I recently came here on a cool night during a business trip to Naperville. The restaurant is in the cute downtown of Wheaton and it is, itself, a cute and cozy restaurant. The service was friendly while they were doing quite a lot of takeout orders. I ordered the Spring Rolls and the Shrimp and Crab Clear Noodle soup. The Spring Roll was fresh and delicious! The Shrimp and Crab Clear Noodle Soup had a deep and flavorful broth, sizable (but not plentiful) shrimp, a handful of shredded crab meat, and fish and shrimp balls. It was wonderful and just what I needed to warm my body and soul. Luong Lou is not on my list of regular places to stop when I'm doing business in Naperville. read more

I got to try 2 bowls of noodles here. Both are fairly low quality. Quality- the duck was completely over cooked, skin wasn't crispy, and the north tasted really watered down. The meatball pho had decent broth and it is hard to screw up meatballs. Quantity- you don't get a lot for how much you pay for here. The food here is Vietnamese and Chinese fusion and I would rank it a step above your average Chinese take out place. Since it is a blend, dishes were not exactly what I expected, but they had quality ingredients and good flavor. Service was friendly and my water glass never went empty. The inside is spacious and brightly lit. Egg Drop Soup $5 - The portion is big, literally a Corelle 18oz bowl filled to the rim. It doesn't taste like the common egg drop and doesn't have the yellow coloring. I did enjoy the strong garlic flavor, but would want to try the other soups next time. Egg Roll (2) $6 - Great egg roll, crispy and has all the things I like in the filling. A bit pricey. Orange Chicken $12.50 - White meat chicken, lightly breaded. I prefer my OC not to be covered in sauce, but the chicken tasted good, still slightly crispy on the outside. There is no veggie in this dish and is served with rice. Kung Pao Shrimp $12.50 - Very affordable price for a shrimp dish. I would have liked a higher level of spiciness and less sauce, but overall tastes good. Could have been a lot better. It seems like it's supposed to be authentic but unfortunately that doesn't mean it's always good. Luong Loi is one of the Asian places in downtown Wheaton. Basically it's a nice looking place but the food lacks for flavor. The prices are okay if high on a few things. Came in for a stop at lunch after doing things around here. It doesn't have a big dining room which makes it seem busier than it actually is. The service always makes it seem like it's busy though. Has a few lunch specials to choose from. The one I got was the Bean Thread Noodles With Mixed Vegetables. It's $10 for a decent amount. This is about the only vegetarian item on the entire menu. We were walking down the street at saw this traditional Vietnamese & Chinese Cuisine restaurant and had to stop in for a bite. My husband and I love Vietnamese Egg Rolls and we're so happy to see them on the menu! They are so crispy, temperature hot, and delicious. I was drinking water while chewing them so I would not burn my mouth. I did not have the patience to wait for them to cool, they were THAT GOOD yummy! The dipping sauce is sweet and had shredded carrots in it which really complemented the taste! My husband ordered the Yang Chow Fried Rice and loved it! The veggies were chopped so fine and it melted in your mouth. This is his favorite fried rice so far! I ordered the Special Beef Pho and is was perfect! Just the right amount of spice as well as the right temperature hot too. When we finished eating we were given two fortune cookies. I've only ever had one dish here: grilled lemongrass chicken. Over rice, over noodles, as an appetizer. It's the absolute best! They lose a star because there's zero sense of urgency to clean after a table leaves. I've walked in several times before to a dirty table or two. I don't love that. I'm surprised to see people complaining about a lack of vegetarian options; I checked the menu and there are at least 10-12 different dishes, even assuming you don't customize anything. If you are vegetarian/vegan, a quick look at the online menu in conjunction with the paper one may help; sometimes there is information about what kind of broth, etc. (or you can just ask). For example, online it looks like the vegetable noodle soup may not be a vegetable broth (worth asking; their vegetable soup was very good when I had it years ago). This will also give you ideas for how to customize your order (add tofu, fried or non? add extra vegetables?). I hadn't been here since this place moved across the street. There's more room here and it's a little more upscale. The coffee is French press (!), for example. Sadly there are no vegetarian dumplings or pot stickers (and it looks like no vegetarian pho, though I'll ask next time), though they were willing to make me a spring roll with no meat. With some help from the online menu (what is chow fun?) I got the coffee with condensed milk (basically a Thai coffee) and vegetable chow fun, a fried noodle dish with vegetables and customized to add extra fried tofu. My dining companion ordered the grilled lemongrass chicken on rice, I think; the dish was pretty enough when it arrived that she apologized and took a picture. Food was very tasty; there was a fantastic char on the thick rice noodles and the customized spring roll was nice if a bit plain. I left thinking I need to drag the spouse here. Wanted to try this place because it's nearby where I live, but I wouldn't recommend this place if you want authentic pho or Vietnamese food. This is my first, and perhaps, my only review I will leave on Yelp. So, for me to do so, It would have to be an instance where the experience, was unsatisfactory, to say the least. After a decades old chinese restaurant closed, FU YUAN in Wheaton, I found myself looking for a new place to go. I ordered Mongolian beef, among other items, from Luong Loi, to bring home to my family. I picked up the items, brought straight to my home. I opened up the items, specifically, the Mongolian beef, and noticed "a morsel" in terms of there being any beef. I tried to not let it bother me, and proceeded, along with my family, to eat some of the other items ordered. The next day, on the way home from work, I always drive thru downtown Wheaton, passing Luong Loi, and decided to stop in, to let them know my experience. I made a point several times, to say, I am not asking for a refund, or a free meal. I wanted to let them know my disappointment. To my suprise, they denied my claim, and persisted in telling me what I saw in my takeout container the other day. They refused to accept it, to own it. The person I was talking too, and then the chef from the back came out, then they began to have a heated discussion, to put it mildly, in their native tongue, about the situation. I made sure, to always talk in a calm, manner, as there was a couple of patrons at the establishment. I can estimate about 5 minutes of conversation, and all rebuffing my claim. Across the street from this restaurant is one of my favorite breweries, Dry City. Like most breweries, they don't serve food, but you have the option of bringing in your own food. So I'm always looking for a new place to order food from, pick it up and head over for some tasty beers at the brewery and this was one of the places I chose. I chose it because I saw a similar table bring in their Pho at a previous visit to the brewery and watched them slurp up the noodles my entire visit. If you aren't familiar with with Pho, you need to be. It's a Vietnamese dinner soup. The soup itself can be made with many broths. I chose the special which is a beef broth with 2 types of beef and plenty of noodles. The soup itself is loaded with flavor, and as you can see from the picture it comes with plenty of add ins. The add ins consist of jalapeños, cilantro, basil, bean sprouts, and lime. I obviously added them all which just added to the broth. The price of the soup isn't bad at all. This place is great! Whenever I visit my family here in Wheaton I'm sure to make a much needed visit here for some yummy Vietnamese and Chinese food. Absolutely love their banh xeo. Very disappointed in tonight's experience. We've eaten here many times. My pho was just ok. When asked how everything was I mentioned that the fact that there were only 2 shrimp in the bowl was disappointing. I was told it's a single serving and you could add more but you'd have to pay more. This is the only place locally that they only add 2 shrimp. The shrimp fried rice my friend had had tiny shrimp and not many of them. I don't remember them skimping on proteins before. This was probably our last visit. During 20 mile bike ride, stopped at this nice Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Wheaton. Looks like owned by a family (grandpa type person was waiting tables and a young son was acting as a manager) who were all very polite. I had a lunch combination with sliced pork and chicken, veggie, spring rolls, soup and rice. I used to go to this restaurant quite often many years ago, and tried it again the other day to see if it was as good as I had remembered. Unfortunately, it really isn't. The beef was thin, chewy, and dry and the additions to the beef bun were sparse...cucumber and iceberg lettuce. The spring rolls were just full of lettuce and bean sprouts, small tasteless shrimp with very little flavor overall. Also, the sauce for the spring rolls was not nearly as tasty a peanut sauce as I remembered and have had elsewhere. I will say the service was very good, although what I got was carry out. But I was observing the service for a while, and the gentleman was very fast and courteous. And the young man who brought my order to me was also very pleasant. The staff are always friendly and greet you with a warm welcome, and when dining in the food arrives in a timely manner. There are 2 thinks I don't like about this place . One is they put sugar or sweetener in the fried rice . It has an obvious sweet taste . Secondly , they all but force you to tip them for carry out . I ordered the lunch special with grilled chicken and bbq pork over rice. The first thing I noticed was that it was on the smaller portion size. It looks like a lot but it's really spread apart thinly on a plate. Not a big deal because you're only paying $8. My main gripe about it was that both meats were very dry. The pork was hardly cooked how it should have been. Instead of being moist and tender and a little fatty, it came out like jerky. The best thing about the meal was probably the fish sauce mixture and the spring roll. Even the rice seemed a bit old to me. I've had this place bookmarked for over two years and I was pretty disappointed in it. The thing that really bothered me was I felt like the employees, clearly a family or close friends, all seemed to hover around you except for the one guy in the back who didn't move.
