusal to take full responsibility. Mistakes happen. What defines a business is how management responds. Royal defended invalid charges, gave explanations contradicted by its own records, made me fight nearly a week to recover $1,348.35, retained an employee who intentionally stole more than $200 from me, and refused to fully cover documented damaged and missing property. In my experience, Royal Moving & Storage cannot be trusted with your property, credit card, or money. I strongly warn others not to use this company.
