After hearing about Georgi's from a friend, i had to check Yelp afterwards, naturally. It's easy to see why they have such great reviews after scheduling my appointment. The receptionists are very helpful in checking for availability and asking the right questions before coming in. You'll find comfort in seeing how clean and well kept the facility is. They also offer water and mints while you wait. I was lucky enough to be booked with Alex, who is now my all time favorite. She made me feel really comfortable, she's incredibly knowledgeable and recommended products (without any pressure) that i now use daily and have found to be really helpful. I have been a loyal Birmingham client for years and I am so happy to welcome them to Royal Oak. ********** So....this review definitely falls into the "a little bit TMI but much too good not to yelp about" category. I don't mean to brag...but I am sort of an expert at brazillian waxes (wait...is that even something to brag about?? oh well). A little history for you. My husbands job used to be very mobile. We traveled all over the place. Lived in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago...etc etc. I am very anti-shaving so in every city I always had to find a good waxer. SO...needless to say I was waxed in many cities by many different people. Some were good...some were bad...but I definitely feel like I am at the point where I can refer to myself as a expert judge as to what a good waxer should be. Georgi's is very spa like. It is very clean, welcoming and relaxing. The second you walk in the door you are immediately given a warm hello and offered some water. Onto the waxing. There is no way to sugar coat a brazillian wax. You are basically getting naked from the waist down and having hair ripped out from your most private of areas. But honestly....this really truly was one of the least painful brazillians that this "expert" has ever had. Georgi is very fast and efficient and makes the whole experience as "un-awkward" as she can. She uses large waxing strips so the whole process goes a lot quicker....and when you are getting a bikini wax the quicker the better! To cap it off, waxes here are relatively affordable AND they even has discounts for first time customers as well as repeat customers. Bonus! Michigan is VERY lucky to have Georgi's in the area. It is hard to find a waxer as good as her (or any of her expert employees)...so if you are looking to take the leap into brazillian waxing (or any kind of waxing for that matter) contact Georgi's...trust me. Not a lot of waxing providers in the RO area, so as one of the only options I was optimistic. They're located along Main Street, so you have to pay for parking, which I'm neutral on. The facility itself is very nice and serene. The actual waxing service, though, left a lot to be desired. I got a lower leg wax and the esthetician did it in a very odd way where she put the wax on almost a full half of each leg before pulling it (and the hair) off. I was willing to go with it, maybe she knows a superb new tactic, who knows! But when I got home, I realized there were swaths if hair that she missed and a number of sections weren't fully waxed, the hairs were just broken off. Since the actual service is the most important part of a business like this, I've only given 3 stars. If I return and get a different esthetician and it's a better experience, I'm willing to adjust, only time will tell. read more

Waxing - it is never a pleasant experience....anywhere that you get waxed. (Even your eyebrows!) But, yes, I go to Georgi's for the most "pleasant" experience - the Brazilian. Us girls don't enjoy getting it done - but we do it. And if you are going to have an unpleasant experience, make sure it is with amazing place and person! I go to Olivia to get my waxing done. What I love about her most of all, is that she talks to you throughout the whole ordeal...she remembers your last conversation from 6 weeks ago! And with her doing that, you ALMOST forget that you are getting your hairs ripped out of your skin. You still feel pain, but it is bearable. I used to go to girls that would give me breathing techniques...Olivia doesn't even let you think about it. They also sell amazing soaps and lotions! I used to out of my way to this place because yelp told me it was the best waxing place in the area. The pros are that its super cute atmosphere and the girls there are very nice. But the quality of the waxing leaves much to be desired. I went here 3-4 times and every time I walked out in about 10 minutes (for a full Brazilian and underarm). I thought it was because my hair was getting thinner after having waxed for about 1.5 years. But after the third time I realized it was because they never got all of the hair. The area was extremely patchy, and it wasn't because my hair wasn't long enough (I wait over 4 weeks in between each wax). Because they didn't get all the hair, my hair would start growing back to its original length within days of the wax. I finally stopped trying to convince myself this wax was worth the money and looked else where. I was able to find Luma in Troy which is right in my town and they take their time and get every single hair. They even offer touch ups within a week if they missed any hairs. I think the problem with this place is that they do so many waxes that they start lacking on quality. So if you notice your hair growing out way earlier than usual, try switching to a different place. You'll see a world of difference! read more

Found this place on Yelp, and the reviews don't lie! Went on the search for a reputable waxing studio when I had a hard time getting an appointment at my regular place. Called on a Monday and they were able to fit me in mid-day Saturday. Very nice location, just off of Main Street with a lot of metered parking right across the street. When I walked in, my initial thought was "this is how all waxing salons should look". Everything was clean and white, it made me feel incredibly fancy without being uncomfortable. The friendly desk staff had me fill out a short info sheet for their files and then it was time for my appt! I was led to a comfy private waxing room where I got undressed. They provide you with a small robe to put on from the waist down for a Brazilian. My wax was done by Aliyah (I will make sure I'm spelling it right and edit after my next appt). She did a fantastic job. Super professional and made me really comfortable considering the delicate nature of a Brazilian wax. She told me everything she was doing and why. They apply some sort of cooling solution immediately after each strip is removed, and it felt so good! Everything was very sanitary and clean. They use new sticks with each application as to not "double-dip", gloves, disposable cloth sheet under me, the whole bit. I am extremely happy with my results and made my next appt before leaving so that I get 10% next time. read more

Waxing in southeast Michigan/southwest Ontario should be synonymous with Georgi's, full stop. Why would you bother going anywhere but a pristine environment with top-notch hygienic standards, amiable and experienced waxers, and little touches to enhance the experience? Certainly I can't stress this enough: if you are going to let them tend to your most treasured goods, your waxing studio needs to be the best. Dirty rooms or painful techniques with a hatchet faced artist do not justify saving a whole $10. I make the hike into Birmingham on a regular basis, fighting traffic off Woodward the whole way. Lucky for me the recent opening of their second outpost in Royal Oak alleviates some of the commute stress and opens more appointments in coveted timeslots on weekends and weeknight evenings. Maybe it's not the wisest idea to share my fanfare and love of Georgi's, on second thought, if I want to keep those appointments. Let's be honest: the sophisticated, hip employees to a number make me wish I were more stylish and they put me at ease in their capable hands. I tried almost everyone in Birmingham but I profess faithfulness to my favourite waxer in Royal Oak, who I followed gladly down there, and see every five weeks or so. Like a good hairstylist, you want someone who knows your preferences and adjusts to your body. Super sensitive? You will appreciate the light, sure touches and many ways Georgi's staff are trained to ease the sting or burn. Apprehensive? Don't be, they will be happy to ease your experience by answering questions and being forthright and professional. They encourage you to speak up if need be. Without too much detail, I'm very experienced with Brazilians and know the difference between a decent, great, and superior waxing. There will always be a level of discomfort at mid-scale hair removal using hot wax, but never pain when done properly. Georgi's nails a superior level through use of warm wax and large cloth strips. Pain? Nearly nil. Cool gel is liberally applied to help take out any redness and nearly all products used here are friendly to the environment and sensitive skin. Nor are you required to adopt any awkward inverted yoga poses to get the job done, and a fat supportive foam wedge gets used to manipulate you into any positions. Believe me, I wish I had that pillow at my last pilates class. Georgi's is a cut above because of their attention to detail, both at a physical and site level. This lovely new building refurbished a shop just off Main Street in Royal Oak, and the bright, modern palate really works. Everything is spotless as can be. Staff work hard to keep the studios spic and span. Every visit, an employee is washing the windows, sweeping the floors or carrying fresh laundry back and forth. It smells and feels exactly like a waxing temple should: fresh and tidy. They also have a brow waxing bar for quick jobs that lacks the privacy of the closed studio rooms but a great view of downtown through the frosted glass. It's separate from the waiting area so you can let go of your cares. Water is offered, and possibly tea. The studio also has a variety of other services in addition to waxing. read more

I get brazilians on the regular. This place is great and thorough. They use a soft wax with muslin strips. She also tweezed stray hairs. After the wax, they use a machine to go over your skin to close the pores which will help prevent in-growns. Make sure to mention that you're new to this place, 20% off if you're a NEWBIE. So I debated leaving a review but I wanted to just in case another person might have a similar experience. I did not get a full Brazilian but did get something very similar and let me tell you what a traumatic experience this has been. When I had gotten it done the lady who did my wax seemed irritated and wasn't the most pleasant which was disappointing because I was extremely nervous. During the waxing I felt pain but I thought it was normal and to be expected. I was breathing very hard because of the pain and how nervous I was to which my waxer told me "if you don't stop and get your breathing under control your gonna pass out" in a frustrated tone. After the wax was complete she wiped off the area and told me to get dressed. I left feeling in pain but again thought this was normal. I went to bed that night and woke up in extreme pain and felt a burning that I had never felt before when I got up and went to the bathroom I saw that I was covered in blisters and my skin was bright red. I took pain pills from a previous surgery and went back to bed. The next day the pain was unbearable so I reached out to salon to have a manager call me back. The manager called me back and asked if my waxer had put on the soothing gel after the wax which I told her she had not to which she responded well she told me she did and she's worked for us for a long time. She then apologized for my negative experience. She asked me to send her pictures so that she would believe that what I was saying was truthful which I did. However, I later received a call from the owner of the studios telling me she was so sorry for this experience and she issued me a refund. She also advised me to go to the urgent care to get it checked out and she also advised me it was soy wax used in case of allergy. She was much more pleasant to talk to and so far the only person who seemed to genuinely care about my experience. That evening I went to urgent care and the doctors were in shock to see the damage. They told me I had second degree burns and cellulitis had formed and the area was so badly infected I was a few days out from it becoming Sepsis which could have killed me!! They put me on steroids, antibiotics, and cream. I had gotten this wax because I was going on vacation in 2 days as if it doesn't need to be said my trip was ruined as I could barely walk let alone swim or enjoy any of the activities I had planned. This was an experience I have considered legal action moving forward but after some thought I don't want to have to do this to the owner of a small business. However, I do want to leave this review so future customers are aware of how badly this can go wrong. This was by far the most traumatic experience I have ever dealt with and the fact that I could've potentially lost my life over it had I not gone to urgent care that night is extremely scary. The doctors did tell me that waxing can be very traumatic to our bodies. Safe to say I'll never do another in my life. At the very least, ladies and gentlemen please be cautious and make sure that if you're in pain to ask questions or stop mid way if you aren't comfortable doing it anymore. To the owner of this establishment thank you for reaching out to me and advising me to go to urgent care it saved my life and it's crazy to think that could've even been an outcome. Please moving forward keep your staff informed of the correct temperature of the wax and to tell them to be a little better with their customer service skills. read more

I just had a Brazilian here for the first time. Emily was so nice and quick and didn't make me feel bad about how long it had been since my last wax. Also, she wore gloves and didn't double dip the stick into the wax. Believe it or not, that's less common than you would think. She used a high frequency wand (like for a facial) on my skin afterwards to prevent irritation and breakout. I'll update later on how that works out. So far I am so impressed.
