This place is awesome for sharing tapas. The ingredients are above average and the execution is spot on. I wish we would have ordered 3 of each plate we decided on because I could have devoured the whole kitchen. It's obvious that so much thought went into everything on their menu. We ordered the clams, shrimp, calamari, short rib, beet salad, and more. It was all just perfect, and the ambiance made it a great double date night to catch up with our friends. Lupo had been on our "wanting to try" for months and stopped in last Sunday to see if we could find two seats at the bar. Arrived to find all of the bar seats filled but asked if we could get on the wait list for first available table on the outside patio and were told that we could be second on the list....there was a small table with two comfy chairs around the corner from the outside patio so my wife and I took a seat to wait for our table. Within minutes a server came out and asked if we'd like a drink while we waited and handed us a list of cocktails. We said absolutely and then asked if we could also have dinner at this "waiting table"? He said sure! Started with a cocktail and the Buratta .... Followed by the Octopus and Empanada with a nice bottle of white wine - incredible food/cocktails/place/service and great way to end a weekend !! read more

So I came here the other night for an early graduation dinner with Safety John and company. The whole Boston crew including The Golden Boy, Jew Boy, State Farm, and State Farm's wife were all present. Golden Boy and Jew Boy both brought their spouses, as well. The sign outside had blown away, but it's located in an old bank. The interior was cute and intimate. The menu is always changing, but we had multiple rounds of tapas. I loved the lamb meatballs, the scallops, oysters. I wish I could remember everything we got but the dishes just kept coming. This place is sooo good!! Just had my first experience this evening and it did not disappoint. The place feels like you're in a little European cafe. We ordered an assortment of tapas including: the scallops, shrimp, tenderloin, Brussels sprouts, and smashed potatoes and each and every dish was totally delicious in its own way. I'll definitely be brining new guests that come in to town here. Our server even brought us some complimentary dessert (a little tarte-style dessert) which was also totally delish! Finally made it here and could not have been more impressed. I serve as the restaurant-picker for my wife and in-laws and was worried they might not like the portions or tapas style. It went great. Portions were actually fairly large and without exception everything I had was worth coming back for. We had salads, brussel sprouts, a large pork shank, and some other items. We ate at this restaurant a few weeks ago and posted a review on Lupo site. No response from the restaurant. Food was good. Service was terrible. I had to ask for water after being seated for 10 minutes. The server ignored us for most of our meal and spent most of his time talking it up with his 4 tops probably because his tip would be bigger. We will not return. One poor server can hurt a restaurant. I have shared this with my friends since we all live close to the restaurant. read more

The last time I was there Tatiana hand made a new Mezcal cocktail for me that was superb. She opened the cocktail to my criticism as she wanted to ensure it was only the best. We live down the street so we were hoping something great would come in...and Lupo did not disappoint! First off, their cocktails are amazing! Don't pass them up. The tapas are actually a generous size. I would get 2-3 per person. I highly recommend the garlic shrimp! I love sharing food and this is just the place to do that. Lupo is a great addition to the Columbus foodie scene. My first trip started with a quality (and unique) cocktail. My partners cocktail was equally good. Our waiter helped us decide the amount of tapas to order and what were her favorites. From there, we ordered about 4 based on what we thought would work well as a full palette. I thoroughly enjoyed every plate, including a few from the seasonal menu. This place is best geared towards people that enjoy trying new foods, and are open to more complex flavors. The environment is nice and quaint, in an old bank. I saw that someone complained about the noise in the reviews. I simply didn't notice it being too noisy at all. That kind of reviewer is best served by sticking to his comfort zone... Panera Bread. The desserts were also great, so be sure to save room. I'd like to point out that these were not traditional Spanish style tapas. They were more like Napa Valley food explorations. I recommend giving this place a try. read more

Oh my word!! We loved our meal at this restaurant. Checked the wine list, and much to my delight was a white wine from Austria. It immediately transported me back to my travels there. We had fresh oysters which were perfect. Buffalo mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and a veal ragu that gives new meaning to comfort food. The flavors were rich and layered. It's nice to have a second location conceived by Rick Lopez and wife Christa. The food has great flavor as anticipated! We ordered the spiced almonds, olive and manchego cheese, maitake mushrooms, smashed fingerling potatoes and duck confit. Our server, Nina, was very attentive in making our experience great. Plus, the location is ideal for locals; witnessed many young couples with infants. Hopefully, this is only normal for earlier dinners and not later while socializing with friends. Wow, what an evening. The service was great from the moment we walked in the door, the food was unique and delicious, and the family atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Fantastic! They are going to be packed so get in there. Went for lunch and had best spring salad ever, very fresh with peas and asparagus . Tried the truffled grilled cheese, chicken salad, marinated warm olives and cheese.... all wonderful . Great cocktails, purple gin drink very good! Can't wait for the patio to open. While I was very impressed with the taste of the food, my experience was overshadowed by slow service and sticker shock when my bill came and I saw the price of the drinks ($12 for a tequila cocktail and $13 for a glass of wine--those are brazen prices hence why they probably aren't published). Upon initial interaction with our server (who was not ready to serve on his own) it was 10 minutes before he came back. Once we placed our order, it took 30 minutes for our first tapas to arrive: raw oysters. Either service or the kitchen was out of sync. Or both. Simply put, service needs to be addressed to match the quality and cost of the food and portion sizes should be revisited. read more

The place was not busy at all but the hostess acted like she wasn't expecting anyone and had to hurry to set up a table. - no big deal if that was it. The waiter explained that it was a tapas restaurant and the average diner is satisfied with about 3 plates. We ordered drinks and a few plates because we were pretty hungry. The waiter made a point of leaving a menu so we can add some plates if we're still hungry. When the second plate arrived, we asked about our drinks and then the hostess brought them. The next 3 plates came and we enjoyed them immensely. We sipped the last of our drinks, thought about a couple more plates, and wondered about dessert because this place is known for it. After waiting 20 minutes with empty plates and glasses, the waiter finally checked on us (Remember, the place is practically empty and it's small. I don't know where he was but he didn't walk within range of flagging him down). I mentioned the long wait but didn't even get a "Sorry about that." We decided that dessert wouldn't be worth the wait and asked for the check. When he brought it over, I scanned it quickly and handed it back, afraid it would be another 20 minutes until his return. It was hard for me to tip him even 10% because he really didn't do a very good job. I did explain on the check he should be more attentive waiting in a tapas place. I hope he takes heart. I'll be back to give them a second chance because of the incredible five-star food. If the service improves, I'll update this review. If it doesn't, there won't be a third. read more

Lupo is an unexpected surprise smack dab in the middle of an upscale neighborhood and it absolutely delivers. The most difficult thing was getting through their single phone line (8th time worked) for carry out, but it was totally worth it. We started with the empanada and I loved the goat cheese they used. I had the French Dip which fell apart in the most beautiful way. Fries were also perfectly crunchy without being crisp. Hubs got the short ribs and told me I had to try it, which was correct. Food was good. Just good... There's nothing that would make us come back. No smiles, no warmth, no family like environment that Rick and Krista envibe at La Tavola. Tatiana is terrible. No other way to say it. She is coarse and not welcoming. The hostess couldn't even tell us where the restroom was. This is by far my favorite Tapas place! The presentation of the Lamb meatball was beautiful and eating it was pure bliss! My husband and I also shared their empanada ( exquisite!! The sauce: yummm!), and their charcuterie and cheese platter was a delightful gastro experience in itself --I could have simply had this platter alone and felt I had reached gastro nirvana! They have a nice selection of wines and cocktails-- we had wine but also a rum Manhattan, and their gin and tonic--both well mixed with a nice palette. The service was spectacular -- Hannah took such care of us -- checking in with us frequently making sure our experience was a complete delight. We plan to return and bring our friends! I am so excited that this place exists in Columbus! First of all, I have been searching for croquetas all over the country for years. They are hard to find. You can find them at Lupo. They are close to perfect. Here is what we ate: Croquetas Salad ( the salad was Bibb and kale with asparagus, peas, and ramp viniagrette). Also shavings of a cheese. Perhaps pecorino? Sorry that I don't recall. It was really really good. I was poised to not like it because I am a lover of Bibb and most kale salads don't do it for me, but the balance was awesome, the dressing was spicy and assertive and held up to the kale. It was like "here's your springtime and here's your Ohio springtime". Empanada--This was probably the best thing. It was astonishingly good. It was, however, tiny. The meat inside had the texture of a pot roast without being at all stringy. Roasted red peppers and a hint of something that I couldn't quite tell-- cinnamon? Nutmeg? Something like, anyhow. It was great. Roasted cauliflower. Yum. With harissa and toasted cashews. I had never had this combination before and I fully intend to have it again. Lamb Meatballs-- with peri-peri tomato sauce, these were nice. They came also with a lashing of yogurt, a bit of pickled onion, and some seeds that threw me for a loop.i thought they would be nigella seeds, but when I tasted them apart, they didn't taste oniony enough, but it is also possible that I was suffering from flavor overload. This food was SO good. It's a real tapas kinda place, which means the plates are SMALL. Also kinda spendy. But it's worth it. I can't wait to go back! read more

Our first and last experience at Lupo. We made a reservation tonight at 730. Arrived on time. No hostess to check in with. Had to ask a server to get us the hostess. Was told they were running late. We waited in the common area for 30 minutes. Never approached again. Asked hostess once again what we should expect so we could make a decision about going or staying. Had a vague response and no hint of apology. 10 minutes later we walked out. Wait staff said "have a good night". I understand busy. I understand overwhelmed. But this was poor customer service start to untimely finish. We live in the neighborhood and walked over with friends visiting. It was embarrassing for us and more so for the restaurant.
