I loved this place when it opened and over the last year or so it seems empty when we go in. One time recently I went in with friends and no one was there to greet us. I yelled a few times because I heard someone in the back talking, but still no one came. We left and went somewhere else. Gave it another shot after that. Food was good, service was slow, place was empty. Hope this place picks up again, in service and popularity. We'd love it to survive in our neighborhood. Our go-to fav is the pineapple fried rice. Great spot for a date night or a casual meal with a friend. Lots of fun cocktails on the menu I'd like to try. Every time I've been there have been plenty of comfy tables available and the staff has been very attentive. We ordered larb gai (3 star spicy but I'll get 4 star next time!) and the Khao soi with chicken - both delicious. The larb was fresh & limey but I wish it came with more lettuce/cabbage! Came here and got the $40 Plate of Nations combo meal for 2. Highly recommend. It was a great deal considering it comes with a drink, papaya salad, two 3.5 oz steaks with Thai style chimichurri, and small bowls of kao soi. Great portion sizes. Most people don't make their way to Columbia City, which is a shame because they're missing out on a genuinely great restaurant. I've tried a variety of dishes from here, and everything has been consistently solid. On this visit, I ordered the Kao Soi, a Northern-style curry with egg noodles, crispy chicken, mustard greens, shallots, and roasted chili. It came with four small pieces of fried chicken and one chicken leg. There were also some fried egg noodles on top, which I always find fun and interesting. They add an amazing crunch, but you do need to eat them quickly before they get soggy. The curry itself was rich, aromatic, and comforting. Especially during cold weather (like right now). Even with how good the Kao Soi was, my favorite dish from this spot is still the Pad See Ew, wide rice noodles stir-fried with egg, Chinese broccoli, and soy bean sauce. No matter which protein you choose, it's always perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The crispy crab wontons were another standout. Each bite had the perfect balance of crunch and creaminess, the golden, crackly shell held a smooth, flavorful filling with just the right amount of crab. They weren't heavy or greasy at all, and honestly tasted great even without the sauce. They came with a sweet-and-sour dip, but I thought the wontons were better on their own. Parking is street parking only, which can be hit or miss. If you want to avoid the hassle, I'd recommend taking the T-Link, it's about a 10-minute walk from the station. Placed an order online at 7 PM on a Thursday. I received a text that my food would be ready between 7:25-7:30. I arrived at around 7:25 to a mildly busy restaurant and I was immediatly helped by a kind waitress. My food was luckily ready so I could take it and go. The vibes of the restaurant seemed great, with nice comfortable seating so next time I'd consider eating in. I got the crispy crab wontons and pad see ew with chicken. The crispy crab wontons were delicious I would definitely get them again. The pad see ew was quite good. Got it with a 3/4 spice and I could taste the spice so that was great! The khao soi I ordered was so delicious with the fried chicken bites in there so crispy and juicy. I don't remember them asking for spice level specification so everything was on the milder side. I want to try more noodle dishes here though! Tom yum fried rice with beef: my favorite Tom yum fried rice is at Ocha in Renton (I don't gatekeep restaurants!), but I'd say this one comes second! Happy to see this Thai restaurant in the heart of Columbia City! The space is nice and welcoming, with friendly staff. Service was a little on the slow side even with not many other guests in the restaurant! I got the chicken kee mao noodles with 2 stars (out of 4). It wasn't spicy at at all. The dish was good with lots of vegetables however, the noodles themselves lacked some flavor. Tom yum soup- 4/5 hit the spot Pad see ew- 4/5 this was pretty good, it has the wok hey taste (kinda reminds me of chow fun) Khao soi- 5/5 I love ordering khao soi at different Thai restaurants to compare them. This one is def up there! I didn't even end up using the spicy sauce (shocking because I looove spicy food) because I didn't want it to mask the curry taste. Also everyone who worked at the restaurant was soo sweet. Someone mentioned that khao soi is from their hometown and they make it taste exactly that way. The quality and the price is unbeatable! A fantastic addition to Columbia City! The ambiance is trendy and modern inside, and the staff is incredibly nice and attentive. We ended up ordering the cashew chili rice plate with added pork belly, and it felt comfy and home cooked. We greatly enjoyed khao soi - the curry was creamy and flavorful. We asked for level 2 spicy which didn't really feel spicy at all. Their glasses of wine are currently $12, and their bottles are currently $35, which I think is a good deal. They have creative cocktails for $12 as well. I think this restaurant can really shine in the small Columbia City downtown area. We definitely hope to come back again! read more

Maa Kiin is a new Thai restaurant on Rainier, in the middle of Columbia City. This puts them in competition with Bua 9 Thai, a few blocks further south. Now, don't get me wrong, Bua 9 has great food, but it is more of a take-out joint. Sure, they have seating, but there is zero atmosphere or ambiance. Maa Kiin, on the other hand, has a gorgeous interior. The food is beautifully presented as well as delicious. I'd happily go on a date there, and they have a few dishes I hadn't tried before, such as the Khao soi. There's an interesting cocktail menu, too, that I look forward to experiencing. We're lucky to have such a great new restaurant open in our neighborhood! read more

Came here for early dinner with a couple friends. Small restaurant felt intimate and trendy with exposed brick and booths outfitted with cushions to lounge on. We were the only ones in there, I think, aside from a few people who came in to pick up carry-out orders, so our visit was quiet. Our server was pleasant and mostly left us alone to visit after taking our orders and dropping off our food. They have a good looking cocktail menu. I ordered a Havana Sidecar which was a bit on the sweet side for me. I'll order something else next time which hopefully will be easier on the syrup. Green curry is not my usual go-to for Thai, but it sounded good this day and was tasty. I'm a leftovers person, but I ate it all in one sitting. Super tasty Thai restaurant now open in Columbia City! The pad see ew reminded me of eating in Thailand - flavorful and charred/stir fried well! The panang curry was the perfect consistency, not too thick or thin. The juices/flavor of the sizzling beef was soo tasty and easy to chew (not too fatty). And also went well with the garlic green beans! We were saying how the green beans reminded us of the ones from Naam (in Madrona) and we found out they're owned by the same people and Naam's head chef preps sauces and some food for them. To top it off, we had the mango sticky rice! Mango is in season and was perfect! I wish the sticky rice had a bit more coconut flavor (from the coconut milk/cream) but that's just my personal preference. Pretty standard Thai iced tea and fun cocktails that are reasonably priced. I also went a second time and got chicken pad thai, which was average. It had good flavor but I wish it was pan fried a bit more (maybe more sauce..?) as the noodles look sort of plain. The spice levels aren't that spicy, so if you like spice I'd recommend asking for chili oil/flakes. Prices are pretty decent for entrees ($14-18) but add $2 for beef, $3 for prawns, and $5 for seafood. Overall, 10/10 would recommend! We tried this new Thai restaurant in the middle of summer and were very impressed. We came in midday when the restaurant was empty. Service was just right - there when we needed them, but not hovering. We got the spring rolls, fresh rolls, green papaya salad, lard Gai, pad see ew, grilled salmon curry, and pad price king. Everything was so yummy. Same for the cocktails and non-alcohol drinks. The 3* was truly quite spice (3 out of 5), and I like very spicy food, so I wouldn't recommend choosing 4 or 5 unless you know you can take the heat. (Or maybe it varies depending on who's cooking.) The food I ordered was all really good. The kao soi was super tasty and they packaged it well with the noodles and toppings separate from the curry so it wouldn't get soggy. Authentic Thai Food in Columbia City! This is my first time here and the food was amazing. The portions were plenty to feed two people. 1. Grilled Octopus: cooked perfectly, nice and tender. The dipping sauce was a spicy fish sauce similar to "crack sauce" highly recommend ordering this as an appetizer 2. Pad See Ew: is more on the lighter side in terms of color but the flavor was still there. The noodles and tofu had the fire-wok flavor which made it delicious 3. Kao Soi: the kitchen were out of chicken drumsticks so we sub for crispy chicken. The chicken reminded me of Korean fried chicken with how crispy it was. The kasoy broth had a lot of coconut cream flavor but balanced. It's served with pickled mustard greens & chili oil. I've been to Maa Kiin before and ordered a bunch of food for the family to go- it was delicious, priced correctly and quick. When I came back again for myself, the experience was largely different. The pad thai was bland, even with the spice. Wait time was upward of 30 minutes for one person to go. (The restaurant had less than 10 people seated as well.) She was warm, happy, patient, and accommodating throughout the service. The food and drinks were excellent. The fresh rolls tasted really fresh! The peanut sauce just had a slight kick. We ordered a few things to share: Crispy Crab Wontons, Green Bean Garlic with crispy pork belly, Mussamun Curry, Larb Gai, a mojito, and a Thai iced coffee. Everything was way better than expected. Spice levels are 1-4, we ordered a 3 expecting it to be nice and spicy. Only the Larb Gai came out with any heat on it though, and it was still more mild than expected.
