We were in the area meeting folks, and decided to drop by to support a local Vietnamese restaurant. When we came in we were trying to figure out how to to be seated as everyone was busy working. We walked up to the counter and they welcomed us to be seated anywhere. After sitting they offered water and various canned drinks. As we perused the menu. We started with the beef lemon grass skewers and they are delicious. The meat was juicy and the flavors were spot on. The veggies under the skewers helped balance all of the flavors. After that they bought the Vietnamese sour soup with catfish. Such a nostalgic dish with my family and I was so excited to enjoy it. They presented it in a nice soup container and brought out rice. They had jalepenos on top for you to decide how spicy you wanted your soup. It was delicious, I stopped myself to eat the other dishes and was so excited to have it for lunch the next day. We also got the pork lemongrass pork chop rice dish. This plate was huge and enough for my husband and I to share. The pork was flavorful and the fish sauce was perfect to tie in all of the traditional flavors. I was also craving walnut shrimp and it was delicious. The only thing that threw me off was the pineapple, and the cherries on top of it. But the shrimp wasn't too battered and was full of flavor with the sauce. Each of the dish came with rice so we had plenty to enjoy. While we were there tons of people came in, so exciting to see such a well loved local business. All in all, we had a great experience and look forward to coming back soon.

Pork and Shrimp pancakes. So fresh!

I come here once a year when visiting family. Pho is great as well as the pork and shrimp pancakes. I haven't tried too many things on their menu but what I have tried has been awesome. Service is quick and prices are lower than what see on the east coast. If I lived in Wheaton I would come and eat at this restaurant every week. Highly recommended!

This place is amazing. The food is delicious. It's family owned and so friendly. Literally because they are so sweet we come here often. The only thing better than the kind service is that the food is soooo delicious and affordable!! Do yourself a favor and come enjoy some delicious.

It was a cold and windy Wednesday night and I needed some hot broth and good food. We were greeted by a friendly elderly gentleman and his son who said we could sit anywhere we wanted. The restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese and Chinese food. Everything on the menu looked delicious. Apps: Chicken Wing Delight: chicken was served hot and it had a light crispy batter. Loved the sautéed onions on there too. There is a light drizzle of oyster sauce and thankfully it was only a drizzle bc it was so so salty! Maybe if I had eaten it was a side of rice it would have balanced out the flavors. 7/10 Banh Xeo (pork and shrimp pancakes): These delightfully crispy pancakes were super stuffed with bean sprouts, steamed shrimp, and pork. Accompanied by nuoc cham (Vietnamese fish sauce) and fresh vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised that they used char siu, and have absolutely no complaints about it. It added lots more flavor to the pancakes. Made a wrap using the lettuce and stuffed it banh xeo, Thai basil, and cilantro and dunked it in the the delicious fish sauce. 8.5/10 Dinner: #18 Special beef pho: As soon as the server set the bowl down I got a pho steam facial. The broth was hot and fragrant, and the taste was unbelievably comforting. Broth was clean and it warmed my soul up with each slurp. The variety of meats were tender, and I also added meatballs. The pho did not need anything else to doctor it up. Just a handful of bean sprouts and some fresh Thai basil with a squeeze of lime. 9/10 I would definitely make the drive out to Wheaton to eat here again. There is more on the menu I'd like to try, Great spot for a wholesome meal with friends and family.

Was in the downtown Wheaton area for a yelp experience, and it was a cold windy night. We decided to stop into Luong Loi for a nice warm bowl of pho. We were greeted by an elderly gentleman that told me I can pick anywhere to sit. Luong Loi offers popular Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. It all sounded delicious. We started with the shrimp and pork pancakes, and the Chicken Wing Delight. The pancakes (Banh Xeo) were a hit. It consisted of 2 rice flower crepes stuffed with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts served with lettuce, cilantro and basil. The chicken wings had a nice light crispy batter covered with sauteed onions and a light drizzle of oyster sauce. The sauce was definitely needed because the wings were very salty. I could only eat one. We followed the apps up with a nice warm bowl of the special beef pho. Once the bowl is placed in front of you, you are instantly hit by the aroma of the broth. Let me tell you...it was LOVE AT FIRST SLURP!! So warm, clean, and refreshing. You know it's a great broth when you don't need to add any additional sauces. Just a handful of bean sprouts and a few basil leaves does the trick. The staff at Luong Loi goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, and their authentic dishes are nothing short of amazing.

We strayed from our typical go tos to give this Chinese / Vietnamese spot a shot and it didn't disappoint. Food was good. The service was prompt. Restaurant is situated in the downtown area of Wheaton which I thought was a cute area. Highlight for me would be the beef pho. Broth was delicious. Meat quality was good and served with all the fresh toppings and sauces (hoisin & sriracha) you'd expect to adjust to your taste. The lemongrass pork appetizer was nice to start with. The fried rice my son throughly enjoyed. The duck noodle soup was okay. The pan fried seafood noodles were average and not much noodles to be honest. Anyways I'd probably come back for the pho as there aren't many Vietnamese options around here. Til next time, cheers!

I ordered online for carry out and the platform was easy to navigate. Once my husband and I arrived at the resto we were greeted by a very kind staff member. Our food wasn't ready but within 5 mins of us being there it was good to go. We tried the wonton soup and chicken dumplings app. Both were on the bland side. Normally I'm used to wonton soup also having noodles and theirs does not. Flavors were OK, felt like both dishes were missing spices. Everything was cooked perfectly though. Maybe we ordered the wrong items from here and need to try others instead.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. Throwing 4 for this excellent establishment, with a few grains of salt separating it from 5...
