We had such a great night here. The atmosphere was so vibrant and the music was just right for a Wednesday night. The drinks are strong and tasty, so I would recommend getting at least 2 or 3. The bar snacks are good. We had the almonds, but you're going to have to eat dinner somewhere else. We ordered what we thought was dinner, but turned out to be (in my opinion) premium snacks. This was our first time here, so it was a learning experience. If you come be sure to make dinner reservations for either before or after the show. You enter down some stairs to hostess stand. It's dark. Be careful. Make sure you have made reservations on line otherwise you are taking a chance you won't get in. They have early and late shows throughout the week. There are different type of seating arrangements in small intimate space. Bar stools, some empire style lounge chairs and couches surrounding small tables. Easily fills up. People come here primarily for the great local jazz performances. More listening then chatting folks. The drinks are ok. Not strong. The nibbles are also smaller in size. Not that interesting. (You can easily run up your tab because of the proportion sizes.) Had a great experience on Friday night at Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge. I didn't realize ahead of time that there were certain times for the shows. Live Music is from 6:00-7:30 & 8:15-9:45 (Doors open @ 5:30) on weekdays and Live Music, "Power Hour" 5:30-6:30 (Doors open @ 5:00) on weekends. We arrived at 5:30 for "Power Hour" and it was well worth it. I can't speak to the food but I had a Moscow mule and it was one of the best mules I've had. The staggered seating times was a little weird when booking in advance, not sure if they enforce this as it's so exact. The Colin Lazarski Trio on Friday night was awesome on the drums, keyboard, and electric guitar, playing jazzy renditions of songs like Time of the Season by the Zombies and Ray Charles' You Don't Know Me on the organ. Sitting at the bar was great (just don't select the middle seats which have obstructed views of the stage). The place offers unique snacks on the menu like octopus in galician sauce and dark chocolate sweets. But I just had a drink while I was there, the french 75. It was made well and satisfying. Bar staff was friendly and helpful the entire time. Glad I was able to experience a night out at this intimate venue with a sort of vintage charm, during my recent visit to Columbus. read more

So conflicted on this review. Management gets a 0, but the venue gets a 5. Let's start with the positives. Quaint little bistro and stage. Fast friendly service. Delicious food, though a very limited menu. Looks like they don't have any equipment to cook with, as everything in the menu is cold. But boy was it good! Started with their version of an Old Fashioned. Had a big rock, cool, and a cinnamon flavored simple syrup. It was delicious! Had a second before the night was out. We also ordered the whipped feta and open faced salmon. Both were outstanding! The entertainment was outstanding. I was expecting a solo act, or maybe a piano accompaniment. What we got was a singer, a drummer, a string bass, a piano, and an alto sax. Some of their numbers made their debut that night, but they sounded like they had been playing together for years! I will definitely be back as long as I can get by management's attitude towards their employee's welfare. They tack on 3% as an "Employee Wellness" charge to aid in their benefits . This should be a cost of doing business, not an optional charge! There is a fine line between doing what you HAVE to do, versus, what you SHOULD do and what you NEED to do based on the competitive environment. We've been here several times. Until this last time, it's been 5 stars. Great musicians, great service. This last time wasn't up to par. We got a 4 person table to the right of the stage. One seat had a huge column blocking the view of 2/3 of the stage. If you sat on the sofa, it was low so that heads in front of you blocked the view of the stage. I would highly recommend not getting this table. It might be the worst in the place. Initially, service was really slow. It took 15 to 20 minutes to get the first round of drinks after ordering them. It got faster afterwards, but it seemed like the servers and/or the bartender were a bit overwhelmed. Finally, it was a very different musical performance. 2 band members. One on drums, one on keyboard. No other instruments. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I'm used to seeing. No horns, no bass. We'll be back, but more careful the next time about the band choice and seating. Really, I'm wondering if there should even be a table where we sat. It was a really obstructed view. If you get a decent table, this can be a great experience. read more

How much I love this place! And how much I want people to support it but don't overcrowd it! Small cozy setting with moody ambiance and furnishings including the cozy theatre and swivel style seats. Limited servers as not to compete with the performance. Hint- check out the menu before you go and have an idea of what you want for the first round; it will help. Staircase down to the be transported into what a jazz house looks like in a big city and in its hey day. I appreciate the attention to detail on keeping it authentic. I have been by myself, with girlfriends, on dates, and taken family. They all have an excellent time. I would love to see this enthusiasm for the art spread to existing venues like Natalie's, Jazz Arts Group, and Lincoln Theatre. There is great drink choices and light eats- there is not a full kitchen on the premises. Drinks run $12-15 typically and you can be satisfied with the dips such as the tasty Hummus with warm pita for $13, the Whipped Feta with nuts and olive oil drizzle with bread for $14, and the Burrata with sourdough and small arugula salad for $23. Those are my go-to's especially in a late night show. So for those that are not a fan of jazz nor know about speakeasy etiquette, I highly suggest you research before attending. Don't spoil a good thing folks! Typically if a performance is good/great, we snap and/or lightly clap. It is cozy so be aware of your personal hygiene. The drinks are good, so be aware of your limit. The last holiday show was almost upended by a naive request for audience selections and an overly eager young lady that thought her cash contribution bought her a juke box experience. Ugh. You do have to pay for street parking since it is downtown The ambiance was very classy, decor was beautiful, and the seats were extra comfy, which I appreciated! The drinks were very good! The All that Jazz cocktail was super refreshing and light. Perfect for summer nights! They have some food that you can enjoy as well, and I really liked the Japanese deviled eggs. Went on a Thursday night to see jazz quartet play. It was about $10 and you have to schedule your tickets ahead of time. The show lasted about 90 minutes. We got a front table which was great nobody was blocking our view. Some tables it seemed like your view could be blocked. They had an excellent drink menu. The jazz band was Dr. Thunder's quartet, and he played mostly Thelonious Monk. We didn't have food, but I had two cocktails (All that Jazz and the namesake Ginger Rabbit). I think it'd be impossible to give this place anything less than 5 stars. Not only is the ambiance impeccable, but the tickets were low priced, service was amazing, and the seating was perfection. My only real complaint would be that it's in the Short North, so you'll need to deal with the "fun" that is parking. NOTES: -The entirety of the establishment is located down a flight of relatively steep stairs. According to the booking email they sent out, though, there is an ADA-assisted method if you contact the establishment ahead of time. (I'd guess there's a service elevator somewhere.) -Choose tables closer to the stage for a more "immersed" feel in the music. Things are quieter towards the back-of-the-room tables, and it's easier to hear staff make drinks/chat during performances too. This isn't a complaint. Loud music is painful for me, but the back-of-the-room tables were the perfect volume. -To keep with the jazz lounge vibe, it is very low light here. It was really hard to read the menu for about 10 minutes after we arrived. If you have low-light vision issues, keep this in mind. -I'd recommend "dressing up" to your comfort level. A lot of female-presenting folks in cocktail dresses with male-presenting folks in button-down shirts with nice jeans. It didn't seem to really matter to the staff or establishment, though; just do what makes you happy. -The majority of the center table chairs are soft, padded, semi-circle chairs. They are nice and roomy on my plus-sized body and really, really comfortable. They may not be comfortable for everyone, though - especially people who like to keep their arms comfortably supported next to them on arm rests. PROS: -Tickets were surprisingly affordable for talented live music. For less than $17, we had two tickets to their "Power Hour" pre-peak-hours show. We had the entire Ginger Rabbit experience and ambiance at a steal of a price! -A fantastic show too! Both musicians were clearly passionate about their craft (really great music) with virtually no talking. It was pretty much continuous jazz from start to finish. -Two individual, all-gender restrooms. Both restrooms are extremely roomy, and they even had lit candles going in both restrooms. They were immaculately clean and in the same jazz-esque decor of the rest of the place. -If you do have to pee mid-show, they have the live music piped into the speakers in the bathrooms. It was an unexpected treat! -The tables are absolute perfection. Ginger Rabbit could get way more seating in here if they scrunched the tables up together. Instead, they leave decent space between tables with chairs perfectly angled away from one another for a serious feel of privacy in the middle of the room. -I love that you can choose your table when making your reservation as well. They have multiple 2-person tables, so unlike many comedy clubs, you won't have to share your table with complete strangers if it's just the two of you. -Service was fantastic here. They clearly are experienced with doing service in low light conditions and while a show is going on. I'd say that our waitress mostly left us alone mid-show unless she saw a water glass or drink needed refilling, then she'd quietly pop in and whisper to figure out what we'd like. -Great drinks too! Heavy pours and delicious! It seems a lot of their gin-based drinks are gin-forward, though, so keep that in mind. I definitely recommend their namesake Ginger Rabbit drink, though. I'm not huge into ginger or carrots, but the drink itself comes together flawlessly without bitterness or awkward flavors. -We had the Japanese Deviled Eggs too. Also another recommendation. They're a bit like standard, no-spice American Deviled Eggs - but way, way saltier. It's a really different take on Deviled Eggs, and I'm kinda craving them again already. CONS: -My only real complaint is that it's located in the Short North, and you'll need to figure out parking to come here. read more

Walking in, it's exactly what you would expect from a classy jazz club. A basement-dwelling, chicly decorated, dimly lit room with a small stage, a fancy bar, and lots of two-top tables. There are some booth seats stage left and a cool little couch area stage right. The drinks are absolutely excellent, though I didn't order any food because we had already eaten. The menu is pricey, but it's a special occasion type of place. Amazing for a date night! My husband and I stopped in for a couple drinks while in town. He had two cocktails, the second he allowed the bartender to play around with and make something that was not on the menu. The bartenders were super knowledgeable and it was fun to watch them make their specialty drinks. We had to wait a little while to get a bar seat but they text your phone when your seat is ready and we were just around the corner. They had live music which was nice! I would definitely recommend this spot for some drinks and a quick snack. The only complaint I had is they did not have Amaretto. What cocktail lounge does not have Amaretto. Came on a Thursday night, early show. The good: beautiful atmosphere and vibe. The music and sound was fantastic. Drinks and table service were great-- for drinks. We had a real issue with food service. Ordered two simple salmon handhelds at 6 pm. At 640 pm; asked server where our food was. She told us it was coming. Meanwhile, we see food slowly trickling out to other tables-- including one table that arrived at 610 pm-- AFTER we ordered and after the show started. Why wasn't our order prioritized? This tells me it was lost and only put in when we complained. At 650 pm, spoke with manager, who said, "we only have one guy doing food, and we've never had so many food orders on a Thursday". Not the right answer, Mr. Manager. Here's the thing: this space holds about 45 people. We were in a position to see the whole room. There were six employees basically standing around (including the manager) after we complained and one guy slowly doing food (he was in plain sight, not in a kitchen). Maybe solve the problem by helping him? We finally got food after an hour, and it seems our order was probably lost, and was not acknowledged and prioritized after we called it out. Also, the handhelds we ordered are so simple that they literally could be made in two minutes. Manager comped our food and gave us desserts.
