After we mix and mingle and say our hellos, everyone sits down for some serious business - picking out our dim sum dishes. We all have our favorites - dumplings, buns (siaopao) filled with meat or custard, egg rolls, noodles, etc. There is something for everyone. Well, not sure about gluten free stuff... The tables sit about 10 and there is a "Lazy Susan" (turntable thing) in the middle for easier distribution of food. We love it and even use it for the obligatory family video (just set your phone to record and slowly turn the Lazy Susan). lol Overall, we are happy customers and will keep bringing our big Filipino family back here!

It took about 20 mins for the fried rice to be served, waited another 10 mins for the beef mongolian to be served (it was cold), the dimsums were not served at all. It's been an hour almost. I followed up the dimsum with the server and he arrogantly replied to me that the kitchen is making them. I said "we waited long enough, we will just pay what we ate." He was pissed and so arrogant. We are disappointed with the service. No good customer service. People come back not just for food but also for good service.

Thankfully, Phat Phat stepped in to fill that gap. We drove 30 miles for a late lunch around 2:30 p.m. to hopefully beat the crowds. There's a huge parking lot in the back, the building itself is incredibly unique, and the interior is absolutely beautiful. It feels modern while still being warm and inviting. We wanted to try a variety of dishes, so we ordered two baskets of the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, the Enoki Mushroom appetizer, Chicken Fried Rice, Phat Phat Chicken, Nasi Campur, and finished the meal with the Mango Sago. Everything was incredible. The soup dumplings definitely filled the void that Din Tai Fung left behind. Every dish was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and served piping hot. The Mango Sago was the perfect palate cleanser and a refreshing way to end the meal on a hot summer day. The standout for me was the Enoki Mushroom appetizer. That will be a must-order every time we come back. We also have Indonesian family and have visited Bali, so we were excited to try the Nasi Campur. It was spot on. The satay is another must-order in my opinion. Our waiter was kind and attentive, and the rest of the staff were just as welcoming and pleasant. The service was very friendly and they were kind of surprised at how excited I was they were finally open. It's mostly set up to take out, although they have a small amount of seating. I took my food to go and I was home in about eight minutes. By the time I got home I had eaten all the shumai. I thought the pork was much better than the shrimp and the pork was just OK. Unfortunately the buns were...not good. I couldn't recommend any of the three I tried based on that visit. I'm hoping they were just beyond their freshness (I was there after the actual lunch hour), so overall I was disappointed in everything I tasted. The sticky rice actually had some flavor with minimal savory filling and was the only thing passable on the menu. If you are desperate in having dim sum, I guess Sweet Dim Sum would fit the bill. Definitely, lower your expectations though on the quality and quantity of their dim sum. Sorry, but if I ever go back, it would be just to order their signature drinks. The rice crepes were so bad. You can tell they were previously frozen and put into the microwave because it was falling apart. The shrimp was colorless. The veggie one we got was inedible; we sent it back. They wanted to make it right and gave us complementary mochi donuts. It was a nice gesture that we appreciated. We still ended up going to Katy's across the street because we did not feel like we had a sufficient dinner. There are no sauces here. If you ask, they'll give you the tiniest amount of sauce. There are also no chopsticks. Unless things really turn around, I'm inclined to save my money here and make the short trip to Chinatown.
