I recently graduated school when suddenly my Macbook gave up on me. Money is super tight at the moment trying to pay back student loans and bills. I was trying to hold off as long as possible to fix my mac when suddenly the screen went black and would not turn back on. This issue has happened in the past but I was able to fix it temporarily with the command option p r reset for a few months. Fast forward to this week when all hope was lost and the screen was unresponsive...I took my device into the Apple Store at the Grove where they informed me that it was related to the visual card and it would need to be replaced and it would cost me around $500 (at this point he recommended a new $1000 laptop would be better). I have some knowledge regarding laptops and realized it definitely was not that issue and the Apple store employee was just trying to sell me a product. When using my laptop for like 2 minutes the image would go "double vision" he said I would have to have the screen replaced which would be $399. I gave it 1 Star for communication! Communication is KEY with any business! Which this business lacked! I dropped off my laptop in the morning, the Indian guy told me he would do a Free "diagnostic" on my computer to see what is going on which would take an hour and he would call me. Ok awesome so I went to run some errands and like 1 hour passed I'm like ok he will call soon! (He didn't!) And then 3 hours passed!(he didn't call!) Now I'm wondering if he fixed my computer without my consent! So I called like 4 hours later wondering about my laptop and the lady says "Oh it takes 24 hours" like what's going?! Which one is it?! 1 or 24 hours?! Like match your answers you guys work together! So I had to call first to see what was going on! That's stupid! Then to make matters worse he told me that my computer would get fixed later that day or no later the next day and once again he ends by saying, "BUT ILL CALL YOU" guess what he didn't! Communication is key! So I called once again to make sure since they won't update me I have to be calling! They finally informed me that it would be ready the next day! I pick it up and I notice like a crease/crack on my screen but I totally brushed it off thinking it was dirt or something. Come to see, there's a CRACK! Like you claim to use NEW Apple products?! MacPro LA is a lifesaver! My 2016 MacBook Pro's logic board fried in the midst of a Time Machine backup, and the tech at the third-party repair place offering a same-day appointment through Apple.com told me that they'd have to replace the logic board/hard drive and all my data on my hard drive was 95% likely to be unrecoverable, even via a data-recovery service (for a large fee regardless of whether they recovered anything, he said). So while they were waiting for the new board to arrive I went ahead and took my computer back and brought it to MacPro LA, who saw me same-day without an appointment. They let me know the next business day (at no charge) that not only was all my data completely fine and recoverable, but they could also repair the logic board instead of replacing it -- all for the same price as the other place (that would have lost all my data). I highly recommend this place, Ray the shop manager is super communicative and very helpful. I purchased a used iMac 27" earlier this year from the shop, a couple months later I started to have some issues with the display. Brought it in for repair and a couple weeks later the problem returned. But what makes this place different from other used Mac stores is that Ray fully replaced the machine. The people who work here are great, he gives me tips and sends me to Apple when warranties are covered. Got a new logic board on my 5 year old MacBook Pro thanks to Ray. I ended up getting a 2019 with an 8-core 19 32 ram! I got a great deal! at first I was skeptical because I did not get the 2020, but Ray explained to me why the one I was getting was actually better even though it was a year back. I did my research and Rey definitely knows Apple products. Started having issue with iMac, spoke with Apple support and after several attempts to fix issue, they gave me the name of one of their authorized repair center. After speaking with them they referred me to MacPro-LA. NIGHTMARE!! Faulty machines, amateur tech service and uncaring customer service MacPro LA sold me a faulty machine that they replaced with another failing machine. They had me reinstall the operating system and all 20+ pieces of software I use daily 3 times before accurately diagnosing the first problem. Then they replaced the machine and the second problem culminated in the new computer crashing DEAD in the middle of a high pressure, time sensitive job. This all cost me weeks of time, many trips across town to their shop, and caused over a month delay in my work. As an independent Music Producer and Photographer, using their machines has jeopardized my relations with several clients, caused untold headaches and cost me A LOT money. When I brought my monetary loss to the owner's attention he responded "we can't take responsibility for that". He offered to replace the machine with an equal machine (which I can only imagine would fail me again) or upgrade me to something better at the full retail value. Cool. Thankfully I got a refund, but even that, I can't say they did right by me as I had originally traded a machine in way under value and paid $200 more than other local Mac specialists were charging for the same set up. What can I say... I was hoping to support my local business. Sad. Now they have three machines with my data on them, haven't provided me with confirmation of erasing it as promised and won't return my phone calls. That's MacProLA customer service. The owner's parting words to me were "I hope you don't think we sell bad machines", but that is exactly what my experience has shown... they sell bad machines and don't take responsibility for the consequence to their customer. This is all just a summation. My frustrations would fill several pages. If you need a solid machine, DO NOT TRUST THEIR WORK. I wound up doin exactly what I hoped to avoid... going to the Apple Store and dropping the $5K+ on a new machine and all the adapters needed. I hope this helps someone. Jason read more
