I am not sure why this gets such bad reviews-- we have been here three times And had good service. It is clean, we get serviced right away, and customer service is as expected (depends on your technician). Cost is average for the area. It's not our top choice in all of Pittsburgh , but top in the area when I can't drive across town (we prefer Pearl in sq. hill-- prices are lowest, great customer service, but below average decor-- I will trade that off for better pricing). read more

I wasn't originally going to come to this nail salon because of the reviews but it was the only one open near my hotel and I need a polish change. I had gel polish on top of acrylic, so of course I expected the technician to simply soak off the color. Boy was I wrong! He began by asking me if I wanted a fill, but I told him no because I had just got them filled 3 days before. Well he was persistent and asked a second time, which I explained my reasons AGAIN! Well he made sure he got his way. He pulled out the sander to not only take off the color but also to destroy my fill. I was disgusted and pointed out what he did. A female technician jumped in and said it was done by my other nail salon. Definitely not! So then I had no choice to get a fill. Everything finished and I went to the counter to pay. I immediately grabbed the price flyer and it said a fill with gel polish is $25. Looks like I was wrong again! He opened his mouth and told me it was $40. He explained that it was $5 more for the French Manicure style paint and $10 for the Solar Fill. I said "I didn't ask you for a Solar Fill. I wanted regular acrylic." His response "Well that's what I put on you so you have to pay for it." Talk about cheating a customer and very poor business. Hope he and his manager know they can get in a lot of trouble for that! Love this place! They always do such a good job and take their time. I have been to nails salon where they are always in a hurry and rush and the nails turn out sloppy and don't last as long. Small regular nail polish selection but a HUGE shellac collection and my shellac nails always last two weeks and could go longer but I prefer to get them done every two weeks. Well I called today to set an appointment for 5 of us. 2 of us were getting full solar set and pedicures, one solar fill and pedicure and two mani's and pedi's. The person that answered the phone said I would have to pay a deposit... hmm no not happening, then she tells me that she will not promise me that we will be seen if we have an appointment without the deposit. Not only was my guy rude, he asked me my age (23) and then proceeded to accuse me of lying (not jokingly), but he cut me so badly in my cuticle that it's swollen and still bleeding (my manicure finished about 10 min ago). He kept fixing his own nails while doing mine and when confronted about the cut he pretended it hadn't happened. I finally went to the manager, showed him my bleeding, swollen finger and he proceeded to say I must have had a hang nail, I was insulting his family and I was wrong. Don't waste your time or money here. I went in on a Thursday for a pedicure and a gel manicure. First, the pedicure looked terrible. I could've done better myself (which isn't saying much). My one toenail was bleeding because the pedicure was done so rough. The technician was so rude and first started off by reprimanding me for removing a gel sample from the ring holding all the samples, which I explained it was already removed. She then proceeded to ask where I work, I told her and she insulted the quality of work my company provides (which is laughable considering the level of quality at this "salon"). Fast forward to Sunday (3 days later) all of the gel peeled off my nails. I called the following day and the women I spoke with asked me to come in. I went in later that day which was a Monday, whenever I walked in no one stood up to greet me and the women asked me if I had an appointment. I explained I called earlier and I just would like a refund considering my last experience. She still didn't stand up, yelling across the salon (while doing services on someone else) that they don't give refunds. I explained to her I'll take a seat and wait for her to address me personally so we aren't arguing in front of all the other customers (ruining their experience). She then came over to me after about 10 minutes and said she can't give a refund and talked me in to getting another gel manicure. I reluctantly agreed and sure enough 5 days later, all of the gel peeled off my nails again. Waste of time and money! One of the least thorough pedicures I've ever received from someone. I soaked for a total of 15 minutes and the nail tech spent about 5 minutes on the cuticle work, nail shaping and buffing. I'm pretty sure she was just pretending to cut my cuticles. My heels were left looking like they did when I came in. Paint job was sub par. Total waste of 28 dollars. SO DISAPPOINTED!!! I have been going to Luxor Nail Spa for the past several years; I never go anywhere else because I've always thought they do a great job. That said, last time I was in, the owner recommended that I get the S&S gel dip nails because it helps your nails become more healthy. I went into get my nails done and when they removed the S&S, I had fungus under half of my fingernails. I have never in my life had fungus under any of my nails and they told me that the tech who did it no longer works there and that he did it wrong. The owner offered me 20% as a result. Really?!?!!! 20% off?!?!? She was the one who recommended that I get the S&S the last time and now my nails have fungus under them which I'm assuming that even after going to my Dr. that it will take months to grow out. I am so disappointed that they would not take responsibility for this, even if it truly was the former employee's fault. Ridiculous and once again, VERY DISAPPOINTING that 'my salon' that I have been going to every 2-3 weeks for manicures and pedicures over the past 3+ years feels like a 20% discount on my nails today was the right thing to do to remedy this issue. read more

I hated everything about Luxor. The nail tech was rude & rushed me, even though I was waiting for a friend. I asked for a gel manicure & was kinda confused why she was using a diff technique & why it was making my nails so lumpy/thick. She barely spoke/listened to me, except for being pushy & asking where my friend was. My nails were all diff shapes/lengths. I asked if she could fix them, make certain nails more round, etc. She was sassy about it & still didn't give me what I had in mind. She also made every single cuticle bleed.... In the middle of my friend getting her nails filled, her tech goes 'CAN YOU PAY NOW?'... Who makes someone pay before a service is complete...?? I was treating for my friend's bday. The nail tech charged me $103. I asked for a list of the prices. Her response:: 'SNS (?) cost more than gel'.... but I asked for gel? Haha... I recently went to luxor on a friend's recommendation for a mani- pedi before vacation .I got the gel manicure in hopes it would last through my vacation .I didnt hold out high hopes as I had one at another salon and it started to peel off right away .they were very friendly and gave me time to pick out colors (this is always time consuming for me) .Well i am back from vacation and it is over 2 weeks and they are still going strong .they need redone because of my nail growth but that is the only reason they need done .there is no odor here like some other salons either . I just got back from getting a basic manicure. Nothing fancy, just cuticles trimmed and nails shaped and polished. I called earlier today and made an appointment for 6:00. I got there at 5:50 pm and signed in. No one said hello or acknowledged me or the other 3 people sitting there waiting. I put my name on the sign up sheet and that I had an appointment at 6:00 but obviously appointments aren't important. I waited till 6:30 and no one ever said anything to me. Finally, one of the techs came and asked me to come with her. I told her I wanted my nails shaped in an oval. A couple of them had points on them and I had to ask her to round them out. She asked me to pay before the polish, which was good. I gave her a gift card for the salon and a visa card. They couldn't find the balance on the gift card. Then when they finally figured it out, they couldn't figure out how to put the rest of the balance due on the visa. They asked if I could pay cash. I had none with me. They just stared at me with no solution. I offered to get money from an atm and had to walk all the way to giant eagle to get money and come back and pay before getting my nails polished. Then when I left and got in my car, I took a closer look at the polish. It was not well done. She was in such a hurry because they were so busy that a couple of the nails were not painted all the way around the edges. They'll chip in a day. I basically hated the whole experience. Overall I had an awful experience. I made an appointment for a mani/pedi, and my pedicure was great, but when we moved onto the manicure, the girl cut my cuticle and left me bleeding at the table. She told me to "just soak it.," while she went to another customer to start her nails. About 30 minutes later I had another employee come and finish my nails. I've never felt so uncomfortable in my life. He was persistantly making innappropriate comments to me and my friend, I couldn't wait to leave. My manicure started chipping the next day. I had a HORRIBLE experience at this nail salon. The technician was rude and spiteful. I had long, beautiful, natural nails. I simply wanted a manicure before my vacation. She tried to talk me into shellac two times. I declined. I was scolded twice for splashing water out of the pedicure tub. (The water was too hot and I was moving my feet around to mix the hot and cold). After declining the callous remover when I found out it was an extra ten dollars, I think the technician was on a vengeful mission. During the manicure she asked me if I wanted to keep my nails long. I said yes I like them long and I just wanted them clipped A LITTLE BIT. Within two seconds she took her clippers and cut every one of my nails below my finger tips!!!! I was in complete shock! I could not believe what happened to me. I couldn't even bring myself to say anything because I was horrified and wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. I even wrote the owner a letter and didn't even receive any type of apology or compensation. It was the biggest waste of 50 bucks I have ever spent. I scheduled a pedicure the day before and was able to get in quite easily - I can now see why. When entering the salon you noticed that it is well kept, and had nice decor. I sat down for my pedicure and was instructed to put my feet in the water. I've had several pedicures before, however moving to Pittsburgh recently I'm trying to find a nice salon. I was only able to soak my feet for a total of 5-7 minutes. Not even long enough to figure out the massage chair and relax. The pedicure in total lasted 10 minutes. I scheduled this to UNWIND and RELAX. The entire pedicure was half-assed. The employee shaped my nails and applied a beaded scrub to my feet and legs. Next she took a dry brush and literally rubbed it over my feet for 10 seconds each. WHICH DID NOTHING. Next was a short lotion massage followed by hot towels. -which was different and nice. However I would NOT recommend this salon to anyone. 30$ for something I could've done in the comfort of my own home. I advise everyone to save their money. I planned on getting my nails done after but I could only imagine how that would've turned out. I wish I could give this salon one star. Do NOT go to this nail salon. They are very rude, unprofessional, and low quality manicures. I went to have gel nail polish removed, and the young woman was very impatient. She was playing on her ipad while waiting for the foil/acetone to soak in my nails. After about 5 mins, she took off the foils and SCRAPED the gel off; something that is extremely bad for your nails. The rest of the manicure was decent (non-gel polish this time), but she painted over very obvious gel that was leftover. I pointed out that she missed some of the gel and she simply filed it down, did not remove it. After I took off the polish a few days later, I noticed that a lot of the gel was still there and it was very irritating since I paid an additional $10 to have it removed. Because of this, I went back (big mistake) and nicely explained that the gel was not properly removed. Unfortunately, the only manicurist available was the same young woman. I tried to be polite and point out the spots of gel that were left on, and asked for another manicure since I was in anyways (again a mistake). She put the foils on again, without giving me a chance to pick out my color. I was standing there with foils on, fumbling around with the colors, and requested a certain OPI color that they had but was misplaced (it was in a display case in the front, I saw it last time I was in, and they had a gel version). At this point, the woman was very very rude, did not offer to help find the color, and tried to get me to try a sparkly pink instead (no thanks). I just asked for a no-polish touch up after this, because I was really losing my patience. She said, "yes, that works better for me," as if I was inconveniencing her. She then took off the foils (after less than 5 minutes) AND STILL MISSED THE GEL ON MY FINGERS. I again pointed out the gel that she missed, and she told me that it DIDN'T MATTER. So she did nothing to my nails, just filed and roughly took off some cuticles, and then had the nerve to charge me $17!!! When I questioned why she was charging me the full price even though I didn't get polish, she said it was because she had to remove the gel - BUT THE GEL IS STILL ON MY NAILS. People were starting to stare, so I just paid, did not leave a tip, and left. I understand that mistakes happen and I was very polite to begin with, even willing to try their services again. However, I never received an apology, I was treated like a huge inconvenience, and I was forced to pay for services I never received. And my nails still have spots of gel! Additionally, the woman was extremely unprofessional- played on her ipad and drank an orange smoothie while doing my manicure --- sanitary much???
