It's important for you to know how much I appreciate the people at Melrose Mac. AppleCare replaced a logic board on my 2022 MacBook Pro and told me that I would have no problem reinstalling all my stuff from a Time Machine backup on an NAS. I've done this before with no issues ... but for some reason, no soap. The backup would get to selecting the back up and say "Loading Backup" ... forever. Six hours at a time. Nine hours once. It would not find purchase no matter what I tried. I sat on the phone with Apple technical support for three hours. Nothing. I called my friends who work in IT. Fail. I tried multiple things I knew how to do -- install a base OS and try to use Migration assistant from there, try decrypting the files manually ... for a solid week I was vexed until Ryan, I was advised to try and buy a Mac Mini to see if the backup would install on that, but Ryan knew the older one I bought wouldn't be able to handle the files. He listened, he considered and he had the solution: hook an ethernet cable to a USB-C hub and connect that on one side to the MBP, on the other side to the wi-fi router. Six hours later, on a like-new computer, all my files and applications are back up like nothing ever went wrong. All because of Ryan, and the patient people at Melrose Mac (who didn't charge me to restock the old Mini). Decades worth of files, curated musical playlists from the 90s. Ryan also sold me a 2TB hard drive, where I backed up all the files *again* to avoid this happening again. Melrose Mac was, in every way careful, attentive, smart, understanding and ready to serve. When I tell you, I was completely surprised at the level of courtesy and consideration that I experienced yesterday when I went into MelroseMAC- I am not exaggerating when Josh Smart went above and beyond in helping me. I had a USB drive that crashed and was no longer recognized by my MacBook Pro. I've been working on Legal situation for three full days and all of a sudden all of the information disappeared. Of course I didn't think to back up that little stick drive and you know that's the first and last time that's gonna happen. In any case, Josh could've easily said it's not a Mac problem and it looks like it has to do with your USB thumb drive, go to a data recovery specialist. He did not dismiss me. Instead he took the time to evaluate what the problem was and actually called a data recovery place in Burbank for me to go to. In this day and age, this level of consideration and professional courtesy is rare, and I want to make note of it. Happy to say the place that he sent me to was able to unlock the corrupted files and I was able to access all the information. I don't know if I would've gotten to a resolution as fast as I did without Josh's help. This is not the first time I've gone to this business. And every time I've gone, I've left feeling good about whatever transaction was made. If you don't wanna deal with the insanity at The Grove or other official, Apple stores, this is absolutely the place to go to. read more

Made an appointment for IPhone battery service at noon. Walk in at 11:57, get told to open diagnostics on my phone. Service rep walks off. I'm standing at the counter for 10 minutes before he comes back and says their tech is busy, maybe they can have it done by the end of the day. How to improve: Don't take appointments unless you have capacity to fulfill them. If you take an appointment but are unsure of your capacity, be nice to the person who booked it. Instead of making them stand at the counter for ten minutes, try : "Do you mind taking a seat while I check on the technician?availability?" Few big improvements, I know immediately you might not have capacity, I'm seated waiting, you were polite. "You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them." read more

When you go in, and you get it all squared away, what you need done, ask for the price again. I was told on the phone 89.99 for a new battery installed. This price, 89.99 is what Apple charges, so I thought "oh, they charge same as Apple store." After that phone conversation, the price wasn't discussed, and it didn't appear on the order slip I was handed after I dropped off the phone. However, when it was time to pay, suddenly the price was 109, so around 119 after taxes. I told them I was quoted 89.99, and the guy said "that's full price (109)." Weird way to end what was otherwise a pretty straight forward, pleasant experience. edit: note, the price was quoted AFTER they confirmed whether or not they had my battery in stock, they knew the phone model... I'm not saying their response is a lie, but they should definitely be more careful about quoting the correct price if they vary... from google "A battery replacement for an iPhone 12 mini through Apple costs $89 out of warranty"... call an apple store yourself, ask to see... but by Melrose Mac's own logic, their response, they wouldn't have quoted me a price until they knew the model... so think about that... edit2: See that Melrose did a partial refund so I paid what I was originally quoted... that was very cool of them... again, I gave them 4 stars... make sure to ask about the price, maybe get it in writing... read more

So, one day I wake up confused and my comp won't turn on. I came by and was helped by Josh who was extremely helpful and nice and helped me piece together the last few things that happened with my MacBook (without the usual patronizing 'did you try turning it off and on?' that you might get at most places). They ran diagnostics on my comp, and sent really nice email updates, and were also super considerate, like asking me multiple times if I'd be ok with my comp getting wiped if needed, and asking if I was OK with my laptop stickers possibly getting lost. The comp came back, and all the stickers were intact (also my repair fees were somehow waived from AppleCare?!). I'm sure this all might be a once in lifetime thing, but I really appreciate Josh being so helpful and calm through the whole process! Definitely coming back again if I have more Mac woes! read more

I've been a patron of MM for a number of years now, and they always exceed my expectations. Yesterday I took my iPhone in on a whim. I have no idea how the store is an authorized A.D. for Apple. I came in there today and they told me that they were incapable of fixing a broken MacBook screen that only had internal damage. Then he went to the back and came out and said we can do it for $1500. I immediately went to Apple right after and I got quoted half of that cost. Staff was friendly and appointments were available sooner than at the Apple Stores in the areas, which I really appreciated! My laptop wouldn't charge and unfortunately, their protocol is to run $80 diagnostic testing which would take 1-3 days. Once diagnosed, the repair would take another 7-10 business days and likely cost a couple hundred dollars, but TBD dependent on the results of the diagnostic testing. I was really hoping for a quick assessment of the problem and solution in a timely manner, as I use my computer for work. Should've saved myself the trip and just hit the Genius Bar :/ The store is very clean and the staff were accommodating and understanding, but unfortunately their protocol doesn't really work for busy people with urgent repairs! read more

They should NOT be claiming to be certified Lenovo repair shop. Absolutely crummy customer support. Why would they even take the repair job when they cannot fix the laptop? They said they just became certified to fix Lenovo laptops when I went in and claimed they should be able to fix how slow the laptop was by updating it. I personally updated the laptop and did everything they would've done so I implored them to look deeper but alas, all they knew how to do is to just update the OS.
