For starters, hot tea and sticky rice. My favorites were the shrimp dumplings and crispy shrimp rolls, but I also love a good greens in oyster sauce dish. Ordering is easy from a tablet or off the menu but unfortunately a couple things we wanted to order from the menu were no longer available. The steam baskets were removed from our table pretty quickly after they were emptied. Plenty of parking here and the restaurant wasn't too crowded yet, early on a Monday. I appreciated the sturdy chopsticks for use as well as a fork as needed, but a knife would be helpful too, for the crispy greens. I would like to return for dinner sometime and try more dim sum choices. This is a great place to go for a meeting, date night, or with a group.

The Din Tai Fung of Illinois is finally here!…read more My family and I have been chasing the high of Din Tai Fung's soup dumplings for years, but there has always seemed to be an absence of restaurants like this in the Midwest. Thankfully, Phat Phat stepped in to fill that gap. We drove 30 miles for a late lunch around 2:30 p.m. to hopefully beat the crowds. There's a huge parking lot in the back, the building itself is incredibly unique, and the interior is absolutely beautiful. It feels modern while still being warm and inviting. We wanted to try a variety of dishes, so we ordered two baskets of the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, the Enoki Mushroom appetizer, Chicken Fried Rice, Phat Phat Chicken, Nasi Campur, and finished the meal with the Mango Sago. Everything was incredible. The soup dumplings definitely filled the void that Din Tai Fung left behind. Every dish was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and served piping hot. The Mango Sago was the perfect palate cleanser and a refreshing way to end the meal on a hot summer day. The standout for me was the Enoki Mushroom appetizer. That will be a must-order every time we come back. We also have Indonesian family and have visited Bali, so we were excited to try the Nasi Campur. It was spot on. The satay is another must-order in my opinion. Our waiter was kind and attentive, and the rest of the staff were just as welcoming and pleasant. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and we'll absolutely be back.

A nice quaint place that you gotta try if you're a local or simply looking for a different flair.

I'm not even gonna lie. This is the PERFECT spot for family-style dining because every single dish we ordered was packed with flavor. The soup dumplings were incredible, the noodles were cooked perfectly, meats were cooked to a 10, the fried rice was loaded with shrimp, wontons were saucy, and don't even get me started on those chocolate dumplings with sea salt foam... SO GOOD. Everything came out super fast, the service was amazing, portions were generous for sharing, and the restaurant itself had such a great vibe. Their menu is HUGE, so there's honestly something for everyone. The only thing I'd personally pass on next time was the mango passion fruit drink: it was a little watery for my taste, but the food and desserts completely made up for it. Definitely adding this one to my list of places I'll be coming back to! Check out the full review on Instagram: @ratedbyaleena_

We have come here so often, that my mom and uncles seem to know our servers. They really take care of us. And then mom likes to give an extra tip to whomever is really hustling. Service has always been top notch - even without the extra tip. Typically, we are split between two tables. After we mix and mingle and say our hellos, everyone sits down for some serious business - picking out our dim sum dishes. We all have our favorites - dumplings, buns (siaopao) filled with meat or custard, egg rolls, noodles, etc. There is something for everyone. Well, not sure about gluten free stuff... The tables sit about 10 and there is a "Lazy Susan" (turntable thing) in the middle for easier distribution of food. We love it and even use it for the obligatory family video (just set your phone to record and slowly turn the Lazy Susan). lol Overall, we are happy customers and will keep bringing our big Filipino family back here!

We are disappointed with the service. No good customer service. People come back not just for food but also for good service.

FREAKING. DUMPLING. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, tender wrappers that somehow manage to be both delicate and sturdy. We them tried boiled shrimp, pork & green onion and WOW these things are next-level. The Shrimp in the dish was jumbo shrimp which was a nice surprise. Both dishes were only okay due to lack of flavor. They were skimpy in the number of soy and sweet & sour sauce (2 of each). They were nice enough to give us 2 fortune cookies (one cheated me out of a fortune, LOL). NOTE: They have a Chicago location in Chinatown as well.

We ordered like the PERFECT amount of food and best variety. Roast duck: I honestly don't know if I've ever had duck before, but I'm a duck believer now. The skin on theirs was the perfect crispy shatter texture and the duck was sooooo juicy! I don't know why I was always so worried about it being gamey. They give you fluffy steamed bao buns, a sauce, and scallions on the side as well as duck fried rice! Turnip cake: Obviously a must any time I come to dim sum. I've never seen turnip in any other form than this. Japanese salt & pepper tofu: My FAVORITE dish ever. Any fried salt & pepper tofu always makes me happy. They use a creamy egg-like tofu and the outside is lightly crispy with amazing aromatics stir fried in. Steamed white rice on the side is perfect with this. Loved everything else my dinner buds picked and we were super full by the end! Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!
