I was so happy to discover that a bagel shop was close by. Once I found it, I went went three days in a row. I love bagels. The bagels are good. The iced coffee is delicious and the chocolate chip cookies are great too. I have seen other customers order different thing and it seems as though the staff a pretty good about the portions. Came in early(ish) one morning, and so had to wait around 5 minutes to put in my order. Had the toasted whole-wheat everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. Their bagels are not head-size the way they are in a lot of Manhattan delis, but it was still crisp on the outside and soft and dense on the inside. The flavor is more subtle but in a good way. Scallion cream cheese was really tasty. I paired my bagel with an Americano which was also quite good. Prices are decent...maybe a little inflated. read more

Feel like this was careless of the staff - kinda felt like they just didn't care as long as they got the food out. I was already late and didn't have time to ask for a new one. We ordered online, a whole wheat everything bagel with tofu jalapeño spread and an onion bagel with veggie cream cheese and red onions, both were delicious! Delivery was really fast and the prices were extremely affordable. They didn't skimp out on the spread either for those bagels, great food, but the onion bagel was burnt a little. Despite that it was still amazing. The jalapeño tofu spread didn't have much of a jalapeño taste to it, which was a little disappointing too. I eat here sooo frequently! And I do so because it is good! They have this iced tea that Is better than any other tea that I've had in NYC, and a really good caprese (mozzarella, pesto, and tomato). It am very pleased! I also really like how accommodating and friendly the staff is! Today, I am with a group passing out water, and they are so kind as to let us come in for the restroom after I got lunch here! They are professional and kind, a great combination. The only thing that I'm not thrilled with is the prices. It's a tad on the expensive side, especially when you get mostly ice in the iced tea. However, eating here once a week or so isn't outrageous to my budget, and a bagel sandwich is very filling! read more

Eat here for the first time last weekend was very happy with my choice of the tuna / avocado bagel that was by far one of the best once I had recently and the cream cheese / lox bagel that my wife had . Like most people who have written, we thought the food at this place was delicious. I had a bagel with cream cheese and my husband had one of the sandwiches, and both were exactly what we had hoped for. The coffee, unfortunately, was a bit lackluster. And also as everyone has mentioned, the staff could not have been more displeased to have to serve us. I wanted to try two different cream cheeses with my bagel, and when I asked if that was possible, the young mustached man behind the counter replied, 'Well, we prefer not to, especially when we're busy.' Except, we were the only ones in line. And is it really that hard to put two different cream cheeses on a bagel? We had similar interactions when I ordered water and when my husband returned his basket. Each question was answered with annoyance. I would love to go back to this place, but I really have a hard time supporting a business that has such poor customer service. read more

I keep going back because *most* of the time the sandwiches are really good. I have had a couple that have gone wrong (unevenly cut bread leaving one bit way over toasted seems to happen surprisingly often). However, I agree with everyone else that the staff are often rude. Meh. Overpriced and not genuine Brooklyn bagels. Not that I'm an expert, but the bagels were not memorable. They had muffins and pastries as well. I had a zucchini chocolate chip cranberry muffin which was an interesting combination, but tasted surprisingly bland, save for the chocolate. Also the chai latte was very weak because they used one chai tea bag to brew the chai, rather than using a chai concentrate. It was pretty crowded, but we did find two seats. Unfortunately, we only had about 5 minutes before customers were crowding around us waiting for a seat. Eventually, two people saw that we were finishing up our breakfast and stood over us until we left. Gross. read more

This is a cute little bagel shop with great sandwich options especially if you're vegetarian. The ambience is hip and cozy. I had a hot chocolate which was pretty good. The staff wasn't was the warmest but it's just counter service. Not a big deal for me. read more

The doughnuts they get brought in from Dough during the weekends are to die for. That being said, you'll need to wake up damn early if you want to get the cinnamon sugar ones, because I live right across the street and the first thing I do when I wake up on Sat/Sun is walk over and buy most of them. Sorry; not sorry ;). That being said, they have the best bagels in the neighborhood, and the lox are really rad. Their drinks are great too. I have never regretted anything I've ordered at Lula, ever. The only thing I've regretted is not ordering more. If you show up during a busy time (which is most of the time, since it's so popular), I would suggest just taking out if you can. It's a small shop and gets very crowded. That being said, if you get lucky and stop by when it isn't busy, sitting at the big glass windows is a lot of fun. The counter tops are like old small-parts organizers filled with nuts, bolts, screws, etc. with glass panels resting on top of them. It's a really cool aesthetic that I haven't seen before. In spite of how busy it gets, the staff are pretty adept at filling orders in an efficient way. It isn't necessarily first-come-first-serve, nor should it be: if the person in front of me orders 3 different toasted bagels and two complicated coffees, and I'm next and just order some doughnuts, the staff member at the register will just quickly grab my order and send me on my way. This may seem like it slows down the line a bit, but that's a fallacy; it's the right way to fill orders. The person at the register grabbing my doughnuts won't make the triple-bagel/double complicated coffee order (that was already paid for) take any longer. Not to mention, all customers MUST sign the receipts when using a credit/debit card, so the cashier can be grabbing my stuff while I'm doing that. It's as efficient as it can be. The following is probably the most nit-picky criticism in history, but if I HAD to criticize anything, it would have to be the way the line naturally forms. They can't really do anything about it due to space-constraints, so it isn't really something that can be improved, but during busy times, the only place the line can form is right along the counter. Unfortunately, because of the little section that lifts up for staff to enter/exit the kitchen area, as well as the little door that leads downstairs to what I presume is storage, customers in line need to space themselves out accordingly, lest they end up blocking one of these pathways. This makes the line stretch longer than it otherwise would, as there must be two gaps in the line. Combine this with how busy the store gets, and it's often difficult to tell who is in line and who isn't. I end up having to awkwardly ask people whether or not they're in line almost every time I show up during a busy hour. If someone isn't paying attention and stands in front of one of the staff pathways when a staff member is trying to get through, everyone behind them ends up having to shuffle backwards, which can be difficult in such a small, crowded space. I don't really see of a way they could realistically modify the layout to improve the line. However, one suggestion would be really push using an app like Seamless/Grubhub during the peak hours (maybe give a little discount for doing so?). That way, people could hang out outside/nearby and just stop in to pick up their order when it's ready. That could do a lot to reduce the line clutter when it's busy, which would open up a lot of room in the store. I should note that Lula IS on Grubhub/Seamless, but it doesn't list the open hours. Furthermore, right now (10:43 AM on a Saturday), Grubhub states that it is closed, when I was literally there like an hour ago, so I know for a fact it's open. I understand that their delivery staff might not be available at all hours the store itself is open, but as long as the store is open, i wish I could place an order ahead of time for takeout. it would be nice if I could place my order and pay ahead of time, and then just run over to the store when I get the text alert that my order is ready. Still, it doesn't list their delivery/pickup hours in the app (this could be a bug?), so I'm not sure exactly what the deal is. Put that in perspective though - that's my only criticism, and it's exceedingly minor. Furthermore, the fact that the place is so frequently crowded is indicative of its quality. LBREAM! read more

Went here twice, good coffee. Had a toasted ham and cheese croissant one morning and a toasted bagel the next. Good food but both items weren't very hot or warm. The only reason to go here is that it is the only bourgeois breakfast place on this part of Nostrand. They are incapable of making a correct order %50 of the time. This morning I ordered an Everything Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese. When I open my brown bag at work I find a Plain Bagel with Olive Cream Cheese. Also in the summer their Iced Coffee is super grainy. read more
