In my quest for the perfect acrylic fill and manicures, I have covered the spectrum of offerings. To name a few: private nail artists who earn as much as an IT manager by the hour, glossy spas with the slick polish of a modern bar, and the carbon-copy low rent nail places with the same dusty 1980s posters and sanitation conditions which send health inspectors for their flamethrowers and violation signs. Rarely can I find a quality place without sky-high prices or pretentious attitudes. It shouldn't take a Faustian bargain to arrange a relationship with a good nail place, and fortunately, Mephistopheles can appear in a cloud of blue smoke in some other girl's living room.
Luxury Nails is the only place in the Detroit area I get my nails done. At the expense of narrowing availability of appointments and causing major publicity, I encourage you to do the same.
O Luxury Nails, how I love thee. Let me count the ways: quality, cleanliness, friendliness, service, TOFU. A good start, I should think.
The moment you walk in the door to Luxury Nails, you are treated as a friend and a client in the best of both worlds. Nail technicians greet you with a smile and a personalized hello; they make a point of remembering their repeat clients and calling them by name. On my first visit, Tofu introduced himself and asked who I was. By the end of the appointment, he had the details down pat so when I stepped in again, he greeted me by name and asked how I was doing. None of the inane chatter to fill time goes in one ear and out the other here. I had to smile when he shared a story or two about how a mother and daughter had been separate clients, and when they came in together, he was delighted to learn they were related. Little touches like this speak of a world of service and familiarity that's increasingly lost.
The salon is neat, tidy, and just about spotless. I have no fear of dipping my feet into one of their washed pedicure stations or letting my nails bake under UV light. Personal stations gleam from good maintenance and technicians wear surgical masks while working on your nails. Who wants to enter a dirty, grimy pit when seeing to personal beauty? Not me, and Luxury Nails shares that view.
How can I not like having a can of pop or a bottle of water as soon as I enter? The mini-fridge is stocked and long straws are at hand to avoid chipping a work in progress. Waiting in the cushy black couches with a magazine or watching TV put to a good station with closed captioning is no skin off my nose. For longer waits, there's a cookie bakery nearby too.
I can't say enough positive things about the staff, who treat me like a customer instead of whisking me through in dead silence. They are gems. The postcard collection on the wall speaks to the fondness of other patrons too.
Tofu, an owner and the happiest guy in Clawson, always does my nails. He makes a lengthy process of an acrylic fill a breeze with good conversation and being all-around awesome. He offers helpful suggestions for polish combinations and does repairs in a snap. Even when I've gnawed on my cuticles and let the nails grow a bit long due to busy-ness, he restores me to a glamorous look that never ceases to impress. I get many compliments on his quality work. He's good as gold. I'll take him as a personal nail stylist when I get rich some day.
Luxury Nails gets top marks for selection of OPI, Essie, and China Glaze polishes in a full range and no icky bottles. Ulta doesn't match their selection sometimes. Prices are extremely reasonable, and small services added on the side are outstanding. I haven't walked out of here once unhappy!
Now I share the treasure map with you, and it's on your own head if you end up broke, roughed up, and unhappy on the floor of a skeezy nail dive somewhere. read more
