I stumbled upon Lupo while searching Google for a nice dinner restaurant in Banff. Sorry Yelp, but, hardly anyone uses you in Alberta. They are located upstairs in the Cascade Shops. They seemed like they were separate from the mall with no direct access to the mall itself. Reservations were made about a month in advance. When we arrived, we were promptly seated. We ordered their seafood linguine and their halibut. The halibut was their fish of the day. The halibut was cooked in their Josper oven which kept the fish moist. The seafood linguine was full of shrimp, scallop, crabmeat and clams. My wife really enjoyed it. My only complaint was that their portions were a little small. Service was good. Our waiter was nice and tried making conversation with us. He kept our glasses full and checked up on us. It would be five stars if only they gave a little more.
We came here for our first dinner after we landed so of course we were starving! We got a gorgeous table with a beautiful view of the outside on the second floor- perfect table to celebrate my mom's anniversary! We ordered- Margherita 3.5- pizza is pizza, but the crust was good but the pizza was a little bit too salty for our liking. Pesto Campanelle 4.5/5- surprisingly this was so good! I didn't think it would hit the spot, because I'm very picky when it comes to pesto, but we were basically licking the plate! The sauce was so good and also paired perfectly with the complimentary bread! I understand why a lot of tourists say this is the place to go! Unfortunately we didn't get to try any of the cocktails, but I'm assuming they're just as great!
The service was amazing from the moment we got here. The background of Banff was amazing also. The food was amazing. You must get the Mozzarella Sticks, they were amazing. The main dishes were also awesome! We had the duck 5 star, the seafood linguine was also amazing, with a little kick on the spice. Everything was homemade, and you could taste it. Will definitely come back when we're in town!!!
Great Italian restaurant in the banff area. Our favorite dish was the rolled lasagna. You know the best parts of a lasagna are the edges? This made sure every part of the pasta was the best part. We also enjoyed the margarita pizza. Staff was super friendly and service was fast. I would recommend reserving just in case for dinners as it got pretty packed when we went. Interior was also super cute and added to the vibes.
The service was spectacular. I don't think I caught our server's name, but I just know she's from Montreal. She gave me recommendations for bagel places to try in Montreal, and she was attentive throughout the meal. Our hostess actually gave us great pasta recommendations. I loved loved loved the pesto pasta. Both pastas we got were made perfectly, and it brought me right back to Italy. I also don't usually like tiramisu. It's something I will try one bite and not touch again just because I don't like the texture. But THIS tiramisu was phenomenal. I had at least 4 bites of it and that's really a lot for something creamy for my taste buds. We also got one to go for somebody else at home. So it was just amazing. The ambiance and everything actually reminded me of Italy to an extent. All the attention to detail was great. Only thing I can say is, maybe make the elevator darker inside and not so bright to match the rest of the restaurant, and also decorate those sad white walls and even the decor would be perfect.
Reservations are needed and they fill up fast, so if you want to eat here, - and you will want to eat here - prepare in advance. Italian themed, everything is homemade and it's delicious. We started with the Caprese salad. The cheese was so light and fluffy. Tomatoes fresh. Excellent. Pair this with the focaccia bread and you get a nice mix of textures. Loved the warm and crusty bread. Next came our entrees. I chose the pesto Campanella and husband had the Roseline which was rolled lasagna. We loved our meals. The noodles were perfect in mine, holding a bit of pesto sauce (but not too much) and a few pine nuts in every bite. So good. We skipped dessert because we were so full after the entree but the caramel dessert was catching my eye. Service was excellent. Our server helped us with menu ideas as well as hiking and site seeing ideas. The place was super busy, loud and full of energy. A small outdoor deck hosted some seating. We sat inside near the front windows. I liked that the tables were far enough away from each other that you didn't feel like you were dining with your neighbor. Great stop.
Get the pizza here!! We made a reservation late at night but were able to get seated a tad earlier when we arrived. The inside is massive and well decorated, and the ambiance is super nice. I got the diavola pizza, and my friends got the caccio e pepe, carbonara, and sausage pastas. I must say the pizza was by far the best - the flavor was so perfectly balanced of spicy sweet salty and tangy, and the sourdough crust was probably the best I've ever had. It was crispy yet chewy and fluffy, and the flavor was so delicious even on its own. Amongst the pastas, they were all good but nothing stood out to me too much. We also got the focaccia which was pretty good, but the pizza crust was even better. This was probably one of my favorite pizzas ever hence the 5 stars, but everything else I'd probably give 4.
We came here during happy hour from 4 to 5 PM since we couldn't secure a reservation online. They do take walk ins and have a waitlist for anyone who is flexible with their schedule. There was a line when we arrived as many people had the same idea but we got a table right away. During happy hour, they offer three different pasta dishes, five pizzas, and two antipasti dishes/salads. There was a great selection of discounted alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. I like the restaurant's decorations and ambiance. We ordered the frozen peach Bellini, vesuvian blossom, caprese salad, Roseline, and rigatoni Bolognese. The caprese salad was okay that needed a bit of salt. The happy hour pasta dishes were quite salty and both tasted almost the same to me. I saw some of their pizzas at other tables and they looked amazing. I would like to try one next time. The drinks were amazing, especially the frozen peach Bellini. It was fruity without being too sweet and didn't have a strong alcohol taste.
Came here to celebrate my birthday and a successful century ride around Banff. Located on a second floor, the interior is mid-century modern style. They also have an outdoor patio. We didn't make a reservation ahead of time, so we joined the waitlist and walked around town until we received the text to come back (took about 40mins). While Lupo has a full bar and plenty of cocktails and wine, I went for the local draft beer. Service was pretty slow as they were still packed after the official closing hour, but the food was worth the wait. We ordered the spicy rigatoni alla vodka, spaghetti & spicy meatball, and Uncle Morty pizza. The pastas were cooked al dente and both sauces were solid. We were impressed by the Uncle Morty pizza. The sourdough crust had a great texture and added to the taste. The savory, slightly salty mortadella with the sweetness of truffle honey and the crunch of pistachios balanced wonderfully. Definitely a solid Italian spot I'd recommend!
Went on a random Thursday without reservations and luckily we were able to get a seat! You walk upstairs to the host stand and it's definitely a trendy cute spot to eat at! For seating, you can sit outside or inside. Both have different vibes and you can't go wrong with either or! Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka 4/5 Has a nice spicy kick and the pasta was cooked perfectly! The pasta had a slight tarty tomato taste sauce. I wish it was a bit more creamy Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin 4/5 the potatoes were super yummy! Potatoes were cookies smashed with a crispy edge. Mushroom sauce was a great addition to the dish. Only downside is the beef was a bit dry inside. Rigatoni Carbonara 5/5 the bacon brought the right saltiness to the pasta. Can't complain here! Service was a bit slow, we got seated at the same time with a couple next to us. The couple beside us got their food first, finished eating, and paid their bill. Whereas we were still waiting for our food to come out when they paid out. Our server paid more attention to other tables around and didn't fill up our waters etc. Each time we needed something we had to look and ask a different server for water, togo boxes, and the check.
We dined in at Lupo for my wife's birthday dinner after a long day in Banff. We didn't have a reservation so our table took roughly 40 minutes; we spent that time walking around downtown. The interior on the second floor is a typical modern casual Italian ambiance. Service was very friendly but the food took quite a while to get out and it took a long time between visits from our server to order and to get our cheque. We ordered the Uncle Morty pizza (5/5, the sourdough crust was great and the toppings were quality), spicy rigatoni alla vodka (4/5), and spaghetti and meatballs (4/5). The food was honestly all fairly solid; the pasta was cooked correctly, the sauces were tasty, and the pizza was better than expected. Value wise, it's on the more expensive end of food options in downtown but we overall enjoyed our meal.
Seemed like my carbonara sat under the heat lamp a little too long as the noodles and pork (bacon bits) were quite hard. Pasta was still very good even with that being said! Margherita pizza was great! Not much to say there! Service was great, very nice server! Restaurant is on a second floor like most restaurants in Banff, and has a nice patio with a good view! Overall I'd give this place a try if you're looking for good pasta!
We came here for happy hour as the reviews for this place was pretty high - we were not disappointed. The service was great - super helpful, checked in appropriately, water always filled up. Got extra Parmesan, chili flakes, black pepper for our table. Food: For happy hour (4-5pm or 3-5 pm for Friday), the pizzas and pastas are all $15 and salads start at 8$. Also tons of cheaper drinks available. The main thing is pizza is regular size but pasta and salad is smaller. Having said that, our group still thoguht the pasta was really good. Bolognese pasta - the pasta is fresh and cooked Al dente. Has a really nice tomato and meat sauce 5/5. Carbonara - this was smooth but had a kick of black pepper and pieces of porchetta. Again the pasta was fresh and cooked Al dente. 5/5. Uncle morty's pizza - really interesting pistachio and honey sauce on the pizza with ham. I thought this was the most interesting of flavors - 4.5/5. Prosciutto and arugula - love the salty prosciutto and the fresh arugula on the tomato based pizza. 4/5. Mushroom - has different types of mushroom on a tomato based pizza. 4/5. Caesar salad - comes as a full quarter with cheese, sauce and capers. Really works with the fresh lettuce. 5/5. Must have: Caesar salad, Rosaline (rolled lasagna with ham and fontina). The carbonara was not what we expected, not great. We sat at an outdoor table which got a bit chilly by 7 pm but otherwise is ideal (plus we got seated with no reservation). Inside of the restaurant looks nice too. Caesar is truly a must have, the best I have ever tried and I make homemade Caesar weekly. If you like cheese... a lot... Rosaline is also a must. So good, would go again! read more

We ordered to go...The food was very good, but extremely overpriced! Our salad was $22.50 and this is a picture of how tiny it was. I couldn't believe it when I pulled it out. The pizza was tiny too and $30. We paid over $60 and it was enough for one person. Would not go back! read more

Very busy place and was on the waitlist for an hour. Peach bellini was good, tasted like a sorbet. The beef tartare appetizer was just okay. After our appetizer and drinks, we waited for over 40 minutes for our pastas. They were all extremely disappointing and dry, as if they've been left out for too long. Carbonara had no flavor, extremely plain, and not even salty by the slightest. The only redeeming factor about this place was the peach bellini and our server who was extremely nice and gave us a 25% discount for how atrocious the food was. Otherwise, I would've given this place 1 star. Extremely overrated and a waste of money. Even though the pictures of the pasta look nice at a glance, you can see how dry and the extreme lack of sauce for both the spaghetti and linguine. read more
We got a chance to visit Banff this past weekend and stumble on to Lupo and to top it we were lucky to be there at their happy hours. Service and food was very nice. The host was super friendly and made us felt at ease. Sorry I didn't catch his name. Our server was courteous. Food was much better than I anticipated. Usually at the tourist town like this food was not too good. Definitely recommended to those who visits Banff to stop by. read more
High key the best restaurant in Banff and you can take that to the bank!! As I'm writing this review at home, I'm already starting to salivate in remembrance of the meal that I had. FOOD The dishes here are absolutely phenomenal. We had an assortment of appetizers and entrees. We had beef tare tare and it's absolutely the best tasting beef tare tare I've had in a long time. The puff crackers were an interesting take but phenomenal. The Arugula Prosciutto Pizza was on another level. The dry aged prosciutto tasted so much better on this pizza than anything I've tasted. You will not disappoint getting this popular dish. We also had Sausage Pasta as well. Trust me, if you haven't been in heaven with Banff's views, you will with this dish. Absolutely chef's kiss on this dish. So well seasoned and sausage tasted very fresh as well. SERVICE The service here is absolutely amazing as well. Definitely one of the better restaurants I've been to both in Canada and ever in my life. The server were so friendly and guided us to ultimate choose these three fantastic dishes. AMBIANCE the ambiance of this restaurant is pretty dope too. Depends on where you sit but you can basically see the down town banff view or the classic Italian diner view of the restaurant. We had such a great experience at Lupo. Pasta was hand made and you could definitely taste that, perfectly cooked. We always judge a restaurant by their cacio e Pepe and Lupo was delicious! Simple and not overly seasoned. Service was excellent and our waitress was very helpful in choosing what to eat. Very casual restaurant and not what I expected in a tourist town. read more

My friends and I had a great time at Lupo. The food was delicious and the ambiance was just what we needed for celebrating our bride to be at our last dinner. Staff were friendly and answered all of our questions. The duck was delicious, but the blueberry was a bit too sweet for my taste. Tiramisu was a perfect way to end the meal, simply delicious. It was much larger than I expected and still tasted great the next day. Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience and would recommend to friends visiting Banff. read more

Had a really great experience at this place - from the food to our server, I will definitely be back when I'm in town again! All pasta is made in house and you can taste it. The agnolotti is seriously one of the dreamiest pasta dishes I've ever had. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Sicilian kiss was good - a bit sweeter than I hoped for, but if that's your thing then def try it. Margerhita was great. Pizza dough is delicious. I would've opted for something a little more out of the ordinary but my partner wanted it Ceased salad was solid. Lemon tart was very tasty. We came for happy hour - they offer select pastas and nose pizzas for $16. Great time to come check this place out. read more
Good Service to start with. The food though, was delicious. I had the best pizza I have ever eaten. I ordered the Margherita and it was perfect. Sized for one but so delicious. I also ordered the Capresse which was good. I had a good seat over looking the street. I highly recommend stopping in. The restaurant doesn't open till 3 but it is worth the wait. Enjoy! read more
Great place right in the heart of Banff. Located on second floor with a lovely patio. We went during happy hour , which is from 4-5 Saturday-Thursday and 3-5 on Fridays. We liked it so much that we came back on our way from Jasper to Calgary airport . Our first visit was one week ago and Christine was our server. She was super professional, but at the same time, very interactive and informative. She made sure we had everything we needed. The pasta is made in house and everything was so fresh and delicious , that I cannot say one was better that the other . We had bolognese, carbonara, and Cacio e Pepe. In addition we had a mushroom pizza to share. There is plenty of alcoholic beverage to choose from . Today, Friday, there was a DJ, but we could still carry on a conversation. There is street parking and also a public garage close by. Gender neutral washroom as well. For sure, Lupo is a must when visiting Banff. read more

I think this is a must visit if you are looking for food in Banff, especially if you want Italian food. The view we had was amazing, and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful as you can see from the pictures I posted. The food was great. We opted for pastas as they just looked so good, and they were as good as they tasted. The rigatoni pasta was great and nicely balanced with the cheese and spice, and the spaghetti pasta was exactly what you expect from a lighter (and in my opinion) way better version of an alfredo. Both pastas were light and had that perfect al dente, but just enough quantity to end the day looking at the great views in the area. You really can't go wrong dining inside or outside here. On a beautiful day, if you can, definitely try to get a table next to the street as you can see in the pictures, but I am overly impressed by how this place looks. This is one of the few places that both the food and the ambience made the dinner so worth it and happy for me! read more
One of the best places I've eaten in Banff so far! I heard about this place before visiting and made a reservation right away. It was the perfect Italian restaurant. It's great for a fancy night out/date night or if you just came back from your adventures in Banff. We saw a mix of different groups although the ambiance is definitely a little more upscale than casual. The service was amazing, our waitress was so friendly and sweet and gave us a bunch of recs for our stay while we were In town. The food was so delicious. Definitely recommend the spicy rigatoni and mushroom pizza along with truffle fries. read more
From the moment you walk into the sort of ~lobby~ area, the vibes will take over and put you into the best mood. This place is seriously cool. Swanky and cool. You walk in, dance your way up two flights of stairs...there's music and lights and everything...you'll see when you get there. Once at the top you're greeted by the outdoor patio to the right and the dining room/bar/cheese case in front and to the left. Every inch of this place is designed to fit perfectly with the Italian bistro in Banff vibe. We came in on a Friday night in July, we didn't have reservations but we're lucky enough to grab the last two seats at the bar. The bartender, Simon, ended up being our server. Even with all the drinks he was slinging for everyone else, he was extremely attentive and made sure our food and drinks came up quickly. The drinks came up so quickly in fact I didn't even notice my drink in front of me for a minute or two. For food we ordered the house made focaccia bread - which was to die for, the spicy meatballs - which were cooked perfectly, and the Campenelle carbonara - which was perfectly Al dnete, extremely rich and creamy, and had the slightest zing from the pepper. I had the aperol spritz, very traditional spritz and it hit the spot perfectly. My mom had a cosmo and when asked how she liked it, it was a very enthusiastic "it was good"! Would 100% recommend this to anyone visiting Banff that wants a slightly elevated dining experience. Don't worry, no dressing up is required, there were plenty of hiking boots and fleece jackets in sight. read more

Great spot to go with friends or for a date night. It's so cute from the moment you walk into the building and as you ascend the stairs. Service was outstanding. We really enjoyed our time here chatting with our waiter. The food was good, though not out of this world. We got the chicken parmigiana, rigatoni, mozzarella sticks, meatballs and lemon pasta to share. Our favorites were definitely the lemon pasta, mozzarella sticks and meatballs. Very fresh and vibrant flavors. Would come back just because of the amazing service and atmosphere. read more
Definitely make a reservation in advance! This restaurant was recommended to us multiple times during our stay in Banff. We tried to walk in and sit but we ended up having to book a reservation for the next night because the wait was going to be long. The ambiance is very romantic and there were several couples eating dinner here. For an appetizer we started with the Caesar salad which I wasn't impressed with because the way it was served it made it hard for all of the toppings/dressing to be distributed evenly. I really enjoyed the angolotti as it was rich and had truffle! The spicy rigatoni wasn't all that spicy but was still yummy. read more

My friend and I were in town for the Banff Marathon in mid-June and booked a reservation at Lupo for the night before the race for a bit of carb-loading. Lupo has only been open for a couple of months (max) and is part of the Banff Hospitality Collective - check out their other restaurants as they're all fantastic. Located on the second floor, the entrance was the perfect introduction for how awesome the atmosphere is throughout the entire restaurant. Lupo is an Italian restaurant and will make you think you've teleported to Italy! From start to finish our waitress, Jess, was personable and knowledgable about nearly everything on the menu. We were there for happy hour and ordered the happy hour Whipped Ricotta and Red Pepper Jam plus the Beef Tartare. I loved both appetizers and thought the beef tartare was nearly perfect. For my entree, I ordered the Lobster Ravioli. There were about eight ravioli on the plate and each one was delectable. For $42 CAD, it was a bit pricy but the ravioli were filled with an adequate amount of lobster. My favorite part of the meal was looking at the kitchen area and seeing someone preparing the ravioli. We rounded out the meal with some Camomile Blossoms tea and the the Tarte Limone dessert. After the delicious meal at Lupo, I felt full and ready for the race the following morning! The missing star is due to the lack of bread at any point during the meal. Maybe it's an American thing but we always get bread at an Italian restaurant. Since we didn't at Lupo, we requested bread which apparently cost us an additional $8 for Focaccia. Either way, Lupo is one of the best, if not thee best option for Italian food in Banff. Confession- we came here TWICE during our vacation to Banff because we loved it so much! By far the best Italian restaurant I've ever been too. If I didn't live in a different country I would come here all the time lol As an app their fried mozza sticks are a must! Then they had so many pastas to choose from, but their MAFALDINE AL LIMONE was a lemon pasta that I still think about to this day. It was definitely packed on both a week night and a weekend, so we used open table to get in. I don't think you could get in without a reservation for dinner! Perfect spot for a date night, it gave off some adorable romantic vibes. read more

Food was delicious, hot, and fast. Drinks were tasty. Service was great. Great happy hour menu of solid choices and offered a kids menu too. Reservations available on Open Table and includes happy hour which was great for us being on a tight timeline. The space was beautiful and open with lots of tables both inside and outside. Would definitely recommend this place! read more
