Crushingly disappointed. Dont the owners care? This former fave has completely abandoned safe operations. None of the staff were wearing masks or gloves. Customers were not being required or even encouraged to social distance. I only saw one person ( other than myself ) who was wearing a mask. I support reopening, but business must be responsible. How in the hell have I never been here? This is where you sit for the hipster fashion show. I swear, people have got to be dressing up to be seen here because the looks are goddamn ~*LEWKS*~. I got myself the very grown-up lunch of grilled cheese and tomato soup, which by the way isn't just any tomato soup. In fact, this isn't just any grilled cheese either. The grilled cheese is on the most luscious of breads. The tomato soup is more of a creamy tomato bisque that is not too acidic and blends so nicely with the grilled cheese (which, because I am an adult, I dipped). This dish was definitely there with the lewks on a beautiful antique plate - just saying. We also ordered two cocktails from the back bar. Yes, of course there's a back bar and it's rad as hell with graffiti styling all over the place. I got myself a Thirsty Crow and my partner got the Lux Marg. They were both excellent. And of course, they were in the coolest looking glasses. Speaking of glasses, we also snagged some waters. They have these antique looking tall tumblers with cacti on the sides. I spent most of the afternoon looking up where I can snag similar glasses because I'm in love. I tell ya, style all over the place in this spot! We sat up at the "bar" that was not for cocktails or for service, where we watched the pastry chefs cutting and decorating a few of their many many beautiful looking treats. It was quite a tease considering we'd already eaten and drank so much and had no space available for the cheesecake or the lemon bars or the beautiful berry cobbler. On our way out, I stood and drooled over the already prepared treats and made my partner promise that we'd be back very soon for desserts. Yes to all of this place. Every single bit of it. read more

The cafe is eclectic, and the kitchen is completely open which is interesting. Now if you're not a huge fan of communal seating like benches and couches then head down the middle hallway to the areas with more desk seating. It's past the restrooms. There will be two open areas you can choose from and a patio. Also, parking - there is parking off of central in the Pane Bianco lot if you follow that alley straight you'll hit a fork, turn left for the Lux parking lot, you can also get into it from W Turney Ave. Had the Velvet Latte which I was surprised to find had a lot of foam as well, like a cappuccino, yum! It was rich and creamy as well which was wonderful. Ordered the Nutella Banana Braid which I wasn't a huge fan of, not enough Nutella or sugar, it just felt like bread opposed to dessert. However, the Kouign Amann was amazing! It's a French pastry that tastes something in between a Creme Brulee and a Croissant. I highly recommend it! read more

I've been coming to Lux Central since I was 11, I am now 23! This coffee, food, bar spot IS In my top favorite places in ALL of Phoenix. The workers are always friendly, the music is always great, the coffee and ground beans never disappoint, and their vegan doughnuts (ANY FLAVOR) are to DIE for!!! This place has great vibes! I love how it's a sort of hidden gem and is beautiful inside. The pesto mac n cheese and the pastries are so good. Hands down my favorite coffee shop ever. Right in the heart of central Phoenix, and when you walk in it's never not a busy day. Super cool vibe, dimmer lighting, but great place to plant yourself for a long work day. They always have a great playlist too. Staff has never not been friendly. Their pastries are phenomenal and you also can't go wrong with their breakfast sandwiches. I've actually never had a bad order there, lunch is great too. Lux Central has some of the best baked goods in Phoenix. My absolute favorite are their scones, which change day-to-day but you can usuallly find one savory option and one or more sweet option. They also have great cookies and their espresso martinis are amazing! Food and coffee isn't what it once was, unstable seating , looks more like a study hall so it's difficult to sit with a family. Older male bartender with glasses in the back is rude and dismissive in more than one occasion. I saw him being rude to two ladies yesterday. Staff in the front were nice but some male bartenders hit on female customers which is very unprofessional and unwanted, one went as far as kissing the hand of one and she talked about how uncomfortable she felt after he left. I returned a few times to be fair but I don't recommend. We have many options in Central Phoenix these days with better food and service. read more

A hip, modern, eclectic coffee house that serves breakfast plates with craft coffees and the gamut of espresso drinks. If it's your first time here, the entrance to Lux Central is hard to find. You can slip through the crack alley in front of Pane Bianco to get to the door or you can go in from the side street and hit it from the back side. Another way to know you're in the right place... It's in the building next to Undefeated. The line on weekends is constant but moves quickly. We were near the door when we started and were at the register before 10 minutes were up. Someone will come up to you in line, take your drink order on a pad of paper, then you stay in line to pay at the cashier. A minute or two later, your drink is ready. Lux Central to me is like a hipster version of the Friends' Central Perk. Exposed wood beams, grey brick walls instead of red brick walls, couches and weathered wood tables. The seating consists of chairs and couches of various styles and upholstery with people eating, studying, talking or playing board games. A fun, vibrant place that has a constant buzz but no annoying loud noises or people. I ordered their iced coffee which is more like an Americano. Two shots of espresso over ice. You can get it with two shots, four shots or six shots. They use and roast their own blend of beans that are sourced from Ethiopia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Sumatra and Brazil to make their espresso and coffee drinks. They even make their own chai! For tea, you would just picking from a selection of Republic of Tea offerings. They did a great pull on my iced coffee. Just tell them beforehand if you want to leave room for cream or not. They do not make a cold brew here. They have a considerable assortment of pastries and breakfast menu items but I didn't have any so I won't comment on those. If you are looking for a good cup o' joe and want a fun place to hang out with friends, study, or break the awkwardness of a first date, Lux Central is super stellar for all of that! read more

I have been coming to Lux over 10 years and have always loved it here. The food drinks and baked goods are amazing.. The coffee is fantastic, and I love that I can come here for a nice dinner in the evening, or a fun hang out. It's one of my FAVORITE places in Arizona, and I am so glad it exists. I will recommend Lux to people always. In that regard, it's 5 stars. My real issue is that the last several times I've been there, at 9pm they turn the music up to club level volumes. It is so loud that I am shouting at my friends, and they can't hear me. We are sitting side by side. I am often still enjoying the last of my punch and food. And have to abandon it because the environment becomes so uncomfortable. We are finding a different place to have dinner and chat for or now on. Lux is just an morning/afternoon weekend place for me now, rather than an evening hang. read more

I was so excited to go to this place. It was such a letdown. First off, they played the rap artist Earl Sweatshirt album that repeatedly said the N word. (I am so glad my young daughters were not with me.). It was a horrible selection for a coffee/restaurant. Second, they messed up my order, they did re-make it, but it was the worst Americano I have had. I am so disappointed as this place has some serious potential. It gets extremely busy, so if you're looking for a spot to sit and study you might be out of luck! Fortunately, when I arrived for a study date, we were able to sit at the bar top area. My friend stood in line, waiting to order their delicious food, while I snuck over to save some seats! Everyone who helped and served us were extremely kind and sweet! We had to wait a bit for our food, but it was definitely worth. the. wait. Holy cow, this was some of the BEST Mac & Cheese I've EVER had! Creamy, not too salty, huge bits of bacon, and diced jalapeños all in a large cup! (Yes, they served it in a mug, how chic!) Their bacon jalapeño chicken sandwich was hefty, filling, and oh so juicy! We couldn't even finish it! It's not pictured, but I went back and ordered some of their freshly baked goodies: strawberry cupcake, salted caramel cupcake, and turtle brownie. TL;DR avoid this place if you're a single female. Earlier this year I was stalked over a period of multiple days by a man who tried to follow me out one night after staring at me for 3 hours. To the point where another patron noticed and helped me escape. I originally left a review then just left it alone because I didn't want to be the cause of drama. I tried calling management the next day about it but they made no effort to help me. The night it happened and I said something to management, they said they couldn't do anything because the man was a regular. Yet he nursed the same one beer as he stared at me all night. I was spending 3-4 days a week here, on food and drinks. After all that, I didn't come back unless during the day with friends, very rarely. Last night was one of those times but my friend had to go and I decided to stay to get some work done. Once again, I noticed a man with the same behavior patterns as the one from earlier this year that was tracking me. He got up and moved seats a few times until he settled for one diagonal from the walkway from me. I glared at him a few times as it looked like he was trying to take my picture on his phone. It didn't even appear that he ordered a drink. I don't know what is going on here, but this place has some shifty vibes of shady characters. My first incident made me realize the guy had been tracking my habits and what days I went. That has signs of a scheme much more sinister than just a single person being creepy, if you know what I mean. If you are a single female, I advise you to stay away. As much as I love the products here, it is not worth my safety. Lux needs to take better precautions, have security (which they claimed they usually do but once again, none in sight last night...odd for a place that serves alcohol). This place is complicit in putting women's safety in jeopardy and I pray that the women working there are safe. read more

I knew about Lux before I even had set foot in Phoenix. It has a following. But personally... I'm not sure. The coffee is fine. It's better than big name chains, but that's a low bar. The pastries are fine. It's hard to get a good grasp on what to order because it's always so crowded that you don't have a good chance to look. The seating is not particularly comfortable, and the interior has a weird industrial vibe that is not welcoming. I mean... even the front door is hard to find. But hipsters love it. It is an icon. But it is just another hip coffee shop. I can't figure out the legacy it commands. Maybe it's a testament to Phoenix's lack of good coffee shops. Still, it will outlast me probably. read more
